I just saw the Charlotte Ballet's Nutcracker here. WOW! The theater is clean and easy to get to. They serve beer, wine, soda, water and cocktails for resasonable prices. And you can bring it in the theater. We had seats on the orchestra level far left and had a great view of the stage. They had plenty of bathrooms for intermission and even had ushers in the ladies room to help keep things moving (help you find an open stall). We did valet park at a restaurant across the street because we had dinner before. (Check out Capital Grill). Then when we left. There was a street band playing right outside. We watched Shen Yun in this theater over the weekend. My first impression of the theater was good. The location beside the BofA building and all the connecting hallways that lead you to restaurants and shops where good. But after entering the theater at the orchestra level. We felt the decir and overall design is very dated and pedestrian. Every city has a good or great theater fir performing arts, this one doesnt fall in that category. Maybe a future renovation needs to happen now. read more

Having now been to a handful of shows here (most recently the touring version of Young Frankenstein), I am impressed with both the facility and the execution of service from all the house staff. It makes an evening of arts and culture just that much nicer to enjoy. The facility, adjacent and accessible from Founders Hall, is (relatively) new and sparkling throughout. The lobby spaces are very open and offer a number of modern chairs and benches to provide seating to patrons. A wide spiral staircase connects you to your level of seats and each level has a concession bar offering beer, wine, spirits, water, and a few snacks. Prices are a little steep, but not so bad as at your typical movieplex. Bonus tip: you can pre-order and pay for a drink during intermission. When you walk out, there is a side table with your drink and order slip waiting for you. So convenient and easy, as your time waiting in line is all but eliminated. I also think the seating inside the theater is very good, from most all levels. If anything, the Orchestra seats may be close to the stage but require angling your neck up to see the action. The seats in both the grand tier and mezzanine levels allow you to look down on the action but do offer unobstructed views. The staff, located in the mint green jackets, are literally everywhere and available to help you find the most convenient door and path to your seats. If you ever have a problem with patrons around you, a discreet word to an usher will quickly remedy the issue. Bonus tip 2: they also sell parking passes for $5 before, during, and after the show. There are 4 decks near the BPAC that accept the coupons. The staff will check your parking ticket to make sure you parked in a qualifying deck and will then sell you a $5 ticket to get out after the show is over. I can't say how helpful this is- you just feed the coupon into the gate and off you go- no digging for cash or waiting for a credit card receipt to slow you down. Bravo to this facility and their staff- they make a nice evening out just that much more enjoyable. read more

It's a good place to see a show, but the venue fees area bit ridiculous. Recently bought two season tickets to the Broadway Lights Series that showed a list price of $371 each, but after ticket handling fees, venue fees, and sales tax, the actual price was $462.50. That's an astronomical 25% markup on the cost. I'd much rather the Blumenthal be much more transparent in its pricing and show all those fees in the marketed cost of tickets. read more

I love the main theater here. It's very trendy and pretty inside. I am awed by all the lights and shiny stuff. Yes I am an easy person to keep entertained. Having been here twice I would say the performances here are usually quite popular and well done. My wonderful yelper Leanne C. presented me with a ticket to see Ira Glass the first time here. He is just as fascinating to listen to in real life as he is on This American Life. The second time I went to a showing of "You say tomato, I say shut up" and it was set on one of the smaller stages. The production was still very well done. The neatest thing about this place is that there are speakers and tvs everywhere so you don't have to miss much if you can't wait for intermissions. This kind of surprised me when I was going to the bathroom my first time and I was wondering why I could hear the performance while peeing and thinking to myself man that's some crummy soundproofing. This place is cool, the performances are great, I love how helpful the staff here is. Also you can get parking validated for $5, it's nice because the parking lots are super close to the building but leaving after a show takes quite a long time. This place fills up my need for art and creativity in my life. So I'll be back to gawk at the pretty lights and lounge in a nice seat and enjoy a show here ASAP. read more

(for the Booth Theater Space) Great space! Intimate and very clean (including restrooms) Lots of leg room! Great Tech (sound / lights) I saw "first date" in the booth theater, top notch production! I loved how they offer last minute tickets (with discount -not just for students!) for same day sales, which was great for someone like me traveling through town and unsure about the production or theatrical company quality. Only downsides were: -Not sure how "local" the theater was, seems like the Tech elements were locally based (including local features on the set), but the "talent" seemed to be mostly from NYC (other than the great audience members who were seated onstage). -On the web site it says last minute tickets are available, all day same day, all box office hours, but in reality they are only offered after 6, and you need to get in line, despite having open and ready ticket sellers before the 6pm hour. -The booth theater was a little hard to find, better signs would help (its inside the office building on the second floor to the right of the box office / main theater - look for the "food court") read more

