Brought a used 2006 BMW 330ci in yesterday for a pre-purchase inspection, and this shop blew my mind. The inspection was VERY thorough at 3 hours, and the emailed report included photos of the areas the technician thought service was needed on, as well as price estimates for those recommended services! All the guys in the shop treated me with respect and were very kind and helpful. The waiting room was nice and cozy and I had a lovely chat with the guys at the front desk and also another waiting customer while I was there. It definitely had a family-run, familiar and low-key atmosphere. I also thought the inspection was a steal of a deal for how thoroughly my car was looked at. I wasn't pressured to add any other services, though I will definitely be bringing all of our cars back here for any work they may need. If you have an import and are looking for a thorough and trustworthy place to work on it, definitely bring your business to this independent shop. They are amazing. read more

The plot thickens with the shop. Which I will never ever bring my car back to regardless of what they offer because it's probably not really what they're going to do. these people are crooked and dishonest to the point where I can't even figure out what's going on with my car or what they did. Yes my reviews are months apart but the reason for that is because the only way I find out about this stuff is when I get an oil change Every 5 to 8K at the Bloomington motor works. So after they supposedly rectified all the mistakes that they had made, I took my car in for an oil change and reported that the same shake in my steering wheel that I took my car to DJs for was again present.The dealership once again looked at the brakes and found that I have aftermarket parts that have been put on my car. Seems odd to me since one of the main selling points of DJs is that they use OEM parts. This is the cause for the premium that you pay at the shop. You're supposed to be getting warranty OEM parts. In fact I have the warranty information for the parts on my car. However Bloomington motor Works has again told me that they do not know what the parts are and they are definitely not BMW parts. So now the question once again is why did I pay $1400 to get an OEM brake caliber and pads and rotors put on if I didn't get what I paid for. Also what is the warranty of three years for the parts good for if the parts that the warranty covers aren't actually on my car. Also also I think this is the reason why they probably didn't give me new warranty info for the corrections on their initial mistakes. I planned on going to the shop with my two BMWs for everything that I needed based off of the reviews, And I have no idea how my experience has been so awful. The front desk asshole could barely even look at me when I came in to get their mistakes fixed. I felt like I was doing something wrong and being rude when really it was their mistakes and them being rude that brought me back there in the first place. Do not take your car to this crooked shop. I cannot stress this enough. This involves the brakes of my car. I do not appreciate my well being put in jeopardy, my car being put in jeopardy, nor do I appreciate being lied to and treated less than human repeatedly by this shop. I was told both the first time I brought it in to get the brake fixed and the second time I brought it in to get them actually fixed that the shop owner Darwin would be doing all of the work. This has a lot to say about what you should expect from the shop if this is the work of the shop owner. I'm sure they'll put some bullshit after this review that says that they did everything correctly but I am fully prepared to show proof of that they are lying about what they did and in fact writing fraudulent OEM warranties for things that aren't OEM or under warranty. What would've happened if I lost control when my steering wheel was shaking because of the lackluster job they did once again and I got into a car accident risking my life and others driving around me? I doubt they would care because that's what kind of shop this is. My only guess as to why the shop has treated me entirely different than all of the reviews that are written about them might have something to do with the fact that I am a trans woman. I went into the shop to personally express my gratitude for Darwin's willingness to fix the wrongs that were initially made against me and he told me he was too busy. Probably because he can't even look me in the eye because he knows he didn't do the job he says he's doing. This man lies through his teeth and excepts no responsibility for the work that he does and passes it off on his workers. When I asked who worked on my car when he told me it wasn't him even though he initially told me it was his work, he told me that he wasn't sure but that employee was fired or not with them anymore for some reason. How can you not know who that person is if you know that they no longer work for you? More lies on top of more lies on top of more lies. Do not take your car here. read more

