Five stars. Great first meeting. Awaiting estimate for replacing entire brick walk way leading to our front door..

Matt is very thorough and came through in a big way for us, on budget and on time. We needed a chimney relined and it was a challenging old house- no problem for him! Many thanks! read more

I needed my chimneys to be repointed and both crowns needed to be redone, so I reached out to several businesses and Matt, from Hearthstone, was phenomenal to deal with. He was prompt in replying, provided an honest and trustworthy consultation of the work that needed to be done, and in the end I chose him to do the work which was a great value. I would highly recommend him to anyone looking for chimney or masonry work. read more

We couldn't recommend Matt any higher if we wanted! He was super easy to get ahold of, very responsive, scheduled for an inspection and cleaning within a reasonable amount of time....all unheard of in this neck of the woods. Day of, we confirmed the time with Matt - 4pm - and he said he'd be here around then. He was here around 3:30 - which could have been bad had we been coming home at 4 for the appointment but worked out perfectly for us. He was so friendly, quickly got to work, gave us lots of good info and was on his way. Not to mention the price was INSANELY reasonable! Finally, a GREAT customer service experience in NoVa! THANK YOU, Matt! read more

Matt at Hearthstone Chimney and Masonry is extremely professional and competent; more importantly he has great customer service and stands by his work. I recommend this company 100%. My front concrete porch steps and brickwork were in need of repair this past spring - some repointing of the bricks and repair of concrete. This was a small project and I was having a difficult time finding a contractor who would do the work (most companies that I contacted had a minimum project size). Thankfully I came in contact with Matt at Hearthstone Chimney and Masonry. Matt came out to do the estimate when he said he would and completed the work on budget and on the scheduled date. There was a minor issue where I thought a small crack in the concrete hadn't been filled completely - Matt came right back out to redo that portion. Six months later the work looks great and no issues. read more

Matt responded promptly indicating that he stopped offering chimney cleaning as a service.

After having received an outrageously high estimate for chimney sweeping from a local Vienna business, I checked out other services online. As Matt had received multiple five-star ratings elsewhere, I gave him a shot. He was very fairly priced, efficient, and a joy to deal with. Highly recommend him. This is an update. During October 2015 I tried multiple times to reach Matt: phone message, email, via Yelp. No joy. Either he is out of business or otherwise occupied. Hope he returns to the game soon. read more

Matt was easy to schedule an appointment with and came out quickly from the time I put in the request. He's very pleasant and did a complete inspection of the chimney and cleaning and was done in no time. He followed through with an email receipt and politely thanked me for having him out to clean the chimney. No, I should be thanking you Matt! read more

Matt is a remarkable professional to work with. He is knowledgeable and goes above and beyond. Our family hired him to inspect our chimney and the sellers ended up hiring him for the large project (replacing bricks, capping etc.). The county inspector was amazed by his work so that spoke a lot about his above satisfactory work. He is reliable, professional and honest. I highly recommend his services to anyone who is looking for a very competent, top-notch, professional chimney and fireplace service in NOVA/DC area. read more

Matt is wonderful. We have used him to inspect our chimney in our previous home and he inspected and repaired our chimney in our current home. He is prompt, courteous, and professional. In fact he stopped by today because I though I was having a problem with my flume cover. Turned out it was just morning frost that was jamming up the enclosure. We love Matt's work and are happy to act as a reference for your next chimney and light masonry project. read more

Matt is the best. Work done was high quality and completed quickly. Our family will be only using this company from now on for chimney services. Thanks read more

Matt was unable to actually service our fireplace since we do not live in the area, but I am writing him a review of excellence because he went out of his way on a weekend to give us free professional advice. We were scammed by another chimney service and seeking a second opinion. Matt took the time to look at photos of our chimney and recommend, to the best of his ability, what we should consider before purchasing any repairs. He could have easily turned us away and ignored our request for help, but he did not. Many thanks Matt! read more

Professional. Top notch work. Would highly recommend. Next day service. He's willing to work with your schedule and my dogs loved him.

