I have NOT bought a Car since 2006 and was never the type to Keeping Up with the Jones. Anyways I notice when going to work early morning my Chevy Trailblazer (Who I named Old Faithful) was reving really hard. As I continued to drive it out to where I had to go the Check Engine light went on. I had this problem before which is an Engine Misfire. On one of the Sparkplugs and Cylinders. I had contact my relative and she sent me to Midas In Eden Prairie, MN. Boy DID I MAKE A BIG MISTAKE. Midas told me I had to replace a whole cylinder head!! IT was gonna cost me $6k!! That is like a good used car! On top of that they we're inspecting other parts of the car that was not necessary! Unfortunately, I had to pay $122 for the diagnostic but I by change had contacted on Craig's List another Mechanic who referred me to Erik. I had told Erick and he himself was shocked at my story! He new Midas was BS-ing and I went to him. My engine was still fine! I just needed new spark plugs which he believed Midas technicians damage by pulling it out the improper way and new great quality coils which I should have don vs buying from Ebay. All in All I only spent $400 and my engine was running great. Please come over here! He won't rip you off with Lies about the car! 5 stars in my book especially coming from Chicago, IL.

Utilizing a stock convertor because that's what rock crawlers use. He put this transmission together using the cheapest possible parts. The trans literaly split the over run race in half and the bearings left the chat. This was the 2nd time out with the rig mind you. My only mistake was trusting this hack to build the trans accordingly. His rebuttal was i should have used a th400. While this may be true the platform does not suppost a larger transmission. Furthermore a quality built th350 should last more then 4 hrs of light use on the trail.

They started draining my transmission fluid at 9am, and I was given my van back at around 11:40am. They told me I might need the original pan gasket that was not on the van when I took it in, and was not the gasket which was included with the WIX filter. They also told me my rear transmision seal might be leaking and need replaced. I drove 4 miles South to Discount Tire in Blaine to get a new tire. I was there about 30 minutes and they informed me I had a transmission leak. I stopped in next door for lunch and called back to the transmission shop to let them know I had a leak. Kirby, the owner, told me to bring it back so they could try to fix the leak. Kirby said it would probably be about $100.00 I took the van back right after lunch, and the mechanic who had been doing my transmission flush returned from lunch just after I arrived, and got to work changing my rear transmission seal. My mechanic, Tony, told me the seal was the main problem, but that I probably would need the factory style original pan gasket to stop slight leaks at the gasket. The seal replacement total bill was $116.00. The rear seal the next day seems to be dry with no leak puddle under my van like which occured at Discount Tire, but I do have a slight leak still around the gasket which came with the new WIX filter. My van is a 2002 Chevrolet Express 3500 with the 4L80E transmission, a 13 year old service van. Overall I was impressed with this shop's professional knowledge and work ethics. I look forward to doing business with them in the future.

Re-review. I can do…read morebasic auto work. But it's not always easy. I don't have a car lift. I don't have specialty tools and have to borrow or head to O'Reilly Auto Parts (did you know O'Reilly's has a tool rental program? To rent tools from your local O'Reilly Auto Parts, simply purchase the auto parts you need and put down a deposit on the rental tool. Return the rental tool in its original condition and receive a full refund when you bring it back.) Regardless, Skip's has been my go-to for auto work. Sometimes I don't have the time (or focus or room) or I'm in over my head. They will suss out the problem and do the work at a competitive (it used to be *too* low) shop rate. Apparently it's a different company now. I brought my car in to replace a purge valve. It's a busy time of year for a lot of us, and I was willing to pay to get it done. I walked in and explained the issue. They asked for a diagnostic fee. I had a flashback to my local auto repair shop where I had an ignition coil out and it wound up costing $1,800 total for a 15-minute, top-of-the-motor, single-bolt, $75-dollar-part coil replacement. Which I have done twice since with a ratchet and a $75 coil. I left and changed the purge valve myself. 30 minute, top-of-the-motor, single-10mm-bolt replacement of a $55 part. And now I'm back on the road. I'll stop back, but I'm not so sure I like the way things are going.

