Customer service, customer service, customer service... This is where you get it! No ordinary repair shop here. Jeff and Matt are the desk/phone guys that make sure you understand what they are doing to your car. (Important to those of us who don't know a thing about cars...) They are patient, friendly, expert communicators! How odd for someone like that to work in the automotive field... If your repair is going to be longer than expected, they will give you a ride home, but their lobby is extremely comfortable with leather couches, bookshelves, and games. It is also tastefully decorated with wallpaper, wainscoting and antiques. Feels like a nice living room where I feel comfortable curling up on the couch with a book while having my oil changed. There's also a clean bathroom for guests only and if you get hungry, I'm sure the gas station part of Bona Bros will provide! We have had all our cars serviced and maintained here for over ten years, because most importantly, they have our trust. read more

I have had a pretty good experience with Bona Bros these past few years, but recently had an unfortunate situation that has me doubting - I had a car in for $2,300+ of repairs, and when I got home, the check engine light was on (wasn't on before the repair). I took it back and they found the root cause the next day - turns out it was a part near where they were working and it must have been damaged during the original repair. They fixed it and comp'd the labor (nice of them), but charged me another $120 for the part! This part was FINE before they worked on it, and unrelated to the original issue, so I'm not sure why I had to pay for a part they apparently damaged during the original repair. And, given I'd just spent $2,300 with them, and have five cars I regularly bring there for service - well - I guess I just felt there was NO acknowledgement of what happened (other than, "somethings these things happen") and felt NO customer loyalty whatsoever - just felt like they were try to get more money from a customer. I realize it was 'just' another $120 this time, but it makes me question other services provided and charges that I've incurred there through the years. I value an organization that does right by their customers and this experience just seemed a bit 'shady' and left me doubting this company. Bona Bros is in my neighborhood and I've tried multiple times to give this place another chance as I want to support my neighborhood businesses. They are rude. There is absolutely no customer service and they are only busy because of convenience. They are a bad neighbor to the residences around them as well. In case you find the entire review too long to read I want to make sure you see the most important part: Bona Brothers fixed what I asked them to fix, for less than they quoted, and they didn't try to upsell me or take advantage of my lack of car knowledge. I posted on Facebook that I was looking for a mechanic in the Fridley/Columbia Heights/Nordeast area (because I am never going back to Bobby and Steve's) and a friend suggested Bona Brothers. He had some work done there recently after reading some positive Yelp reviews and had a good experience. I called them up and explained the issues I was having and was happy to hear that they could take a look the next morning. The guy who answered the phone was polite and friendly. I brought in the car the next day and was pretty surprised by the lobby. It's all bookcases and leather chairs with classical music playing. Not what I was expecting for an auto shop but very pleasantly surprising. The incongruity is fun without being too cloying. The guy who shuttled me back to my house was nice. They told me they'd run some tests and would likely call be around noon to tell me what they believed the problem was and how much fixing it would cost. Sure enough they called right when they said they would. The mechanic on the phone explained to me in terms I could understand (I am NOT a car person) what he thought the issue was and the options I had and what his recommendation was. He thought the logical action was to replace the thermostat and gasket and clean out some vents near the radiator (my car was coming very close to overheating pretty much all the time). He thought it would cost just under $300. He told me it would be ready in a few hours. They called me around 4 and said the new thermostat and gasket solved the problem, the car was running at a good temp consistently and I could come pick it up. When I got there and was handed the invoice it was only $250, the job came in $50 less than the amount quoted to me that I agreed to. A scuzzier mechanic could have just left the $50 on there even if the job went quicker than expected and I would have never known the difference, but Bona did the honest thing and only charged me for the work they actually did, and they didn't try to talk me into any extra or unnecessary work. So as I said, they fixed what I asked them to fix, for less than they quoted, and they didn't try to upsell me or take advantage of my lack of car knowledge. What more could you ask of an auto mechanic? read more

