I ordered scrambled eggs, sausage links, and potatoes. Scrambled eggs should be soft curds of egg. Mine looked like a flat omelet that was runny in the center. The sausage links were over cooked and rubbery. Not a drop of juice left in them. The potatoes were pathetic. You couldn't tell the burnt potatoes from the burnt onions and they dumped about 2 cups of them on my plate. The sad part about this place is they promote HUGE portions. The pancakes cover the entire plate. Most of the people sitting near me ordered pancakes and none of them finished the pancakes. One young man managed to eat half of the order. So my point is, a lot of food appears to be wasted. Why not offer smaller portions for the normal eater and allow the big eater to Super Size their order. Surprised how nice it was! We arrived on a Wednesday late for breakfast, at 1130am, and were warmly greeted by Claudine, who introduced herself and told us she would explain everything we needed to know, going over the menu from front to back. Although we come to OBX yearly, we had never come here, kind of fearing the sign "Eat and get the hell out!" But Claudine made us feel super welcome and checked on us often! They serve breakfast AND lunch the whole time they are open, til 2pm. I was delighted to have the Bob's Special, only $7.99 for three eggs and FOUR bacon strips, and two HUGE hot cakes, the size of a dinner plate. The bacon must have been cooked on something allowing the fat to drain, because they were crispy but not burned, just right. Everything was wonderful, and they have Coke products. Our friends had country fried steak and said it was great. But we were not fans of the hash browns, a bit hard. I hear their fresh fried oysters on Friday are so good there are lines around the building. We were very happy with the reasonable prices and great service by Claudine. They want you to eat and get the hell out. But that's a problem. With their food, I never want to leave. Their pancakes are plate sized. I was upset the first time eating here. I didn't understand why you could only order one or two pancakes until I saw how big they were. One pancake is probably the same portion as a IHOP short stack. I tore through two pancakes, sausage, and eggs, but was left wanting more. The next time, I came better prepared to do some damage. I sat at the bar and while looking over the menu trying to figure out how to gorge myself on some breakfast food, I made a comment out loud I didn't realize was quite so loud. I don't remember what I said, but it was along the lines of "That's not gonna be enough." The waitress filling a juice cup heard me and came over. She said something like "Honey, you look hungry and I can tell you like a full plate." "Yes Ma'am, I'm a growing boy and need my fill, but I don't think anything here is gonna do it without ordering more than one entree." She said she had just the thing. It's called the Trashcan Omelette. It's not on the menu. You have to ask for it by name. It is a full platter sized omelette loaded to the max. That thing whipped my ass and sent me crying home. Service was terrible. More than ten minutes after seating before the waitress took a moment to say I'll be back in a few minutes. We ordered (three of us), an omelette, regular plate breakfast, and a plate with a French Toast side. The eggs were cold and the bacon was not close to how it was ordered. The waitress never stopped by to check on our food or our needs. She had to have seen the plate with 2 eggs and bacon untouched in the middle of the table but ignored it. She was buried in the weeds. The cashier went through the same old questions and could have cared less about the answers. I guess Bob's is kind of a legend for breakfast, and rightly so. Plentiiful servings and the food is pretty good. They were jammed up when I took my grandson this year, with a line out the door. This was about 1030 on a Friday. They do turn tables over quickly, though we never felt any pressure to "get the hell out." Waitresses are generally good natured and competent. Best hashbrowns, closer to homefries but that's how I like them. "Stuffed With Steak" omelette (steak peppers onions mushrooms cheddar) was out of this world. Great ambience, friendly staff and super quick service. This was hands down the worst dining experience I've ever had. The one positive is that the food is decent, but the server who waited on our table was working her hardest to make sure our table did not get serviced. The server's name was Summer. We noticed she was busy with a large party so we were waiting patiently for her to come to our table. We watched her bring out food and reservice this table multiple times before even taking our drink orders. After nearly 30 minutes she finally came to take our drink order. We asked if we could also put in our food orders and she told us she would be right back. We waited another 15-20 minutes and watched her reservice this table a couple other times before politely asking if she could take our orders before getting them refills again. She responded with attitude and clearly did not care that we had been patiently waiting nearly an hour just to put our orders in. She finally took our orders about 5 minutes later but a few members of our party decided not to order at that point. Being a black family, we tried to give her the benefit of the doubt that she was not being prejudiced towards us, even though we watched her promptly serve the white table right next to us, however after another member of our party who was not sitting with us overheard our server tell the cashier to "watch our table to make sure we didn't leave without paying" it was nearly impossible to deny the obvious racism we were already suspecting of. Safe to say we will not be returning here and if you are a family of color you'll likely be better off finding another place to eat. read more

