I'm only giving a one because the food wasn't horrible! Our waitress was completely incompetent, first she brings my omelet and tells me they are calling toast biscuits? Tried to give a bowl of gravy for my non-biscuit , EXCEPT for the fact she never brought me toast, then she served my grits with a fork, asked for a spoon , 15 minutes later she pulls the spoon out of her dirty apron,. Then she brought my friend the wrong pancakes, my sisters Greek Omelet was raw in the middle! Never refilled one drink, had to flag another busier waitress! My husband ordered water that was iced tea, when told the omelet was not cooked and reminded I never got my biscuit or toast she said the biscuits were frozen, then said " nobody brought you toast( ugh aren't you are waitress?) however as she was saying that a tray with multiple biscuits and every table around us had hot biscuits being served. When she told us to get the hell out , I held my tongue but what I really wanted say maybe you should get the hell out of here!!! read more

Wow. Busy day but we sat outside under tent for over an hour before food got here. Frustrating. Food was fine. I mean we're talking breakfast so how hard is it to make it good. Service was far and above the best we've had on this vacation. Our server Claudine was friendly, helpful, and even asked if I wanted a Diet Coke "to go" after we had finished our meal. This is a great place for breakfast, whether you want a bagel and tea or a full breakfast of eggs, bacon, hash browns, and toast. We ate there every morning we were in town. If you eat one of their breakfasts, you may not need lunch! The pancakes are the size of a large frisbee, so you can order as few or as many as you like. The waffles are big and fluffy, but not as filling as the pancakes. The omelets are fantastic with various different combinations. The hash browns are good, though they could be cooked a little more - and there are plenty of them. Eggs are always cooked to order - except poached, they don't do them. Wait staff is wonderful. They are fast and the food comes hot. The slogan is "Eat and get the hell out," so they have to be fast. Most are wonderfully friendly, but we thought that one of the waitresses would be more suited as a DI at Parris Island. LOL This is a definite return to place. read more

We have eaten here twice in the last two weeks, once for breakfast and once for lunch. Both times the food was good and servings generous, the service fast and friendly. For breakfast, my husband had a Western omelet that was wonderful ...and huge! It came with hash browns and toast. My blueberry pancakes were the biggest pancakes I'd ever seen and loaded with blueberries. I could only eat a third of them, but took the rest home for breakfast the next day. On the day we had lunch, they were serving fresh clam strips, just caught on the OBX. Super good and served with a huge side of fries and cole slaw. Again, service was quick and friendly. For a restaurant with the slogan being "eat and get the hell out", we did anything but that. We got seated in a timely manner and the hostess was very polite. Our waitress, Claudine, took 20 minutes to even get our drinks. She told us that she has to get two tables drinks before ours and she would be over when she can. A table sat next to us after we got seated and proceeded to order drinks and food with their waitress before our waitress came to take our drinks, they got their food as we got our drinks and were done eating before we got our food. I get some waitresses having to manage other tables including having a bigger party at the same time, but this was ridiculous. The rest of our experience continues to get worse and worse. I have never been told to eat something that I didn't order. I ordered a chocolate chip pancake and was given a regular one, it's not that I don't like the regular ones but it's not what i ordered. I politely said that I asked for chocolate chip and she said she put it in as a regular one. Instead of taking it back and getting a new one made, she said oh i'm sorry well can you just eat the plain one? I was kind of in shock and said uh I guess so. Seeing that I was still not happy she said well maybe I can see if I can bring you some chocolate chips out in a bowl. She brings me out freezing cold chocolate chips that I can't do anything with. Looking at the bill after the fact, I was charge $2 for a bowl of chocolate chips, when the difference in the two pancakes (plain and regular) weren't even a dollar difference on the menu. At the end of the service when it was time to pay, she told us the total and we said that we were on two separate checks. She responded that she has one check and someone needs to pay for the whole thing and that person can get venmoed from the other party. She then made a comment to me asking if the drink I had ordered made me happy, I ordered a manmosa which was the only good part of my experience but this comment rubbed me the wrong way. I've been to OBX numerous times; however, I've never been out for breakfast. Luckily this time I came with a friend that is a breakfast person. I took her to Bob's because I was always attracted to the signage "Eat and get the hell out". There was a lot of folks waiting; however, we were seated in less than 15 mins. Our waitress (Kim) was FANTASTIC! I had the crab cake benedict and it was DELICIOUS!!!! Place is always packed every year we go here so be prepared to wait 30 mins to hour most of the time especially weekends. The place is eclectic with lots to look at. Biggest pancakes I've ever seen! I like eating breakfast here. You'll never wait more than five minutes to get seated during high season and service is always outstanding. They have anything you could imagine on their breakfast menu! I've also had lunch here and the Greek salad is authentic and huge. It's enough to share for sure. Eat and get the hell out! It was a bit of a wait, but being Labor Day weekend it was no surprise. Once we were seated we were served relatively quickly. It took a bit of time for the food to come out, but it was delicious. The pancakes are as big as your head. Everything was tasty and we had no issues with the food. The Bob's special came with two enormous pancakes, and one of my party could not finish hers. I got the yellow fin tuna sandwich. Not the best yellowfin I've ever had, but it was pretty tasty. The fries were delicious. read more

