I had the worst service from this restaurant before I even had a chance to step in the building. The host that greeted us did so with an attitude and continued to make sarcastic remarks in route to our table. Once there he advised us to set up our own seating area. I frequent the West Broad location and love the service there and will advise anyone interested in quality service to try that location. I am truly appalled at the service at the Midlothian location and would never recommend this particular location to anyone. read more

I wish I had read Kanaloa62's review before I went. My experience was exactly the same. I got a big bowl of rice with some specks of something else. If you like bowls from J Kogi or Zzaam this isn't going to be even close. It's much more expensive. I paid $11 for the bowl and paid $2 for the chicken which I couldn't find in the dish. There are base toppings with no variation. I ate two spoonfuls, asked for a box and took it with me. I took it home added, chicken, vegetables and sauce to make it edible. The rice wasn't even good. I was so disappointed. Other things may be better but I still think its too pricey for what they are serving. My friend got the fried rice and it was $12. The taste was good but that's too much for friend rice. read more

I had the fried chicken, fried rice and japchae and all i really have to say is that it was quite tasty :) I didn't give it 5 stars because I've had better, but it was still really good. Sadly this location is not up to par with the brand standard. So many details are overlooked that could make all the difference in the success of this location. I ordered a medium combo of chicken, fries and 4 extra pickled radish. Each container of radish was a different flavor ranging from very vinegary to too sweet to one and that tasted like bleach. The chicken was not as crunchy as what I had tried at other locations, also the fries tasted "off". I had ordered plain fries but the ones I had gotten seemed to have a season coating. They were also placed in the to go container when they were way too hot as much of the bottom styrofoam was melted thru (this could have accounted for the strange taste) usually restaurants put a peice of wax paper on the bottom to avoid this. The bartender was very nice but even with the restaurant having just one table the host was didn't acknowledge us or greet us when we came in- he was giving his cellphone all his undivided attention- so much so that when we left his eyes were still plastered to its screen- no "good night" or "come again" which we most likely will not. read more

The chicken is incredible; unlike any I've tasted. Alone, using taste as the lone criteria, it would get 5 stars. But, the cost is a little steep; 10 wings or 5 drumsticks for 11.95 during dinner hours. Having said that, I'll probably be back for the chicken, especially during lunch, as the price drops to 7.95. The main reason for the 3 stars is the fried rice. It was very disappointing, as it tasted like a very bland, almost health-conscious version, and lacked the typical wok and soy "fried" taste. I won't be getting it again. Also, I couldn't figure out what the radish side dish was until I took a look at the online menu prior to writing this review. Although different than the typical side dish, it must be an acquired taste, but I doubt I'll ever give my palate another chance to welcome it with open taste buds.. I look forward to visiting again during lunch, when I'll try something else and hopefully post an updated review with a higher rating. Another positive- while waiting for the order I placed in-person, the bartender was very helpful, and even provided a complimentary glass of seltzer with lemon and lime while I waited. read more

A friend and I went here for lunch one day, not expecting a sit down restaurant, which was a pleasant surprise. We asked the waitress what she recommended and we ultimately decided on the chicken strips-half and half. They were the bomb! We really enjoyed the low key atmosphere of the restaurant. This was our first time at the restaurant and we really appreciated the honesty of the waiter on what to order (it wasn't the most expensive item on the menu). The Korean wings and tacos were very good!! Highly recommend!! If you are looking for Bulgogi I would recommend going to the Korean restaurant on Hull Street. They do not have an official kids menu but you can get 2 chicken strips and fries for $3. We will be back! read more

The server was pleasant and attentive, the food was excellent, and the atmosphere was comfortable. The potstickers were my favorite but with so many options to try in the future... That could change. Ok, I'm a girl from Louisiana....and we LOVE our food spicy and full of flavor!!! So it's my opinion that these wings are amazing... Very nice kick!! My daughter loved the tenders! What can I say if your a regular of the Bon Chon in the west end then you'll be happy to know this one is just as good. TBH I didn't even look at the decor or setup since I was in such a rush to eat. The food didn't let me down. I ordered the small combo garlic soy with Kim chi Cole slaw and house fried rice (my mouth is watering as I write this) it was to die for as always. The chicken is mouth watering (for anyone who doesn't know Korean fried chicken is double fried) I tried to get a bottle of saki but was talked out if since the server suggested it would be to much for me. I didn't argue but I'm well more adapted to drinking a bottle of their saki than he knew. I opted for sweet tea. The service was ok but it's a new location and it takes time for the servers to get acclimated to their new environment. I'm not going to judge in the series until after maybe 6 months. This is definitely a place to visit if you live in the Southside and have never been here. I love it I see myself becoming a duke before long. I know it's not good for my health but dammit I'm addicted to Bin Chons I try to get as many people to try it as often as I could lol read more