I've seen several shows and have always enjoyed this venue. Here is the breakdown of the 5 stars given... 1 star for Location- Smack dab in the middle of uptown- an easy walk from my apt. A lot of restaurants are right there so it makes dinner and a show a convenient thing to do. 1 star for Staff- Super friendly and helpful. Whether It's where is the will call line? or where is the ladies room? You'll always receive a polite response. 1 star for Ladies Rooms- I have waited before- but never long. I also like that they have tv's situated everywhere so you don't miss any part of the show if you cannot wait for intermission. 1 star for Seat comfort- Roomy enough for me- miles above Ovens arena in my opinion. 1 star Productions- They have great productions and always have a few each year on the line-up that are must-see's! This place is pretty but very confusing. It took us a while to find our way to the entrance. But it was well laid out inside and the women's bathroom was incredible! The ushers were able to get all of those people in and out in no time! Obviously the best part was the show, I mean any theater with Alton brown is extra amazing. read more

Just moved to Charlotte in September '15 and just went to see "Book of Mormon" this past week. So impressed with this theater! It is really a world class facility and will be coming again. The theater itself is beautiful and modern. Staff is wonderful. Seats are comfortable and accoustics are great. We were in the grand tier (2nd level) and the sight lines and sound were perfect. Park in Bank of America or 7th Street Station lots for only $5 with coupons sold in the lobby! Great deal (especially when there is a competing event at Time Warner Arena and most of the lots are charging $10-20). read more

Went to see Motown the Musical. Awesome! Wish it had been longer. The parking was good, the ladies who run the restrooms were on the ball at intermission, the ushers on their game. We had great seats and a wonderful evening. read more

I've been to several shows in the Belk theater. Not once have I had a bad seat. I love the location and it's proximity to parking and restaurants. It makes for a great girls night out. All of the staff are very nice and willing to help. The theater can be hot at times, but the staff is usually very aware and will turn on extra ac if it gets too warm for the majority. Also the staff does a fantastic job at intermission with the ladies bathroom. They usually have 2-3 attendants pointing where to go and which stall is unoccupied. It makes the line go very quick, which I am appreciative. I like that they have drinks and snacks available to buy. $7 for a single pour mixed drink $10 for a double. You can have your drinks in the theater but no food. With all of this being said, and of the around 10 shows I have been to I have never had a problem... until Rock of Ages last Friday. There was an obnoxious group of drunk people who would not stop talking and singing louder than the actors. At one point yelling a profanity so loud (from the Mezzanine section) the actor looked up at her. After about 10 minutes I pulled aside the door person looking over the section to make sure people didn't have phones or food and asked her to say something. These people were on the end of the row literally right in front of her so I thought she would say something before I asked her. She told me she would go to her supervisor to ask him to say something. Totally cool, you only have so much authority. So we waited... and waited and listened to these people ruin the show. Nobody said a word. Not. One. I watched other employees come in and stare at them. I watched other people around get upset their experience was being ruined. And I watched the drunk group go in and out and get more and more drinks, apparently nobody stopped serving them. This was totally unacceptable. The staff did nothing and said nothing. Continued to serve these people, and watched idly as they dumped at least 4 drinks all over the floor. Sad, that I will have to rethink the next time I come to the Belk Theater. read more

I got the chance to see the Nutcracker over the holidays at Blumenthal. It was my first time there and I had a good time. There is a lot of open space in the lobby with a little bar to the left of the ticket windows. The center is very clean and they have some cool nordic looking wall paper in a strange minty green blue color. A lot of shows and plays seem to come through here. Garage parking is validated in the lobby, so don't pay to park in a lot beforehand! On the bottom level the water fountains are hidden in a corner but they are there! read more

The customer service here is non-existent. There is no attempt at an apology for canceling WICKED. I understand canceling the show, but then they attempted to exchange our tickets for the back corner from our great tickets center stage. While looking online for seats that were still available, there were other seats that, while not ideal, were better than what was offered. All of this came with a very cold, cut and dry reply which had the feel of, "We're the Blumenthal, and it sucks to be you." (Avenue Q reference, but oh well) read more

