Bob's Grill is playing politics with customers lives. We ordered carryout because when we arrived there were several patrons waiting outside. After paying I noticed the host was not wearing a mask and there were other workers and patrons also not wearing masks so I told my wife let's wait outside. That's when I saw a sign on the door stating something to the effect that despite the governor's mask order anyone not wearing a mask it is assumed they have an "Honorable Exception" to the order and something about HIPPA. There's no such thing as an "Honorable Exception." It's not Honorable to endanger the lives of your fellow Americans. If I contract the COVID-19 I'll know I got it from Bob's Grill because all the other establishments I've visited this week care for their clients and aren't playing politics. read more

You 100% need to try Bobs grille. We come to the OBX every single year and have a handful of restaurants that are always a must have. I discovered Bobs grille from a local I met several years ago, and since then we've added this restaurant into our rotation. We have never been disappointed! Service is amazing, the food is fantastic, and it has a nice chill vibe. I got the pecan waffle today and added chocolate chips and it was soooo goood. They have breakfast food and also a lunch menu. Our family just fell in love with Bob's. After trying to eat next door at Stack 'Em High but finding they had a 30-minute wait, we tried Bob's for breakfast and were very pleasantly surprised. Great atmosphere and top-notch service. All of the t-shirts and surfboards hanging from the ceiling gave it a fun look. The omelettes are huge and delicious, bacon perfectly crispy, biscuits fresh and flaky, and pancakes ENORMOUS! We loaded up on merch also. Then, we "got the hell out." LOL Went back for a second visit before our OBX vacation was over. In fact, we tried again to go to Stack 'Em High, but we saw that they were using disposable dishes and serving drinks only in bottles and cans. Love this place! It was my first time trying Bob's and so glad I did. Came in for breakfast and had an awesome pancake. Yes, you read that right, one pancake. The portions are huge and so glad the waitress explained this to me prior to placing my order. My waitress was very friendly and I would definitely come back. Super casual diner that will do the trick. I wasn't really wowed by anything here, but they have a solid list of breakfast choices. I can't speak for their lunch or dinner which might be even better. I had the crab omelette which came with a tonnnnnn of crab in it! I was pleasantly surprised with this, because I was expecting something stuffed with cheese with only a little bit of crab. Nope, down south you get your money's worth when ordering seafood! It lacked any other flavor though. It was pretty bland and the omelette was pretty thin, but huge. First off walking in the restaurant it was cute and got seated right away , but then is when the nightmare started! We sat there for about 15 mins before getting greeted and our server Claudine was Super Rude ! I order a waffle and wanted it soft along with my bacon ! She keep telling me that not how they did it ! That people in nc like they stuff overcooked . The waffle was bought to my table and it was completely overcooked ! She proceeded to tell me that she told me about it ! And telling me how wrong I was and had to deal with it ! I ask could I switch it out with pancake and told me that I would still have to pay for it ! And then started being even more rude and passive aggression ! She finally get to talking to the manger where I could see them talking about how I didn't want to pay for my food which was not the case ! The manager Summer came over and completely change my mood she was super sweet and talk to the cooks about just making it soft ! And when our original server came back over while we were talking to summer kept saying how she told me that they only made them completely overcook and how I was wrong while standing there telling the manger In Front of me ! She then say in front of us and the manger that I didn't want to talk to her and that I asked to switch server which was not the case ! She started to act like a child and walking by and saying unnecessary remarks and talking about us to the table behind us ! Probably the best tasting breakfast options in all of Obx. The prices are reasonable and the servings are good for what you pay for. Usually very crowded but they still somehow manage to seat quickly and get food in reasonable time as well. The wait staff has always been very kind and fun. If I could rate this restaurant lower than a 1, I would. This horrible rating is because of one waitress - Summer. When we arrived, the hostess was nice and accommodated our party. After sitting for 20 minutes we still didn't have an opportunity to give our drink orders. Instead we watched her continuously serve the tables around us, provide refills, and check on their dining experience. When she finally came to our table we asked could we also give our food order. She just walked off, but still continued to serve others around us. We eventually asked could she take our orders. Her response was extremely rude as she claimed they were "swamped." Crowded, yes! Swamped, No! Look at the photo. Adding insult to injury, she told the hostess to make sure we don't leave without paying and that we were the reason that she hasn't been able to work. Do I have to say it? RACIST! Even with Summer's horrible service, there was no reason to assume our table would not pay! I caution anyone whose is BIPOC on visiting this establishment. Understaffed and way too crowed. If you enjoy waiting 20 mins after you get seated, which will be on some strangers lap, to have anyone greet you then this is the place for you. I can say with confidence that our waiter forgot about our table. This is because the layout and set up is piss poor. This is what happens when you have a bad business model. Another swing and a miss on the OBX mini-vacation. The pancakes look good when you see them on the plate, but they are chewy, dense and relatively flavorless. I can make good pancakes at home. It's not difficult. The sausage was good, but this is absolutely a 1500 calories for breakfast and run back to the hotel to go to the bathroom type of establishment. It's crowded, loud and the staff seems to have trouble keeping up with the amount of people going in there on a Monday morning during tourist season. One thing this trip has made me realize is that as a person who no longer drinks on the beach all day cause sober, there's nothing to do in OBX other than blow money on sub-par food and lay around. We had intentions of going to Stack 'em high for breakfast because it had been our "go to" since we started coming to OBX but it was closed on Wednesday. So we ventured next door to Bob's Grill. Well let's just say Stack em High will no longer be our place. From the moment we walked in until we left the place we had smiles on our face. Our waitress Claudine was awesome. She was fun and sassy in a good way. The playful banter back and forth with us was awesome and added to our breakfast adventure. Now let's talk about the food. Bob's Grill was a neat place in OBX to have brunch. A group of 13 went and we were asked if we had to separate the party, would we be ok with that? We were...we were starving. But, alas, we did not have to separate. A large party got up and paid their checks shortly after we walked in. We all were given a menu to look at as soon as we sat down. I ordered a water and coffee with milk instead of creamer but the waitress said they'd have to charge me for the carton of milk. This is odd, as I don't have to pay anywhere else for milk in my coffee. But I decided to use cream instead, which I don't like. This is fine. I ordered Brent's special with prime rib, eggs, toast and hash browns. The prime rib was sliced very thin but flavored well. I think no matter how you order it, it'll be well done. It's just too thin to get any other preparation. The hash browns were homemade and delicious. I got it extra crispy and loved them. The food was good but the waitress kind of came off as rude at some points. I'm not sure if that's the purpose of the place but one conversation went as: Her - "Bret's special" holding the plate of food Me - (no response) Her - BRET'S SPECIAL Me - looks up to see its my plate "oh! I thought you were saying "Bret's special, not Brent sorry" Her - "No, I said BRENT" Someone else - "I heard Bret too...." Her - "I said BRENT." Sheesh, ok lady. There seemed to be some confusion on how to accommodate large parties. We asked to have two tables together and they declined. Crammed ten of us into 2 booths while another large party got two tables together. Lack of cohesive service with the host and waitresses.
