Bo Ling's has by far been the best, most consistent Chinese food in the KC metro area for years. Excellent flavor and quality, they hit the mark on so many classic American-Chinese dishes. Great, non-greasy crab Rangoon, awesome Mongolian beef, fried rice, all potstickers, and so many more. The Plaza location offers authentic and tasty dim sum on Saturdays and Sundays. They have good hot and sour soup, but the egg drop definitely needs work. Too congealed. read more

The Vietnamese Spring Rolls were a bit bland, could have used the Viet fish sauce to enhance the flavor more than the peanut sauce. In fairness, I did not request the fish sauce; I took what came with the order. The Sichuan Wonder Chicken is by far my favorite dish when dining at Bo Lings, bursting with flavor and just the right amount of spice to heat the evening. Went tonight for my birthday dinner and was pretty disappointed in the food.Customer service was great. Restaurant overall was comfortable. Food came out fast but after what we got I wish they would spent more time on my dish. We picked two dishes, general tso's chicken which was excellent but my dish was badddd... I ordered the chicken chow funn and they brought me beef chow funn. You couldn't even recognize that there was noodles on the plate. It just looked like a pile of mush. Loved eating here, I used to avoid this place because I thought it was like every chain but I was pleasantly surprised. I ordered the Mongolian Beef and the House Fried Rice and it was enough to share. I also ordered crab Ragoons. The flavor was great and the seafood in the fried rice was much bigger than the veggies and I loved that. Typically at chinese restaurants they have veggies that are huge to cover up for the lack of meat but Bo Lings is EXTREMELY generous and it was all worth the money. First of all, we had to ask them to clean our ..table.. (should have been a sign to move on). Then I ordered orange chicken which was not breaded or fried or crispy or in orange sauce. The chicken was covered with general tso sauce. There was plenty of food, just wish it tasted like what I asked for. Not a good visit to what is normally a good restaurant and when I asked about the meal, I was pretty much dismissed, told general tso and orange chicken is the same...Really??? Super disappointed in this location. Just moved to the area and used to go to the 135th and Metcalf location and always had good food. Last night I ordered crab Rangoon and chicken fried rice to go from this location. I asked for red sauce for the crab Rangoon which she repeated back to me but I never received it. A disappointment. Food was not up to my expectation. Appetizers came after the entrées. My wife had pad Thai, and it was severely over cooked and mushy. My curry chicken lacked flavor, and the brown rice was dry. Our Vietnamese spring rolls came several minutes after the entrée. Was craving Bo Lings vegetable fried rice, and I ended up being disappointed. It looked like it had all the normal ingredients but it completely lacked the normal yummy flavor. The crab rangoon were filled with green onions, way to many. And you really got short on meat for the sweet and sour chicken. Best meal I've had in Kansas City since I moved here. I had the traditional chive dumplings that are boiled. Eight dumplings come on the plate with a cup of dumpling sauce, and the pork and seasoning were fantastic. The Gong Bao (Kung Bao) Chicken with Brown and Green Beans. The green beans were fresh and crispy. The chicken was cooked just right with peanuts and the spicy sauce poured over the chicken and beans. The sauce wasn't spicy enough for me but they can make it spicier if asked for. The restaurant was nice and clean with a small bar and one television. Bo Lings over in Lenexa was one of my first Chinese experiences in the KC metro. Wait, or maybe Panda Express. . . no, nevermind. So the place was pretty great. Quiet atmosphere and red everywhere. I'm sure I'm probably wrong, but I swear all I saw was red. You know what? That doesn't bother me. Red is in and so is how quick the food came out. I think I finished my first sip of water when the plates started arriving. Upon first assumption, that leads this guy to believe stagnant food on the warmers. I retracted that thought when my lemon chicken order arrived and I was overwhelmed with a platter-o-chicken and the rest of the food was pretty good. As far as my order goes, I thought maybe some bits of chicken on a bed of fried or jasmine rice. Nope. Chicken. Probably the whole bird. Breasts of chicken were before me and I was left speechless. I was a little blank on the fact that my order consisted of only chicken and nothing else for me to savor. Luckily my party ordered a plate of shrimp-fried rice which was more than enough for the three of us. Chinese leftovers were in our future and that makes me a happy fellow. Bo Lings is a bit like your standard run little Chinese place with nothing too unique about it, especially the TV in the front area. That was a bit of a downer. I normally wouldn't pay that much for Chinese food, but decided to give it a try. I am very disappointed. The dumplings were soggy and flavorless. The chicken was mediocre, and the curry was just ok. I tried Boling's based on their menu plus a few good reviews of other locations. I should have known better than to believe there was decent Chinese food in KC. The menu actually looked good - it didn't look like your typical Americanized Chinese food. So we went. And we ordered a ton of food - the pork dumplings, the Vietnamese style spring rolls, the sizzling rice soup, and the fried noodles with beef, chicken and shrimp. The dumplings came out first. The skins on the dumplings were a little thick and the pork wasn't very flavorful. The sauce was the soy and sesame oil mix but was heavy on the sesame oil and did not have enough peppers. They didn't taste homemade, which is a definite ding. Next were the spring rolls. They were really loosely wrapped and the sauce was a thick hoisin instead of a peanut sauce. Um, no. The sizzling rice soup was the best thing we ordered. The soup broth was clear like it should be and there was a lot of chicken, rice, shrooms, carrots, ginger and a few snow peas in the mix. The noodles looked good, but once I had the sauce, I was like meh. There was a good amount of meat and veggies, but the sauce was just this thick brown mess. I asked for it to be a little spicy and they ignored that too. Sigh. We would have been better off eating at Panda Panda. Not coming back. read more

