I came to this location because I was told they had 3.5-inch piping--simple enough, right? I brought my own performance muffler and clearly explained what I wanted: cut off at the flapper valve, extend with 3.5-inch pipe, weld in my muffler with a turn-down, and use the existing hangers. The goal? A clean dumped exhaust just before the rear axle, well past the cab. Instead, I got a hack job: no pipe extension, the dump sitting directly under the cab, and the exhaust hangers welded straight to my subframe like that was a good idea. So not only did they ignore the plan, they made sure I definitely won't pass inspection now--because it doesn't even clear the cab. Impressive. read more

Bob's muffler was recommended by a garage we use and trust. We had a cracked pile leading into the muffler. I called and they took me right in. The guys are very nice, knowledgeable and very respectful. Good young men. They took the car right in and were done in 20 minutes! Very reasonably priced, fast, professional, quality work, great service! Kudos to this shop, they are doing a great job! Thanks! read more

Couldn't be happier with their service. I brought my Alfa Romeo into Bob's shop today after calling them to get my resonator welded back on. They got me in and started working right away, and all of their employees were incredibly professional. Very fair prices for the work they do. read more

Horrible Service, Incorrect Diagnosis, And Shady Scams To Increase Prices At Checkout Regarding Things Done During Repair That Were Not Discussed With The Customer. I Had My 2.5 Yr Old Catalytic Converter Replaced For No Reason And Did Not Even Know Until I Left The Premises As They Did Not Even Test Drive My Car After!***I Do Not Recommend Women, Esp. African American Women To Visit This Place, B.C Dj And His Wife Became Very Irate With Me Over $10 That I Did Not Even Owe To Them And Actually Called The Police On Me And Asked For Them To Put In A Trespass Request For Their Business To Consider Me Trespassing Should I Visit Again (Which I Obviously Had No Plans To - But This Was A Way To Attack Me Since I Refused To Pay Them What They Tried To Scam Me In Paying).*** Reason For Visit: I Was Hearing An Airy/Sandpaper Sound When I Accelerated. It Was Coming From Under My Hood But I Could Also Hear It Inside My Car. I Was Told By My Tire Company That It Sounded To Be In Pipes Or Exhaust Under My Hood. I Was Referred To Visit Bob's Muffler. Dj Seems To Be A Manager There As He Is The One Who Opens The Shop, He Was Also The One Who Performed The Work On My Car. His Wife Is The Receptionist. I Made An Appt With Her About 1.5 Weeks In Advance (They Said Their Calendar Was Booked Out That Far). Reviews Seemed Fair And They Are In The Local Area So I Figured I Would Visit Them Based On The Referral. I Visited On Yesterday, And Dj Rode With Me On A Test Drive And Immediately Told Me He Knew The Issue And That It Was That I Needed A Catalytic Converter Replacement. I Was Really Concerned That He Said That As I Had Just Had My Converter Replaced 2.5 Years Ago With A Brand New Converter. I Also Put My Car In Park And Reved It Up Where You Could Also Hear It And Dj Looked Under The Hood And He Even Said Again That Yes It Was The Converter (As I Had Doubts). So I Went Ahead And Took His Word And Asked How Much The Labor Would Be To Replace The Converter And Had The Warranty Part That I Had Purchased On My Own From The Local Auto Store Replaced Under The Warranty. I Assumed The Converter I Had Must Had Been Defective Somehow. I Asked How Much He Would Charge For Labor And He Told Me $250 Exactly If I Paid Him Cash (But If I Paid With Card, He Said He Would Need To Charge Me More For Tax). I Agreed That I Would Pay Cash Only If I Was Provided With A Receipt, And He Said Providing A Receipt Would Not Be A Problem. I Got The Replacement Part After I Left There And Even Took It Back To Dj The Same Day To Confirm He Had All He Needed And He Said That All Looked Perfect. So We Agreed I Would Return The Next Morning. So Its Now Next Morning - Which Is Today. I Come First Thing In The Morning And Sit For An Hour Prior To His Arrival Per His Request So My Car Would Be Cool When He Performed The Work. He Performs The Work, And I Noticed That His Wife Was Over Helping Him So I Glanced Over And She Came To Me And Said That There Was A Little Trouble With Him Removing 1 Or 2 Of The Bolts Off That Secured My Existing Converter During Removal And I Said "Oh Okay" And That Was Literally It. Now, About 3 Hours Later He Finishes My Car, No Test Drive, And Then She Tells Me To Go In Pay (I Was Seated Outside In My Chair). I Go In To Pay The Agreed Amount, Exactly As Agreed, And Dj Then Tells Me That Since He Had To Replace 2 Bolts From His Personal Hardware To Secure My New Converter On My Car From The Ones That Broke Off (He Said Due To Rust) When He Removed It That He Was Increasing The Price To $260. I Told Him I Only Had Cash And Had Exactly That Amount That We Agreed On Which Was $250 (I Do Not Carry Cash On Me And With The Pandemic I Only Had Exactly What We Agreed On And Was Not Willing To Fork Over More Money For Something Like That Especially When They Didn't Even Bother To Communicate With Me And Tell Me That The Price Would Change For Him Using His Own Bolt To Replace The One He Broke). Dj And His Wife's Demeanor Immediately Changed Towards Me And They Became Extremely Rude, Nasty, Irate, And Unprofessional. I Asked Him If The $10 Was That Big Of An Ordeal To Him And He Said Yes. I Then Asked Him Why No One Came And Told Me That Anything Was Changing To My Price Due To Him Choosing To Use Bolts/Screws From His Personal Stash As We Already Had An Agreed Upon Price And He Just Refused To Back Down On It And Said That If I Did Not Give Him His $10 That There Was Going To Be A Problem And That He Would Call The Police. I Told Him That Calling The Police Was Actually A Good Idea B.C They Should Know Of His Shady Business Practices And How He Treats His Customers. They Called The Police And Garner Police Came - First 2 Cars, Then 2 More. All Were White, Except 1 Hispanic. They Were Not Helpful But Actually Looked Out For The Business Interests More So Than Mine When It Was Clear That I Was Honest And Was Ready To Pay What Was Agreed Upon. Garner Pd Told Me That If I Left And Only Paid $250 Instead Of $260 Then The $10 Would Be A.... read more