Bona Bros. is the only place I trust with my car. They have the friendliest staff, they always explain exactly what they are going to do/have done, and never try to upsell any repairs. As a matter of fact my first time there they ended up needing to do less work than was necessary to fix my car and when I came to pick it up they explained everything and my bill was much lower than expected. I was referred to them by my brother who works for BNSF the railroad. Bona Brothers works on all BNSF vehicles. I couldn't be more happy with their service. I have a 2003 Pontiac Grand Prix with 140,000 miles. Had a problem with the ignition key sticking. I didn't want to put a bunch of money into it. The service was amazing. .I was given a loaner vehicle for 3 days while they diagnosed the problem and came up with a very inexpensive solution. I decided to have them do a transmission fluid change as well as coolant flush. Couldn't be happier with their service and I recommend them highly!!!!!! read more

wish i could give it negative stars!!! Avoid this place like a Leper colony!!! Took my vehicle in for a starter and top up the transmission... After dropping it off at 7:30am, I got a phone call around 4:30ish. An estimated $750.00 to change the starter. After having the battery tested a couple weeks ago,me knowing full well that it was down to 800 cold cranking amps from 850, new that I would be looking at a battery soon also, they recommended I replace it. I had already looked into what it will take to change the starter, disconnecting the exhaust,supporting the trans and removing the trans support member, two bolts, electrical,then reassembly replacing the bolts for the exhaust as well as the donut gasket. all in all not something I wished to roll around on my driveway doing at almost a half century in age.... the replacement starter will be about $150.00 and the exhaust bolts and gasket around $35.00.... I would not have minded paying $200.00 - $300.00 for the labor, but we are talking about a $750.00 quote, not even addressing the trans fluid I had originally asked for... now we get to the even WORSE PART.... upon retrieving my unfixed vehicle.... I find that the battery is completely dead, not bolted back in place properly, everything around the console had been tossed in the back seat, the air conditioner had been left on - I very Rarely use it - AND the TRANSMISSION IS NOW SLIPPING SO BADLY THAT I COULD BARELY GET IT BACK HOME! to say that i am displeased with the service would be a horrible understatement. as it appears that with extra mileage and the new issues after leaving it in their care for a day, that it may have been used as a shuttle vehicle..... AVOID THIS ESTABLISHMENT AT ALL COSTS!!! read more

A local GMC dealership issued me a $1400 quote (ouch) for the radiator to be replaced in my Envoy. Profoundly disgusted with dealership service departments, I decided to shop around with the hope of finding an honest local automotive service company. Bona Brothers comes highly recommended by my fellow yelpers, and I've heard some positive word of mouth over the years. I called in late one evening and was promptly given a quote by Matthew for HALF what the dealership quoted me! While I was impressed, I thought it may be too good to be true and continued my search. A week later, I decided to check back in with Bona Brothers, and was given the exact same quote by Jeff. He politely told me he'd appreciate the opportunity to earn my business, so I decided to take him up on that offer. I dropped my car off at roughly noon on a Friday and was given a loaner car to use (at my request) free of charge. Jeff told me they should have the work completed later that day - which surprised me. Since this is the second time I've replaced a radiator in this vehicle, I thought it nearly impossible that I'd see my vehicle before Monday. Especially since the GMC dealership took nearly a day to simply diagnose the problem! I was proven wrong by Bona Brothers, and had my car back roughly seven hours after dropping it off. The radiator had been replaced and tested for quality; my vehicle was washed, and had the same amount of fuel and miles as when I left it. Bona Brothers did exactly what I asked them to do at exactly the price they quoted me. They did not try to upsell me, overcharge, extra-charge, or additional charge me for anything. Actually, the final bill came to two dollars and thirty cents less than what I was quoted by both Matthew and Jeff. The labor rate was lower than standard dealership pricing and the parts used are the same aftermarket brands used by any major service provider. For whatever reason, Bona Brothers is able to deliver quality service on an entirely different level. If your vehicle is in need of repair (major or minor) that you'll be paying "out of pocket" for, I cannot think of any reason why you wouldn't have these nice folks take care of it for you. You'll also be keeping your business local, and that's always a great thing. I am downright impressed with the level of service Bona Brothers provided, and they have certainly earned my repeat business. read more

