Gorgeous theater with no bad seats in the house! We were lucky to get Orchestra seats to see Les Mis, and the venue is always stunning. This is one of my frequented musicals, so I sat toward the back of the Orchestra, and the seats were still fantastic. The drinks and snacks are always pricier here, but that's the cost of going to the theater. Speaking of pricy, parking is hard in Uptown so I highly recommend taking an Uber or Lyft here, it made our night way easier. We had a beautiful night, I can't wait for our next show here! read more

Beautiful theater in Charlotte. We traveled here from Raleigh to see Avatar the Last Airbender. The acoustics were excellent and the employees were welcoming and helpful. The small size and horseshoe seating arrangement allows for great views from most areas of the theater. We sat in the orchestral section and would choose that same area again. I ordered the tickets online and it was very easy to select seats. Note that the seats are snug. We were packed in closely in small chairs. Don't be surprised if you touch shoulders with the people sitting to the left and right of you. Nonetheless it was still comfortable. The temperature, lighting, and volume were ideal. Use the restroom before the performance as you will be greeted with a very long line if you wait for intermission. Warning chimes are provided before the show starts at the beginning and as intermission is ending. These were so helpful and provided adequate time to find/return to your seats. Before leaving be sure to validate your parking. The theater offers a preferred parking rate of $10 at specific parking garages. The Bank of America Corporate Parking Garage is recommended for Belk Theater. Overall we had a great experience and I recommend this theater to others! read more

Entering was easy. There are stairs and elevators for those with adapted equipment. There are ushers everywhere to assist you with seating. They have multiple levels. I believe I saw a coat check and a purse check. You can purchase wine, water, soft drinks or snacks if you desire. The are multiple decks around the theater for parking. The restrooms are clean. This was my first visit. The performers were AMAZING! I came to see the Alvin Ailey dance performance. I'll come again!!! read more

We visited the Belk Theater for Hamilton. What a great venue! We have been lucky enough to see Hamilton a handful of times, including in Chicago. Belk was by far the nicest theater. First, we appreciated the spacious lobby areas. It was a chilly night in Charlotte and it was nice to be able to wait inside the building before the doors opened. We picked up our tickets at will call about an hour before showtime, which was about thirty minutes before the theater doors would open. There was space for a photo op in front of the Hamilton banner, which was staffed to take photos. So fun! There were several bars and concession stands available. Second, the sound quality in the theater was excellent. Best sound we've experienced for Hamilton yet. The seating was although thoughtfully planned to maximize the views. We had similar seats in Chicago and were actually too close to the stage to see what was happening at the back of the set. Belk Theater is such a nice venue--we'd happily make the drive to see future shows and events here. read more

I came to the Belk Theater to see MJ the musical and all I have to say is it was a perfect night! The theater was great very clean and the ushers and staff were all exceptional! Try to use the bathroom before or after intermission because their were ridiculously long lines during intermission for the men and women's bathrooms, but in their defense it was organized chaos and the lines moved very quickly! Now about the musical itself... it was excellent! It was so entertaining that everyone was dancing, singing, and moving in their seats to the beat. Souvenirs were a little pricey, but if you're a Michael Jackson fan, and $40 basic T-shirt may be worth it to you. read more

This should show as a re-review of a prior review. I enjoy visiting this venue whether it's for a theater performance, a jazz show, or a dance retail (Miss Donna's). There's not a bad seat in the house but I prefer the Pit area or Grand Tier. Since the ladies' restrooms were upgraded some year ago, there are no issues during intermission with long wait times. They did an awesome job of minimizing the issue. Other venues should take note. Drinks and snacks are available. Parking is now $10 in the Bank of America Parking Deck. Take your ticket in with you to get it stamped after you have paid at one of the kiosks located inside of the venue. Having attendants taking tickets after the event ends helps vehicles get out of the garage more smoothly. This, too, is awesome! read more

We recently went to see Rachmaninoff Symphony No. 2 at the Belk Theater...and first of all, the orchestra did an amazing job! Near flawless performance, and the conductor was quite entertaining as well. I was equally impressed with the opening acts, especially by this Pianist, Mari Kodama, for her performance in the Mendelssohn's Piano Concert No. 1 in G Minor. BRAVO!! As much as I appreciate the fantastic line-up and the stellar performances at this theater, I have to refrain from giving all 5 stars for the following reasons. Some of the shows, especially the classical concerts (which I love!), usually attract much older crowds. Given that, I'm a bit amazed that the place isn't senior-friendly. I say that because the lobby areas of this theatre are extremely uncomfortable...with just a few seats. Also, no rampways for the seniors that may be using wheelchairs...although there is a small, outdated-looking elevator. Aside from the expansion of the women's bathroom over the years, I don't see any renovations in their lackluster lobby areas. The lobby area can definitely use some color and/or decorations as well...as it's thoroughly bland. Same is true for the inside the theatre. While it's still an attractive theater with a great, big stage and nice, lofty booths, the main seating areas are quite ancient...with outdated teal-colored seats, with barely any cushioning (again, NOT senior-friendly)! I'm just surprised that there hasn't been any renovations in the seatings in the past several decades. So yeah, nice theatre...but extremely outdated and uncomfortable. Still, given how we loved going here for decades (and with plans to go some more!), I can't go lower than 4 stars. read more

