My wife and I hit this place while we were out traveling. It is a cool 60's retro style diner that has its own unique flair to it. Bob's Diner's slogan is "An American Experience" and I would agree. When we got out of the van you could hear the pleasant and groovy music softly playing from the speaker attached to the outside of the building. The music was much more apparent from the outside than the inside but very cool all the same. The menu here has got a lot of different things going on. Breakfast and lunch with all the basics but then they have this designer hot dog and burger menu that looked very interesting and featured "Chubby Dogs". They hit these chubby dogs with some different meats and wild condiments. As an example, they do a South Of The Border Dog with salsa, cheddar cheese, lettuce, and sour cream that they wrap in a tortilla.. They do a "Deli Dog" topped with hard boiled egg, relish, and mild banana peppers. There is a whole separate menu that is dedicated to these designer hot dogs and hamburgers that they serve. Our taste buds were not feeling like dogs or burgers that day so we went with the two specials of the day. The lady of the house went for the open face reuben sandwich which was very good. I hit them up for the chicken parm with pasta special. It was huge and delicious! It was so big that I took half of it home and had it for dinner. We enjoyed the experience so much that I could not get out of there without taking home two of the Bob's Diner coffee mugs. I went here for breakfast and I was very disappointed. The pancakes I got were super burnt they were black and tasted disgusting. We had to ask them to take the pancakes off the bill, and they did, which I appreciate. The home fries were almost as crispy as potato chips and they came out cold. I did, however, enjoy the atmosphere but I would not go again. read more

Well this place was so good! Looking for something a little better than highway fare, we ventured as far as the little hamlet of Bainbridge and fkund this place with the help of Yelpers. :-) I had a big, tasty turkey melt on texas toast and delicious light, crispy fries. My companion had fried chicken and it was a half a chicken, four good-sized pieces, and perfectly cooked. That came with a big dollop of creamy mashed potatoes and gravy. The only minor complaint was the cole slaw, which had too much mayo so that's all you could taste...no crunch, no tang... We could not resist the appeal of the well-stocked dessert display, so we finished our meal with delicious pie. Thatwas the best thing we did all day. :-) Diner atmosphere is pretty cute. We decided to stop at this diner on a road trip. We were a little scared when we were the only people in the restaurant, but we were greeted with exceptional service. We ordered the blueberry pancakes, two burgers, and a patty melt. All of the food was incredible and prepared very quickly. We ordered a coffee to go at the end of the meal, which was also great. Was hoping for something so much better based on the reviews. The first trip there was okay; greasy and didn't settle well but thought it was me. Went back there recently, and had the veal parm. The veal was so chewy, I couldn't swallow it. Seriously the consistency of a tire. When I let the waitress know, she just shrugged at me. I just started travelling through the area and in honor of my father's love for diners thought I'd give this place a shot after driving past it for a few weeks... I should have kept driving. I paid way too much for a bland reuben and some fries. The locals looked at me like I was interrupting something, and the fact it was cash only was odd. I got one cup of water, and that was it. Waitress only came back with the check. It wasn't busy, it was 3pm on a Thursday. I know to continue on to Afton from now on, and grab some amazing food from the Main street Bakery. Everything you could ask for in a diner and more! This place offers fast and friendly service, an awesome vintage atmosphere, reasonable prices, and delicious food! I had one of their specialty "chubby dogs," which are impressively sized hotdogs done up in all kinds of interesting ways! Mine was the hog-tied dog, with bacon, cheddar, onions and BBQ sauce; it was so good! Their fries are very good too. They offer real maple syrup with breakfast entrees for just 99¢, which I love. A throwback diner set in Bainbridge town center, a mile or two off the highway. It's a nice stop for lunch if you aren't in a rush and want to solicit an independent and local restaurant. Menu focuses on breakfast foods, hot dogs, burgers, and sandwiches. We had two sandwiches: the turkey club and a Rueben on rye. Both were tasty and well portioned. Living in the area, my kids love coming to Bob's, mostly because they can get the huge pancakes any time. We always have great, friendly, and timely service. The food is always good along with the prices. Sieving sizes are plentiful. I always intend on getting dessert , but am usually too full from my meal to get it. They have a nice breakfast buffet on Sunday mornings also. Just make sure you have cash or a local check because they do not accept debit or credit cards. There is an ATM on site. read more

I have lunch at least once a week at Bob's Diner. It is a tradition in the town, but on top of that they always serve quality down home food. Really excellent soups, great burgers and their homemade deli salads are wonderful. That said, they also have the best breakfasts within 50 miles. Highly recommended! read more