I have been bringing my cars to Bona Brothers for about 15 years. I am a female who knows nothing about cars, and am always treated with respect here, and the employees here explain things to me in a way that I can understand. They have given me rides to work when I needed, yet I don't mind hanging out in the waiting area, which is super comfortable and pleasant. Recently, my husband got some bad news from Bobby and Steves about his vehicle and was told he had to spend $3,000 to get it fixed. We brought it to Bona Brothers for a second opinion, and they were honest enough to tell us it was only a $148 repair! These employees take pride in their work, are honest, and the service is done in a reasonable amount of time. With Bona Brothers, there is no room for improvement. I am so happy to have a place to bring my car to get fixed where I can TRUST that it will get fixed correctly, quickly, and with a reasonable, fair price, and that the employees are being honest with me as a consumer/car owner. Really friendly staff that was patient enough to explain everything in a way that made sense. Nice, classy lobby. Fair prices and solid work. It was Friday at 6:30pm when I called today and spoke with Matthew about my Jeep Liberty making a knocking noise, he said I could bring it in and that he might get to taking a look at it tomorrow. Dropped it off to a clean, neat and inviting auto shop expecting a huge bill and to see it sometime next week. Boy were my expectations wrong! Not only did I get a phone call back from Matthew by 7:30pm the same day saying that he and his team had already looked at my vehicle- but that it was fixed (was a wiggly tire) and that there was no charge for the simple fix! He even stated that I could come by and pick it up right away. In less than 2 hours I picked up my Jeep and it runs smooth. Best service I've ever had! I've owned three vehicles now and have never stuck to one shop, but I certainly will now! My transmission was acting funny on my 2008 Hyundai Elantra. I brought it in to a random shop and he recommended me to two other transmission shops. I brought it to both. One said he had no idea what was wrong with it and gave it back and the other quoted me over $5000 to repair and over $7000 for a new tranny. I finally found Bona Brothers by myself, brought it in and they had an estimate for me by the end of the day, and a new transmission in and ready the next day! But it gets better. They quoted me a price significantly lower than the other shop and I was happy with it any way, but when I went to pick up my car, they said they found me a better deal for a transmission and knocked off another big chunk! I was so happy, I practically started crying. But the best part? They completely cleaned my vehicle at no charge. Shampooed it and all. On top of the awesome service from the guys and fast, efficient repair, I also got a 1yr. warranty on my transmission. It's been several months now and it's still working great. I saw the reviews here and got my brakes done at Bona Bros. I have no complaints other than the price. They charged 3 hrs labor at $100 an hour to do 4 brake pads and 2 rotors. That may be what dealerships charge, but this isn't a dealership and some places charge 2 hrs at $60 an hour. But there were no problems with workmanship or part quality. Of course it was a pretty simple job also. Total cost was $650. read more

Got a flat tire. Scheduled to have my wheel replaced. Got a quote for it. Thought it was a good deal so I drove my car there. Dropped off my car. Walked home which is a 25 minute walk. Came back to the shop 4 hours later. Discovered they replaced all 4 tires instead. Representative on the phone thought I needed all 4 tires replaced. I clearly asked for a replacement tire for my flat... not FLATS. 3 of my old tires had 70-80% tread left. Not sure what he was thinking. Instead of paying $150 for one tire, I paid $700 for all 4 tires. Next day, decided to check my wheels for secure installation. Discovered they cross threaded two of my wheel studs on driver's side wheel. Also, several lug nuts were not torqued to manufacturer's spec. NEVER EVER COMING BACK HERE AGAIN. WOULD RATHER DRIVE WITH A FLAT THEN BRING MY CAR HERE. read more