The reviews on here are all exactly spot on. Matt was great. I contacted him to clean and inspect my chiney and fireplace, as well as repoint the fire box. He arrived on time and was extremely pleasant to deal with. His work was completed quickly, looked great, and was done for what I thought was a very reasonable price. He will become my go to brick/stone/chimney guy going forward. read more

We contracted Matt to repair the fireplace in out house in Reston. He communicated with us regarding the status of the project, and the work was conducted in a professional manner. Matt took care to protect the work area both inside and outside the house. We would strongly recommend him for future masonry work. read more

Matt was very prompt and professional. Reasonable prices and did a great job. He put in a new liner and will be coming back for additional work. Definitely pleased with his work. read more

Very competitive price and excellent work! Matt is very friendly and doesn't try to oversell. Repointing work was excellent and other work was excellent as well. I highly recommend. read more

Matt is by far the most honest and professional contractor I've worked with. After inspecting all three of our fireplaces, I was nervously awaiting an extensive laundry list of required cleaning and repairs, yet was pleasantly surprised by a very honest assessment and affordable list of what needed to be done. I highly recommend you have Matt inspect your fireplace before you contract with anyone else. He won't try to oversell or upsell and as you will see from the other reviews; his workmanship is highly respected. read more

I hired Hearthstone Chimney and Masonry to re-point the historic stone foundation for my house in Leesburg. This was a time consuming job which required removing the loose, and not so loose, mortar from all the joints and replacing with clean, fresh mortar lines that really make the house look great. Matt did an excellent job and I could not be more impressed with the results. I highly recommend him for any masonry work your home may require. Call him! You will not regret it! read more

Matt did an outstanding job stucco-ing our cinder block foundation addition wall to match the existing foundation. We cannot tell where the old and new walls meet up - which is what we wanted. He also installed a chimney cap to keep the wind/rain out, repaired some cracks and applied a water repellent to the chimney. He's very knowledgeable, thorough and passionate about his work and best of all the price was very reasonable for the quality received. Highly recommend him for your masonry needs. read more

Matt did a chimney inspection for us as we are gearing up to put in a new wood stove. Based on his recommendations we had him do some minor exterior work which was very reasonable. In addition, we had Matt build us a custom hearth using some antique bricks we found on our property. The end result was amazing, he definitely excels in his craft. If your looking for a knowledgeable, meticulous, and honest mason Matt is your man. We highly recommend him and will certainly give him a call for any future projects. read more

Matt cleaned and inspected our brick fireplace inside and out. The job was done with no disruption and cleanup by Matt was thorough. He also spotted some tiny cracks in the mortar due to a mixing error made when the house was constructed in 1987. I know this to be true because we had to do major repairs after the earthquake of 2011, partially related to the poor condition of the mortar. Matt told us how we can mitigate the cracks to minimize damage going forward. Matt is a true professional and he communicates clearly. I look forward to working with Matt every year on a scheduled basis. read more

Matt is very conscientious and careful in his work. His prices are fair and his work is thorough. He installed a chimney liner for us and I'm having him back this year to do a sweep and repair/replace the gasket on the wood stove. I would highly recommend Matt for any chimney/wood stove work. read more

Matt was great to work with! Setting up an appointment was quick and easy. He came when he said he would and efficiently checked our fireplaces and chimneys. He answered all of our questions and explained things knowledgeably and honestly. He was extremely fairly priced. I would highly recommend Matt and Hearthstone Chimney. read more

As someone else wrote, 5 stars isn't enough for Matt. He is an excellent business person who comes when he says he is and completes the job. He should conduct seminars in how to treat customers fairly -- he's that good. read more

Matt is great to work with, detail oriented, fairly priced and does great work! He repaired a small retaining wall and extended it by almost 40' on our new house. All of our neighbors have come up to us saying how great a job he did! read more

Hearthstone Chimney was the third contractor we had look at our chimney and I'm so glad I listened to the reviews and waited to have Matt from Hearthstone come out and take a look. We had a throat damper that was jammed and the handle snapped off. The two other contractors said they couldn't fix it. We'd have to do the expensive route and install a top damper. In addition, another contractor --Nicholas Chimney -- wanted to charge $200 just to do a "service call" to give me a quote. In the end, Matt came and said it was an easy repair with hardly any cost. While he was here he swept the chimney, inspected it and put sealant on the crown to prevent future problems there. Grand total for nearly 90 mins here doing all that was only $400. In addition he answered the myriad of questions I had about new fireplace doors and installation. Matt is a stand up, honest broker and takes great pride in his work. He's one of the rare contractors I've met for those reasons. I HIGHLY recommend Hearthstone Chimney for any chimney or masonry work. read more
