Our food and experience here was good. Not best I ever had good which for me is 4 or more stars, but still quite good. Keep in mind we've spent an entire day walking around Universal Studios and were starving. Had the skirt steak as recommended and the steak was so tender and juicy and cooked perfectly. The menu says side of roasted vegetables which turns out was two pepper halves and a small spear of zucchini & eggplant. Does anyone really look forward to peppers? My husband and I were underwhelmed with the side. None of it was seasoned and the zucchini & eggplant were just barely warmed and very crunchy. My family ate here a few weeks ago, and the dinner was decent, but our impression of this place has been tarnished by the poor management. During the dinner, we purchased two bottles of wine, listed at $45 each. After getting the bill, the bottles of wine were listed at $145 each. an extra $200 on our bill. Well, we had been drinking, and having a good time, so we payed it without noticing and not until later realized by how much they overcharged us. Since then, we've been on the phone with the owners about refunding our money for a couple weeks, even at once being told we'll get a refund although we never have. Our family is tired of playing these cat and mouse games with this business, and if they want to treat us this way, then i will get myself and everyone else i know to rate these guys 1 star and to never eat here again. OR, they could be decent human beings and refund us! I'll be waiting! Til then, this review will be up here! First time eating here! Food is great, service is outstanding!! We order parrillada 3 meats, along with garlic fries, grilled vegetables and rice. We did family style meal!! It was 5 of us and we had more then enough food! Meats were tender (needed a little bit more seasoning) but overall parrillada was good, all side were good.. We also order dessert! Hands down the best Argentinian food. My fiancé and I came in for date night and left so happy and full. We ordered the lomo, ojo de bife, mushrooms, and empanadas and everything was delicious. From the starter bread and chimichuri to the sauces - there wasn't a single thing that we didn't like. The meat was perfectly seasoned and cooked. It just melted in your mouth. The portions are also quite big so you will leave here with a full stomach. Service was great. We were immediately seated. Our waiter was super kind, always checking in on us and gave us some awesome recommendations for sides. Valet parking is available, but there is plenty of parking in the side streets. Chose to come here from the awesome dinner selection on the Dine La menu. Parking: street. Ambience: dark, romantic. Service: friendly but not very attentive. Food: Starters- 1) Langoustine salad. This was an awesome light and refreshing salad. The langoustine was super fresh and sweet. It paired nicely with the frise and citrus dressing. 2) Beef tartare. This was a winner in my book. The tartare itself had truffle oil in it served with yucca chips on the side, avocado and carrot sh'mear. Yum! Entree- 1) Branzino. Skin was crisp and the fish itself was moist and fresh. Very well cooked and seasoned. It was served with some remaster veggies and mashed potatoes. The mashed potatoes didn't wow me but they definitely weren't bad. Overall a very simple dish but tasty. 2) prosciutto wrapped lamb tenderloin. So I originally ordered this medium rare but it came out well done. That's a no no for me, but they kindly took it back and brought back the wellness of my liking. This dish is definitely rich. It's served with a mushroom sauce, marscapone polenta, and some sautéed spinach. The lamb was delicious and moist. The polenta was to die for. So creamy and luscious. The spinach was a tad on the salty side though. Overall, a solid dish Dessert- 1) caramelized pear crepe. Oh my gawd!!!!! This was amazing. The crepe had want seamed like charred sugar on the outside and it was served with pistachio ice cream. An awesome combination. Not painfully sweet like I thought it would be. So good! 2) flourless chocolate cake. If you're a chocolate lover, this is for you. Served with a creme anglaise. This was also a winner. Very rich and decadent. As a chocolate dessert should be. Overall this place was really good. Like I said, the service was friendly, but not very attentive. It took a while to get my waiter's attention to tell him about my over cooked meat. Other than that, he rarely came by during out meal to check on us. At least he was nice when he did come, but that's something that needs to be worked out. Would I come back? Yes! A few years ago, I went to a wine tasting and fell in love with Malbec wine. So, to hear that there is an Argentine Bistro located nearby named Malbec made me feel like I was going to dive into a pool of Malbec wine and happily swim-drink myself to the surface. Malbec is the ultimate low-key yet elegant dining experience in Toluca Lake. Charming, warm, and classy; yet without the high prices and pretentious clientele of Weho establishments. The dining room welcomes you with brown hues, stone/brick accents, and candles and ambient lighting. You certainly feel the elegance yet don't have to pull up in a rented BMW in order to fit in. We had reservations at 6 on a Saturday and were taken care of in a polite and courteous way. Seconds after we sat down, water was served and a smiling waitress was at our whim. We started with the wine list and of course opted for a Malbec (naturally). The waitress was VERY informed and resourceful about the wine options, their flavors, textures, etc. She allowed us to taste samples of several kinds before making a bottle selection. Of course she suggested one of the priciest offerings but it was well-worth it. Robust but with a medium body and with an excellent cheesy smell which is familiar to Malbecs... I was in heaven. Along