My work reserved the back section of the restaurant for a social event to welcome my team onto the Redmond Campus. While it is great anyone, non-employees and employees, can access this restaurant, there are better options if you can afford to travel further into Redmond or Bellevue. We had a variety of appetizers and small bites, from sliders, salads, to wings and cheese fries. The latter two were the biggest hit. Other than that, there was not much to note on the food. It was difficult to order a drink as well given this was not a private event. I had a late start for food so I wasn't hungry until 3:30pm, and the regular food halls and cafeterias are closed (since 2pm), so this was one of the few options open but it was fine since they had happy hour from 3pm. Happy hour makes this place a lot more affordable (almost 50% off the featured food items) but a very mediocre discount for drinks (so we opted out, also cause it's still the work day for me). We got the Boardwalk Smashburger add egg, chilaquiles nachos, and Korean fried chicken wings. The smashburger is really good, with the egg perfectly runny. Definitely recommend that, especially given the regular price is $18 so you're getting a nice value. The chilaquiles has a lot of jalapeños but also a good amount of beef barbacoa; fairly filling. The Korean fried chicken wings has a nice flavor profile in itself while the gochujang sauce was a bit strange in flavor so I enjoyed it as is The reason for the low rating was it was incredibly difficult to flag a server - they're just talking and on their phones. Cailin is the best server ever! She brought a ton of energy and made the visit memorable. I was here for a company event and everything was amazing. For drinks, I got a marshmallow old fashioned that had smoke and a toasted marshmallow and a wine and whiskey concoction. Both drinks were a good balance of taste and strength. Really enjoyed a quick dinner here while visiting the Microsoft campus. The interior design is prefab, but that's to be expected given the location. The space a light and open, with lots of different spaces for hanging out to catch a drink or sit and have a bite. We ordered off the happy hour menu. I got the Mac and cheese with chicken added on the server's recommendation. The Mac and cheese was good, although could definable been cheesier. The grilled chicken was a great addition though - really nicely seasoned and char-grilled. The staff is super friendly and attentive and everything is clean. Top notch service, food, and ambiance open to the public on the Microsoft campus. Came here after dropping my partner off for some meetings. Staff were friendly, and showed me to a cozy table. As a courtesy to servers I usually sit at the bar when solo dining to save space at the tables for larger parties. At Boardwalk, I learned that alcohol sales are prohibited until 4 PM and no one can sit at the bar before then. This policy makes total sense given their location in the middle of the Microsoft campus, and I didn't mind at all as this gave me the luxury of a full table to myself as a solo diner. I ordered the Salmon, which came out with a lovely salad (seriously, one of the best I ever had). The salmon skin was perfectly broiled, crunchy and delicious. The meat was exquisitely seasoned, and the portions were huge! I don't think I've had better salmon outside of my family's grill - and they get their salmon fresh from a guy in Alaska! I have a mild reaction to brassicas, and had forgotten to ask the staff if the salad mix they use contained cabbage and kale. It did, but the darn thing was so delicious I ate it anyway and resigned myself to a day or two of bloat. Happily crunching down on my candied nuts, apples, peaches, and greens I fished out as much red cabbage as I could. This wouldn't have been remarkable except for the waitress' reaction. After I asked to box part of my salad for later, she came out and told me that she had noticed I'd picked out the red stuff (cabbage) and had REMOVED THE REST OF IT when boxing up the salad. I was floored. I'm used to having to deal with awkward stares or snide remarks from waiters (allergy related or not, it's embarrassing to pick veggies out of your food at 30 - and often breeds unwelcome and rude assumptions). I thanked her profusely, and it made my day. I felt so seen! She had no idea why I'd skirted that particular veggie, and she went above and beyond to help without judgement! 11/10 will go there again. And if you're someone who needs to dissect their plate for neurochemical or gastroenterological reasons - no one will look at you weirdly for it. read more

