The food was okay. When we get the check, the waiter asked us "do you want to give 18% or 20% for the tips?" We were confused but we said 18%. He returned with a check and already written the 18% tips that was after tax. They didn't give us the chance to write it ourselves. They even charged for warm water. We asked for a second serving as well. Fish and chips were good (similar to what you would expect). Fish tacos were also tasty - fish was fresh, good portion, option of corn or flour tortilla. Tacos do come with a side of rice which I didn't realize! We regretted getting the side of asparagus - $10 for a plate of 5 pieces of asparagus, and they didn't take off enough at the stem so the bottom was very fibrous and chewy. Not worth it, imo. It is odd that they don't give you free tap water. You have to pay $1.5 for a little bottle of bottled water. Seems like a better setup to get tea or soda for $4.5 and free refills. read more

There was a lot of Christmas decorations like a tree and the restaurant just looked beautiful. In terms of food I got these items. Complimentary Bread & Butter - Good appetizer and we enjoyed it. Nothing special but it was good. (4/5) Gemilli Pasta with Shrimp & Scallops - Wow SO GOOD. It was creamy but not too crazy and the flavors just worked so well together. The potatoes were the best thing on the menu. Very rich and delicious. The steak and salmon were also good. The vegetables lacked flavor. We had a great experience at Bluewater Grill. We stopped by for lunch and were very impressed. To start, the service is fantastic. The employees are very friendly and attentive. Our server was awesome, he was really helpful and made some great recommendations. The vibe here is pretty relaxed, we were lucky enough to sit outside right by the water abs thankfully sat under the shade of an umbrella. As for the food, it was delicious. As soon as we were seated, we were brought some fresh sourdough and butter. For an appetizer, we have these seared scallops with a jalapeño sauce and they were absolutely delicious. My husband had the basket that had a mix of fried shrimp, scallops, and fish, while I had the fried shrimp. It was by BOMB. My husband also got scalloped potatoes and I was kicking myself for not getting some. We definitely plan on returning on our next trip to Catalina! read more

My wife tried the pinot grigio wine from Italy and it was superb! I had the Cucumber Mojito. So refreshing and delicious. For appetizers we got the spicy edamame which had a unique flavor, but didn't feel spicy enough for us, but we like spicy. We also tried the crab artichoke dip which was flavorful. You could really taste all the components of the dish so nicely done and well balanced. Service was up and down. Came here to celebrate my mom's birthday and it was such an amazing experience thanks to our waitress! We got seated right next to the ocean which was such a lovely view as the waves crashed near the shore. It wasn't too cold because there were heat lamps next to us. We ordered the following items: 1. Cioppino - 7/10 Very generous with seafood which is great for any seafood lovers. However I feel like the sauce is still just too tomato-ey and prefer some other seasonings. 2. Gemilli Pasta - 8/10 This was super delicious! The scallops and shrimp were seasoned well and not overcooked. The pasta sauce was also great, not too oily, and the parsley on top was chefs kiss. 3. Calamari Fritti - 6/10 This was a bit salty in my opinion but overall a decent appetizer. I like the two different sauces provided so there's more variety. 4. Fresh fish of the day - 10/10 This was really good. Fresh, smooth, and seasoned well. Not too salty but the risotto was a bit heavy. 5. Buffalo Milk - 8/10 This was interesting! Catalina Island is known for buffalo milk, which has a bit of vodka along with its banana milk. Honestly I liked this a bit more than I had expected but the vodka is a bit strong so beware. I had the chicken under a brick w/dirty rice. You can't cook chicken much better than they did. With one of the more perfectly crisped skin I've ever had. Throw that over dirty rice, enough said!! My wife got the Spanish paella...good lord!! You don't expect to get a good paella at any restaurant. It is a dish that has a lot of elements and takes a lot of specific preparation to do well. This paella was great. All the seafood was perfectly cooked (which is rare for paella anywhere) and the flavor was right on point, without being too much (which is a risk you run whenever you use saffron). On top of the awesome sourdough bread...and the very nice and on point staff...I can't give this place less than 5 stars. I'm SORRY!! A fairly rich place to eat that due to it being after season we had no problem with a walk up dinner without reservation. It does look very popular with the tourists and according to at least 2 local sources isn't a popular locals destination due to price. It is a mixed fine dooming experience with both inside and outside seating, with heaters. It is also on a dock so has great views of Avalon bay. The service was outstanding. I was amazed at how fast the food was delivered as well and our table kept clean if extraneous items and used dishes. The food was just ok when considering the price. The muscles were actually one of the best we have had with the sauce being phenomenal in lemony flavor. The rice was completely undercooked and was crunchy. The fish was all perfectly cooked. And the scalloped potatoes were terrific. Overall a great experience that I would likely do again. read more

It had good flavor but that's about it. The bread was old and dry, immediately fell apart after the first bite. Was too much lettuce, mostly the hard part of the lettuce. They all fell out. I ended up eating the whole burger with a fork and knife, but what a burger should be. The fries were very nice and crispy though. read more

After an early afternoon of touring the interior of the island, we were ready to sit outside and take in more of the beauty of the water while we had a bite to eat. We appreciated the sour dough bread to take the edge off our hunger while we decided on our meal. We chose the sea bass and swordfish, both local fish. Both meals were delicious and we would recommend. The rice with the swordfish was so good, I couldn't stop eating it. The blackened swordfish wasn't overly salty or spicy, and was very moist. The mojito made with local rum was incredibly refreshing and the perfect accompaniment to my meal! Our server was attentive, which was important as we didn't what to miss our ferry. Nice spot right on the water with a good sized menu and lots of drink options. We came here for some late afternoon drinks and apps and were pleasantly surprised just how easy it was to get a spot next to the ocean. For food we opted for the ahi tuna poke and crab cakes, and a cucumber mojito and the Catalina specialty buffalo milk to drink. Food portions were a little small, but perfect for this instance since we weren't wanting to fill up before dinner. " on-top" of things. I orders the lobster roll and gumbo . I have no complains with the dishes. The lobster roll was good and had a good amount of lobster in it. Lobster roll was basic but it tased good along with some fresh fries. The Gumbo was comforting and did have flavor and we were pleased with it. Our table was overlooking the sand and Avalon harbor so it was nice to eat outside and have a drink . It was a little chilly that day but they did have the patio heaters on. Came in right around noon, was seated right away with options overlooking the ocean or inside. I also had brought a long my dog during this outting. They even gave her a little treat bag! The staff was friendly and checked up on us pretty often throughout the meal. I ordered a Buffalo Milk and 1/2 dozen oysters to start, then a Seafood Louie Salad and a plate of their fish and chips. Today we had lunch a Bluewater Grill on Catalina Island. The service was great, staff is very accommodating. The bread they provide on the table is delicious and served hot with butter. The ambience is that of a seaside restaurant so it's beautiful. The only problem was that food literally had no seasoning. The burger was just beef and I had one bite and couldn't eat it. The same for the rack of ribs. I know you service so many people with different tastes, but a little seasoning just a little can go a long way. Came to Avalon for the weekend to celebrate a birthday, and came here for dinner. We sat outside, which was nice with a beautiful view but in late March a little chilly heaters helped keep us comfy. Overall it was a great experience. The service was great from start to finish, friendly and prompt without hovering. The food was good, I had the crispy fried tacos and shared calamari. The breading of the fish was crispy and light not overly greasy or heavy feeling, and the calamari was the same, nothing felt overly greasy or oily. Cocktails were classic and the flavors as you'd expect for an espresso martini and Aperol spritz, and finally their table bread.
