He inspected and performed basic maintenance on our two direct-vent gas fireplaces, including cleaning of the logs & firebox and replacing the ember material. One of the fireplace boxes had some exposed metal where the black paint had worn off in a few areas - so he even went ahead and spray-painted those areas since I had a can of 1200-degree high-heat resistant black spray paint on hand. Overall, I felt that Shawn was one of those good honest professionals you can trust to do the job right and for a reasonable price. He even gives a military discount which was nice. Instead my logs keep cutting in and out. The problem is that I get work done off season. So by the time I use the fireplace, I'm outside their warranty. Today I emailed them to see what could be done to solve my problems and was told that parts are hard to come by due to the age of the logs, and that a new valve assembly would be $1,000. Jumped on the internet and found the valve readily available at less than $200. So, don't confuse friendly with effective. Everyone in the company is super nice, but I have spent roughly $1000 with this company and still have the same problem. Oh, and I did tell the installer last time right after he replaced the valve that it had cut out, and he said it was probably because it was new. I am not going to use them again.

Dan made a trip to our house to assess the exact insert and provided us with lots of tips. We immediately placed the order for the Regency Gi33LE the first week in November, with Stewart for the new gas insert inside our current wood burning fireplace. Much to our surprise, they were able to squeeze us into their schedule to have it installed before Thanksgiving! Dan and his crew professionally installed a new gas line/pipe and dedicated electric circuit inside our house for the new insert and arranged with the Town inspector to obtain permits and inspection. All went exceptionally well. Dan is incredibly knowledgeable about home construction and the gas fireplace products and business. On a scale of 1-10, I rate him a 10 on customer service. With the snowstorm on Jan. 25, 2026, we tested the manual turn on using batteries in case the power goes out. After the test, the fireplace would not turn back on, so I emailed him on a Sunday morning to see if there was a trouble shoot for this problem. Immediately, he phoned me, and within 5-10 minutes, we started the fireplace with his over the phone directions!! Wow, we were so pleasantly surprised and very much appreciative of his support!! We thoroughly enjoy our new highly functional and esthetic gas fireplace insert and the heat that warms our rooms. We shopped at a couple of local places, and we found NOVA Fireplace and Stove the most helpful for understanding the process, options, and prices. We were having issues with drainage and our yard was slowly tilting off into a gully that runs behind our property. Vinnie spoke to us about how to solve that problem and our vision for the yard. He came back about a week later with a drawn out plan that added two low retaining walls that were designed to be functional and attractive to our neighbor's view. Each wall has planting beds above and below to allow plants to soften the walls. Large rocks were installed at one end of the long yard to create interest, a seating area, and a flower garden. A beautiful stone wall was constructed along the path that leads from the front yard around the side of the house to the back. Underground drainage was put in to carry water away from the house and prevent any future erosion issues. Finished project is getting rave reviews. The stacked stone wall, small waterfall project he did for us 15 years ago at our other house still works and looks great. Some bottom lines: 1) this work isn't real cheap, but it increases the enjoyment of your house while you live there and the value when you sell. They are reasonably priced. 2) Vinnie is easy to work with, he's flexible and can adjust the plan if something doesn't look the way you want, 3) he is creative and has a good eye and good ideas that worked with our ideas to end up with a better finished product.

Nearly 20 years of specializing in gas and fireplaces. I'm good at it and I love what I do. You can't be the best without enjoying something. I may not be the best in the country, but I've learned from the best. I worked for and trained with Washington Gas and some of their now retirees. I know nearly every aspect of construction: electrical, framing, carpentry, masonry, tile, remodels... There's not a lot I can't do. I fix my cars, I fix my house; a jack of all trades. I don't call anyone to do what I can unless I'm simply too busy fixing things for others. If I can't fix it, I probably know someone who does. The best advise I can give to anyone: Always find a specialist. Someone who does a particular trade all day everyday. I've done HVAC, but I would never claim to be the best man to put in your A/C after doing it only a few years simply to make a quick buck! Sure most plumbers can run a gas line, but they don't do gas everyday. They can't handle unforeseen problems, like on the spot manufacturer repairs or design kinks, that someone with the experience and knowledge can. Just because an inspector took an 8 hour course and passed your final inspection doesn't mean the job was done right either. Use a professional. read more

