As a commercial pilot who owns and flies an aircraft based at Palomar Airport, I am very particular about who performs maintenance on my vehicles. After getting price-gouged by the dealership for years, I started taking my 2005 Dodge Durango to Dennis at Carlsbad Automotive Technology. Dennis is the most knowledgeable (and honest) auto mechanic I have ever known so when he joined Bob's Carbs I naturally followed him. Together, Mitch and Dennis make a professional team providing excellent communication, outstanding service, and fair pricing. Thanks to Bob's Carb's my Dodge Durango runs just as well as when it rolled off the showroom floor. I am also very proactive and always have Mitch and Dennis perform all repairs, no matter how minor, so there is never any "deferred maintenance" on my vehicle. I have learned the value of this approach in aviation, but it also applies to automobiles. Unfortunately, many people do not attend to the maintenance needs of their vehicles and then they expect mechanics to perform miracles at bargain-basement prices. Some people neglect their vehicles for years and then expect a mechanic to correct all the problems, some of which may not be readily apparent. Without routine maintenance, inspections, and preventative maintenance, it will not possible for any mechanic to keep a vehicle in a serviceable condition. read more

It started w/my '69 Mustang Fastback...came in needing adjustments to a newly installed carb...drove off with a big smile on my face. Then the transmission failed on my '93 Chevy Silverado with 342,000 miles. So I bite the bullet and replaced both engine and tranny...Oh my gosh, my girl is rolling strong again. Mitch was almost as excited as I was. Dennis put it all back together like new. Very professional job. To replace this truck would have way out of my price range... Again, huge smile on my face as I drove off and evertime I pop the hood. read more

No integrity. Stay away. I took my 73 Bronco there to have the brand new Holley Carburetor adjusted for a hesitation. They told me it was bad and that I needed a new one. They put the new Autozone carb on there, and then told me I needed a new engine as it had low oil pressure. Due to their good Yelp reviews and length in business, I trusted them and paid them a hefty sum for new engine. When they put the new engine in, they said I needed a new radiator (things should have started to add up for me). The heavy-duty radiator from Tom's Bronco has been put in less than 100 miles before I brought it in. For some reason Mitch justified it to me so spent the money. Again should have added this up. I get the Bronco back and there were immediately 2 problems I had to fix. 1) they broke the connection on one of the sparkplug wires so it was running rough (why didn't they notice this before delivering it to me), I triaged it and put on new cables and all is good. 2) They made the throttle cable brace out of flimsy metal, and it bent backwards every time you stepped on the gas and got caught in the spring. (not safe). So I made a new brace. Then after 400 or 500 miles of driving I was continuing to have weird issues with temperature. I called and they said they were too busy to take it any sooner than 3 weeks, but I could take it to another reputable mechanic and the engine was under warranty. I took it to a longstanding garage in San Marcos to triage the temperature issues. They flushed the engine with 100 gallons of water as there was so much casting sand still in the Jasper engine, and then found a hose cap stuck in one of the hoses from the bottom of the radiator. They removed it, and the bronco runs better than it ever has. I called Mitch to see if Bob's carbs or Jasper would pay for the $1400 I had to incur to triage my "brand new radiator and engine". He said he would open a claim about the sand, its been several months and I have heard nothing. And he said "he didn't buy" the cap stuck in the hose. Convenient, since no one touched the radiator and engine since he put it in. I asked him if the obstruction could have caused the issue of why he put a new radiator (when I already put one in). He conveniently couldn't remember. I have a lot more work I want done on the bronco. Not here. read more

I was referred to Bob's carbs a while back when I had a carburetor issue on my 1969 Mercury Montego, Mitch the general manager of the shop was extremely helpful and informative when it came to picking out a new carburetor and why I should swap from a 2 barrel to a 4 barrel. After further discussion I was informed the shop was able work on modern cars as well. Since then they've been servicing my family's cars and have had nothing but positive experiences. The shop has honored warranties on their work which has come in handy. read more

This guy is one of the most rude, unprofessional, condescending people I have ever come across in decades of owning classic carbureted cars. It is totally unfortunate that there are not better options than this piece of work here in SD. Will be heading to OC or LA. Hope this guy goes out of biz and that someone with a better vibe and attitude comes into the area. read more

