First Choice Chimney Service was wonderful to work with! Our house was having chimney/wood stove…read moreair flow problems and we hired Michael to add an outside air intake. This was to improve efficiency and heat output by helping our older wood stove achieve optional combustion temperatures. We also wanted to avoid an issue where soot had blasted through any crevice in the stove twice when oxygen level shifted quickly (at least that is what I think was the issue; I am no expert). This outside air intake would also help oxygen not be depleted in the room. It was an unusual request to make because of the type of wood stove we have but we wanted to make the system more functional and Michael installed the intake. He did good work the first day but I wanted to comment on his helpfulness the second day he came over. After the install of the air intake, the downstairs of our house was very cold because outside air was streaming through those same crevices that soot got through. Michael came back quickly after we called to add special insulation where he could on the stove and around the pipe/tubing leading outside. He made sure everything was sealed extra well and also put in a sort of switch thing to open and close the tubing when needed. This cold air coming in was not Michael's fault; it was because of the kind of non-pedestal older wood stove we have. I don't think any of us realized how many crevices there were that air would seep through. We are grateful that Michael came back to do these extra steps and fix our system at no extra charge. It was obvious he wanted to make sure we were happy with the work overall, and we are. We would hire him again and probably will if we have future issues or want to install a new stove one day!

I cannot recommend First Response Chimney Stove and Fireplace enough!! I had an existing fire place…read morethat was not cutting it with heating my house. My heat pumps were constantly running, driving my electric bill up like crazy. I purchase a brand new Hearthstone Heritage wood stove from First Response. The install was seamless. They showed up on time, made sure to move anything that would be dirtied or damaged in the process and even laid down mats to protect my hardwood floors. The workers themselves were professional and presented themselves as such. They went above and beyond to make sure the linear I purchased was insulated and securely fastened. I know I can sleep well at night knowing my family is safe and warm now!! Thank you First Response!!!

They were supposed to clean our chimney. We also paid for an inspection…read more Once on the roof, they tried to upsell us for $10,000 to add a chimney liner, which we could do ourselves for a few hundred dollars in materials. They said that they would not clean the chimney unless we agreed to pay for the other services. This is an illegal practice called a tying agreement. It is apparent that the business owner has no business nor legal education or experience. Reportedly being a firefighter is all well and good, but does not compensate for a lack of ethics. Their modus operandi is to upsell and follow up requesting favorable reviews, again and again. The experience was disappointing and a waste of time. A competitor cleaned the chimney for $175. without any contingencies. We bought the liner on Amazon and installed it in about an hour.

Called to schedule a chimney inspection during the winter months. Had to wait for an appointment,…read morebut it was worth the wait. Jonathan thoroughly inspected and cleaned our fireplace chimney, he even got onto our roof to look from the outside! We will be doing some repair work and will contract Blue Ridge to do the work. Jonathan was very honest regarding the scope of work that needs done and the cost of service has been very reasonable. Not only do I recommend this company because they are a small business, I recommend them because they are an excellent company and a pleasure to do business with.

In June 2020 we contracted with Blue Ridge Chimney Services to reinstall a wood-burning fireplace…read moreinsert and chimney liner at our home in Winchester. The work was necessary because of the shoddy and, frankly, dangerous installation and chimney work that had been done by 1Elite Chimney LLC, a local chimney service that sold us the unit and was completely unresponsive to our repeated calls for follow-up service because they did not complete the job, the stove was not working properly and the chimney cap they had installed blew off our roof during a minor windstorm. We decided to go with Blue Ridge Chimney after a confidence-inspiring visit by Steven Slabaugh, the technician they sent at our request to evaluate the situation. On the morning of June 29, 2020, two young men from Blue Ridge Chimney, Chris Guy Jr. and Chris Smith, drove here from Harrisonburg and arrived a little after 9 am. After a quick review of our situation, they went to work. They were here until after 8 pm, working the entire time with only a short break for lunch. Their concern for our situation was evident, as was their professionalism, energy and competence. They were also friendly and engaging, and at each stage of the process they explained the problems and the work that needed to be done to fix them. I waited 9 months to write this review because the work was done in June 2020, and we did not begin using the stove and chimney until November 2020. We used it consistently until last week (March 12). The heating season is over now and the insert worked perfectly. We are very happy in general with all the dealings we have had with Blue Ridge Chimney Services, and in particular with the competent work of Chris Guy Jr. and Chris Smith. We intend to use Blue Ridge Chimney for all our future stove and chimney related work.