Overpriced food with small portions. My fish and chips showed up with 1 piece of cod - this is not enough food for a meal, folks. The salad it claimed it came with was a clump of greens with olive oil drizzled on. Seriously. The cod was cooked well, but can't really destroy fried fish. $18 pretax for this, UGH. When it comes to having something to drink that isn't alcoholic, they were all out of the really cool root beer the waiter raved about to me. Then he told me they don't have a full bar so he couldn't make a Roy Rogers. Then he told me they didn't have Dr. Pepper. "Tell me what you have that is not alcohol, tea or coffee," I asked him. He told me about some lemonade spritzer none of us had ever heard of, and I said I'd try it. It was awful, so he said he wouldn't put it on the check. Menu is limited, and everything is expensive. Situated in the Microsoft Commons, next the sports field, this is the only place on Microsoft campus to get a drink. In fact, I think you might need a badge to get in during business hours. Of the typical modern hipster style, the interior is quirky and innocuous. The food is pretty good, fries are crispy, sauces are savory, and the portions are decent. The drinks are even, dare I say it, a bit eccentric. With a cherry infused Manhattan and a spicy Serrano margarita, it's actually not bad. Most of all, it's very nicely priced at happy hour, with cocktails around $8. Had a great time here! Was greeted as soon as I walked though the door, grabbed my drinks at the bar and sat down to an amazing meal. Was brought here by some folks who work for Microsoft so was a bit tricky finding the place but really enjoyed the food and drinks. Ordered some delicious food, was checked on multiple times about the food and if we needed anything else. One of the best Caesar salads I ever had in my life!! HANDS DOWN! Cheese was so finely graded, greens tasted fresh and dressed perfectly. Boardwalk is the new restaurant on the Microsoft West campus at The Commons in Redmond. This restaurant which replaced Spitfire is run by Maria Hines with a focus on upscale gastropub food using a lot of local and organic ingredients. As the name of the restaurant indicates, there is a boardwalk theme of amusement park food items that are given the gastropub remix. This restaurant represents a new era in dining on the Microsoft campus. First off, this restaurant is the only place on campus that offers liquor (after 4 pm) as well as a happy hour (4-6 pm on weekdays). Spitfire was supposed to offer liquor, but that plan was nixed due to legal issues at the time. The liquor offerings here include beer, wine and cocktails. The happy hour menu offers up liquor specials including a daily cocktail special for $6. The food menu has crowd pleasing fare including burger sliders, gourmet hot dogs and hand crafted pizzas. There also a few appetizers, entrees and salads as well. Desserts and milkshakes are available if you are looking for something sweet. I was working on campus Friday afternoon, so I decided to head over to Boardwalk for happy hour food and a cocktail before heading home. The happy hour food ($3-4) and liquor ($3-8) prices are pretty good and lower than you would find elsewhere. The area doesn't have many good happy hour places, so having a eatery on campus offering happy hour is welcomed. Happy hour is available within the whole dining room, not just the bar. For happy hour here, I ordered a St. Jude's albacore tuna taco ($3 HH), a Santa Monica mini pizza ($4 HH) and the daily cocktail which is the Spiced Myrtle Beach ($6 HH). The cocktail came first and was served in a larger glass than I was expecting. This original concoction is a mix of scotch and ginger tincture. Flavor was a bit subdued, so I would recommend squeezing some juice from the lemon slice into the cocktail. The happy hour food offerings arrived at the same time and I really enjoyed both. The tuna taco has an Asian fusion taste to it that is reminiscent to something you would find at Marination. The spiciness of the kimchi really accentuates this dish. I would definitely order this again. If you can't come for happy hour, this dish is also available on the appetizer menu. As for the pizza, this was good too. If you are looking for just a snack with your drink, this should suffice. The pepperoni is tasty and the sauce is a little bit spicy which I like. While this restaurant is meant to serve Microsoft employees, it is supposedly open to the public as well. I am not clear on the specifics though. They are open until 11 pm, which I don't think there are that many employees in the evening that are still on campus. Though I think it is certainly appreciated by employees with shift schedules. Perhaps they open to the public after the workday? In any case, this restaurant is a nice addition to the food offerings on the Microsoft campus which has elevated their game in regards to dining options in recent years. read more