The mechanics at Bob's Carbs know what they are doing, and they are extremely reliable. I own an 84 Chevy truck, and this is the only place I take it to get it serviced because I've had issues with other shops in nearby cities (Escondido and Vista) that claim they can work on a vehicle with a carburetor, but don't. Therefore, my truck just sits in their lot for weeks with no results. Bob's Carbs, on the other hand, has done major jobs on my vehicles with satisfactory results. Bob's Carbs replaced my engine on my 84 Chevy, and Mitch tells you that the warranty for the engine is with Jasper, not with the shop itself. Mitch and his crew also replaced my catalytic converter, front headlights, and replaced a bad fuel hose. My truck runs like new. Mitch and his crew have done work on my father's 2002 Kia Rio. They replaced the shocks and struts on it. My father is very happy as he claims he no longer feels "every bump on the road." Recently, I had a friend's 2002 Chevy Avalanche serviced after it was involved in an accident. She was satisfied that Mitch and his crew made her truck driveable again. Mitch has done an excellent job keeping me posted on the status of all the vehicles I've taken in to get serviced. Mitch also notifies me of any other other issues his mechanics catch while working on the vehicles. This is one of the few auto shops that has integrity. The work they do is amazing, and honestly, pricing is fair. In addition, the work is done in a timely manner. To anyone looking for a reliable auto shop. Look no further. Take it to Bob's Carbs. read more

I've been coming to Bob's Carbs for routine maintenance and bigger jobs for over 30 years. You will not find a more honest shop. When I was younger it was comforting to know that I wasn't being taken advantage of as a single woman, as we girls sometimes feel when it comes to automotive repairs. Bob, and now Mitch, care about you and the safety of your vehicle. read more

I've been taking my car to Bob's Carbs for 8 years. The quality and service is always on point, and Mitch strives to make sure his customers are happy and their cars are good to go. They're very communicative on what your car needs and what you're looking at price wise. My power steering started going out and Mitch gave me an in depth explanation on what was happening, why it was, and what needed to be fixed immediately which I appreciated as someone who doesn't know much about cars. I highly recommend them for good, quality work. read more

I used to take my Jeep to Carlsbad Automotive Technology, so when Dennis moved over to Bob's Carbs, I followed. Happy to say the great service has continued. Mitch and Dennis are super friendly, fast, they always explain clearly what needs to be done, and they try to save me money whenever possible. I can't ask for more than that in a mechanic. Dennis is the only mechanic I've had working on my Jeep since I bought it in 2011 and it's still running like a champ! I trust these guys and highly recommend! Thank you Mitch & Dennis! read more

I've been to Bob's Carbs twice now for my car. 2 separate items that needed to be looked at and repaired. I could not be happier with the service I received. Mitch was very professional and helpful, taking extra time to explain things to me in detail. The work was completed quicker than I expected and at a fair and affordable price. I won't be taking my car anywhere else to get work done on it. I definitely recommend this shop if you're looking for an honest and reliable auto shop. I had the best experience with Mitch at Bobs Carbs. He was friendly, attenuative, communicative, knowledgeable, HONEST, respectful and reliable. Mitch goes above and beyond to thoroughly explain to me what was done to my car. The work is fast, fair and affordable. I would highly recommend this auto shop! I travel an hour to go to Mitch's shop because he has always been professional. It is nothing less of an excellent experience. Even after the shop moved off coast highway, so many clients moved with him. If that doesn't show their integrity and character any better I'm not sure what does! Thank you Mitch! Thank you for being my trusted mechanic. :) read more

These guys are great! I'm so glad I found Mitch and Dennis. As a woman who doesn't know much about cars it's so nice to have a reliable mechanic! They are honest and go above and beyond. Also, a dealership quoted me an astronomical price for all the work that supposedly needed to be done. Mitch and Dennis hooked me up for a fraction of the price I was quoted. They saved me a ton of money. Highly recommend read more

