    Surprise, Chef's choice dinner
    Dennis M.

The experience begins the moment you step in. A warm greeting and a delicious aperitif. Our server was personable and genuinely interested in providing an exceptional experience. Our server recommended the surprise dining. We had 6 or 7 courses, all Chef's choice. What a fun way to share a meal together.

So they were a little rude to me and my friends when we walked in, maybe they thought we were too poor to afford it? I personally didn't think we looked like a trashy group, but we decided to eat here anyway. We went with he waitress's recommendation of the 10-course chef's special and we did not regret it. The courses were delicious, interesting, and well presented. The razor clams, mussels and jamón iberico were my personal favorites. Had a bottle of cava to go with it, and some of the house vermouth. We also got dessert, and the cheesecake was beyond incredible. The chocolate torte with orange sorbet was good, but not as incredible as the cheesecake. The decor is for foodies. Pictures of the chefs at different stages in their lives and careers. I loved the "love of food" atmosphere. Ex post facto, I was told this restaurant was owned by the same owner of Tickets. Tickets is a restaurant I was familiar with as an Anthony Bourdain visited establishment, that requires reservations most nights (unlike Bodega 1900).

I came here for lunch and had one of the best meals of my life! Our group opted for the chef's tasting menu and dined for over two hours, eating some of the best food and enjoying their house vermouth. Everything was absolutely amazing. Make sure to make reservations here when in Barcelona! You won't regret it.

Gonna mention what countless others mention at the start of their review. Could not get reservations at Tickets for 2 different dates. So we snagged a reservation at Bodega 1900. I'm sure Tickets is a once in a lifetime opportunity, but our dinner at Bodega was pretty fantastic in its own right. We were a little late to our seating, thanks to the Taxi driver who dropped us way off the mark. But thank goodness they honored our time slot. Service was welcoming from the moment we walked in, sat down and got down to dinner. We opted for the tapas surprise menu--about 12 courses or so. I definitely had my favorites, but there really wasn't a bad one in the bunch. All very fresh and well made. I really enjoyed our meal. The bursting "Olive", sardines, razor clams, pan con tomate, jamon, potato omelet, crab, squid sandwich, the most amazing goat cheese, grilled squid, grilled tenderloin and shishito peppers, cheesecake and lemon cake. It was paced well and I felt pretty full afterward. The suggested wine was spot on. I really liked the house vermouth, which surprised me because I'm more a vodka kind of gal. Homey and fun atmosphere. It was a full house and as soon as a table emptied, another party sat. I was seated with a view into the kitchen which gave me a peek into all the action. Our server was so sweet, I can't remember her name, but it was fun interacting with her.

So, to confess, I first booked this place as a back up since I wasn't able to get into Tickets. Then I was able to get the Tickets reservations and we decided to keep the reservations at Bodgea 1900 as well. In hindsight, I should have just cancelled this restaurant reservation since we came the day after we had dinner at Tickets. In my opinion, the experience was much better at Tickets and Bodega 1900 is a sister restaurant but the atmosphere and experience was just not the same. Since we were a party of 6, we had the tasting menu again and some of the items that we had at Tickets were also presented at Bodega - the deconstructed olive was one and the monkfish. We had Antonio as our server and he was very attentive.

After hearing so much about Tickets from Phill Rosenthal and Anthony Bourdain, I was lucky to snag a table for four at Ticket's sister restaurant, Bodega 1900 at their 1pm opening time slot. The place filled up quickly. It is a true tapas experience brought up many notches. Our waiter explained the menu and hence began our culinary adventure. The famous olive- you can't have just one- surreal Ham croquettes Boquerrone Sardines Mollettes of cheese and black truffle Baby squid Fresh tomato salad Dessert A Mille Fleur type pastry with Calvados-fabulous and they only allow one order per 2 people This is definitely a must visit, and if you can go again and again, you are truly blessed.

I booked Bodega 1900 for my husband's birthday exactly two months out. We arrived to Barcelona on the same day of the reservation, and we were exhausted after a long day of travel drama. So the fact that Bodega 1900 ended up being one of the best meals of our lives more than made up for our crazy day. I didn't feel confident enough that I would enjoy a tasting menu, so we opted to choose our own plates. We ordered: the olives, patatas bravas (a special), small grilled clams (coquinas), roasted red peppers with tuna, tomato salad, housemade feta, Iberican ham, cured beef tenderloin, and pickled quail thighs. On paper, none of these dishes really jump out but, in person, each and every one was so special. The small grilled clams were unlike anything I had tried before - they were the most tender little clams served in their shells and tossed in a slightly spicy butter. I was a bit dubious about my husband's choice of pickled quail thighs, but they were absolutely incredible. They were served in a hearty broth with veggies, and the taste was simply out of this world. We enjoyed our meal with a bottle of rosé, but the restaurant is known for their vermouth as well. We finished the meal with an inventive lemon cake and delicious flan. When I think about this meal and describe it to my friends and family, I get dreamy eyed. I look forward to returning one day when I visit Spain again!