Bryan just installed a set of gas logs for us. The experience was so positive that I wish we had another fireplace so we could ask him to do another job. I contacted him for the first time via email on a Saturday morning. He responded within half an hour. We exchanged emails in which I asked and he answered several questions. No sales tactics. No BS. We scheduled a time for him to come out and inspect our home so he could give us an estimate. He knew all the ins and outs of running the gas line (he's a master gas fitter) and installing the fireplace. He also knew what size gas logs to used just from glancing at our fireplace. (I gave the actual measurements to one of his competitors and they came up with a recommendation for logs that wouldn't fit.) He gave us a price that was fully $2000 less then the company that was our second choice. Same logs. Same warranty. But terrific service at a better price. What's not to like? The bottom line is that Bryan showed up on time for every appointment. He did what he said he was going to do. He did it at a great price. And the quality of his workmanship was superb. This review, and my recommendation, has everything to do with the repairman/owner, Brian. I'm sure you can find any company to do similar work (repaired a part on my gas fireplace that prevented it from staying lit) but great customer service is very hard to find. Due to an upcoming sale of my house, I needed the fireplace fixed the same day or next. I had called several other companies that were closer with no luck. They were booked due to the short notice. Nova Fire Design was booked too, but explaining my situation Brian was willing to make an exception and schedule me the next day for just a bit of an extra charge. That sort of going above and beyond is what will keep us going back to him. As well, we have given his contact information to all the residents in our condo, so hopefully his willingness to help us will pay some karmic dividends. Aside from his customer service, he was very punctual, polite, efficient (came with everything he'd need to fix any problem) and competitively priced. Highly recommend! read more

This was an all-round positive experience. Bryan came out with an assistant and they worked quickly and efficiently to perform seasonal maintenance on my gas log set. The cleaned each log, tidied up the embers, and verified that the electronic valve, wiring, pilot light and remote control were all in good working order. They used a drop-cloth around the hearth to keep things neat. They cleaned up nicely when they were done and took a few moments to explain their work. In all, they delivered great service at a reasonable price. I highly recommend Nova Fire Design and expect to use them again in the future. 5 stars! read more

Once in a while you run into a contractor experience that you wished mirrored all other experiences. My experience with Bryan and this outfit was exemplary. I had to contact him late for an unrelated problem (to the original) and he replied immediately and was out the next morning. Although he spent almost two hours and did additional work unrelated to the original fireplace, when I was ready to hand over payment, he gave me a compreshensive invoice with N/C on it. They provided thorough photographs and explanations of everything they found. Their pricing was competitive with other quotes in the area (and better than one or two popular companies whose name I won't mention but whose quotes were unjustifiably higher). We ended up using a different company for the work but that was mostly because they had availability a little sooner and a comparable quote; it was not a reflection at all on Winston. If I ever broke up with my current company Winston would likely be my first call.

He inspected and performed basic maintenance on our two direct-vent gas fireplaces, including cleaning of the logs & firebox and replacing the ember material. One of the fireplace boxes had some exposed metal where the black paint had worn off in a few areas - so he even went ahead and spray-painted those areas since I had a can of 1200-degree high-heat resistant black spray paint on hand. Overall, I felt that Shawn was one of those good honest professionals you can trust to do the job right and for a reasonable price. He even gives a military discount which was nice. I will definitely call Shawn for my gas fireplace servicing in the future. Highly recommend!

I am personally convinced from the photos that my dogs shed every last piece of hair before their bedding is washed and dried. After servicing it, they failed to put the logs back correctly and left the flue closed. Within hours, soot blew throughout our entire house. Black soot covered walls, ceilings, upholstery, linens, and furniture in nearly every room. The damage was catastrophic. We had to go through our homeowners insurance because the cleanup costs exceeded $60,000. The restoration required professional soot remediation, sealing and repainting walls, cleaning all upholstery and fabrics, and extensive cleaning throughout the entire home. What made this even worse was the company's response afterward. They would not provide the business owner's information or their business insurance information, and they took absolutely no responsibility for the damage caused by their work. We were left to handle the nightmare ourselves.
