I had an extremely upsetting experience on August 18 at the Bonchon located at 3059 Waldorf Market Place in Waldorf, Maryland. I placed an online carryout order scheduled for 1:19 PM and arrived around 1:30. Another customer was being assisted at the counter, so I patiently waited. A male employee came from the back and began calling names for carryout orders. Because I couldn't clearly hear one of the names, I politely asked him, "Excuse me, sir, do you have an order for Katrina?" I want to emphasize that I was speaking to the male employee distributing carryout orders, not the woman assisting the other customer. She nevertheless interjected, "When your order is ready, we'll call for you." I simply responded that my order was already ready. As I said this, the male employee retrieved my order from the rack and handed it to me. I took my food and began walking toward the exit. The woman told me to "have a nice day" in a tone I perceived as sarcastic. I nevertheless responded, "Thank you, you too," and continued leaving. She then added, "Please don't come back." Confused, I stopped and asked why. She accused me of previously coming into the restaurant and "doing the same thing"/causing problems. This is extremely important: this was only my SECOND time ever coming to this location for a carryout order. My first pickup was approximately three weeks earlier. I walked in, collected my food, and left within probably 30 seconds with no argument, complaint, or negative interaction. I had also never seen or interacted with this woman before. Because the history she described does not match my actual history at this restaurant, I believe she mistook me for another customer. I asked for her name or information for someone above her because I wanted to report the interaction. She refused and stated that she was the owner and that because Bonchon is a franchise, there was nobody above her to whom I could report the incident. I continued requesting management/corporate information, and she called the police. Because police had been called, I initially believed I should remain to speak with the responding officers. In hindsight, I should have waited outside. While waiting, I called my mother for advice. Another customer who witnessed the interaction independently approached me. I did not know this woman. She told me she believed the way I was treated was wrong and helped me locate information for reporting the incident. She later identified herself to police as a witness and described what she observed. The situation escalated after police had already been called. The woman repeatedly demanded that I leave, and we both raised our voices. During the confrontation, she told me to take my "ghetto sh!t outside" and that I was "going to jail." I did not call her names or curse at her. My mother ultimately told me to leave the restaurant and wait outside, which I did. The police arrived shortly afterward. The woman described me to them as "belligerent" and said she did not want me returning. I gave the officers my complete account, identification, and explained my very limited history at this restaurant. The independent customer also spoke with police as a witness. I was ultimately informed that I could no longer return. I will respect that instruction and have no intention of returning after this experience. What concerns me most is how this began. Before any argument occurred, before police were called, and before I remained inside requesting management information, I had received my food and was already walking out when I was told not to return. The explanation was that I supposedly had a history of causing problems there. I do not. I had never interacted with this woman before, and my only previous carryout pickup approximately three weeks earlier occurred without incident. I strongly believe I was mistaken for another customer. I hope someone above the restaurant level reviews this incident and, if available, surveillance footage from approximately 1:30 PM on August 18. I would also like any alleged previous incidents involving me reviewed because I maintain that no such history exists. The food at Bonchon is delicious, my order was ready on time, and the male employee who handed me my order was helpful. Unfortunately, my experience with management overshadowed all of that. What should have been a routine pickup resulted in accusations about conduct I did not recognize, a police call, and ultimately being banned from a restaurant where I had never previously caused a problem. read more

Customer service is basic, and the chicken is pretty good. It's very crispy and sweet. The fries were greasy and seemed old. I probably wouldn't order those again. My main gripe is that the chicken is super expensive, and food for one person will cost close to $20 or more. Depending on how hungry you are you may or may not have leftovers. The chicken is good but not worth the price. There are tables to eat at inside and they also serve beer so that's a plus. read more

My food took almost forty minutes to make when I was told it would be 20 minutes. This was on a Wednesday and they weren't even busy. Then two people that ordered after me got their food before me. The guy that took my order was less than customer service oriented. I finally got my food only after I told him I was going to ask for a refund. When I got home one of the three orders was wrong. I don't know what they put in that chicken and honestly, I don't want to know -- just don't ever stop doing it. Whatever the marinade, the seasoning, the cooking process, all of it, it works and it works well. The variety here is one of a kind too, you can find things on this menu that you're just not getting anywhere else in the area, which keeps every visit feeling fresh. And a bar! A full bar at a chicken spot is a move I fully support. My first visit included solid customer service, yummy wings and decent chicken fried rice. I got the yangnyeom sauce on the wings. The menu claims it is a Korean favorite. While I cannot validate that claim, it quickly became my favorite! It is a bit spicy and a bit sweet and a wonderful flavor. I also got fried rice with chicken. You get the choice of soy garlic or spicy and I opted for spicy. It was quite spicy, so an extra large glass of water was essential. The rice wasn't overly flavorful and it could have used something more than cucumbers to add to the taste. I added my own soy sauce to it and that improved the dish, but it is something I probably wouldn't order again. But the wings? Winner!!! read more