Bob's Muffler Shop - Auto Repair Near Me - Raleigh, North Carolina

These guys are friendly, respectful, and have solid prices, but they can be a little careless when doing installs. I had a small leak that wasn't fixed for several months until someone else saw it and my exhaust pipe was reinstalled lower than normal after reinstalling a resonator. I also have received better muffler advice elsewhere, so consider all options. read more

I tried calling twice without getting through and started to worry if it was the wrong number. Luckily, I tried a third time and that was the charm. Really great experience here. I had backed into a sign that bent my exhaust pipe and caused it to rattle against the undercarriage. After going to the Meineke on South Saunders Street and getting a quote of over $500 to replace my entire exhaust pipe, I went to Bob's for a second opinion. He was very kind when it was clear that I was nervous and took me into the garage to show me the problem. He told me exactly how he was going to cut out the bent part and replace it. Originally told me $100, but rung me up for $80. Really fair and reasonable. And fixed the problem with great workmanship! A few other customers came through while I was waiting and they all seemed to have a similarly positive experience. These people are really down-to-earth and care about their customers. Highly recommend and will come back in the future. read more

Update: I had a Magnaflow muffler installed on my V8 4Runner. Sounds so much better. I did not delete the resonator to help avoid drone at highway speeds. read more

... Continued from my adventure from Universal Tires ... So, after Mr. Ray at Universal Tires floored the gas petal and the cloud of black smoke came out, he determined maybe I had a cat. convert issue. After I finished my business with Mr.Ray, he recommended I go to Bob's Muffler Shop. Mr. Ray (you really need to read my review on Universal Tires and Auto first) had a mechanic follow me over to Bob's Muffler Shop- a shop that came highly recommended by owner Ray of Universal Tires. I drove my car over to Bob's. On the way there, the problem seemed to have disappeared. Before it was stalling out, shuttering, and sputtering. After Mr.Ray blew this huge black smoke out the back, it seemed to have 'fixed' the issue. Bob's muffler , even though didn't see anything wrong, took an hour to go through the whole car. They took a blow torch, took the muffler off, brought me under the car, and explained what would make it a bad cat. My "honey combles" were in great shape. They went through the engine with me. Explained what would, could, and maybe happen with all the "IF" in place. I left in confidence with the answer they provided. Surprisingly, they did all this without charge. Most places would charge $60 for a diagnosis (I suspect- because I recently inquired at another place.) They are honest, reliable, and just fun people to be around. I learned a lot about my car- thanks to them! I did not need a cat. converter. Come to find out, I need a motor mount. The mounts are cutting off the fuel line (I believe) which is causing my car to stall out. Maybe my next post will be another AWESOME adventure I had .. we shall see! read more

