The front desk attendant at the hotel gave us a double thumbs up on the nearby Coachman Restaurant and Lounge so we made our way over with rather high expectations. We have to admit that at first glance the Coachman doesn't suggest a superior dining experience. A somewhat tired exterior and an outdoor deck populated by smokers gave us pause but we pressed on and could not have been more pleasantly surprised by the food, drink, and service. We started with a Casamiga Ranch Water and a pint of the local amber ale. The drinks arrived in frosted glasses with the perfect degree of crispness. The star here is the prime rib. We had the 12 ounce prime which was perfectly rare and served with a large dollop of horseradish as well as a medium rare prime rib sandwich. The meat was flawlessly seasoned and impeccably tender. Our visit to the Coachman reinforced the adage that one ought not judge a book by its cover. We don't know if our adventures will take us through Plainfield again but if they do we will prioritize a meal at the Coachman!

For dinner, we don't usually get appetizers, but we read so many good reviews of the Crab Rangoon Dip that we had to try it. It was excellent - a generous portion of cheesy dip with real crab, drizzled with a sweet and spicy chili sauce and plenty of fried wonton chips. Would be enough to share with 4 people, but the two of us had no problem finishing it. For dinner, I had the buffalo chicken wrap with house made chips. The wrap was a good sized portion and I had enough for lunch leftovers the following day. I appreciated that they used a spring mix blend instead of iceberg lettuce. Pancakes are their signature dish and I really enjoyed these, except they were too big. Two fluffy pancakes stacked together just about covered a dinner plate. Too often pancakes are floppy or overcooked. These were perfect. I would have liked the option for real maple syrup, though. It took an hour and fifteen minutes to get our food. Every table we could see were like us. We all had drinks and bread but no food. No one was eating dinner. My shrimp po-boy was good and just like I remembered. But my sister's red beans and rice was not. She said it could have used some salt but none was on the table and the server never checked in with us to see if everything was okay. The quality of the food has been declining this year. And they used to be open on Wednesdays but not anymore. It's a shame they couldn't maintain their excellence until the end. They should just go ahead and close now if this is the best they can do.

There is plenty of parking and many other restaurants shops nearby. The inside is clean and modern. There are roughly 10 tables, a comfy couch and chairs, and a small bar area. I HAD to try the Beach Day Latte. The latte was made perfectly. The icing on the cake was the house made coconut cold foam! Ohmygoodness- it was delicious. The breakfast sandwich was standard. I will say they did cook my egg to my liking. The bacon was good but still had grease on the two pieces. Our order taker was friendly and extremely helpful with the explaining the menu. I will definitely go back further the lattes!