The belk theater is always an enjoyable time but I am telling you Samara Joy is an amazing Jazz vocalist that uses her voice in some of the most dynamic ways that it will leave you in aweeeeeee. Now for parking....I wish the theater could get a relationship with Truist which is right across the street...it is nice parking at the BofA parking garage for 10.00 but it is a little bit further to walk and getting out of the garage is a challenge. read more

Fantastic time seeing the Wiz which is now on a national tour. They sold out Charlotte and are now in Atlanta. Highly recommend that if they are in your city, make an effort to see the show. Excellent singing by the cast. Folks were chair dancing, singing, and gave several stand ovations. The lead is just 24 years old but sings like she's been doing it forever. Side note: prodiction is produced by Kandi Buress! Wayne Brady is joining them in NYC in March 2024. Might have to Ease On Down The Road. New songs were added in addition to the original score and quite a few jokes that will make you smile. read more

It was our first time at the Belk theater, we went to see the Charlotte symphony during the Star Wars collaboration and the theater was absolutely beautiful it had multiple levels and a little snack portion where you can buy really affordable snacks you had an option from M&M candy and chips and also crackers for only a dollar I couldn't believe it! Ben invited me to see 'To Kill A Mockingbird' on a Thursday night. I enthusiastically accepted. It's been quite sometime since I've been to this theater, I believe it was 1998 when I saw The Phantom of the Opera. The big challenge here is access to the building. It's the Belk Theater INSIDE the Blumenthal Performing Arts Center. If you are driving, you should know that the theater will validate your parking at the Bank of America parking garage for Mon-Fri performances AFTER 5p for $5.00 Otherwise most other area garages will want $25.00 or more. My recommendation would be to Uber/Lyft or taxi there. Or drive & park at a near-by restaurant that offers parking validation. Allow adequate time for a leisurely meal and walk to the theater and reduce your stress of trying to make the curtain. The Theater itself is well organized as there are Staff that direct you into the entrance and to the correct line for either scan of your ticket on your phone or a different line for scan of hardcopy ticket. Once inside, you'll find there will be several lines for beverage and light snack purchase and bathrooms that flank either side of the room for appropriate gender. As you enter the Theater there will be Staff that direct you to your seats. The acoustics here are NOT great. We were maybe 15 rows from the stage in Orchestra center and a lot of the dialogue was missed because of tis and perhaps poor projection from the actors. I like that you can also enter/exit at areas close to the front of the stage on either side. I wore a button down collar shirt and khaki slacks. I saw other men in shorts and polo shirts. I did see just a handful of men in sports coats. Of course most of the ladies were in nice outfits and mostly dresses. read more

A quaint theatre that is host to terrific plays and musicals! My husband and I saw Waitress here and overall had a good experience. The seats aren't the most comfortable, but they were fine for the 3 hours we sat in them. There are no cup holders so you have to awkwardly put your drinks on the floor. Clean bathrooms. One stair case to get up to the second level, so it can definitely become congested at the end of your show. We utilized the BOA parking garage for $5 parking.. that was a disaster (as anticipated) when leaving the show.. but not the theatre's fault. read more

I purchased tickets a year in advance for a graduation gift, My original receipt said that the tickets would be emailed to me 7 days before the show. A couple days before the show they changed them to where I have to come on the day of the show within a 2 hour period to pick them up with my ID and the CC that I used. So I wasn't able to give the tickets at the graduation party. I was given a refund by check that was to be mailed to me lol. Luckily I went online and bought tickets from vivid seats and received the tickets immediately and they were way cheaper then through Belk. Please go online and find your tickets on the secondary market somewhere and save yourself the headache of talking to anyone there. They are incompetent and extremely unhelpful. read more

Went to see a performance here and the theater itself is a bit small but the attendees were helpful in finding seats and the seats chosen. If you choose orchestra are very close to the stage and I feel that really helped. Parking is not the best. I will say that and it is I believe $10 to park for a performance so just keep that in mind as well. read more