First time having Korean food and the experience was out of this world. Our large group decided to try and share many dishes. I'll start by saying that the wings truly are VERY best you will find anywhere in Virginia! Super crisy outside and so juicy inside. The sauces are beyond flavorful. Couple the wings with endless choices of beer on tap and this is the perfect place to watch the games on any of the 4 large T.V.s! I stopped at Bonchon for lunch today. It was my first time there and I was very pleased. My waitress was great...she was friendly but not intrusive and took my order and brought my food and later my check all in a timely manner. I had the chicken wrap and I was very impressed. I have been eating at the West Broad St. Bonchon for about a year now and absolutely love their chicken wings. When I heard they were opening up on Midlothian Turnpike I was so crazy excited that we would have one closer to home. My first time going there was around 2 weeks after they opened and ordered the fried chicken wings (take out). When I opened the box the wings looked very small compared to the one on Broad Street. Seeing they just opened I thought maybe they received the wrong size so I let it go. Well, today I went to the Midlothian Bonchon again with my friend who also frequents the West Broad Street Bonchon with her family. We shared an order of 10 Wings and we were sooooooo disappointed. The wings are definetly 1/2 the size and the garlic soy sauce was barely coating the wings and they were not cooked to order it normally takes 25 minutes or so to get your order and ours came out less than 10 minutes.. I think they were pre cooked. We expressed our disappointment and asked why so different. They are a franchise they should all be the same quality. The odd part of all this was the owner was standing near our table and heard our conversation and did not bother to talk to us. The waitress tried to explain each Bonchon different. NOT!!!!!! This was our last time ever going to Midlothian Bonchon. We will continue to be loyal customers to the West Broad Bonchon it is worth the drive for great food and customer service. read more

My office went for carryout last week at the Midlothian location. I ordered the soy/ginger chicken strips with coleslaw. I was expecting the strips to be crispy but they were mushy. The sauce they put on them is ok but could contribute to the sogginess. The coleslaw has a weird taste almost like a chemical. My coworkers tried it and they all turned their noses up and spit it out. I actually took it back to the restaurant to let them taste and the chef said it was made fresh. Not disputing the freshness but the weird flavor. Perhaps it has Korean spices in it that makes it taste this way. read more

I live up in Northern Virginia and I'm very familiar with Bonchon wings. Simply put, they're delicious. Completely fried wing with a solid amount of chicken with great sauces, spicy and soy garlic. I've been here more than five times and every single time, I regret coming (I mainly come here bc friends like this place). The skin on the chicken is detached from the meat and you are left with just meat after you eat off the the very hard skin. I ordered the bonchon wrap with bulgogi it was extra for the beef but I wanted to try something new. It wasn't that great as all the toppings were on one half of the wrap and most of the beef was on the other half. SO I just raved about this Bonchon just last month. We ordered take out on Friday and they changed their To-Go boxes to Styrofoam containers. Bad idea! Bonchon is famous for their crispy chicken, by the time we got home the chicken was soggy!. Please go back to the cardboard boxes. read more

Went to try this place after a friend tried it. Walked in, host greeted us with "Can I help you?" Stated it was our first time there. It was before 5 PM. Only one couple seated and talking to waiter. Host sat us at a table and said waiter would be with us shortly. Looked over menu and host came back to take our drink order because waiter was still talking with the other couple. Host brought drinks back to table and we waited and discussed the menu. Time passed and waiter was well into a deep conversation with the couple about various places they've visited. Waited a little longer. Host was going around the restaurant with a broom and dustpan, cleaned around the waiter and the couple who were eating and talking. After host put the dust pan and broom away, he caught my look and decided to come take our order. When placing the order, we were told they were out of kimchi and kimchi slaw. He said someone was out shopping for more kimchi. hmmm..... He said "Our fries are good." Ordered bulgogi. Host put in our order and then came back saying they had enough kimchi on hand for one order (leaving my boyfriend wondering if they went to scrape the bottom of the barrel to get some together for a bowl.) All this time passed and the waiter was STILL talking to the other couple. In the meantime, a waitress arrived for work and took over the service for our table. She brought out a small salad that came with the bulgogi. Was only lettuce and cucumber. The bulgogi plate was $15.95 and, after having bulgogi at other restaurants for that price, I was expecting more. The plate arrived as half rice and half bulgogi. The bulgogi didn't have much flavor other than being salty. The rice tasted like instant rice that was cooked without enough water... was crunchy and dried up. Our waitress was nice but it was a bit strange since she seemed like she was just filling in. Not likely that we will ever return to this restaurant. read more

I really hate having to give BonChon a low rating but unfortunately, I must. I have now eaten there 3 xx. The first visit for lunch was pretty good even though I wasn't crazy at the bibimbap. Service was good but it wasn't that busy. Second visit at lunch- we had a party of 5; I tried the bibimbap with seafood this time....still not by favorite but I did try the fried chicken and it was awesome. The problem: the food took FOREVER to arrive and everyone got their food at very different times. Part of the problem is that there is only one waitress working there ever and when it's busy (it was), the food takes an inordinate time. Third (and my final visit there) was last week. This time we had 3 people in our lunch party. Again, food took VERY long to arrive...and again and as usual, there is only waitress with about 15 tables, which is far too may tables for one person to take care of AND be able offer good and expedient service for lunch service. The waitress is very pleasant but I don't want to spend close to an hour and half for lunch! Again, chicken was great.....their french fries have some type of coating (like Burger Kings - yuk) ....no salt and pepper or sugars on the table (you need to ask for it), but the calamari came out overdone not once but twice and at $12.50 is a bit on the pricey side. My advice, get more help - people don't have that kind of time during the week to wait that long. read more

Since this is a franchise, chicken is good, but don't venture into the steak and fish world. Ordered bulgogi and the meat was as pale as can be. Also, since it's a new establishment they are still pretty new and rusty and I wish they would work out their quirks quickly. Went in on a Tuesday evening and only two tables were occupied. Hostess wanted to serve us all the way in the back of the restaurant. Why? There are perfectly good seats at the front near the Windows. Just because you have certain servers assigned to certain tables, doesn't mean you have to put us in crappy seats. You're not Flemings steak house, you're a chicken fast food house. You burned my chicken made me waited for so long. If I had a chance to withdraw my tip I would take it back. And for all the inconveniences for burning my food and then taking extra long time, you should give something as an incentive. As slow as it was, I don't think I would go back anytime soon. read more