Part !: Left the house to run some errands first thing in the morning and our Range Rover was decidedly not running well. Attempted to make an appointment at Land Rover Minneapolis first thing, only to find out that it'd be about 3 weeks before I could get in for service. Not ideal, but no real choice. Took the car in 3 weeks later as scheduled, relayed the issues to the service tech and left the car with the dealer in hopes the issue wasn't serious. The next day, the tech called and said they'd been unable to identify the problem but had a couple more things to test and said it would be the next day before we'd know. No problem. The next day he called as promised and said they'd deduced that it was an issue with the timing chains and the repair would be $8500. Yikes! I had no reason to doubt his word, but for $8500, just felt like a second opinion might be warranted, so found DJs Foreign Auto Repair in downtown Minneapolis on Yelp. They were able to get me in that afternoon, so picked up the car from Land Rover and drove it straight to the repair shop downtown. The next day, I got a call from the shop saying I needed a new fuel pump and, while still expensive at $4200, wasn't anywhere close to the $8500 expense quoted at the Range Rover dealer. Needless to say, we took his advise, had the fuel pump repaired and the car's been running like a top in the month since. Part 2: Noticed an odd grinding sound coming from the rear brakes this week and recalled our Range Rover mechanic in Phoenix saying the brakes were close to being due for replacement. I elected to hold off until they were actually due, but, given this new development, and the fact we're pulling our boat back to Arizona Friday, thought it best to get them examined before we depart. Given the great experience we had at DJs just weeks earlier, I called to see if they could squeeze me in this week. Sure enough, "bring the car right in and we'll have a look". Dropped the car off Monday afternoon with a promise to call first thing Tuesday once they looked at the car. The next morning, Justin called and said the brakes were completely fine and had plenty of life left on them. What a great surprise! Returned to DJs later that morning to pick up the car and pay for the inspection, only to find out that there was "no charge" for the service. It's not often you find a knowledgeable, trustworthy mechanic, especially for tricky foreign cars, but I can say we've found one here in Minneapolis. The service and integrity of DJs has been proven twice in less than a month and we'll continue to have our car serviced there as long as we own it. read more

Pretty much the most horrible experience I've ever had with a mechanic. I actually like the mechanic that worked on my Mini Cooper, went off of all the reviews, but in the end they charge 2x -3x the cost for repairs. They do not take the time needed to make sure the car is ready, I was missing screws and bolts, fluids were not topped off and after spending about 1600.00 there you would think you would get better service. Not very knowledgeable, wasted a ton of time and money. Took my care to Wilson's off highway 8, my car has now never run better, the shop cares about what they're doing and the cost was actually so shocking I even tipped 50.00. Honestly, if you don't know a lot about cars these guys are a rip off. They'll sell you every flush in the book like Jiffy Lube, while your car will run like you trusted Jiffy Lube to repair it. read more

They took 24 hours longer than their estimated time of completion They forgot to put a piece back on the car and had me waiting longer than expected They had me come in a day after my appointment because they didn't have time to look at my car These guys do okay/good work and I would trust them with my car again but they need to be more realistic about their time management and they need to do a more thorough job and not forgot to put the car back together just as they took it apart. Sidenote: my friend went here a few years ago and they took 3+ months for an engine swap when they estimated 3 weeks. So just by the pattern here you should take their estimated date of completion with a grain of salt. All that aside, my car is running wonderfully. read more

They've worked on my BMW a few times -- DJs does better work than the local BMW dealerships without the dealer attitude and crazy prices. Had a recent repair that turned out to be bigger than anticipated (salt corrosion made it impossible to disassemble the hub normally), and they did a great job sourcing used parts where the originals were too far gone. Great communication throughout, they were also great about getting my OK when the scope of the repair increased and didn't proceed with any additional work until I approved it. Car now drives smooth as butter, can't believe the difference. read more

I sent me Mini Cooper here for overall inspection and for battery replacement. The quality of the service is decent - they've done a thorough inspection and given me details reports. They also offered complimentary car wash which is good. But their price is really high. They charged 98 for the inspection and 320 for the battery replacement- these are 60 USD higher than elsewhere I quoted. That's why I gave only 3 stars - not due to the service but the price. read more

wanted a quote on brake pads to be replaced in my Mercedes and Darwin insisted I bring it in so I did. I waited about 20 minutes for the receptionist to photo graph my car and I thought that was a little strange, and when she came back in I asked if there was a charge to get a quote and she disappeared for 5 minutes and said it was $50.00 to get a quote so I asked for my keys and left. If you go to this place do ask if they can give you an estimate of the costs over the phone or what they will be charging. They should have told me this before I drove all of the way there. read more

I am appalled at the service I received from this place. I brought my car in because my regular mechanic couldn't get me in for over a week. I didn't have any heat and they told me my radiator was leaking and the heater control unit as well. They wanted to charge an exorbitant amount of money for the work. I took it in to my regular mechanic and they said the radiator was not leaking at all. They left the vacuum gauge on there for an hour and it held the entire time. Then they printed out a bunch of things they supposedly looked at on my car that i did not ask them to, probably why I was charged $120 for a diagnosis. One of the items said my "timing belt was cracked and worn and needs replacing." Well my car has a timing chain and it is in fine condition when I looked at it to adjust my valves two months ago. If I had all the work done that they "recommended" I would probably be spending about $10,000. Just another untrustworthy mechanic trying to take as much money as possible from unsuspecting victims. I will never take my car here again, and will try to steer anyone I know away from here. read more