I ordered a couple of tickets to see Aladdin for my daughters birthday. We don't live together so I had them set to be delivered to her at her mothers house. Unfortunately they didn't arrive when they were supposed to, or the next day, or the day after that. 3 weeks went by and at this point I just look like a terrible father who forgot her birthday, especially in her mother's eyes. I called the theater to check on the status of my tickets and they told me they had been printed out and they were still sitting there in the office because they simply forgot to send them. So now I look like a jerk because someone forgot to send the tickets I purchased. read more

I have been a season ticket holder for several years. About 10 days ago, I sent a question about why, my first year I was in the first 5 rows and this year, at the same price bracket, we are upstairs. After no response I sent a follow up and explained I needed an answer before renewing. Still nothing. Terrible customer service for a regular season ticket holder. I'm done. read more

I've loved every venue under their umbrella i.e. Booth Playhouse, Belk Theater, Knight Theater, and Spirit Square. The shows are great and you can find some deals if you visit their website. I've never had a bad time at one of their performances. I did not have a good experience volunteering for them though but this is about Arts & Entertainment. read more

Last night was the pinnacle of our experiences with the Blumenthal Performing Arts. Something Rotten was simply perfect! Meeting the cast was a historic high for our group, and we couldn't have been treated any kinder by the Belk Theater staff. The theater is beautiful, as always. My only real complaint would be the outdated seats. They are miserably uncomfortable! A good show makes you forget the misery, but after the show it is so noticeable! A renovation may need to be in the works in the future, but other than that, a wonderful night with a wonderful show and wonderful people! read more

Below is the email I sent to Knight Theater on December 14, 2015 regarding the horrific experience we had dealing with a wheelchair bound person and the parking situation at Knight Theater. My disappointment comes in the fact that to date I have not received ANY response from Blumenthal. I am very disappointed in handicap accessibility situation at your facility and parking garage. My mother is in a wheelchair and requires the use of a ramp to enter and exit her vehicle. Security would not allow us to drop her off in front of the theater while we parked, so we had to enter a parking garage which had NO handicap parking (at least none were seen down to level P3). We ended up blocking traffic entering the garage in order to have her exit the van and wait as close to the wall as she could in order to be out of traffic while we parked. To further add to the drama, the parking garage has virtually no signage! We had no idea how to get her to the elevators. There was no signage and every walkway to the elevators required you to go through parked cars or was blocked by parking curbs. It was with extreme difficulty that we were finally able to get her to the theater. It was very upsetting to her, as she already feels like a burden in her chair and this simply added to that. While I love Charlotte's art society and attend events on a regular basis, I was very disappointed and frustrated by this experience. When I lived in NJ, as a birthday gift to myself (late August), I would purchase a number of season tickets to the many theaters in around the area, including NJPAC in Newark,The Signature Theatre in NYC, Crossroads Theater in New Brunswick, to name a few. When we relocated to Charlotte, I intended to continue this tradition. So yesterday, a friend accompanied me to the Blumenthal Theater complex to make some purchases to select shows. I had already researched the diverse performances I wanted to attend, and David who was the front desk ticket agent could not have made this process easier. He was not only professional and knowledgeable, but also very patient and polite. I ask a lot of questions, and am very particular about where I sit for each show. He allowed me the time to look and compare seats,dates and prices. He never rushed me and never appeared impatient. In the end I purchased tickets to a variety of shows beginning in September and ending in February 2019 (I am a Pink Martini Groupie). I had already previously bought tickets to Lion King, and even as I have seen the show multiple times in NYC (one of my former students was the young Simba, for quite a while) I have never seen the show in Charlotte...I look forward to it one more time. Located in the center of uptown Charlotte, this is a complex of theaters. The Belk is the largest of the theaters; usually the place where touring Broadway shows are performed. Lovely spaces. Received excellent customer service throughout the experience -- from ticket buying (informed box office staff always helpful) to the prompt bartenders (quick, polite, cheerful and they don't skimp on the serving!). Sat in the right orchestra section, good view of the stage, decent spacing between rows. The plaza outside of the complex was buzzing with folks before and after the performance. Plenty of restaurants in adjacent blocks to make it a night out on the town. read more