Poor management/customer service. Placed an online order Saturday at 5:45PM. Nothing crazy just chicken and some fried rice. Get there at the pickup time (6:10). The lady working there tells me it will be 8-10 more minutes. They are waiting on the rice. 20 minutes pass - still waiting. I ask about my order and the same lady tells me 10 more minutes. I've never had an issue at Bonchon! It's always clean, I get excellent service. I came on a Tuesday evening. I was immediately greeted by the gentleman at the register. Now don't laugh at me because I have teenage taste buds and I prefer the boneless wings. Lol! They are fried hard and good and meaty. Not too thin. And I got a garlic soy base. So good!! It comes with Cole slaw and I always get a side of rice. I normally get the chicken fried rice which is flavorful. It honestly tastes better than what it looks like. I'll be back again!! I'm going to be honest, this place wasn't as good as it used to be to be. Immediately walking in I noticed that the floor was sticky and it wasn't in just one spot. It also seemed a bit understaffed because the lady at the front was also my server but I could understand if business is slow. Ordered 8 wings, half Korean and the other half spicy with a side of fries. Was going to order a beer but I was told they no longer service alcohol. I don't know if this is an overall company thing or just this location but that was disappointing. Overall the wings were good but with the sticky floors and lack of alcohol I doubt I will be going to this location again. But on a positive note I can see myself getting a to go order. read more

It's a dependable option for Korean fried chicken. You can't go wrong with the classic soy garlic wings. I preferred the wings because the drumsticks are too large (think KFC/Popeyes size). The sauce to meat ratio is thrown off when the chicken is not smaller like a normal wings. Tried Bonchon for the first time this past weekend. It DID NOT DISAPPOINT! I ordered online and selected Curbside Pickup. Everything was smooth with picking up the order and the food was prepared timely. Now let's get into some dishes: Fried Chicken- Okay, Korean fried chicken is the truth! I've never had any doubt but it was confirmed. Crispy without being overdone and flavorful without being too salty. I ordered a combo (half plain, half soy garlic) as well as the strips (half spicy, half sweet chili). Going forward, wings and drums it is! With regard to flavor, plain is very plain and a good option for someone sensitive to spice. Spicy wasn't too spicy for me (I love spice!) but others in my family found it a bit too spicy. Sweet chili spice was just right and soy garlic had a wonderful flavor, not too salty and not too sweet. Shrimp Sumai- It was good but not great. The taste was not bad at all but there was no wow factor. Fried rice- Yum yum yum! Flavorful and again not greasy or overcooked. Bulgogi- Another winning dish. Nice tender ribeye beef and great flavor. Japchae- The Japchae was by far the star dish. My entire family loved it. Tasty, filling, and wonderful. For a first visit, it was stellar. This place is hit or miss, unfortunately. I ordered 8 boneless wings, a side of fried zucchini, and the donuts. Even though I placed my order online, I still had to wait at least 10 extra minutes past my pickup time. Despite waiting in the store, my chicken was cold--some pieces were warm, but others weren't. On top of that, the chicken wasn't sauced properly, so some pieces barely had any flavor. The pickled radish was gross, and the donuts were only half-covered in sugar and cinnamon. The fried zucchini was just okay. When I had Bonchon on Sunday (1/26), it was amazing--I was already planning my next visit. But my experience before that was also a miss, which makes me feel like consistency is an issue. For the price, even with the lunch specials, it's disappointing that it's so hit or miss. read more

When I first visited this location a few years back, everything was on point, from the chicken, to the fries, bulgogi fried rice. Recently, the quality has suffered and I can't say it's due to anything outside of the newness has worn off. Today I had the following: Japchae (glass noodles with red bell peppers, spinach, onions, mushrooms and beef): although I finished my meal, it was still lackluster. The flavor profile was just "okay" nothing I would order again. I enjoyed the texture of my noodles but the dish in itself truly lacked a deep flavor profile which caused me to have to add soy sauce ...overall, I rate this dish. 3.5 Salad with sesame ginger dressing: this salad was tasty, all of my ingredients were fresh and the dressing has an amazing flavor. We were in the mood for some good chicken so decided to stop here. We were disappointed to find out that this location did not have a full bar like other locations. This location only had beer and wine so we stuff with two waters with lemon. We got the medium bone in wing combo with mild and spicy with an order of fries. We originally wanted onion rings but they were sold out which was a bummer. The overall ambiance did not give me sit down restaurant vibes. Half of the restaurant was sectioned off, I'm assuming that's how it's been since the pandemic. They only had 5-6 actual tables. When I went to use the restroom there was a ton of paper supplies leading to the back. It more so reminded me of a carryout that had some tables on the side. Bonchon definitely took me by surprise. My husband and I decide to pick a random spot we hadn't tried in our area one night for dinner and I must say we weren't disappointed. We were throughly empresses by the quality and freshness of the food and presentation. The customer service/ cashier was very knowledgeable of menu selections which made our almost impossible decision making process fairly easy (we can almost never come to a quick decision lol). Everything was good and hot, not thrown together and very flavorful. The ambiance of this establishment is very quiet and clean which is always top on my list before dining.