After years of going here I can no longer use their services. Each time things get worse and worse. Most recently, I was given a total of $1900 after being quoted 1350 for replacing a couple of steering parts. I understand that parts maybe difficult to remove once in a while but that's too much of a deviation for any logical person. I assume they are used to dealing with municipalities which have deep pockets. Unfortunately that's not me and I ended up using my entire stimulus money on replacing 300 worth of parts. I should've done it myself and not trusted these guys again. Also, there steering was still messed up and it didn't drive straight. I decided to replace the $50 sway bar bushings and end links myself and presto!...it works fine now. I wonder if I even needed the 1900 repair. This place is a joke. They also will never give any quotes or even a ballpark over the phone. They just want to in and commited by charging $125 estimate fee. And they are extremely rude over the phone. Again, they must have enough municipal work where good customer service and competitive pricing is completely unnecessary. Stay far away!!! read more

Absolutely amazing!!! I had the wonderful opportunity to be stuck in a ditch during our most recent snow storm and had tore my front bumper and power steering had went out. After getting an estimate on a timeframe for my vehicle to be prepared by a major dealership (all the way into May) i sought other body and repair shops. After being turned away from a few places because their either handled Body work or just mechanical not both i found these guys via AAA. I mean from when Al picked up the phone and heard my frustration he quickly advised me that he was here to help...Music to my ears and relief...He handled the situation from the time he knew i would be sending him my vehicle and I instantly felt better and confidant that he would be very instrumental in resolving my crisis. The entire time he kept me up to date and fixed my vehicle promptly and you cannot tell that there had been any damage. Paint is exact and my power steering is back. He called and told me my vehicle was ready and that he had washed my truck up nice and new. When I got there and was ready to pull off I noticed that not only did he wash my vehicle but it was vacuumed out as well!!! I just wanted to say how much I appreciate Bona Bros! I had a road emergency moments before you closed on Monday night and your service manager Matthew did not hesitate to look at my car. I explained that I had a 2 1/2 hour drive ahead of me and needed to get back on the road as quickly as possible. He immediately began working to make my vehicle road ready and I was safely heading home in a very short time. What is so special about this situation is that he had nothing to gain by helping me. Being from out of town, he knew that he would not have me as a future customer. Being that I am not a car person and typically have anxiety issues when my car needs attention, Bona Bros is absolutely wonderful. When I call to get my car in, my description of "it's broken" is not mocked and when the actual diagnosis is given to me, it's in layman terms that I can understand and delivered respectfully. I feel that the pricing is reasonable and the waiting area is beautiful. On my last visit, I was given car keys for a loaner as my vehicle was going to take a while to fix. I didn't even know that this was an option and assumed I would just wait. I highly recommend The Bona Bros to everyone who asks for a recommendation. I'm not feeling the love like all these other reviewers... I've spent close to $1,000 there now for 2 oil changes & some repairs. I have yet to have my care vacuumed out, as others have indicated, & I'm pretty sure I haven't gotten the car wash either. Have indicated on work slip that I need new brakes soon, but couldn't tell me if it was the front or rear brakes because they didn't make note of it. Seriously? If you can make note of "needs new brakes soon" how difficult is it to include front/rear in that sentence in my file? And after some repairs a few months ago...I got a new mysterious noise. A loose bolt in the door they say.... Then...brought car in for an oil change about a month ago. Well, this last Fri I start smelling gas & it's slow to turn over. Thinking this could be dangerous & willing to give them one last shot, I bring my car there today. I appreciate them being able to get to it same day, but I'm told it's a leak in the fuel line due to rusting. I say "I just had my car there a few weeks ago for an oil change. No one said anything about a rusted fuel line." and I'm told that they can't possibly make note of everything that's rusting on a car because they wouldn't get anything done. Plus, they can't tell if something that's rusting is going to break a week from now or a year from now. I understand that, but seriously? You're under the car for an oil change and you can't let me know about a rusted fuel line? And I find it hard to believe that a fuel line that's a few weeks away from leaking doesn't look different than a fuel line that's a year away from breaking. And then on the drive home today...there's a new mysterious noise coming from my car!!! Are you kidding me? Is it a strange coincidence that the two times I've brought my car in for repairs I've gotten strange noises afterward? Don't think I will be returning. read more