I just had flow-master and duals replaced. Very very pleased with service, diagnose, suggestions and the price. Highly recommend as they are customer oriented and don't rush or push you when getting their suggestions. Compared to other "muffler shops" there is no comparison. And much more reasonable on the price as other shops were pushing extra and what else "needed to be done! Thanks read more

I had my exhaust system for my 2006 Dodge Ram 1500 replaced. I brought my own Flow Master exhaust system and they had it all done within the hour. Fast and efficient service with quality craftsmanship. I would definitely recommend this business to anyone in need of a muffler repair or replacement. read more

Allen is an excellent welder & pipe bender. He should be charging more for his service!!

I've repeatedly brought cars to the shop and every time I was given exceptional work at a reasonable price. I trust my cars only here as every other shop I've given a chance can't match Bobs work. Affordable compared to other shops. read more

Since moving from NJ five years ago it's been tough finding services for all things auto related (that I could trust). Bob's is a shining example of a shop that honors your appointment, your time, tells you exactly what the problem is and repairs it for a fair price. I'll be spreading the word to fellow staffers. Thank you Bob! read more

I have used Bobs Muffler multiple times and have never been disappointed. He installed a beautiful set of dual exhaust on my Dodge pick up truck and his price was very affordable. He replaced a clogged catalytic converter on a used Mercedes for me for a fraction of the cost of anywhere else. I used to be an ASE certified auto technician and worked at several local dealerships. I had a career change and No longer have access to a lift or a welder, so having a trustworthy, reputable exhaust shop is important to me....Bobs Muffler shop fills this gap beautifully. The facility is clean and orderly. They know how to fix your car and do it properly...if they cannot, they will be honest and recommend an alternative I have sent multiple friends and neighbors to Bob's and he has always taken care of them no matter what the problem. Everyone the that I have recommended there has been completely amazed with the quality of the work and the inexpensive price they have paid. You will never be taken advantage of here and that cannot be said for the vast majority of shops. read more

This is by far the best auto shop in Raleigh. They treat you with respect and don't waste your time or money (other places need to note of this concept!) Cant say enough good things. Very reasonable and honest shop to get a new muffler or simple catalytic converter installed over night for a reasonable price. They couldn't help us with our Escape because the #1 catalytic converter was a very intricate project that involved super mechanical skill that they didn't posses or want to invest with. We greatly appreciated the honesty and immediate response from them. We would highly recommend them for A-Typical muffler and catalytic converter replacement. read more

Bob's was recommended to me by my tire place. They were fast and friendly. I have no clue if the prices were average or what. I needed my exhaust repaired to pass inspection and whatever they did worked so that's all that mattered to me. We were in and out in 45 minutes. I wouldn't say that that is typical either, just saying that was my experience. I would recommend and go back if needed. read more

Best price and service ! I recently bought a VW 2003 GTI 20th Anniv Edition from LeithVW. 5 weeks later the engine light came on and needed a new catalytic converter. LeithVW cost was $1100, other local shops were at $700+ and took a couple of days. Bobs took my call, quoted $220, asked how soon I could be there, 30 minutes later getting a new catalytic converter installed and typing up this review on their free wifi in their lobby. I highly recommend Bobs Muffler. read more

I just want to put it out there that they dont operate 8am-5pm they run on more of a 8ish-5ish schedule. I stopped in at 430 to drop off some parts for welding and no one was there. I called at about 825 the next morning and no answer... Its tough because they are a physical service provider, its not like i can email them the details they send me what i need in return. You kind of have to rely on their hours being correct in order to get the service you need. read more
