Our class was comprised of several families and groups of friends and co-workers taking this class. An instructor shows painters what brush and paint to use one step at a time. Brushes to be used and paint colors are predetermined for the paintings chosen by the instructor. They show how to draw and paint parts of the painting one step at a time. The younger of the two instructors is a bit slower and easier to talk to and understand when she speaks with her back turned to the class. Lots of fun for friends and family, can be pricey for large groups. $120 for a family of four.

We visited to try out the Splatter Studio, which is pretty much what it sounds like: it's a studio that you can visit to make splatter paintings. We got outfitted with goggles, aprons and other protective gear, then headed into a room with lots of neon paint and a few blank canvases. The lights were turned off, the music was turned on, and were allowed to splatter and throw paint against the canvases to create our own individual paintings. It was a therapeutic -- and fun, and messy -- experience for my whole family. After we were done, we got to take home our artwork that we had created together. I don't usually like to make a mess, so splatter painting is not an activity that I usually would have sought out myself. But I'm glad that I tried it! Like I said, it was very cathartic and therapeutic. Slinging paint against a wall is a big stress reliever, believe it or not. And my kids, who are used to people telling them not to get messy and throw things, were super excited to get messy and throw things. This was a fun art activity for everyone. The owner of Young at Art, Karla, is a local art teacher, which is really neat. Along with the splatter studio, she also offers art classes and art lessons, as well as canvas painting parties. Karla is very friendly and made us feel at home in her studio during our painting session. I had the pleasure of attending a "Paint and Pour for Pelatonia" fundraiser organized by a coworker…read moreof mine. The event was well organized, as the canvas/paints/brushes/smocks are all provided. The activity itself was SO much fun! We ate pizza, sipped on wine and paint to our heart's content! Even though we had a large party of about 30 painters, the instructors, Anna, came around and helped me several times, even showing me what I needed to do and offering feedback. She was supportive and helpful. Despite my dreadful painting, I LOVED my experience with Art with Anna. I especially loved that the money raised went to support cancer research at the James.

My niece has been taking art camp classes here for a little over a year and she loves it! The owner (I am assuming her name is Kym) was very helpful, as were her daughter and son who were helping her out. They gave advice during the session, and brought fresh water to rinse paintbrushes. They came with more paint when we requested it. They also helped us blowdry the canvasses. It was the instructor's first time and he did great. I am not an artist and don't consider myself creative, so I was a bit nervous, but it turned out just fine. You can book and pay online, after choosing the day by whatever painting you want to create. All you need to bring is your own wine; they have available corkscrews and stemless glasses.