This business has now been purchased by Golden Valkey Tire. I brought my personal vehicle here right after the transition, before I realized what was different. I had a fine experience and got quoted slightly above competitors for some repairs. The experience was reasonable overall, although I did feel like everyone behind the front desk was really judging me for not wanting to proceed with some repair options that I were presented to me. I came back a few weeks later with company vehicles since my employer had used this place in the past, and the vibe had deteriorated so much more. This truly is a Golden Valley Tire owned operation and it's not good. Things went wrong from the scheduling of the appointment. The person on the other end of the line was completely fumbling through the system and muttering to himself. He couldn't figure out how to get things to save even. Of course he didn't tell me that though, so when I showed up there was no appointment. I gave them the simple instruction to give the vehicle an oil change so that it would be ready to pick up later. They emailed me a full inspection report which was thorough and detailed, but guess what? They didn't do the oil change. I guess they wanted some sort of approval, but it was a busy work day and if I tell them it's the only reason for my visit I expect it to get done and the vehicle to be ready when I come to pick it up. This place is a mess right now. I hope they can find a way to improve, I understand transitions can be hard, but...proceed with caution if you're considering being a customer here.

I am not going back there again. While I like the guys there, they gouge my wallet big time. I went in for a noise in the front end. I needed wiper blades and wanted them to check why my turbo gauge was not working, the mirror and rear defrosters were not working well, and my intermittent wipers did not work "intermittently". I also had a TPMS sensor failure on the left rear, which I knew about but never mentioned until they called and told me. I already knew, so no need for a replacement, as I plan to get new tires in the summer with new sensors. So for each one of those things, they wanted a $160 diagnosis fee at the end. 5 diagnostic fees totaling over $ 700. WHAT?! After my surprise and anger, they cut the diagnosis fees to 1/2 hour each and removed the TPMS sensor one. Woot Woot! I ended up with a total or $330 in diagnosis fees. Still too much as I knew about all of these things and they needed NO diagnosis, except maybe the wipers and Turbo Gauge. However, the gauge was working and evidenced by them starting the truck and revving it up. Must have been the -21 degrees that caused it that day. But $80 for that. The wiper intermittency was a setting on the dash for a rain sensor. I must have changed it at some point not knowing. $80? Brake inspections and front suspension inspections are usually free. I used to manage and work at Firestone and Tires Plus auto centers. Another $80? The used a Thermal camera to check defrosters. Mirrors were working and rear was 1/2 working. Cold weather again? No quotes or repairs, just $80 again. I guess they actually did something here. OK. I had told them the noise (humming) was likely a Caliper sticking. It was. They said both were sticking. Not likely, but possible. They were not very old. You should always do brakes and other things in the front end in pairs. They could have just said that, and I would have agreed. Brake jobs in my experience were about $500 per axel, which did not include calipers. I am sure more like $600 now. Calipers will add about $300 for the pair. Yeah, I am thinking $800. Nope $1300! They also did a brake fluid exchange instead of just bleeding the new calipers and adding a few ounces of fluid. $215.00, which is already part of the 1300. This normally would mean exchanging all fluid in all lines and all calipers, including the master cylinder. NOPE. rears were not touched. So I am guessing a manual bleed and an ounce or 2 of fluid. Not very happy VIP customer here. I would have paid $1100 for all this, but Not $1724..56! So, in my mind, it should have been about $1000 for the brake job in total, $30 for Wiper Blades (they charged me $47 - OK I guess), and maybe a total 0f $80 for inspections/diagnosis. Maybe $100. Labor of $857, Parts of $758, plus a $38.20 Shop Supplies fee (kind of a standard, but $38 - really, guys?) - add taxes and you get the $1724. This is about a 4-hour job in my mind. been around this stuff all my life. $210/hour labor? I know the parts were under $400, their cost as well. Likely $300. I did approve a $1300 quote over the phone. WOW. 1724? Be careful guys. Very pricy here and Honest should not be in their name.