Stayed in the area at Tall Pines campground and found Bob's on Yelp. Cute diner, retro style and good music. I had the Virginia ham meal and my husband had their Salisbury steak plate. Not many original diners around anymore. This one is GREAT! It's in a small town and you get small town good ol hospitality. The food is outstanding!!! The food is cheap so leave a good tip. My father and I stopped there on our way home from Florida on our way North. We were tired and hungry. We saw a sign on the highway Bob's Diner and said WTH let's give it a shot. I talked to my Uncle who lives about 40 miles from there about it and he had been there several times. He also said it was wonderful. He left a hat there once and when he went back the next time they still had it there waiting for him. I use to like to go every time I RETURNED home. but now I will never return to Bobs Dinner again. poor service. The waitress seem to be more into talking then there guess. Never came to the table to check one us all. took 15 minutes to come over to just bring us our menu. witch was out dated and dirty. I ordered a house salad i never got it yet it was on the bill. The whole place is dirty and run down. The food how ever was not bad for the price. But the thing that pushed me was the fact that they did not take credit card but for some reason they had an ATM. oh maybe because they make more money on the ATM fees. Four great friends of mine and I got lost driving south after hiking in the Adirondack mountains. We were still cold and wet from the rain earlier in the day we experienced while out on the trail. Only the lord, workers, and patrons of this diner know just how bad we must have smelled. We walked in starved and sat down at the table just outside the bathroom. The staff served us all the food we could have possibly asked for, pancakes, bacon, sausage, toast, eggs, you name it. If it was on the menu, it quickly found its way sitting steaming hot in front of us. I don't know if we were just so used to poor tasting trail food, but the buttery pancakes and coffee we were served, rival that of my grandmother. In addition to the succulent meal, one of my friends had decided to continue carrying out an inside joke of ours in the diner that we had developed on the trail. He spoke in an outrageously obnoxious but yet hilarious accent and would at times act like a child. Mind you, we are all college students and know very well how to behave appropriately in public and often times do so. The waitress was patient enough to keep her cool whilst serving us. Plus the other patrons in the store were kind enough to restrain themselves from kicking us out of the diner. A special "Thank you" to the two gentlemen who sat not far from us in a booth for not losing their temper, I'm not sure I would have of been able to express the same level of tolerance. Looking back, we most certainly did not act like the best people in the world. We can only hope that we each gave an appropriately sized tip for what we made the waitress put up with. This place will hold a special place in my heart because of the memories my friends and I forged there. A 5-star rating isn't enough of a "Thank you" for the people of Bob's Diner to permit us to do so; but at the moment, it's the best we can do. Worst experience ever. One it was a bit confusing where to enter the restaurant, since parking is in the back. We ordered some applesauce for our two toddlers, and when I tasted one before we gave it to them we realized it was spoiled! Then when we asked for something else it took forever...for one side of fries! All of my food was cold and it took forever for it to come out. My mother ordered the vegetable mix, which when it came out was no doubt from a can of veg-all. The prices were cheap, but you get what you pay for I guess. It has an old diner look inside which is neat, and it seemed like a local joint, but I guess if you aren't local you don't get the same service. You couldn't pay me to go back here. read more

I love going to diners. They are a staple in American culture. Its where the locals in the town go to for their good, inexpensive eats. This diner though is one I was I would have avoided, I don't know how the locals can do it. My friend, her son and I went to this place recently while going through Bainbridge and when we drove by thought "Hey! That place looks cool! Lets go there!" We went around too a few other local stores and made our way back. Upon entering we realized that they only accepted cash. I'm not gonna hit too hard for that, it's a minor inconvenience but not terrible. The thing that really hits me though were the outrageous prices. I'm not really sure what I was paying for. Not like they had to charge more because they had to charge processing fews for credit/debit. Maybe it was because of all of the vintage looking (and I mean looking, not real) decor that was upon the walls. It certainly can't be going to the wait staff as it took forever to be acknowledged and at the end of our meal it took 10 minutes for the waitress to come back, get us a box and our check. Now if this were a busy Friday lunch rush then I don't mind waiting. I work in the service industry and I know when you are swamped with customers you have to do the best you can. This was a cold, dreary Tuesday at noon with 5 customers in the diner. In the end My friend had one of the specialty burger, I had just a plain burger (where I had to pay extra for cheese) and her son just had eggs and toast. This meal ended up costing just under $42. I just cannot fathom this places overhead and food costs where they have to charge $42 for a meal like that. It wasn't that the food was bad. It was okay, mediocre small town diner food. I honestly would have rather gone to mediocre Friendly's and got the same level service at a much lower cost. Not sure what the other reviews were talking about. We were driving on I88 and needed a place to eat. Looked on Yelp, read the raving reviews and decided to stop. The food was sub par. I ordered a salad and spent most of the time I was eating it, picking out the slimy, old pieces of lettuce. My husband had the soup that was way too salty. We both had the overpriced burger with sautéed mushrooms. The mushrooms were from a can and the burger was heaped with fries, breaded, fried onions and homemade potato chips, probably not the best choice. The specials were heavy on grease and gravy. Diner food but unhealthy, mediocre quality food. Definitely not worth getting of the highway for. We discovered they don't take credit cards when we were paying. They have a shady ATM in their entryway but we opted to use the bank ATM down the street. At least they had a newspaper for me to read while my husband went to get money. read more