I have to agree with other reviewers on the fact that the food is overpriced for what it is. I don't think that the portions are badly sized nor do I think that the quality of the ingredients is lacking. Actually both are pretty good. My issue is that the food is over salted- from the bread, to the Taylor Shelfish Clam Chowder, as well as the Halibut my husband ordered, to the Shrimp and Grits I got- while the atmosphere is decidedly that of a cafeteria (which basically it is since is its located in the Commons on the Microsoft Campus). The service was great but as a whole, the overall experience does not match the price you end up paying for the food. I might give it another shot when the menu changes but until then, I'll stick to the bajillion other dining options at or around Microsoft when I visit my husband for lunch. read more

Great friendly waitstaff and hostess, food is decent. It's nice looking inside but loud. In the evening , this place is really crowded often and making reservations is online and rather frustrating. Being on campus, we mistakenly thought it was an option for a team get dinner but it didn't work out. Very few available times, staff help on reservations (via email) is a poor experience. Crabby, indifferent responses remind you they don't need the business and don't care- then don't take reservations at all, I say. Sad since Microsoft is the gravy train for this on campus restaurant that is in the Commons for employees... oh well. So if you're looking for a place for a group I'd go to Matt's in Redmond Town Center, it's quieter and they're more accommodating. Better food, too. read more

Overpriced, mediocre food. Been here several times, yet to find something I like. What's worse, I bright my family here for the holiday character breakfast, and the woman at the front counter turned my family ( only3 of us) away with 45 minutes left of their breakfast remaining and half the restaurant empty. Apparently she couldn't be bothered to put us on the wait list even though there weren't that many people in front of us, not to mention half the restaurant was completely empty I hauled my family out here for the character breakfast and was unpleasantly surprised by the rude service. The staff were friendly and prompt with our orders, taking away dishes, and getting the bill through our whole visit. I got a lemon lime soda and their Santa Monica pizza. The drink was served poured in a jar of ice and the pizza was tasty. What upset me more was how the restaurant handled it. 1) I provided feedback on the way out, very politely. 2) The hostess was nice about it, and begged me to fill in a comment card. 3) I took time to fill in the comment card with all of the details including mine. 4) A few weeks pass, no response 5) I have done a few work meetings there, so I emailed the restaurant as well to give feedback. 6) no response. Really cannot recommend. Always busy on a Friday, yet understaffed. Hard to just get a drink now. Before it was much better, very informal you could grab a free table and get table service. Even if it was busy, you could stand and drink and socialize. Overly formal now, service is very slow, food pretentious and often dry and over salted, can't even get a diet soda. Having been to in.gredients (also on campus and also the brainchild of a popular local chef), I had high expectations. The place is so cute, the menu items thoughtfully crafted (or over-engineered, depending on how you look at it), and our waitress was friendly and witty. The food was okay and the drinks were weak (but probably for a good reason, we are still on Microsoft campus after all), but happy hour was a good deal. The beignets were a bit dense and dry, instead of having the consistency of fluffy pillows like the ones I really like from Cafe du Monde in NOLA. Decent place for happy hour: order the wine and mini pizza off the happy hour menu. You can get in without a Microsoft badge, so good place to meet friends as well since it's pretty easy to find and parking is plentiful. read more

The most disappointing $60 lunch for 2 I have ever had. The menu was microscopic. No fountain sodas. I opted for iced tea. No option for sugar alternatives/sweetener. I was offered simple syrup. Meh. The best part about the meal were the french fries, but those were mediocre at best. The clam chowder was like how I imagine bitterness and regret would taste like. I've also had a better salmon burger from Costco -- the frozen kind. I'm not fond of the stuff from Costco, either. The salmon burger had no flavor and no texture. The chicken caesar salad photographed well. It was ok. However, while ok, it tends towards more of the meh side. I didn't understand the low ratings and the even lower reviews. I see why now. Like all of Maria Hines restaurants, this ones extremely mediocre. I think the theme of the menu items here is "gourmet junk food". I got the duck and chicken hot dog and was not impressed. The bread here is super firm and tasteless, this applies to the bread stick starters and the hot dog buns. This place seems really pretentious too. When I asked how big the hot dogs were, the server responded with a tidbit about how all their ingredients are organic and locally sourced. I also tried the kale pasta which was bursting with ZERO flavor. All in all a huge disappointment if you're paying $15 for a pasta dish. Had the torte for dessert and disliked the texture. It was almost like soil and crumbled to an abyss as the fork tried to break off a piece. I wouldn't recommend this place for anyone on campus.