Yes, it's in a strip mall. But I think there comes a time when a business should earn its street cred if it survives its location for a certain length of time. Bo Ling's has been my go-to chinese place for a couple of decades now. Wow. Way to age myself. Anyway, I know they have a fancy new location in the River Market, and I do go there. But this location will always have a place in my chinese-loving heart. I love everything I've ever had here. The garlic chicken is one of my favorites, along with the fried rice and veggie lo mien. And I can't eat here without ordering some steamed dumplings and crab rangoon. I'm getting hungry just typing this. It's consistently good. Nothing fancy, just good ol' chinese. The service is always very unobtrusive, but not exactly friendly either. As long as my food and drinks come when they should, I don't have a complaint about service. Before you leave, don't forget to stop and pick up some almond cookies to go. I can practically taste them right now...crispy, sweet, and just the right amount of crumbly, almond goodness. read more

We love Bo Ling's and this is our favorite location. Typically when we dine at Bo Ling's we visit this location. The service is always consistently friendly and fast. I can never recall a visit when I needed to wait for anything. As a parent I appreciate dining without being rushed. My daughter and I have come by ourselves on a few occasions. She like their soup. Daddy likes that they treat my three year old with class. The staff always smiles and welcomes her. I think that they make her feel welcomed and like she is an adult in their establishment. This means a lot to me because we are working on her manners and how to behave like a lady in public. (She's not a bad girl by any stretch of the imagination. In fact, she's quite the opposite.) My order has always been accurate when I have carried out from this location as well. This store is close to where I used to work so my team and I used to order lunch from here quite often. Our order was always correct and still hot by the time we drove back to 95th and Renner Blvd. Right now our favorite is the Dan Dan Noodles with pork. read more

We eat here frequently, it's our go-to for good Chinese. You will not find a cleaner restaurant and their county restaurant inspection results are stellar. We've tried many of the entrees and haven't found one we don't like. The food is always hot and fresh and they'll make any changes i ask for. Crab Rangoon is great. It seems though at some point in time they may have changed their hot and sour soup recipe, maybe a year or two ago. We used to like it but haven't been impressed in the last year. After sitting for 10 minutes no one had even come by our table so we left. There were two people at the front door and wished us a wonderful evening. My daughter and I have been going to boling's Chinese restaurant for about 7 years. and my ex-wife and I went there about 5 years previous to that.. About 4 weeks ago my daughter and I went there. We ordered our normal sweet and sour chicken and I get shrimp fried rice, Triple delight, Chicken lettuce wraps, & a cup of hot & source soup... It's a lot of food, but I take most of it home for lunch and dinner the next week. I also ordered the same to go and let me say it was $96.89 bill with a $20 tip. The soup bowl must of had soap in it because that was all you could taste, and All the rice was not cooked..... This was not the first time it had happened, we eat there at least twice a month and it's been going downhill for a year or better... I called the older Chinese lady that manages it... she said she would have the manger call me, 4 different times, over a 2 week period.... It's been 4 weeks ago, I have not heard from him yet. It's sad. I loved Bolings... But will not return to the restaurant to eat ever again. Please be careful... We've eaten here many times over the years but this meal was absolutely horrible!! The service was slow & unfriendly. The hard noodles served with the soup were stale. The crab rangoon was nearly all cream cheese with no flavor at all. My dish (chicken & shrimp in ginger sauce) was awful. The chicken tasted like vinegar & the entire thing was very salty & unpleasant tasting. When I politely told the manager of my distasteful experience, she simply said: "sorry" & brought a cookie. Shrimp was spoiled, dumplings tasted like pure flour, and the sever was unable to deliver food to the correct table. The table buser did a better job than the sever. When I told the sever about the shrimp she said it was just how they are since they order shrimp from the Gulf. I'm sorry but shrimp doesn't taste like pure metal or soggy. I checked out Yelp reviews before we came here - did we miss something vital?! I had the honey walnut shrimp, it was way too sweet (and I love sweet stuff but it was too much even for me), the rice tasted weird and the actual shrimp itself was like biting into this rubbery texture. I pushed my plate away. The oolong tea was like dishwater (and I let it steep for ages). My husband had mandarin chicken and he was also disgusted by the same rubbery texture. We had sweet and sour chicken...so so, Honey Walnut shrimp...less than so so because half the shrimp were very fishy, and Vegetable fried rice I thought was pretty good, but the rest of the the party were not overly impressed.