We were so excited about Bodega 1900. We were deciding between a list of restaurants in Barcelona and Bodega 1900 with its stellar reviews and beautiful foods stood out. So we made reservations and eagerly awaited our visit. When we arrived, we were seated in the front next to a chef delicately slicing some iberico jamon. They brought us sparkling water, their fabulous vermouth, and a glass of cava. The drinks were great. Perusing the menu we got more excited - practically salivating with anticipation. When our waitress came back she insisted that since it was our first time, her strong recommendation would be for us to do a chefs menu and they would create a meal for us. Sure, sounds great! Let's go: "Olives" - perhaps we're jaded diners but yes, they're nice. Perhaps overdone because we've had this before. But yes, these olives are fine. Sardines in a bed of olive oil - nice light flavor. Coated in olive oil. Shrimp - nine (9) tiny boiled shrimp with a sprinkling of cracked salt. Would have been essentially flavorless without the salt. We were not fans of this. Razor clams - this was nice. A little sharp and acidic chew as you tossed it back. Cod with tomato paste and olive oil - no idea what the chef was thinking with this dish. The tomato paste had a subtle nice flavor but the cod was utterly flavorless and the whole dish was drenched in the olive oil. Not pleasant. Not tasty. I wanted to like it but did not like it at all. And it left a bad taste in our mouths. Baby octopus on a bed of tomato sauce - whereas the previous couple of dishes needed more seasoning, this was too salty. The first bite was a relief of seasoning. But the second bite was chewing an octopus salt lick. A tomatoey octopus salt lick with a bitter after taste. Quail - we did not agree on this one. I thought the flavors were decent, he thought it was all too vinegary. But I do like a little vinegar flavor. This reminded me of my parents chicken dinner they cook with beer or wine but not as tasty. The flavors here were similar but not as complex (my parents are not professional chefs...) and the quail was more than a tad dry. Tomato bread/tomato salad/cured beef - this was nice. The tomato bread was good. The tomatoes in the tomato salad were fresh, ripe, and juicy. And also covered in olive oil which it did not need. It could have been enhanced with just a touch of salt and pepper but still - nice tomatoes. And the cured beef, while not iberico ham, was surprising and tasty. It was leaner and had a smokey flavor. Lobster with bearnaise cream - why? It was not nice. It did not look nice and it did not taste nice. It was gross. Thank goodness it was just a tiny lobster. Did they just want to throw bearnaise on the menu? I don't understand. We didn't like it. We don't think anyone would like it. Dessert - throughout the meal we had a very smiley friendly waiter occasionally dropping off some of our plates. He recommended the "flan" for dessert so we got that. It was fantastic. Custardy and delicious. Then we asked for the check. We got the check 20 minutes later after we asked for it two more times. Our total for the tapas, two bottle of water, and three drinks came out to about 120 euros which is pretty darn reasonable for a nice meal but still sucks since the nice meal overall was not very nice. At the end of our meal our waitress asked how it was and we politely said it was nice (but it also feels rude to say it was terrible) and asked her what her favorites are. She then proceeded to tell us about her four or five favorites. It is notable to mention that we did not get any of her favorites. Our meal was all acid and olive oil. Her favorites did not seem to contain those items. We both went back to the hotel with upset tummies and our mouths coated still in the vaguely bitter and mineraly/metallic aftertaste of so much acid and olive oil. I got a little sick later that night vomiting back up the same tomatoes and olive oil. To say we were disappointed is an understatement. I would not come back. I would not recommend this. But if you do decide to come - get the vermouth; don't get the chefs selection.

With 3 nights in Barcelona we wanted to make sure we made the most of our food endeavors. After much research "Ticket" was on the top of the list . Unfortunately it's so popular secondary to owners and chef Ferran & Albert Adria's Michelin-Star that reservations have to be made way in advance for a weekend time slot. Luckily they are also the owners of Bodega 1900. The meal at Bodega 1900 was so phenomenal I can't imagine Ticket being that much better. Setting : A small appealing restaurant front leads into a homey basement type setting; the feel of sitting in your grandparents basement kitchen. There are views of the chefs and staff at work. Nothing is hidden. Staff: Our waitress was attentive enough and helpful with our options. Food: simplistic yet creatively crafted tapas perfected . Although I recommend everything, my top choices from our meal was the mussels and the prawns . A bonus is that they make in house Vermouth. Of course I had to try it although I'm more of a beer guy. I had two glasses . Lol that should say it all! The most disappointing thing was after experiencing other " highly rated "tapas restaurants we wished we had went to Bodega 1900 every night. Unfortunately they were closed the last night we we there If you don't stop here during your trip you're an idiot .

