Color me impressed. This place oozes charm and history. The stained glass windows and the red velvet seats (although a bit worn here and there) really set a welcoming atmosphere. The best part is the size - small and intimate which really makes for an incredible live entertainment experience. There really isn't a bad seat in the whole place! We had third row seats to a comedy show (only $27 each) and I spent the first 10 minutes star struck at how close we were! Add to that - craft beer, wine and snacks in the lobby that you can bring into the theater with you. $5 parking exit passes sold in the lobby and plenty of helpful ushers to get you to your seats. Can't wait to see a concert here!!

Went to this theater last Friday to see Cruel Intentions: The 90's Musical. First off, if this show comes back, RUN...do not walk to get tickets! The music, timing, cast, and satire was utter amazing and made for a great girls night out! The theater used to be an old church and they did a beautiful job of preserving the gorgeous stained glass windows. It is a very intimate area, best for small shows. Far stage right/left can lead to obstructive views, but overall there isn't a bad seat. There are two sets of restrooms which make intermission bathroom breaks quick. The bar is centrally located outside the theater. They offer a wide mix of wine/beer/bubbly/liquor and small snacks. Also offered is a double pour of wine/bubbles/liquor if you want it! REMEMBER TO PRE-ORDER FOR INTERMISSION and avoid the drink lines!

Went to open mic night and loved it. An inspirational event. Showcased what amazing talent we have here in the Charlotte area. We saw dancing, multiple singers from all ages, poets, and musicians just to name a few. This event is free to attend and highly recommend checking one out. Great venue for intimate performances.

This is a great little theatre. I have been to several theaters here in Charlotte and this is very similar to most. It has a great reception area for a drink before the show. I think this waste first time sitting in the balcony. I was on the right side and there were definitely parts of the stage I couldn't see. But over all it was a great experience. The parking lot near the theatre was full so we parked at the 7th street station which was only $5 because no other events were going on. It was only a block away.

Beautiful theater!

Wow...what a gem i've missed. I've been in Charlotte for years, but never realized this place was here. We stumbled upon this place and the Marc Cohn concert by accident. It was fantastic. This is a relatively intimate setting. We were 3 rows from the stage, and felt as though we could reach out and touch the performers. The acoustics here are also outstanding. I expect any seat in this theater will work nicely. Its also beautiful inside with stained glass windows. They also serve beer, wine, and alcoholic drinks before the show and at intermission. Not sure if you an bring this into the theater or not. Excellent venue.

Ask the Community - McGlohon Theater

Can anyone tell me if there are ramps for the handicapped to enter the building? Thanks.

Yes. There are ramps in the front from Tryon Street and from rear parking lot on College Street.

We've been here a few times for various concerts-performances over the years...most recently, for…read moreKing Crimson and Beethoven Symphony #5...and I've been meaning to write a review, so here goes. First of all, I really like this theater. Of course it's not as big as Blumenthal (Belk), but I love the size of this theater. Due to its size, you always get a good view of the stage wherever you sit (especially referring to the rows downstairs). Also, it's a really nice, clean theater (think renovated recently...but I could be wrong). One thing that could use some improvement is the spacing between the rows of seats. It's so tight, it's truly hard to get past folks in the same row...say, if you arrive a bit late, or is trying to get out! I also noticed that for the last visit, there were some chairs out in the lobby...Yay to that! Lastly, I also like the acoustics at this theater. Everything seems to be on point However, there are a few things that I found a bit offputting. For this last performance, they didn't 't allow any photography now (even without flash?)...which I don't quite get. I DID manage to take a few pics, but before the show started. Good thing...'cuz I didn't realize it was forbidden. Maybe I didn't know any better, but I recall taking pics during the performances in the past. Maybe it's a new policy...or maybe it depends on the performance?? Last thing I wanted to mention was that after the show, there's this sense that they want us out quickly...as in pronto! I don't understand why the place can't be more hospitable, and stay open for at least 30 minutes after the concert...so folks can chat, drink, etc.etc. I mean, it was Saturday night...and really not that late either! On this last concert (Beethoven Symphony #5), they sort of bum-rushed us out by 9:45 pm (concert ended at around 9:30 pm)...and I was basically the last person inside...Why? I was waiting for my husband to pick me up in the car, and I didn't want to stand outside in the cold. Well, at 9:45 pm, I noticed that I was the last one in the place, and the ushers were sort of giving me the eye...basically bum-rushing me out! WOW. I don't recall that happening at any other late-night venue in town...where folks are encouraged to leave only 10-15 minutes, following a concert. So anyway, that's my take on the place. 5 stars for the space, cleanliness and acoustics...but 2 stars for service (not sure how I'd describe this rushing folks out part lol!). Since I'm a fan of this theater, I'll still drop 4 stars...but just wanted to mention that I'm NOT a fan of the near-rude service after the performance.

The ambiance early in the evening is relaxed outdoor seating needs to update the benches they're not comfortable and the woods starting to warp but, decent music, and a solid cocktail menu. It's the kind of place where you can actually hear your conversation and enjoy the atmosphere without feeling rushed or overwhelmed. However, as the night progresses and the vibe shifts into more of a "clubby" scene which ended up being a perfect combo but let's talk charges.. feels steep for what's essentially a modest venue without standout features. Drink prices were high like the cover but not in a way that reflects upgraded quality or service. For the area, there are other spots offering more for the same price or even less but with cozy comforts and inside seating, nicer facilities so it's easy to find things not to love if you come here to support a DJ friend like I did than pay the cover and mingle. It's not a bad place by any means, and the early lounge experience is definitely a highlight followed up with the banging DJ club scene after...it's just the paying premium rates for a relatively average experience for me.