I attended the Nutcracker "Seasoned Rehearsal"....I am not yet "seasoned", but someone has to opt out at the last minute. It was great. For $13 it was well done...only thing that would make you think it was a rehearsal was the orchestra was not live. The performance never stopped. Great Christmas tradition to see the Nutcracker and an even better way to see it for less cost. read more

I cannot count the number of shows, plays and performances I've attended at this venue. My wife way more than me, too. Almost always it has been rewarding and worth the price of admission. My favorite? Mmmm. Andrea Bocelli with his February Romance Tour. Spectacular. No one left with dry eyes, either. So moving. However, James Taylor, Beth Hart, Kenny Wayne Shepard, Jersey Boys, Phantom of the Opera, Lion King, etc., all fantastic as the list is endlees. And the Belk folks pull it off without a (noticeable) hitch. My only gripe is the long lines for restrooms and beverages at intermission (plus the balcony seats are not all they seem as viewing is difficult, IMO). All in all Charlotte has a first-rate theatre right in the center of Uptown. Most shows are priced reasonably and paying up for the front rows is worth the up charge. Pick a show or artist and " give 'em whirl!" Enjoy your night out. PS: Head over to Capital Grille for a before curtain drink. They know how to handle your schedule with class and competence. read more

I've been to Belk numerous times for various touring Broadway productions that have rolled through town and it's a great, large venue that could use some improvements with the restroom situations on the higher floors. Yes, the bathrooms on the orchestra (bottom) level were recently re-done and done well, however, the bathrooms on the higher floors require renovation. I understand that there will be always be a line for the women but that's because we need more stalls! Enough about the bathrooms, if driving to the theater, you can park at the nearby Bank of America or 7th St Garages for a flat, $5 fee. Just be sure to pay for your parking ticket inside the theater! My personal favorite sections for seating are either the orchestra or grand tier. However, I've seen shows on all levels and haven't had a bad seat. The ushers at Belk are the best, simply put. read more

I love spending the evening here watching live performances. This is a larger theatre, I prefer the smaller, but the seats are great and the only bad one is the one behind the tallest person in the world (we all know what that's like). The staff is remarkable and the service is great. Everyone is very pleasant and helpful. The folks checking your tickets can get a tad bit over zealous and seem to rush you through scanning your tickets but they are awesome and efficient. Located in uptown Charlotte, this is an ideal spot to have dinner, then go to the show. My wife and I have been doing this for years and it's a great date night about once a month. A few secrets: 1) There is an app (search for Blumenthal) that allows you to order snacks and beverages before the show and for intermission. You can also pre order your drinks or snacks at the counter if you order anything before the show. 2) There are several parking garages that offer $5 parking but you have to pay for it in the theatre. Make sure you check which parking decks are part of the deal and make sure you bring your ticket into the theatre. Look for the little white table, usually set up on the main floor across from the coat check. 3) There is complimentary valet parking off College Street. If you know where Aria is, it's right around the corner from their main entrance. I usually tip $5-10 so it is the same cost as parking yourself. Sometimes, my car is waiting for me when I get out of the theatre. 4) I've heard, have not tried it personally, that Belk sells unsold tickets the day of the show for dirt cheap. I think you have to go in person and they start an hour or so before the start of the show. read more

I came here to watch Hamilton. I was impressed before I walked in the front door. The outside is grand. Getting my tickets was organized and simple. The staff is very helpful and kind. Upon entry the staff quickly peeked in our back and did a security check. A staff member pointed us in the direction of our seats. Several employees were taking photos in front of a Hamilton backdrop with your cell phones. Once we got to the waiting area outside of the actual theater there was plenty of room. The restrooms were very clean and spacious. They offered beverages, both alcoholic or nonalcoholic, and a few snacks. Once in the theater, our seats were very comfortable and spacious. I didn't feel like I was sitting on top of my neighbor. I could see the stage very well. I don't think there's a bad seat. During intermission the staff moved quickly to serve the drinks and snacks being sold. They seemed to care about everyone's special night. Even during the process of exiting the building everything was organized and positive. I can't wait to return for another production! read more

The only complaint is the density of seats between rows - knees hitting back of row in front. Parking access is plentiful and eateries / Gastropubs are adequate. My first visit to this venue, I saw Matthew Bourne's "Sleeping Beauty" (a 5 star performance itself). Our seats in the third row of the mezzanine level were excellent. After the show we checked out seats in different locations and didn't find any we preferred enough to justify paying more. The front rows of the grand tier were better, but the back rows I thought were worse than going higher but more forward where we were. Sitting in the orchestra level gives you a different, more head on perspective, but since the rows are not as pitched it would be possible to have your view blocked by someone taller sitting in front of you. For a dance concert, I might sit more to the front of the orchestra to get a better view of the costumes and facial expression, but anything where the music is important I would sit in the front of the grand tier or mezzanine (depending on what my budget allows). As a newer theater, the Belk does not have some of the elegant touches of an older theater, but it is very comfortable and functional. The seats are comfortable and there is ample leg room. At least on the men's side, there was no problem getting going to the bathroom during the intermission. I look forward to seeing more shows here. read more