In my book, a restaurant that has a gigantic banner that can be seen from space that says, EAT AND GET THE HELL OUT, is a place that must be experienced. Classic diner menu, serves breakfast all day, great prices, appropriately kitschy staff attitude - - all the components for a fun, if not fancy, meal. My husband and I had breakfast there on the way home from the beach, and I am dying to go back for lunch and a dinner sometime, too. Our kids are going to love this place! As I said it's pretty basic diner food, but diner food done pretty well so unlike places trying to be something they are not and failing, Bob's is Bob's is Bob's and it's doing great at that. I'm not sure why this place has such a good rating. The only reason I'm giving it two stars is that we were seated fast and the owner took $4 off of our bill when we received a raw pork chop. We went for breakfast, which was regular diner fare. I got a blueberry pancake, which was very large and, well, pancake! I also got a side of bacon, which I'm pretty sure was cooked in the microwave. All of my food was cold, all of it. My husband got pork and eggs. As previously stated, the pork was completely raw. He said that his egg and hashbrowns were good, I didn't have any so I can't really comment on that. I can say that they are very busy and our waitress didn't come back around until we were done eating, so a cooked pork chop was never an option. The owner then removed $4 from out bill for the pork chop, which was a nice after thought. It may have been a bad day for our waitress. We were seated quickly and had yummy hush puppies sprinkled with powered sugar, hot and scrumptious. Then she forgot our drinks, the owner came by and shut the blinds to get the sun out of our faces and told us about the fresh tuna he had, which we ordered. We ordered the combo with 2 items and 2 sides. I had my tuna blackened on the waitresses recommendation, it was okay but if you love blackened fish you might like it better than I did, and steamed shrimp which were good. My sides were cheese grits and cole slaw both were pretty bad. My husband had the tuna grilled and thought it pretty tasteless and fried shrimp, his sides were a salad and garlic mashed potatoes both very good. We had a hard time getting tarter sauce, cocktail sauce (hot & homemade, a little too much horseradish for me), lemon (never did get the lemon), drink refills and additional hush puppies that were offered (never got these either). Then ordered a mocha coffee drink that came vanilla instead of mocha (just had that removed from the bill). Both of us ordered shrimp that appeared about the same size, I got 14 steamed and my husband got 4 fried, that just seemed weird. On a good day this place might be great, we ordered the wrong things I think and our waitress was a little ditsy. But we liked the atmosphere. read more

Definitely a good spot in OBX for regulars and tourists alike. Breakfast all day, sangria, and waitresses with "diner attitude"? I like this spot. Servings were huge, prices were very reasonable, service was very quick, even while busy. Daily specials all looked tasty. Even though their slogan is "eat and get the hell out," we never felt rushed or hurried to do so. Our group of four enjoyed our pitcher of sangria (admittedly not "authentic," but boozy and tasty nonetheless) and I really liked my omelette, crispy bacon, and biscuit. After reading all the reviews we were excited about stopping by as we headed out of town. We did try the Garbage Omelet which is supposed to be their go to seller for visitors. This was so full of sausage you could not taste the other ingredients. I ended up sending it back and doing their hash browns which were tasty. "Eat and Get the Hell Out" is what the sign says. Our party of 8 was handled perfectly: biscuits and coffee before you get the chance to order them, and ten minutes later everybody has hot, splattery breakfast. This is a place that understands the delicate balance of speed, comfort, banter and jet fuel (= starch + caffeine + fat + salt + karo) that make breakfast so important. If you hesitate over your order at a morning meal you fuck up your whole day: the waitress will look at you with sad eyes but won't miss a beat and tell you what you're having. Sample of conversation at order-time: Dave: "So, what's 'scrapple'?" Waitress: "It's what's left over after they make the sausage." Dave: "Not. Good. Enough. For sausage?" Waitress: "Yep." She doesn't apologize when the coffee comes in faux-ceramic plastic mugs (the Aladdin Thermos-y flavor complements 'French Roast', on pallet discount at the Wilmington Office Depot). It's just bad enough to make you pleased to see metal forks with the table service. You won't need to look up while you're eating, but in the 30 seconds it takes you to notice the check is already on the table, you'll see other customers craning their necks to read the t-shirts that decorate the ceiling. The fire marshall is apparently the only local at the Stack 'Em High next door. As we leave, a strange man approaches and says something in a down east accent that I don't understand. I mistake him for a Tourette's-afflicted diner and mumble something back to him. He smiles as if he had ordered the pecan pie for breakfast, and with a gesture that suggests we stayed too long, bowls through his assembled wait staff and back through the kitchen door. read more

I would love to leave a food rating, but unfortunately after driving from Manteo, we discovered they are closed Monday thru Wednesday. Today is Tuesday. I checked their website and Facebook before leaving to verify hours and nothing was posted anywhere of these winter hours. A little advice, lots of people will return if you advertise correct hours at least on your Facebook page. This divey little joint closes at 2 so make sure you get there in plenty of time. I had the po'boy, shrimp and oyster split (ask the server, they can't do it when they are busy). It was really good, loaded with fresh fish and way too big to hand hold unless you plan to wear some of it home. The husband had the rock-fish, fried and served fish and chips style, it was tasty as well. Bob also slings a mean sangria. Bob's team was incredibly friendly and fun. The BLT was pretty run of the mill, but I didn't expect anything different. Their hash browns, though! SO GOOD. Definitely get those if you find your way to Bob's.
