His guys even found a way to reused some of the removed boards to fix some spots in a way that really hid the repairs. His communication was good and timely. I would definitely use him again.

As the Fall set in last year, my bricks started to turn white. I called Mr. Ramirez about this issue repeatedly and he stated that it was the mortar used and that he needed to replace the mortar. PLEASE WATCH THIS VIDEO. Mr. Ramirez cannot be trusted. I paid him $6K and this is what my stairs look like! Not only are the bricks scratched, he used inferior materials. Given the fact that Mr. Ramirez lacks integrity, I requested a full refund. Mr. Ramirez has refused to respond to my calls and texts. Now, I will have to take him to DC Small Claims Court to get my money back. Honestly, I don't think Mr. Ramirez respects Black women. While he was working on my stairs, I brought him, his colleague, and his mother AND father hearty lunches--for several days. And this is how I am treated. I will receive JUSTICE in Court. Shameful!

The crew, who were great to work with, has been with Mottern a long time and know their craft. Each day, they left the site clean and orderly. We had some drainage/waterproofing issues that needed addressed, and when I found out the scope of their skills, we also hired them for a laundry list of things I had on my wish list since moving in a few years ago. These folks did it all for us! For starters, they repaired a brick wall in our front yard, installed a new sump pump drain pipe and exit, re-worked some existing exterior waterproofing that had been done sloppily in the past, and added a new concrete pad and drain by our back door. They even helped us track down an underground gutter leak and replaced the broken pipe. The showpiece job, however, is the stunning stone retaining wall, that they meticulously built by hand, across the back yard along with the new cement parking pad and stamped concrete border tapering it to our existing drive. The pictures don't do it justice (attached is a "before" photo for reference). Everything was done with great care and precision, using high-quality materials. The owner of the company, Deborah, was a gem to work with. She is super-passionate about the environment and the quality of work her company does. We worked with Gerardo and he was also fantastic. He had great ideas and suggestions in terms of practicality and design. He was also flexible with a few adjustments along the way. You can tell that these folks are truly experts in their field and take great pride in their work. I would hire this company again in a heartbeat!

Jamie Newkirk started the process by giving me the lowest quote of the five quotes I received. His quote was not only the lowest, but the service he offered was more complete. When I told him he had the job - a foundation for a large garage with deep footers and a less than ideal location, he gave me a schedule I loved. Despite hurricane Ida filling the footers with water, Jamie met his schedule. I got to know his two lead workers, Javier and Alex Pontille (I hope I spelled it right). Javier has worked for Jamie for 17 years and Alex his cousin has worked for Jamie for 6 years. Both are true artists with concrete. I've had lots of concrete work done before but their attention to detail was something to watch - I did watch for hours as they went over every inch of the foundation to assure the 1/8 slope was correct, the top and bottom rebar was correctly placed, the wire mesh was correctly located, and the surface was perfect. Before they left, they resurfaced they ground and planted grass seed. I really can't say enough good things about Jamie and his team. I love my garage foundation. My wife was picky about the kind of grate she wanted to cover the drainage channel, and James went out of his way to accommodate her preference. All the work was done on time and on budget, and the team was friendly and courteous. They returned several times to fix some minor issues after the job was done and let us postpone the final payment until all work was completed.