I'm always so glad when I buy Broadway series tickets and they say "Belk Theater" on them instead of "Ovens Auditorium." The Belk Theater is where all Broadway-type performances should be held. Anything less is just a kick in the pants to the touring company. We're not going to see the Ice Capades, are we? Thought not. The center of the lobby of the Belk Theater is beautiful with the streaming lights hanging down the middle. It feels so elegant, despite not having to be superdressy in the theater. The windows on two of the three lobby levels allow you to look over Uptown Charlotte as you sip a drink or chat with friends or family. And the theater itself is always so clean. No sticky floors here. During this recent visit, I went with the "tip-top" seats because there was a buy-one-get-one-free deal and I've already seen "Chicago" twice before on stage, including once in London, not to mention the movie countless times. Although our seats were way, way up, we could hear every word clearly and still had a decent view of the stage. They stagger the height of the seats just right in the balcony so even looking downward, there are no heads in your way. I just have to remember to bring my binoculars to the theater one of these times. Darn you, memory! I give the Belk Theater only four stars because it could improve in: (1) the number of bathrooms to accommodate such large crowds, (2) the bar/lounge area and offerings, and (3) if you've ever been to the Fabulous Fox Theatre in Atlanta, you'd know what a 5-star theater was. read more

Attended the The Symphony on Tap at the Belk Theater last night. The Charlotte Symphony Preview party was an experience not to be missed if you are into the arts and culture. It was their first ever. There was an ensemble that greets as they play you a piece and then invites you into the theater. Belk has a beautiful auditorium. The seats are plush and comfortable. We sat in the last rows on the upper level and the views were spectacular as well as the acoustics. The conductor was very interactive with the audience and asked for participation with one of their pieces. Who said that classical music is boring? It is fun for the whole family. read more

We have been here several times over the years, and there are things I really like about this Theater and others that I don't care for. Most recently we went for a Kenny Loggins concert in April. I found the website to be less informative than I liked. I wasn't sure what seats to order and really wanted to talk to someone, but couldn't get through on the phone. Couldn't tell when the box office was actually open. I didn't want to wait for fear of tickets selling out, so I finally took my best guess and purchased second row of the Grand Tier. (which, by the way, were orchestra-seat priced). While the view wasn't bad, I didn't like that there was no other way to get into the first couple rows without doing so from the very end, so anyone sitting in the middle had to bother a lot of folks every time. Also disliked that there was ONE small one-person bathroom up there. You had to run downstairs in the middle of a show if necessary. But at least they have monitors in the lobbies, so you can hear what you are missing. read more

This is a really nice facility for seeing live performances. I attended Diavolo: Architecture in Motion. The show was beyond amazing. In terms of the amenities, there was plenty of space in the isles if you needed to get up for any reason. There was plenty of staff to help and show you around whether to your seat or bathrooms etc. There was also lots of food and drink options available before the show and during intermission. The reason I took a star away was 1) the was beyond freezing cold in the theater. I completely understand keeping it cooler due to the large amount of people in one room but that took it to a whole other level. My nose, ears and fingers felt like they were about to get frost bite. And 2) parking was an absolute nightmare. We couldn't find any parking closer than 2 1/2 blocks away (which in the grande scheme of things isn't a lot but in Charlotte it's terrible). Also it's crazy expensive. You'd expect that a theater that large and constantly busy would have plenty of parking and at the very least would validate it. read more

It's a beautiful theater! But paying extra for good seats is worth it. I was miserable in the upper deck. It was a sold out show and I got what I could get but it was hot as Hell the entire time. Everybody around us kept saying how hot it was. For 75 minutes I was dying a slow death. At least they sell drinks and snacks at concessions on each floor. As nice as the performances are I'm 6'4" and 240 pounds and those chairs are so narrow my elbows are already past the arm rests. So people sitting next to me were squished worse than on an economy class flight. My shoes touch the rail in front and every time someone goes to the bathroom or whatever I have to stand up. There's no twisting your knees to the side to let people through. My legs were so cramped they started shaking half way through the performance. I'll be back but only if I can spring for tickets on the main or 2nd levels (orchestra, mezzanine or the box seats on the sides). Upper levels 3 and 4 are a no fly zone. read more
