We love Boiling Point, and even though it's far, we decided to order takeout since it's a special occasion. But what a letdown! The staff was friendly. The food was delicious, with enough flavor and many sauce packets and soup. However, it's best to AVOID ordering takeout from here if they have a promotion. The promotion they have going on is the buy one get one free hot pot. When I went in around noon, I was told it was only for dine-in--that's understandable. Then they told me it would be dinner price with no complimentary teas because they needed to accommodate those dining in. It's pretty outrageous to me, but we did not travel for almost an hour to not bring anything home. While the food is delicious, I don't think this is the way to do business. read more

Came here for lunch with some friends. It's not too busy in the afternoon and there are lots of places to sit inside. The service is fast and the food comes out quickly after ordering. I got the Beef Hot Pot mild spice with the upgraded rice. The hot pot itself was good, I like all the toppings in it, but I do with there was a little more beef and fish cake. Even though I got mild it was still kind of spicy. My one tip is get the upgraded rice!! It's only 80cents but it comes with fried shallots, green onions, and garlic sauce. It's so good! Great food, decent service. Price was good for food given. Think Tasty Pot but better! Food (8/10) - Their food and flavor is REALLY good. The soup is jam-packed with flavor and I love the topics that they have inside. I got the Taiwanese Spicy which has by far my favorite items (noodles, pork blood, etc.) However, I would like to caution you against ordering this unless you really think you can handle the spice. The flaming hot is FLAMING and will burn. Still delicious though. The lime konjac jelly they give at the end of the meal is delicious too. The only complaint is that a lot of their most popular options have peanuts and it can be a bit limiting for people with a peanut allergy. Service (7.5/10) - Nice and attentive servers. They are constantly checking in and helping you fill up your soup. I had to ask for several refills to dilute my pot... Only thing is that their server tried to tell us that the BOGO on taro was only at certain times when it explicitly stated on their menu that it was all day. Not a big knock but just something to note. Ambiance (7.5/10) - The restaurant was eerily quiet. They had music playing at one point but it turned off and became a bit awkward. All you hear is the sound of pots boiling. Also nothing significant of note but something to comment on. Price (8.5/10) - I think the price is actually really good. The Taiwanese spicy was a pretty big pot with a ton of toppings and was about $25. I've never left a review like this before, but this experience at Boiling Point was so bad it honestly shocked me. The waitress we had was beyond rude. She ignored our table completely, took the order of people who walked in after us, and wouldn't even look at us until I had to raise my voice to get her attention. When she finally came over, she skipped my sister entirely and didn't bother writing down her order. Then when I asked for extra cream, she came back and tossed my bowl at me -- yes, actually tossed it. That's not a mistake, that's attitude. All three of us got our food except my sister. We sat there waiting over 25 minutes, only to find out from another waiter that her order was never even entered. That same waiter didn't care either -- wouldn't turn around to face us, never checked back, just brushed it off. When I asked for the waitress's name, he said he "didn't know." When I asked who could tell me, he said "I don't know." I asked for a manager, and apparently there "wasn't one." So basically, no accountability, no professionalism, and no respect for customers. This was one of the worst restaurant experiences I've ever had. If management actually reads reviews, you seriously need to retrain or replace your staff because this is embarrassing for your brand. I've always enjoyed the food and variety at Boiling Point. The prices have certainly gone up, but thankfully the portions remain generous with plenty of meat and four unique sauces to choose from. My only complaint during my recent lunch visit was the service; we had to ask for our iced tea three times! It was frustrating to see other tables receiving their complimentary drinks while we waited. On a positive note, the staff was accommodating with our requests and checked in on us periodically, which was appreciated. The place is pretty clean and a good amount of seating. Giving the waitress the benefit of the doubt, I can understand that it might be difficult to tell whether a cup is empty. However, it would be best not to assume that everyone has enough water. I have been to similar places, like Tasty Pot, and the customer experience can vary quite a bit. The prices here are on the higher side, but the portions are slightly larger. I ordered the Thai tomato soup, which was tasty but definitely on the sweeter side; tom yum soup is not supposed to be sweet. It seems they added some sugar or sweetener to the soup base. We also ordered the House Special soup base (House special (stinky stinky pot in Chinese) The texture of the cabbage in the soup was enjoyable, but if you're unsure about this dish, you might want to choose something