with our wine, we tried the Provoleta a la Criolla appetizer ( Melted provolone cheese served in an iron skillet with roasted peppers, shallots, tomato, and toasted bread -- $8.95) which was slightly disappointing as it was merely a skillet of melted cheese with no spices or flavor and only came with two small bagel-chip sized "toasted bread" (we had 4 people). Luckily, we used out table-side bread to resolve the issue. For my entree, I ordered the special of the day: Lenguado al Limon (Pan-roasted pacific sole fillet, capers in a lemon sauce, roasted potatoes and wild arugula salad-- $19.95 ). Holy hot mama, it was delicious! The sole was let in your mouth buttery smooth while the capered lemon sauce was a perfect accent with thick lemon-y goodness but not too over-powering. The roasted potatoes were the best roasted potatoes I've ever had: crisp on the outside and perfectly soft and mouth-watering on the inside. The salad was even delicious with the just right amount of oiled vinaigrette (however the pieces were cut a bit too long). I tried a few pieces of the Entrana al Chimichurri (Grilled skirt steak basted in a traditional Argentinean chimichurri sauce. Served with grilled vegetables -- $17,95) which is a popular dish at Malbec. TOO DIE FOR! Tender, cooked to perfection, juicy, and just the right amount of spice and seasoning. I don't think I've ever eaten a happier dead cow! One of the members of our dinner party was celebrating a birthday so they offered free ice cream which we accepted along with an Apple Tart. It wasn't anything special but was beautifully presented with fresh berries and cream. Malbec has become one of my favorite restaurants in a matter of hours. Absolutely delicious, elegant, and filling food yet with prices which don't break your wallet. Plus, the environment is classy and yet not stuffy. I can't rave enough about it. Yes.. As good as Argentine food gets in Toluca Lake. Just got back from having lunch there and am satiated and satisfied. Locale: Parking can get tricky, but get here a little early and you'll be fine. The street can get noisy so you may want to sit inside. The ambiance/vibe is nice inside, too. Service: The waiter was quite friendly and attentive. I didn't get his name, but he treated us quite well. For example, one of the people with whom I dined is vegan. When my friend asked for his sandwich with no cheese, the waiter responded, "Vegan? Or Vegetarian?" Needless to say, we were floored that he even knew "Vegan". :) Food: All ingredients were fresh and our meals were delicious and an excellent value for the (lunch) price. The entrees sampled today included: Filet de Lenguado con Alcaparras (Filet of Sole with capers), the vegetable sandwich, and the crepes de espinacas (spinach crepes). I tasted the crepes and they were superb! Not being made with pasta, they are not too heavy, but quite satisfying. At first, they may appear to be overwhelmed with cheese, but its the bechamel showing off. The sole was also delicious and the potatoes and spinach accompanying it were also quite tasty. The vegetable sandwich, I'm told, was quite good, except the warmed avocado in the sandwich wasn't a hit. The french fries here are divine! Other details: I'm not a fan of foamy soap in restrooms. I like lathering it up. I understand that's just my fussiness LOL. I LOVE the fact that they give you a spoon for the chimichurri. What an ingenious idea! So far, the only restaurant I've seen that does this. Reservations were "recommended" at lunchtime, even though we were the only customers at noon. (insert puzzled look) I think that's a Toluca Lake thing. Another restaurant nearby also asks for reservations. Price: At this place, one certainly gets a great value for the price. This spot is kinda whatever. I had the seafood soup here, and the mussels weren't fresh. By no means we're they rotten or spoiled, but they weren't good. I grew up eating fresh seafood and have killed, cleaned, and cooked it myself. Everything from clams to crabs, lobster to mussels, and all kinds of fish so I know what I'm talking about. When your soup is $15 a bowl, I'm going to need for you to do better. The service was also a meh. When I walked in (it was not busy, that I would understand) but there were several people behind the counter that looked at me, and kept cleaning or putting away wine (I couldn't tell what they were doing behind the bar), but they all saw me, and NONE of them came to offer me a table... for a party of uno...lol. Finally here comes one of the guys, shaking his head at them (while throwing them quite a fantastic stink eye) for not seating me immediately. After the meh soup, I had meh flan. I hate to give this place such a low rating because I am Argentinian & like to support my people, but I have to keep it 100. This is a bougie Argentinian restaurant for Gringos, not Latinos. First off, even after speaking to them in Spanish, none of the waiters or busboys would reply in Spanish! It felt like they were probably told to only speak English by management or something. Onto the food, the selection on the menu was not the best, and a lot of it was not really Argentinian food. We ordered empanadas as an appetizer. The order came with one corn & one lamb. They were actually pretty good, although I've never heard of a lamb empanada. As a main course I ordered the Salmon which came with Yukon Mashed Potatoes & Veggies. I was disappointed when I got my plate, because I could tell the mashed potatoes were not made with Yukon potatoes (there's a huge difference between these and Russet). The portion left me kind of hungry still too. The best part of my meal was the dessert. I ordered Panqueques con Dulce de Leche, which was amazing! Gnocchi style pasta was bland, like something from a box. Went for a birthday, ordered a flan, and they stuck a candle in it when served but charged us for the