Located on the exterior of the Marin Country Mart, to the left of Hog Island Oyster (or even closer…read moreleft of Le Marais), is Johnny Doughnuts. With its spacious seating, glass enclosed doughnut display, walk up wall menu on the exterior and its open concept register counter it is truly inviting. With a menu of unique flavors and those same flavor options beautifully displayed behind a glass window, we had to order a few to try. Flavors available were coffee cake, blueberry lime, lime poppyseed, vegan guava, and chocolate chip cronut - these five we ordered, Other flavors included brown butter glaze, strawberry, chocolate vanilla crème, raspberry jam, cinnamon glaze and sprinkles. Lemon blueberry was very lemon forward with subtle notes of blueberry. The doughnut itself was crusty and soft at the same time. We enjoyed the pairing and texture. The coffee cake was just that, a crusty soft dough with the crumbly topping of coffee cake goodness and all those spices too. The lime poppyseed was light, soft and airy with a citrusy zing of lime. It was the most refreshing of them all and this is coming from someone who is not a big fan of lime. The guava was like biting into the fruit, not too sweet on an airy, soft dough. The chocolate chip cronut was a flaky layered croissant like dough that tasted like a chocolate chip cookie with a decadent chocolate frosting. It was quite the pleasurable treat, our daughter loved it. The staff, compiled of two women at the front, were friendly with smiles. Our treats were packaged in a beautiful white and gold box, it looked elegant when presented to us. There is the availability of drinks to order like tea and coffees. We would most certainly return for me. I'm curious to see what other flavors and combinations Johnny Doughnuts presents to us.

It's THIS particular location... On CA-1 in Mill Valley, it's so conveniently on the way to downtown Mill Valley, Stinson Beach, Point Reyes...etc, etc. But regardless of where you're going, stopping in here feels like you're on vacation. Somehow browsing surfboards, even when you don't surf, assuages that unfulfilled dream, or fuels your standing wanderlust. Did you know that Thomas Keller serves Equator coffee at all of his properties? They partnered up 25 years ago, & equator even does special blends at certain TK restaurants. I would buy it in a heartbeat. For my birthday this year my husband started the day by surprising me in the morning with a dozen donuts. When I was a kid this was a special treat we had at Catechism and again my dad would walk with me to the Public Library to borrow books and after I got to choose a donut at the pink box donut shop closeby. I shared those memories with my husband who decided to make this years birthday a sentimental one, which started with a candle in a box of donuts waking me up for my special day. The donuts were delicious! The old fashioned - my favorite were equally crisp and light. The glaze wasn't too much so it wasn't overly sweet that begs for lots of Black coffee. I enjoyed them with a creamy sweet latte. We sat in bed eating donut after donut. These donuts were SO GOOD, I want another box. Come over and we can eat them together! DoorDash delivered so I have no idea about the physical location. Love classic donuts? Get them here!