else, as the soup has a strong smell of stinky tofu and is definitely an acquired taste. The perfect thing to eat on a cold day (or any time, really)! We visited Boiling Point for a Sunday dinner and was met without a wait fortunately. Inside, it's rather small and this location in particular probably isn't too ideal for larger groups. Once we ordered, our soups came promptly within 10-15 minutes which was great since we had a larger group of about 12 people. I knocked down a star since we received minimal service; our waters were all empty, the sauces weren't refilled -- every time we needed something we had to get up and to flag someone hidden in the back. Nonetheless, the soup was good! I've been to a few BP locations before, and the Beef Hot Soup has always been my favorite. They have boba drinks here also which are okay but meets the craving :') The soups are just about the right amount to share with another person IMO. Boiling Point is my all-time favorite preset hot pot restaurant. From the first time I tried it at their Pasadena location, I became addicted. The taiwanese spicy pot is unparalleled and I am so obsessed with this dish that I plan my week around when I'm going to eat it because the spice messes with the next day's plans (be warned - it is spicy and you will want to remain in close proximity to your restroom the next day but it is so so worth it). The sauces have changed slightly since I last visited a BP in person years ago. Is it possible they improved upon perfection? I can see why they have such small spoons for the sauce containers. If they were any bigger they'd have to resupply between each diner because each one is so addictive. Sadly the service is not the best here. Everyone is friendly enough, but it is very difficult to flag down a server and it feels like a game of chance whether you will be checked on during your meal. The two times I visited this year, I had to flag down servers for water refills, more rice, more napkins, and the check. I was also charged for an additional bowl of rice despite the ongoing promotion of "unlimited rice" (The fine print said 2 extra bowls were complimentary). I didn't notice until after I paid and it was so difficult getting a server's attention to begin with, that I decided it wasn't worth my time to squabble over another $3. Even on days when the food isn't at 100% I ALWAYS leave feeling satisfied! Yes, the rice can be mushy sometimes. Yes the meat can be stuck together sometimes... but despite all of that, the taste of the broth and the sauces is just unmatched in my opinion. I always get the Japanese miso (larger size) and share with my sister. Tip: Use all of the sauces. It's a game changer. She DID NOT even asked and came out with two cup of water NOT even cold water with ice it just gross tap water. I was already not liking her service. You can flag down your waiter to give you more "broth" which I think is more water in your soup if it starts to burn. They can also turn off/put out the fire for you so it can stop cooking. There's also a couple of sauce options at the table for you. Most are spicy options. There are drink options but I didn't try them. The walkway in between tables is a little narrow too so be careful. This place is my go to whenever it's feeling chilly or cold out! I usually get the Korean Bean Paste Soup and my partner gets the Beef soup. It's usually packed during the weekday lunch rush and on the weekends in the evening for dinner so I highly recommend to come a bit early to avoid the crowd. For the soups, there are some options to choose from for the spice level, (none, mild, medium, hot and flaming) unless stated it's only spicy such as the Taiwanese Spicy soup. I usually get mild for the Korean Bean Paste soup and it's not too bad at all as there is flavor. The meat portion is alright, sometimes they do come in clumps which I recommend to separate the meat when the soup is first lit up. As for the beef broth soup, I highly recommend adding some sauces/spice to it as it is not too flavorful. The sauces they have are Garlic Bean Paste, Garlic Soy Sauce, and Chili Oil. My favorite combo is the garlic bean paste and garlic soy sauce as it never fails me! Definitely recommend for a filling lunch/dinner or if you want to try different soup flavors! read more

We came for Saturday lunch around 2pm for two people. The inside main seating area is small (see picture) and was full (quoted 20-30 min wait). We chose to sit at the bar for no wait time. The bar is the big table in between the door and the cash register. They bring out seats for you (you don't have to stand!). I liked the bar seating because we were the first and only people there for a while so we had a lot of space and privacy. The table is super wide so I recommend parties sit side by side instead of across the table from one another. The free green tea during lunch was sweet and refreshing. My boyfriend loves the Hokkaido milk tea. It's creamy and sweet and has this light milky/fatty aftertaste. I really like the garlic soy sauce and garlic bean paste they have. The beef soup was good. It comes with a lot of ingredients. We ordered one soup to share with extra beef on the side. I don't eat a lot so next time I would only have one soup to share with no extra beef. We upgraded our rice to the scallion rice which was so delicious. The soy sauce is pretty strong in the scallion rice though so I switched to the white rice halfway (we ordered an extra white rice). read more

