I entered the restaurant with low expectations, but I was pleasantly surprised by the extensive menu. They now offer more than three flavors of fried chicken, including regular crunch, soy garlic, spicy, yangnyeom, and Korean BBQ. Here's what we ordered: * Large Drumsticks ($27.99): Half soy garlic, half spicy * Japchae ($15.99) We were disappointed to find that the tteokbokki was out at 6 pm, so we opted for japchae instead. The noodles were chewy, but they were overly salty and had a distinctly teriyaki flavor, with the sesame oil barely noticeable. The pickled radish was equally disappointing; it was quite bland and lacked any tartness. The spicy wing sauce, which they claim is their spiciest, was surprisingly mild as well. The service was decent and mostly self-service. You place your order at the front and receive a number to bring to your table. The food is delivered to your table, and when you're done, you dispose of your own trash and stack the trays. Drinks and utensils are available by the cashier. Overall, Bonchon was just OK. My first experience with Bonchon was years ago in Virginia when I lived down the street from one of their restaurants, and I absolutely loved it. She took the time to give me an overview of the menu, what she liked, and we also talked about the Murfreesboro location. I decided on the lunch special of Five Chicken Strips (2 plain/no sauce and 3 Soy Garlic), a side of Wasabi/Ranch dipping sauce, and Pickled Radishes as a side. All of this plus a fountain beverage for $11.95 wasn't a bad deal. My order was To Go and came out faster than I could fill my soda cup. I wanted to try some plain without any of the brushed on sauces and do some dipping. The Wasabi/Ranch sauce is good, mild, no real spice or heat. I was excited to try Bonchon, but not so much when I opened the box and found a piece of metal! The wings were all flaps. I was not aware of that. I thought it would be a mixture. Yes, I saw the menu has drumsticks but I was thinking of the actual large drumsticks. Kinda misleading since everywhere when you order wings, it's a combination of both flaps and drummies. The sauce on wings is non existent, they should be drenched and they were barely dipped. After trying this in the bigger cities such as Chicago, I was so excited to finally have one of these in middle TN! Parking is easy in the shopping center lot out front. This is a fast/casual place where you order at the counter & then sit down. Lots of people came in for takeout orders. We got the 10 piece soy garlic tenders with a shareable seasoned fries, Japanese mayo, & spicy mayo. I'm pretty sure they changed the style of the chicken tenders since I previously visited at the Chicago location, but I felt the size & quality was still good with these. The chicken was fried nicely & had that perfect crisp & crunch you'd expect with quality KFC while still moist on the inside. Fries were piping hot & seasoned well. Only complaint is that we noticed right before leaving that the menu stated "complimentary side of pickled radish or coleslaw" with our chicken which we didn't get. Not sure if we're supposed to ask (I don't remember having to ask at the other location) or if they were out or just forgot. Anyway, not a big deal since we were full at that point anyways. It's in a small plaza with limited parking. Luckily we found a spot to park at in the back. We pretty much just walked up to the counter, ordered our food, and once our food was done, they called our names out. It was super busy since they just opened, but I felt that the tech time was really good considering how busy they were. I went ahead and just made my wing order a meal for only a few dollars more. They ran out of ice, straws, and lids for the cup at their little drink station. When I went to use the restroom, there was also no toilet paper. We got there not too late, too. We went on a Saturday, which they close at 10, but we got there before 6pm. Not sure if they will restock items during the day, but they were out when we got there. They were also out of pickled radish (sad cause I really wanted some) that was supposed to come with the wings, so we got the cole slaw instead. Food wise: the wings itself, wasn't bad. We tried this for the first time and we got kimchi, fried rice, white rice, potstickers, and the boneless wings and we paid $50 with tip included. The food was really good and the service was nice and patient with us as we didn't really know what to get. They were kind and explained everything really thoughtfully. The food here is unique. I'm a squeamish eater, and I've always wanted to try Korean bibimbap, but I'm put off by the usual fried egg. This place uses SCRAMBLED egg, and yum! That said, the star of this restaurant is really the double-fried chicken. There are a number of "safe" side items you can order, but they also have street corn and pickled radishes on the menu. Tried Bonchon for lunch the past weekend! It was very good. I got the strips and my husband got the boneless wings. The strips were good, my husband said he probably wouldn't order boneless again. I got half plain for the kids and the other half garlic soy. They ended up liking the garlic soy so mama got to eat the plain! My husband got half garlic soy and half spicy. He enjoyed both styles! I am a big Bonchon fan and have been SOOOOO excited about their opening. I was a little (okay a lot) disappointed in this visit but I'm chalking it up to them just getting the hang of things and look forward to visiting again soon and having the Bonchon experience I'm used to! Before I heard of Bonchon I had seen different post about Korean fried chicken and didn't understand what was so different about it. Then I tried Bonchon!!!! And now I understand! First the crunch is amazing! Every bite is crunch and flavorful. The soy garlic is hard to explain but it's a little sweet and sticky flavor and is really good. The spicy is not for the weak. I was very excited that Bonchon has opened a location in the Nashville area because I think Korean style wings can be better than Nashville hot wings. First impressions... when I came in to pick up my order, there was already a long line immediately when you walked in. They're definitely busy, as expected! I skipped to the front of the line to pick up my order, which didn't take long. But they seemed disorganized when it comes to paying for the take-out because I was skipped and they took someone's order ahead of me. I shouldn't have to wait for someone to place their order before me when I just needed to pay for my take-out. This location is a fast food style compared to other restaurant style where you sit first/order later. Overall, they looked like they were pretty well-staffed and prepared for the opening hype, just somewhat disorganized. Of course, first days of opening, it's not going to be perfect. I ordered a 20 piece wing with half soy garlic and half spicy. I anticipated some of the wings won't be as crispy because it's to-go and have been sitting in the box for a while. However, the wings didn't look like they have been glazed with the sauce evenly enough, so the wings were somewhat dry. The wings were also smaller compared to wings I've had in other Bonchon locations. I think this Bonchon has potential to be great. We gave it a few months to allow the excitement of the new restaurant appeal to die down. Bonchon boasts "signature Asian flavor" yet they only offer soy garlic as a flavor. The soy garlic has no flavor aside from an MSG flavor coating in your mouth. We ordered the 10 piece garlic soy "fingers." Bonchon does not sell traditional chicken fingers so I assume thats the mythical 'signature' secret. Their chicken fingers are flat pieces of chicken with too much breading. Greasy, heavy breading that thankfully fell off upon first bite. The garlic Soy flavor is underwhelming with no garlic taste. We also ordered the fried rice. For the price, all you get is rice. Protein is an additional price. As compared to other restaurants where fried rice includes mixed vegetables, scrambled egg and a protein, this fried rice is just that--fried rice. Again, more garlic soy, one note flavor. Which is no flavor at all. I get the appeal of a new restaurant in the area but this place was a costly disappointment.
