Terra Gallery is a working gallery that hosts a variety of hands on events listed either on their site or on eventbrite. I didn't spend much time exploring the gallery because I was pretty sure I'd need all of the time for my project, but there were a lot of interesting looking pieces that I will plan to explore more in the future. The space is a little small, but they have made good use of it, and are planning a move across to Bridge Park soon. I was glad I recruited a friend to join, because we were the only two people in the class! It was a fairly laid back event. The instructor had sketched out the details on the canvases before we arrived, and they provided a little instruction card that kind of showed how to build your piece up. As usual with these events, we ended up with two very different finished products, and my friend chose not to add some of the elements to her piece. April helped her take things out as she preferred. Since it was just the two of us, we were chatting and painting and the instructor was working on her own piece while another woman priced pieces in the gallery. They were very friendly and I had a great time!

This is a fun activity to do with friends and family. When I went with my friends & family we just joined an open class but you can actually schedule private sessions too for things like bridal parties, get togethers with friends or with a group of couples. Our class was comprised of several families and groups of friends and co-workers taking this class. An instructor shows painters what brush and paint to use one step at a time. Brushes to be used and paint colors are predetermined for the paintings chosen by the instructor. They show how to draw and paint parts of the painting one step at a time. The younger of the two instructors is a bit slower and easier to talk to and understand when she speaks with her back turned to the class. Lots of fun for friends and family, can be pricey for large groups. $120 for a family of four.

You start with raw, unfinished wood and destress, sand, stain, put your sign together and create the art. When you walk out you will have a sign that is ready to hang (hanging wire attached), which is great! The staff was feisty but generally helpful. When I picked a Christmas countdown to do it was definitely one of the harder picks but the instructors helped me so much! They helped me pick out where to place certain things and they let me pick out my own painting colors and stains which the freedom with that was awesome!