I love hot pot and I normally love Boiling Point, so it was a bit of a letdown this time. We got there at around 6 PM on a Monday night, and there was no other customer inside, which I thought was a bit strange. Regardless, it was a nice and quiet place to sit and eat for the night, and more people eventually came into the restaurant later on. I ordered the House Special hot pot with the scallion gravy rice (0.80 extra). The scallion gravy rice was FIRE!!! Would totally get again. The gravy was so savory and not too overpowering, and it paired well with the raw scallions on top. For the hot pot... honestly, everything about it was pretty average. I got the spicy level rather than my normal medium spice, but I felt like the only difference between my mom's medium spice and my spicy level was that mine tasted more oily. Did they just add more chili oil to the same broth and call it spicier? The veggie content was okay, nothing special, and the extras in the hot pot were pretty okay too. But the meat? not great. It was very hard and tough to get down... it almost makes me think that it was frozen and thawed to order? For such a thin slice of meat, you want it to be fresh and cooked with the soup rather than overcooked in the kitchen. I probably won't come back, at least not to this location. read more

Loved the long menu and chick cutlery n tableware. Friendly staff and not crazy expensive. Their spice levels range from no spicy to very spicy. Iam indian and love spicy food and i think medium was really spicy so better to start from "mild" and work your way up on subsequent visits. Love the fact that they serve "no spice" and "very spicy". This way everyone can enjoy their flavorful soup! On my first visit today, i tried their creamy curry hot pot (it comes with vermicelli so i ordered my free add on to be rice). I also asked for a side of instant ramen noodles (additional side) and it was all very yummy!! Next time i plan to upgrade my rice to "curry rice". One of my friends tried their beef hot pot and loved it. She is a regular and swears by it. The lunch combo comes with a free drink - green tea or black tea of ur choice. Both are already slightly sweetened. Quixk service- we were served in less than 10 mins and they kept coming back to check on us if we needed extra soup or switch off the fire, etc. They finish it off with a complimentary lemon dessert which was yummy :) Average cost for lunch : $20 per person Good quality ingredients and fancy ambiance. Got the lamb and it was decent, nothing to really complain about for sliced meat in hot pot but the broth was a little lacking and really needed the sauces. It just didn't have much flavor. I do like the variety of veggies and other hot pot balls that they give. They now give double meat which I don't really notice a difference and a drink with your meal but I haven't drank them a couple times because they are super artificial and overly sweet. The sliced pork was clumped together, but was overall very tender and soaked up the broth well. The sliced potatoes and the fish balls were my favorite part! FYI: It came with vermicelli noodles already, so I recommend getting the rice as your free side. My cousin got the Korean Bean Paste Soup "medium" and it was really spicy for her, so be careful when you're ordering your spice level! Our waitress seems to not understand mandarin yet she does have some kind of accent when she speaks. So we didn't understand what she meant "melo" and when we try to ask her what was the options she got very angry and frustrated. Seeing how everytime we visited Osaka Marketplace and would see people waiting outside this place, we wanted to try it out on a cold Saturday noon. The inside seating is pretty small and crowded. It's easy to be elbow to elbow with the table next to you, and we couldn't avoid the awkward situation of our neighbors watching us eat our pots while they waited for theirs. That was not fun. Additionally, you can smell the stinky tofu smell as soon as you walk into the restaurant. My bf, being new to the hot pot scene, was not a fan. Also because I can read Chinese I could tell the lamb hot pot was a sour soup base, even though it was not specified in English. So just thinking for the picky eaters, if they hadn't known and ordered what they thought was a normal lamb hot pot but then getting it with a sour soup base would probably affect their experience and lunch. You get a complimentary black or green tea with your pot order. You can also upgrade it to a large for $1 more. For these drinks, and water as well, they come out in plastic cups which I understand for covid/hygienic reasons but dislike for environmental reasons. The pots were ok. Bf ended up getting a beef pot with no spicy, and I got the miso pork. There are a lot of veggies, tofu skin and fillers in the pot, but the pork felt like just a clump of meat stuck together, pre-cooked, and just placed in there. Like I mentioned in the beginning, the tables were not spacious. I couldn't even place my phone anywhere on the table with 2 pots, utensils and the drinks. The lighting in the restaurant was also very dim. The place filled up pretty quick - within 15 minutes the restaurant was basically full. However, I don't think we'll return.
