I remember when Bonchon was just a random chicken place that opened up in California, its draw was that it was of a renowned Korean chain. Upon first bite you'll realize how different it is from traditional fried chicken, and now it is the flagship for most people's first foray into KFC ( Korean Fried Chicken). The location in Clackamas Town Center is of no exception, and their quality and speed are still up to par. It's a great casual place to have some fried chicken and snacks ( or even heavier meals) with the family or friends. Their service is like any other chain, don't expect anything stellar, but there are no complaints either. The food is consistent, fresh, hot, crunchy, and plenty of flavor no matter what you get. I recommend trying their original flavors the Spicy and Soy Garlic wings on your first venture, but if you're familiar already then dive into their more expansive menu! I haven't had a miss yet, though their specialty is definitely their wings. The rest of their menu doesn't miss, but they aren't top tier compared to dedicated Korean restaurants. I absolutely love this Korean KFC chain restaurant. I have eaten KFC at other restaurants; and I believe this chain restaurant makes the best crunchy chicken. I also like that I can choose different sauces. Although their regular pricing seems quite high, I was very satisfied with the KFC meal which included a side of either coleslaw or pickled turnip. I chose pickled turnip. It was kind of refreshing and with a slight hint of sweetness. Uncooked turnip was not my favorite, but I was glad to have tried it. Their KFC pieces were generally large. The chicken pieces were moist and hot. I tried the ginger (can't remember the exact name) and spicy sauces. The spicy sauce was better. I will definitely try one level spicier if it is available. I've had the chicken from bonchon togo before but this is the first time I dined in. There was one cashier to take orders and a kiosk as well. I ordered through the kiosk and it went smoothly. Our food came out pretty quickly and the wings were crispy to our likings. Got half soy garlic and half crunchy. The soy garlic definitely could have had more flavor, but the crunchy was delicious. I recently went to Bonchon after not having it for about a year. For the most part, the food has always been good to great for me but there has oftentimes been issues that has prevented me from being a more frequent diner such as order accuracy, speed of service, and online ordering issues. On this particular visit, I was the only person in the store and still my order took way way too long to arrive at my table (32-35+ mins). In numerous previous visits, Bonchon would blow my mind how the chicken would be crispy despite the glaze an hour later, or crisp after being refrigerated and then reheated in the toaster oven the next day). Yet on this visit, my KFC batter wasn't as crunchy to start and the crunch faded much quicker than before and didn't "last" before I ate all the pieces of chicken. I was kinda surprised given that this never happened before. Honestly the meal was pretty disappointing and it's been a few weeks and I can't even remember the details since it was such a meh meal. The chicken might have been dry and/or undersauced, but I can't say with any certainty since I don't remember, I just remember it was really the only time I've been disappointed with "taste," Also ordered rice and it didn't come out with my meal and came out much later, and I didn't start my meal until the rice came out which might have led to the crunch not lasting, but it still should have lasted long enough, and they should have brought the rice at the same time, no excuses. Once the rice came out much later, again no apologies. It feels weird to me why I had to wait more than 30 seconds for rice since rice is usually cooked well in advance and I was literally the only person in there at the time. The experience I've had last month felt very different than when they've first opened and I'm not sure if this is due to a change in ownership or a cost cutting measure or something, but it feels very off. read more

Sitting down at the table to wait for our food, we couldn't help but notice how run-down, dingy, and downright dirty the restaurant was. The back part of the chairs were covered in dust, dandruff, and hair. The floors were light gray, but black and brown on the sides and corners due to caked-on grime. In many places, the floors were actually STICKY. They had boxes, gas tanks, and supplies stacked up in plain view next to the drink machine, which was partly out of order. Later, having eaten and really enjoying our food, we had to use the restroom. I dreaded going and, unfortunately, it was exactly as expected. Bonchon's bathroom was not unlike any local gas station bathroom you would walk into - just plain grimy. Sticky floors again, footprints where peoples' shoes had stuck to the floor, and a stinky odor. Just bad. Went to this place when they opened and it was delicious, not sure what happened to them. We went back a while ago, quality of fried chicken has gone down significantly when compared to other Korean fried chicken places. They used to just give you flats and drumsticks but recently we had weird pieces of chopped chicken in our order. Like someone just randomly hacked at a whole chicken. This was deterring to eat especially since some pieces were of breast meat. The breading was also lacking, and the sauce was not thick as it used to be. Not sure if there was a change in management or issues with the training but this needs to be fixed. I came here again more recently after hearing about their "new" flavors (it's honestly been a while since they've introduced these, but it was just my first time hearing about it). Since they've opened they've only had the soy garlic and spicy flavors, however within the past couple months they added the yangnyeom and Korean BBQ flavors. This time, I ordered in-person and to-go. The order took about an hour to do, which was honestly a bit crazy. However, I ended up walking around the mall for a bit, so the time went by fast. I ordered the ddeokbokki, buldak, and half and half of the yangnyeom and Korean BBQ flavors. The sauce of the ddeokbokki was a bit too watery for me, but the rice cakes were nice and chewy. The buldak was good, but not particularly special. And, the wings were great. I love the addition of these flavors as it gives more options to customers and they each have their own unique taste. I was excited to see Bonchon here on the west coast. This pIace is legit for serving Korean Chicken Wings. The provide either a garlic soy or spicy gochugang glaze. We chose the half and half batch of wings. The double fry on the chicken wings made them so crispy! They cooked them just right so the meat was still juicy and piping hot. The glazes were a perfect mix of mild and spicy. They also give you a small container of daikon radish to serve as a pallet cleanser if you moved between the different flavors of wings. read more

As a native Korean, this was the worst Korean fried chicken I've had in my life. I ordered boneless yangnyeom chicken with tteokbokki. The "boneless" chicken tasted like McDonald's nuggets but worse, covered in a bland, sticky sauce, and the tteokbokki was flat with cheese that had the texture of dissolvable rubber. It was mostly green onions with barely any rice cakes. Everything came in cheap plastic containers, and the portions were far too small for the price. I dunno what happened. I usually order the Boneless Wings and they're decent but today is weird. I ordered 24 Boneless Wings half "Spicy" and half "Korean BBQ" (limited summer flavor) and what I got instead was 22 weird chicken nugget-like pieces and 2 of what is suppose to be their "Boneless Wings." I tried to look online if this was a universal change but I don't see any mention of it. After doing research, I decided to call the store and I'm not sure if the description the rep gave me was good. They said they had problems with something so that's why the Boneless Wings are turning out like "nuggets." Why did they leave me 2 of the old pieces though? That doesn't make sense.
