As a native Houstonian I've searched for great Korean Fried Chicken near and far. THIS IS IT! The downtown ambiance is a vibe . The music is good the wings are amazing. Them other wing spots just weren't hitting no more. These are Perfectly cooked CRISPY wings tossed in spicy /sweet Korean fusion. Pairs lovely with the Seafood fried rice as well as the full bar. Came in for dinner/Astros game watching on Sat, Oct 7. Been here several times b4 & didn't let the negative reviews sway me. We had the best service with Dustin. I mean exceptional! Now to the food. We had both wings & drums mixed with soy garlic & spicy. Both were juicy & delicious! We also had the bulgogi fried rice, which was also delicious. The pickled radish is also very good. BonChon is probably my husband and I's favorite restaurant in the downtown Houston area. Whenever I have to go to Houston for my job, we make sure to head over to this restaurant at least once during the week. The servers we have had have always been very cool, fun to interact with, and informative. I also really like who I think is the owner. The food is amazing. Fried chicken, Bipmibop, Takoyaki, and my personal favorite - the pork katsu. The alcoholic drinks are also fun. We have tried several. My husband really liked the lychee mixed drink. The atmosphere here is bright, poppy, and modern. They are set up to do Karaoke - I'm fairly sure on Tuesday which is fun. We have done in once before with some friends. I tried this place today and the wings are good but the drums weren't seasoned very well. I got the spicy and the soy garlic flavor. Both were good. On the drumsticks the flavor was only on the skin of the chicken but no flavor on the inside. The chicken definitely has a great crunch. The food is Delicious and the only saving grace! Came here to celebrate my parters birthday, and it ended up being a hot mess. Service was TERRIBLE! Our server spent more time standing at the counter than actually helping us! We ordered the Bulgogi Sliders, but the dish that came ended up being the spicy chicken - which was too spicy so we couldn't eat it. At the end of the meal when the server finally came around and we notified her, she said she would swap them out and we can take them to go. Didn't even offer to comp then or provide a discount. Overall 5/5: Bonchon will always be a 5/5 in my book. It is one of the best korean fried chicken places I've been to. Drinks 5/5: They offered different flights of drinks, I got the frozen cocktails one and my friend got the soju one. All super cute and yummy. Great selection. Food 5/5: We were all craving Korean food so bad and nearly ordered the whole menu. We of course got the chicken. As well as the japchae, tteokbokki, potstickers, seasoned fries, and pork buns. Really sad excuse for Korean food. I ordered the bibimbap (rice bowl) and instead of spinach and pickled vegetables, it had a few strands of romaine lettuce and steamed onions and mushrooms. No kimchi, no spinach, even the "fried egg" (paid extra) was one step short of a scrambled egg. No soft yolky center. I got tofu as the protein and it literally looks like they cubed it then microwaved it. No frying, no sear or seasoning. Just plain ass tofu. I should've made this myself or made the drive to Bellaire. This was literally so sad and unsatisfying. Won't be eating here again. read more

The taste of the wings and strips were there and comparable to other bonchons, but we were so disappointed with the portion size. The strips looked more like nuggets and the wings were over done. Every item was cold when it was served, which was disappointing after waiting nearly 45 minutes for our order. I feel like I rarely give any place a 1-star rating cause maybe I caught them on an off day or maybe something was going on behind the scenes that made the service and/or food subpar, but wow this place really takes the cake. Obviously not literally as this is a place known for their Korean fried chicken, but mayhaps try another place as you'll end up waiting FOREVER for your order. I came here on 2 separate occasions, and both times I spent most of it waiting to either order or for my food to come out. While I understand that they cook to order, it doesn't excuse me waiting at the front to be seated for more than 7 minutes or for me to furiously wave down the waiter (or even the bartender) when I've been sitting for more than 10 minutes especially when they can't even fill half of the seats available in this space. There were maybe a maximum of 8 tables occupied, so that should let you know how outrageously slow the service is. That aside, the food is relatively good IF it comes out nice and hot. Please take note of the "if" in my last sentence. During my last time there, one of the orders (the spicy chicken) was so cold I thought the chicken died again. Mind you it seemed as though that order was just waiting to be served out, but with just a bartender, 1 waitress, and (maybe?) 1 manager, I see why it was left out in the cold. If you were thinking to order takeout instead, I'm really not sure if that would be a good idea either. I saw some people, both UberEats and people just picking up, waiting until AFTER I left to even get their food. I did a door dash pick up from here last week. I order: 8 plain wings & dumplings. What I got: 4plain wings, 4 spicy wings & fries. I would've eaten it but the wings were too spicy & I didn't want fries because I paid $13 for dumplings. Fries are $4. I called & asked could I bring the order back (because I still had time while on my lunch break) in order to get my correct order. The lady was very stern when telling me I had to go through door dash, even though I'm the one that picked it up & I'm the one bringing it back. I simply wanted to give them back the wrong food & get the correct order. She wouldn't allow it. She told me to contact DoorDash. I did & still haven't gotten a response. Bonchon is an overall ok choice for fast food Korean fried chicken. It's definitely not the best (I recommend BBQ chicken), but there wasn't anything wrong with it either. The skin was nice and crispy, and I liked the crispy pickled radish they give you on the side. The chicken pieces were pretty small. So this wasn't our typical after church lunch spot but we ended up in this area for another place which was unfortunately poorly staffed and overwhelmed and told us they were put of so many of the brunch menu items we were visiting for so instead of riding around or checking for something else near with brunch available we decided to try something new and we were glad we did. I'm certain I had no idea what was on the menu and honestly thought I would have other options than chicken but we didn't and the restaurant was clean, the staff were attentive and the food was served great temperature and wasn't a long wait. We tried various items from tacos to chicken strips with steamed rice to chicken bites my son loved them the only reason not 5 stars is I really wish there more flavor options but that's just personal preference and you may love the options on the menu. So went in here tonight at the 10pm after work. They close at 10:30. Sat at bar was told I could order drinks and sit and drinks but the food would be to go but we could still eat at the bar. Great everything was great including the bartenders. Who was NOT great of the Asian guy, maybe the owner, who from the minute we walked in was rude and didn't want to serve us. Yes we came in 30 mins before closing but there were plenty people sitting at tables and the bar. We sat at the bar ordered our drinks and and food. They both came at the same time so we decided to drink and much on our order. About 30 mins in the Asian guy told us we had to leave cause they are mopping, while he was still pouring drinks for others. Was craving Korean Fried Chicken since i like the usual Korean soy garlic sauce over what Pluckers, Buffalo Wild Wings, Wingstop etc.. have. Korean Fried Chicken is also more crispy since they fry the chicken twice. Bonchon's Soy Garlic wings definitely hit the spot with their sweet, savory and garlic flavor. The fries were well seasoned but they were a little cold. I liked the rice cakes in the Tteokbokki but was not a fan of the cheese and it was overall too spicy for me. Bonchon is a chain so it does give fast food vibes but a little more elevated. If you've never tried Korean Fried Chicken before id definitely recommend you try their Soy Garlic Wings. read more

This was so random and I absolutely loved it here. I was walking downtown and I was looking for something quick and cheap. I ended up walking right past here twice and on the third time I told my self to go and try it. The food and the service was amazing, and I mean truly amazing. I was greeted by a nice gentleman that led me to my table and the food came out pretty fast. I will say I did not get a chance to get any of their drinks but I will next time. The chicken tasted like something you would get from chic fil la. The chicken was good but it isn't Korean fried chicken.