WARNING! Mitch at Bob's Carbs on Production Ave in Oceanside will discriminate against you for being disabled and financially challenged. After nearly a year of trying to fight for help in getting my vehicle fixed, someone had stepped up to try and pay for the repairs required. FINALLY! Yesterday I gave him a call and ask him to please call my friend that was offering to possibly pay for the repairs required. I was so happy and excited for there finally to be some hope. He said he would call her. He lied and did not call at all. I assumed he had followed through. So I told her he had to of called. Since he didn't call, he made me look like a liar to the friend that was trying to help. I called Mitch to find out if he had actually called her or not. I didn't even get to finish getting my question out, before he starts raising his voice at me and going off on me about how busy he is and how he can't deal with me right now. The unprofessionalism I just dealt with is unreal and disgusting. Any customer being treated that way is not OK! Especially a disabled, single mother that has been stuck for nearly 2 years with a broken vehicle (nearly a year asking strangers for help). He threw lies at me, raised his voice at me and pushed and provoked me into further mental and physical anguish. Making me cry, go into a full blown panic attack, vomiting and worse. He was talking down to me and didn't care that he unprofessional responded to a simple and innocent question. "Did you have a chance to reach out to my friend that wants to help me, yesterday?" that was all I said to trigger his unprofessional behavior and attitude towards me. No he refuses to fix my vehicle at all. Simply for standing up for myself, and not allowing him to talk down to me. I cannot let this go and I won't. I'm going public. Discrimination against disabled people is unacceptable and illegal. Single mothers do not go here, disabled people do not go here. This man is despicable, and could care less about you or your situation. Blaming it on his age, and everything else as to why he can't control himself. Disregarding you and anything you might have to say. When I find a better and disabled single parent friendly place to get your vehicle fixed, I will stay here on an update. Don't every allow or condone anyone supposed professional Man treat you the way this man treated me. SHAME ON YOU MITCH! Karma to you. read more

I've been taking all of cars here for the last 4 years! I've brought in my 2005 Chevy truck, then my 2013 Chevy Cruze that has 100,000+ miles which has always given us issues. As newly weds and a younger military couple that moved here 4 years ago finding a mechanic we could trust was so easy when recommended bobs carbs. Not only was the service great and friendly, Mitch always let us know if it was something that we could easily fix on our own and would offer to order the parts for us that we would need. His communication with us about our vehicle gave us assurance that we weren't being ripped off like some would most do with a younger couple. If we ever find ourselves back in Oceanside I will definitely be bringing my vehicles back here. I always always recommend them to anybody that needs a good mechanic because I have nothing negative to say about there business! read more

BOBS CARB !!! Absolutely recommend their services for old/new make models. I took in my 78 Chevy c20, good ole 350 engine. I had them install new radiator, carburetor, water pump, after market radiator cooling fans, after-market mechanical gauges, tune-up!!! My truck has had smooth driving from here to 29 Palms and back, because of the great service done to my truck by Dennis and Mitch. I trust BOBS Carb for their honest evaluations of my vehicles, only do what's needed, and as a Christian, that's what I value in supporting local businesses. read more

I took my classic to Bob's Carbs for an inspection and carb maintenance. Where do I start? Mitch took me in like family and treated my car as if it were his. Mitch and the team went above and beyond!! They found a couple serious issues that had gone unnoticed by other shops. What I love about Mitch is if it's something he is not a pro at (which isn't a long list) he will get you to a trusted pro. Mitch is honest and always goes above and beyond. Mitch is a perfectionist and his work shows it. This guy even calls to check up on the car weeks later! Thanks Mitch for bringing the roar back to my mustang! Although my neighbors aren't so excited. Thanks for treating me like family and taking care of my baby!! read more

Bob's Carbs gets a five star rating from me! We were next door at the smog test place and our car wasn't going to pass. We asked where we should go to have someone find out what needed to be fixed so we can pass smog. The gentleman said there were 2 different auto repair places in the center, both of them were good, but wouldn't recommend one over the other. For some reason I chose Bob's Carbs, Since my mother was with me and I'm Sure we looked like 2 women that you could take advantage of to most people. I was quite surprised when Mitch got up and started walking over to the car and looking under the hood. He figured out what the problem was in about 2 minutes. Then he didn't have the exact piece he needed to make the repair so he sent us away and made an appointment for my mom the following day. My mom went back, he fixed it and told her to drive for 100 miles and if the light came on again to bring it back. If the light didn't come on then when she brought her car next door to get it sniffed she could pay him. We drove over 100 miles and no light came on. Yesterday we had time to go back and get her car smogged and tried to pay Mitch and he wouldn't take any money from us. Most men would ask for more money from a woman or especially an old woman, but no Mitch. He didn't even ask for a dime. In my book he is a wonderful Christian man and we are blessed to have met him. We will definitely be using him as our mechanic from now on. God Bless all of you at Bob's Carbs. read more