My wife and I ate there twice in late September, mainly because we were staying close by, we were too hungry to go far and it was raining (That counts mostly because we were on motorcycles). Our first night on the OBX we ate there: a rack of ribs for me and lump crab meat baked in butter for my wife. Both were superb. The ribs were so plentiful I had to take half with me and made a meal of them two nights later. Bob's BBQ sauce is a mildly sweet and pleasantly spicy blend, so I asked for extra to take with me. My wife would have liked rice with her crab but it's not on the menu--a definite miss for an otherwise perfect meal. Our second meal was a rainy day lunch: a Philly Cheese Steak sandwich for me and Grilled Steak Ceasar Salad for my wife. The cheese steak was one of the best I've had in a long time, grilled onions mingling with melted cheese and juices from the steak. The accompanying fries had been dipped in a light batter and were done to perfection. My wife hates overdone beef and Bob's steak was perfectly medium rare for her salad. We will be back for more on our next trip. Not gourmet but perfect for the beach. Good service too. read more

We are told that there are only 5 staff in the whole place, 2 are cooks and they are working as fast as they can. I hate giving Bob's 1 star but something has happened here. We stop here on the way out of OBX every year for breakfast. It has always been packed and busy and lively, waitresses running around, lines at the register, lines at the bathroom, but not this year. There was no wait, only 3 other tables occupied, and the staff looked like they could have cared less to be there. So we get seated and waited, awhile, before the waitress comes over. She had quite the snarky attitude, like her words were hospitable but her tone was really full of attitude. She takes our drink order, food order, and goes to get our drinks. It takes a little while to bring the drinks but I didn't think anything of it at the time. Another table was seated beside us, a group of 6, and they waited awhile before the waitress came to them too. That's when I started paying attention. I noticed food in the window but no one was in a hurry to get it to the table. It wasn't ours though. I thought for sure it was since we had been there at least 20 minutes at this point. Now another table had been seated behind us, the table beside us still didn't have their drinks, and we still had no food. I notice our waitress (who was supposed to be getting drinks for the table beside us) drinking her beverage, BSing with another waitress, and after a few minutes of this she got drinks for a table, took the other table's order, and finally brought our food to us. All except mine. Said she'd be right back with mine but there was nothing in the window. I see her talk to the cook, show her a ticket, cook pulled a ticket from the spike and looked at it, and started cooking. Yep, didn't cook my food. The waitress came back after my food was done and said there were technical difficulties in the kitchen. We didn't even get drink refills. And still, none of the wait staff were hustling, no one had any sense of urgency, but at this point there were several tables that were occupied. The food, well that was delicious except for the pancakes. They had NO flavor at all, not even with a ton of syrup. Everything else was delicious. Between all of us we had sausage links, eggs, sausage and gravy biscuits, country ham, toast, bacon, grits, pancakes. I don't know if I'm willing to give them another try. We pay a lot of money to eat there and for slow, don't care service it's not worth it. That said, some friends visited Bob's for breakfast and recommended it. I had no idea it was the same restaurant that had the stupid slogan until we arrived. My husband and I decided to try it anyway, and we were pleasantly surprised. For starters it was clean, and we were greeted by friendly staff. There's not much going on decor-wise, but the ceiling tiles were literally each individually covered with logo tees from various businesses, which were colorful and interesting to look at. Our waitress, 'Shorty', was so nice and very efficient. We ordered our food and it came out quickly. My husband ordered the seafood omelet, my eldest son and I had the western omelet, my middle son had chocolate chip pancakes and bacon, and our youngest had a ham, bacon, and cheese omelet. Those of us who had omelets had the hash browns. Everything was DELICIOUS. The hash browns were more like old fashioned fried potatoes with onions, and the omelets were huge and tasty. The pancakes were the size of dinner plates. The bacon was perfectly done- not too crisp, yet not limp. Shorty was an excellent server, and when she brought our check, she said, 'Now, get the heck out.' (Since profanity isn't used in our home, I appreciated it.) This is our first time here. We looked up as we walked in and saw that they were best breakfast on the beach in 2013, 2014, 2015 and we asked them what happened in 2016 and 2017. They said that they didn't compete in 2016 and they haven't gotten the banner for 2017 yet. I can understand why. This place is amazing. The portions are huge and the quality of the food is just scrumptious. I had the Bob's Special and my wife had the Scrapple & Eggs. The Special Included pancakes that were the size of the plate. The scrapple Had to of been a third of a pound. All of it well prepared and served by individuals who were actually happy to be here. I am so sad we waited till our last day in Obx to eat here. I'm kinda sad I'm gonna be 10 hours away from this place! First things first, our waitress was amazing. Attentive but not bothersome, my favorite. Other staff was super polite as well. They have that menu where everything looks so good it's hard to choose. If that's the only problem I have when I go to a joint, I'll survive. I went on a limb and got the shrimp and grits (because honestly I'm not the biggest fan of grits).