desert. The appetizers and wine were excellent, we just came by quickly for wine and appetizers and I really enjoyed it. I thought $75 bucks for just 2 glasses of wine and 2 appetizers was a bit pricey. My glass of wine was $17! So if you do come here make sure you ask before ordering. The waitress didn't clarify the prices of their specialty wines and though I did think it was fantastic I never would've spent $17 on it had I known. We got the Carpaccio which is just a dish you really can't go wrong with anywhere and also the Tuna Tartare which I feel the same. I really enjoyed them but again at $14 bucks each..... I've been to other more upper scale places that have been better and less expensive like Roy's and Morton's. The service is excellent- she did let us try out a couple of wines sips before deciding and ran through her favorites on the appetizer list and I did love her suggestions. It was just warm and I don't like my steaks this way. The grilled vegetables that came with my steak was excellent. It reminded me of the time I spent in Spain a couple of years ago. Dessert: Flan - pretty good and big enough to share with 1 or maybe 2 additional persons We know "Malbec" is a wine variety that is popular in Argentina and is the easiest on my sinuses. Came here for brunch on Easter Sunday. I have never had Argentinian food or have I ever been on an Argentinian restaurant. It is my first time here and my first time experiencing Argentinian cuisine. The place is pretty fancy. Maybe a good place to take your SO on a date night. This place must really look nice at night. They also have outdoor seating. Its not a big restaurant and I think they prefer that you make a reservation especially on Holidays like that. A lot of people were coming in while we were there. Ask for the soup of the day. That Easter Sunday it was Mushroom Soup and I didnt like it very much. I didnt say anything, but our server might've seen my face when I tasted it and she came right away and asked me about it and took my plate. They didnt charge me for it. I got the Braised skirt steak with 2eggs on top, as recommended by our server, and I wasnt disappointed! It was amazing! I went to the Malbec in Pasadena for my birthday two years ago, so when my former coworker suggested coming here for my birthday this year, I was intrigued. I wanted to see how the two Malbecs were similar and different. So I came here for lunch today with three of my former coworkers (we were also celebrating one of their birthdays in addition to mine). This location seems to be also street parking and valet only as well, although valet is just for dinner I think. I was able to nab a parking spot right in front of the restaurant which was nice. Street parking is for two hours, which was more than enough time for us. The venue is small but doesn't feel crowded and it's well lit and decorated. We were seated in a corner booth which gave us an ample amount of space. We got the complimentary bread with chimichurri sauce after we ordered our entrees. It was pretty good, but I feel like it was better in Pasadena. J.K. ordered two empanadas for her entree and enjoyed them. T.M. got the House Speciality Lenguado: flat grilled sole, lemon-capers sauce, mashed potato, sauteed spinach. She absolutely loved her dish and said everything was cooked PERFECTLY. High praise! L.L. and I both got the Napolitana, but I got chicken and she got steak: Breaded thin beef tenderloin steak or chicken breast, tomato sauce, proscuitto cotto, melted cheese, oregano, french fries provenzal. It was interesting, kind of like eating a pizza where the crust is chicken. It was good, although I don't think I would ever get it again. And the fries were delicious as they were with garlic and parsley; I absolutely adore garlic. We had been planning on ordering one of their delicious sounding desserts, but L.L. surprised us with cupcakes that she bought from a nearby bakery! She had given it to the restaurant when she first entered, sly one, and they were so nice and plated them beautifully with caramel and chocolate garnishes. I thought that was a really nice gesture on the restaurant's part. The only complaint that I have is that service was slow at times. I had finished all my water and had to flag someone down to get a refill. And when we were ready to pay, it took forever to get someone to take our check. So while I did see some other WB people in there, this definitely wouldn't be the place to go if you were limited to a 1-hour lunch break. Christmas Day 12/25/18 What an amazing restaurant to have a wonderful dinner. For there not being many options on Christmas day, this restaurant tops all the rest-even on a regular day. Everything from the food and service was amazing. My family had a delicious meal and an amazing time. Will definitely come again. Nice place to grab lunch or dinner. Empanadas: beef, ham'n'cheese, chicken... the beef was the best! Nice, buttery crust filled with meat. Entrana al Chimichurri - yummy! Meat was tender, nice presentation. Comes with chimichurri sauce and grilled veggies. Ojo de Bife al Ajo - Rib eye was delicious! Roasted garlic demi-glase, roasted potatoes, sauteed spinach... yummy. Nicely grilled and flavorful. Service - Nice waiter. Very attentive. Ambiance - Dimly lit. Nice place for a birthday dinner. I lived in Argentina for 3 years, so I was very excited when I found this restaurant. The almejas al ajillo were delicious, and the entraña al chimichurri was soooo good too! I def recommend it! We had the flan for dessert and I had a little Yerba mate. The service was great, everyone was super friendly. The lady that helped us was super attentive and really nice, her name is Flavia. Overall I was very satisfied with this place, the portion was great, the food, delicious, and I didn't feel super stuffed where I hate myself. Also, their chimichurri sauce is amaze balls!