I'm sure glad I stumbled across Mitch at Bobs. My '74 F250 wasn't running well at all, and they got it running like it should be and it was less expensive than I thought it would be. My truck runs really smooth now. After so many years of rough driving, I had no idea what I was missing. Mitch did what he said he'd do and I felt like he treated my truck like it was his own. As he got into the carb, new things popped up and I didn't get killed with extras. He actually went above and beyond. All in all, great experience and I'll definitely go back and I'd highly recommend them to anyone (wtih a carb or not). read more

Bob and his carb shop are an Oceanside Icon! Ican remember driving by his shop when I was in high school and he'd been there a while then! You don't stay in business (especially the automotive business) by not knowing your craft. Phil and Bob do a great job here. It's a carb shop yes BUT they do so much more. Maintenance services, failed smog check diagnostics and all around service and also a service they provide. They took great care of me when my motor home was under the weather. I was a mechanic for 18+ years and I will NOT deal with carb issues. First off they have WAY too many small parts that my Carrot Fingers will drop, lose or break. Second carburetor work is an art form! The repairs were made in a timely fashion and for the price quoted.. None of that "Oh by the way you also need this, this and that." Some months later I was having an issue and Phil told me to bring it in and if it was something they did he would take care of it for me. Well, it turned out it was NOT something they did but a new problem and it was resolved quickly and for a reasonable price on the SAME day! Carburators have been replaced by fuel injection in new cars and consequently people that actually KNOW how to work on them are few and far between. These guys are your the best! read more

My Buick needed the carb rebuilt, and Bob's Carbs was the number one place recommended by North County locals. The shop is more than just carburetors; it's also a service shop with quality workmanship and top-notch customer service. Mitch and Jeff are trustworthy and honest guys. Their tune up has the Buick running amazingly well. Given their quality work and service, I continue to come back to the shop for big projects. They have fixed brake issues, replaced the master cylinder, corrected steering issues, replaced all kinds of seals, and solved troublesome electrical issues. Bob's Carbs is highly recommend! read more

Bob's is the best automotive shop. Not only do they treat you like family, they have the best prices and know exactly what they are doing. I have had several Carburetors rebuilt or adjusted through the years at Bobs Carbs and have received 100% satisfaction each and every time. Today was no different. So I have a 1978 Suburban. I have done a lot of work on the vehicle myself. I have fun doing it. But I'll tell you what. Carbs need to be worked on by someone who is experienced. I live 2 blocks away from Bob's and have frequented Primo's for the last 2 years. I thought Bob's Carbs only did "carburetors" (a mechanic's mechanic). But they do so much more... I ended up at Bob's on a whim after deciding I wouldn't bother taking my car to Ford and knowing I DEFINITELY wasn't going to 2 of the nearby local shops after my experiences there. I was honestly afraid of a 3rd strike, but am so glad I gave Bob's a chance! They've earned my trust and therefore my continued business. And at my car's age, there will be continued business... You get honest advice and TIMELY work done at a fair price. This shop will be a pleasant change for you if you're always left wondering whether or not the problem was solved. Or, "Did I really need that part??" And possibly most important to your pocket book and even safety,"WAS IT DONE RIGHT???" These are all questions I've had or have had to experience the unfortunate answers to many times. After I get work done-or should I say REDO work done by others prior-I leave without doubt that it's been done right and as deemed necessary. Bob's is still a family-owned and run business. Bob's son Mitch runs the shop. And there are several great mechanics I met who've worked on my Bronco who didn't mind talking to me about it. If Rich is your mechanic, he's type A about what he does and dedicated. I get the impression that for Rich, taking a vehicle apart and putting it back together is like cleaning a gun and putting it back together-operator style. A huge differentiator from the 2 other local shops I will never go to again is that Bob's will let you know just when you can expect to get your car back. And then they deliver. They might even surprise you and be done early. None of the 10-day runaround I'd experienced recently elsewhere! At this point, I've had several jobs done at Bob's and can't say enough good things about the experience so far. This is rare for me since I'm usually left complaining. To other Osiders: You're lucky to have Bob's nearby-a local shop that you can trust! read more
