Over the years and after trekking thousands of miles, I can honestly say that far too many businesses and organizations do not effectively promote their existence from the outside for all the world to see. Do you know what I'm talking about? I can't stand having to squint to see what kind of a business I'm passing as I'm driving by, especially when I'm desperately seeking a certain type of establishment. It can be very frustrating. Well, there's an answer for this problem. It's called Sign-A-Rama - the one in Powell specifically. Here, you will find the best service at the best prices, because Craig Snider is in charge. They will help any organization create and produce any type of signage you need to prevent prospective customers (like me) from passing by. Stop losing business. I came here on a Thursday evening just to do something creative and explore Columbus a bit more. Despite the GPS getting me there fine, i struggled a bit to find the entrance itself but came in to find a big bright studio full of color and fun paintings, with the instructor on the phone helping other lost folks guidance on how to get there. I did manage to find signs that guided me to the entrance thankfully! The instructor and owner introduced herself and we eventually got started. She took us step by step and broke down each step to the size of brush and way to do each technique on the canvas. She walked around and helped all of us along the way. It was a small class of 7 so we got lots of one-on-one attention but I can see how in a more packed class that would be a challenge. She was very patient, encouraging, and super complimentary which I loved! She didn't rush us out of the studio even though we ran late, and since we were a small class she even gifted us a free glitter application on our paintings which is normally $1 extra. The cool thing is she also sells older paintings for $5, so you can check out previous projects and shop before, during, and after you paint. It's a BYOB kind of place but she has corkscrews, wine glasses, and a deal with the bar next door if you choose to order food. The only negative is that the class was supposed to start at 6:30 but we didn't start until after 7 which ended up having us end much later than 9:30, but nothing that would deter me from coming back here and bringing friends as well!

Given the time for teaching (roughly 30 minutes) and another 20 for cleaning up your station and washing everything you end up with roughly 40 minutes of spinning, much less than I initially expected. Bareclay offers several types of classes at the moment. Currently class options are one day each…read moreweek, for three weeks (evening & daytime). There are date night classes for two and a one time sampler class. Plus, if you've already been to a class there's the option to book an open studio. Which is a spot to come and create. You can also rent out the studio for small groups. I booked my wife a one off Sunday class. Unfortunately, something came up and she was unable to attend so I went in her space. I am glad that I went it was a delightful way to spend a Sunday! The try-it class fee includes one fired & glazed finished piece. (There is the option to purchase other creations as well.) The instructor for the one off Sunday class was great. They explained and showed the process we would take before giving us space to create at our own stations. The showing was great for me as I am the type of person who learns by doing so being able to see the wheel in action, see the movements that change the shape of the clay, and the tools that were going to be used set me up for success when it comes to (attempting) to create on the wheel. Each station had a wheel, many sections of pre-cut ready to be thrown clay, water, tools that could be used, and a posted reminder of the process of creation. (I appreciated this as it gave me something to refer to as I was attempting to create a masterpiece!) During the class time the instructor was walking about offering help, and sharing tips to aid in the creation of our pieces. After creation, you help clean up your station, and choose the glaze color for your creation. Glaze options were blue, green, and red. At the time of this class the turn around time from creation to glazed, fired, and ready to be picked up was four weeks from the class date. ------ Previous to this class I hadn't used a wheel in well over 25 years. (And that was only once or twice in art classes in elementary and middle! So nothing that would give me considerable skills.) I am planning on booking one of the couple classes so that the wife and I can create together. All in all, I highly recommend checking out the offerings at Bareclay and booking a class if you are able! Nice space to try out something new or to get back into something you enjoyed in a comfortable and friendly environment.

The team did a great job helping us celebrate by making a subtle birthday sign. They were also all very kind and helpful throughout the entire night. The candle making was easy and straight forward, and it was able to set while we did our class. Before class started they took our drink orders and they came quickly. We got a lemon drop and a paint water martini. Both were very tasty! Only a few people were on time, but they did give a few minutes grace period to let people find parking. By the time we got started the vibes were fun. Yahfa was our artist and she had an awesome Y2K playlist going. She explained all the steps clearly and gave us ample time to paint. We did a black light picture so most of the class was in the dark with the paint glowing. As someone who is not an artist this was so much fun! The whole process took about 2 hours, and it was easy to follow along from both her instructions and seeing her work projected on the tv. The team also made sure to regularly check in to see if we needed anything or wanted any drinks. At the end of our time, our paintings were mostly dry and our candle was set. We were also able to choose a painting from a number of options as a birthday gift for my husband. It was very sweet and a nice cherry on top of our night! We are so happy with how it went that we are already planning to go back and bring some friends along too! If you get the chance, this is definitely a fun activity for a date, friends, or even families!

It was getting within a week of the date and I still didn't get a confirmation. I called the place AT LEAST 12 times and sent 2 emails and still no response, because the mailbox was full and nobody ever answered the phone. Since I was bringing 8 people, I needed to confirm. So I drove to the place (which was supposed to be open, but was closed) and left a note, written on a napkin (saying PLEASE CALL AND CONFIRM) and placed it under a rock in front of the door. I spent at least an hour, if not more, trying to confirm this party. After the note, I finally got a phone call. NO APOLOGIES for the inconvenience were given. The person just said that there phones weren't working. Additionally, the painting instructor was very kind, but young and NOT VERY INSTRUCTIVE. She said, "Paint flowers at the bottom." Well, I want to know HOW to paint flowers! My painting looked like a 5 year old. When I went to another studio in Worthington about a year ago, I left with a beautiful painting because the instructor gave us all very detailed instructions and SHOWED us how to paint, instead of TELLING us what to paint. I WOULD NOT RECOMMEND!!