I wanted to try a restaurant of the Adria brothers and taste the food that they're known for. Barcelona wasn't a great place for tourists because locals are very rude to you, even the cops are just upright rude. However, this place was a nice little touch of customer service and good food. Waiters don't work for tips in Barcelona so we've been getting bad service everywhere around Barcelona. That wasn't the case here. Our waitress was very polite, catering and worked with us on what to order. We weren't sure what to order, so she did the chef's choice where she just kept bringing out tapas for us to enjoy. She was very knowledgeable of everything that was served and catered to our food allergies. I wanted to try the liquified olives and I'm so glad we did, we tried two different flavors too. Not sure how they did it, but it was just delicious. Barcelona is known for their vermouth so we had to try it here, where they make their own. It wasn't my cup of tea...err, cup of vermouth but it was still pretty good and I'm glad I tried it. Of course, there were iberico jamon on the plate for options so I was thrilled to have it at Bodega 1900 where they cure it themselves (hanging in the storefront of the restaurant). The foie gras itself tasted like it was made in their backyard, everything tasted so fresh! The best part is, my girls loved eating everything and our waitress even got their own portions, which was nice. They had fresh squeezed orange juice refilled for them and was a great part of our meal. They were just oogled over and treated like adults as far as customer service went. It was all great until we got the bill. It was the most expensive tapas I've ever had, over $200 (they charged in euros). I wished the waitress asked us what type of bill we're looking to pay, because that was pretty pricey. I paid it and even tipped a bit because the service was wonderful. However, I removed a star because of that issue with the bill. Everyone has a price range of what they're looking to pay, they should have asked that instead of adding to our bill like that. I'm glad i tried this place out because we were told that a lot of the foods are cooked at Tickets as well, without us needing the months in advanced reservations.

Last night in Barcelona. We couldn't get into Tickets but we were lucky enough to get into Bodega 1900. We walked in around 7ish and were told they can fit us in as long as we can finish up by 9:15. We were like oh that's plenty of time... ha! they haven't seen my man eat, he inhales his food. We went ahead and got the surprise menu. I won't write about each item, just check out the pictures, they are placed in order of how the food was served and know that everything was amazing. HREAT CHOICES. GOOD FOOD. EXCELLENT SERVICE. Hubby and I were so glad we got to try it out. It was a great experience. It's definitely a five star place. The service, the ambiance, the food were all amazing and worth it.

Oh yeah!!! We couldn't get into Tickets so we came here and it was fantastic. Get the house vermouth, it was so legit. We got the surprise meal, 12 courses of tapas that take you here, take you there, and all end up at delicious. I have never been moved by a meatball in my life until tonight. Lobster bisque in a lobster tail? Ok, lets do it!!! You will absolutely love it here. Great service, food, drink and classy. We were here for 2 hours eating and drinking the best around.

We were excited to finally dine at Bodega 1900 after waiting 2 months since making the reservation. Their vermouth is absolutely worth ordering. We decided to do the Chef's special. We started with Adria's famous liquid olives. He is able to amplify the taste of olives by creating a spherical shaped bubble filled with olive juice. You place the spoonful in your mouth and press it up against your palate. And bam...what you get is something "more olive than olive," as one food critic described. We thought the star dish was quail cooked in an amazing sauce with carrots and onions. That dish reminded me of turkey on thanksgiving without the dryness and heaviness associated with it. We weren't a big fan of the mushrooms. They were infused with lemon and some kind of fish sauce. The taste was very strange. Their meatballs and homemade feta cheese is worth getting. We finished with some kind of chocolate pie with sorbet. The chocolate was sprinkled with some sea salt, which it could have used more because it off set the bitterness of the chocolate. The apricot sorbet at the end was unforgetable. It was like biting into the 10 juicest, most flavorful apricots in one bite. We spent over 2 hours for this once in a lifetime experience. I wasn't sure if the Chef's special was worth it for 70 euros per person. You definitely leave the restaurant full after eating 12 dishes. But it seemed to be very heavy on the seafood side. I think we were better off choosing food, a la carte. The Chef's special did not include drinks or dessert. The reason we rated the restaurant 3 stars because of the poor service. The server forgot our bottled still and sparkling water two times. It took her a long time to get us the check. She appeared very overwhelmed. I didn't think they were staffed adequately. The next night, we dined at Tickets Bar, which had superior service than Bogeda 1900. Kev www.adreamersholiday.com

Our server, Amaya, was funny, knowledgeable, and incredibly attentive. He took great care of us, and every single recommendation he made was delicious. I wish I knew all the Spanish names of the dishes because everything was amazing. The highlights for us were the Bacalao -- so tender and full of flavor -- and honestly the best octopus I've ever had in my life. We also loved the soft steak with duck liver served on a slice of French baguette, the shrimp skewers, patatas, and the Spanish ham with tomato toasts. Every dish was unforgettable. On top of the incredible food, the restaurant itself has such an elegant atmosphere with beautiful décor that made the whole dining experience even more special. Highly recommend this place to anyone visiting Barcelona!

I came here for lunch, and thankfully I didn't have to wait too long before I got seated inside. The interior is a bit on the smaller side, but it's quite bright with a lot of natural sunlight inside. For the food, I decided to get squid, codfish with honey allioli, and iberian ham montaditos. While all of the food was great, for me the codfish was hands-down the star of the show and probably one of the best dishes that I ate on the trip. The flavor of the sauce combined with the texture of the fish actually blew me away, and I can see why my server highly recommended this to me. If you just get one things when coming here, definitely make sure not to miss this dish. Highly recommend checking this place out for Spanish tapas, they represent the cuisine well!
