Large salad bowl with chicken
Owen C.

I remembered going here when it first opened years ago and I was able to eat there yesterday. It is so delicious and unique. Your own salad is specifically designed just for each and every detail you want. The servers are all wonderful and the food is all very good. It's a nice place to sit inside and have lunch with someone too. It's nice and clean and small.

Omigosh I found healthy and tasty food in Alabama! I was skeptical when a work trip brought me here. But I found Blueroot and it was fantastic. Plenty of healthy vegan or vegetarian options and mNy were gluten free. I went with the Santa Fe warm bowl, subbing tofu for chicken. The ingredients were fresh and tasty and it was a good sized portion for the price. Only downside was while the staff was friendly my particular food preparer had some difficulty listening. Other than that, all great!

How cute is this place?! Nestled in the heart of Pepper Place, Blueroot offers healthy, fresh meal options at a wallet friendly price. From overnights oats, to warm grain bowls, and a rice krispy treat you'll never forget...this place is a zero guilt option for people looking to get full but not over stuffed. I love the calm, cool colors in the decor. The hints of blue and big windows really make the place feel lively and make you wanna stay a while. The staff was super informative and seemed excited to help us explore the menu. My cob salad was delish! Look at how hearty the portions are Everything was super crisp and fresh and the flavors blended well together. We also tried the brownie, which had a rich, fudge like texture that made eating it easy. My fav thing on the menu is the rice crispy treat. The extra nuts and things inside take the flavors beyond sweet to special, plus it's pretty thick! I'm also a fan of the owner's story; taking a leap on her idea to bring thoughtfully healthy food to Bham. Can't wait to keep seeing this woman owned biz thrive.

The Santa Fe Bowl and Ginger Soup

The Blueroot is an amazing little vegan restaurant on 2nd Avenue south. The staff was really nice and quick with mine And my girlfriend's order. I had the Santa Fe bowl as is and she had the ginger soup, both of which were delicious. The music is also quite nice but they do not have much dining space. It is also really well kept and is surrounded by shops so it is an easy place to have a shopping lunch as it were. It also does not seem too bad of a place to study for a college student and that was a plus for us. I highly recommend giving The Blueroot a try.

Delicious. Fresh. Friendly staff. Cute decor. Great vibe. The Magic City salad is delicious. All the ingredients were fresh. The employee that made my salad was very friendly. She made a great mistake. She added chipotle vinaigrette. She offered to remake my salad, but I'm not adverse to a little spice. I told her to just add the BBQ vinaigrette as well. It was really delicious! The extra kick was a perfect mistake!

Blueroot catered an event at my office recently. The superfood snacks were good (especially the brownie), but that cold brew smoothie was so bitter it was hard to get down! I felt terrible for wasting such an expensive drink, but I honestly couldn't stomach it!

I had this place bookmarked as a place I wanted to try since their menu options looked so healthy and delicious. I was lucky enough to attend an event they happened to be catering so that was a nice surprise! I tasted their naked eggs with bacon, their overnight blueberry lemon oats, chia seed pudding, not your mama's rice crispy treat, and a collagen bliss bite. My favorite was the chia seed pudding although the not your mama's rice crispy treat was a close second. They have so many yummy looking choices here, that I will definitely be back!

Blueroot is a staple restaurant for me. I go there a few times a month and it is always fresh and tastes amazing. They have great vegetarian and vegan protein options including a beautiful beetroot hummus (see picture). Today, in addition to the hummus, I got the tamari glazed tofu which I have found goes well with lots of their salads/grain bowls. While the tofu is my favorite, I have never tried something I didn't like here. The employees clearly make an effort to be kind to everyone who comes in, and they get to know their regulars. The inside of the establishment is always bright and clean (in front and, importantly, behind the counter) and there is plenty of outdoor seating when the weather permits. Sometimes the food can be a bit pricey depending on your order/choice of protein, but for the quality you get in comparison to other salad restaurants I would say it's well worth it. If I had to change one thing about Blueroot it would be that they stay open later in the day!

Santa Fe bowl

Wow, Yelp! That was the best bowl I have had in ages! Blueroot is located in Pepper Place off of the parking lot where the main market is set up on Saturdays. The interior decor is beautiful! I would have taken a picture if there hadn't been so many people seated in front of the plant focal wall. The folks who work there were super friendly and helped me decide on the Santa Fe bowl. Such a zesty, spicy, fresh, crunchy, sweet, creamy delight! It had a base of quinoa and spring mix with sweet potatoes, roasted tomatoes, goat cheese, black beans, radish slices, and pumpkin seeds on top. And the dressing. THE DRESSING! It was a chipotle vinaigrette. It blew my mind - and the roof off of my mouth, because it was SPICY! Maybe a little hot for the average bear, but I loved it! The salad was generously-sized and could have made two small salads, but I ate mine whole as a meal. Blueroot also has plenty of proteins you can add to your bowls, but I elected not to. I love a restaurant where I can return and either try an old favorite or feel confident that if I pick something new, it will be delicious, and Blueroot is that for me!

Hummus toast with prosciutto with prebiotic soda raspberries. Fantastic!

Soups are available, too! All items are (shhh) healthy! Anyone wanting to eat clean should try Blueroot!

I went to BlueRoot Co at Pepper Place because they had a lot of gluten free, vegetarian, and vegan options. They had salads, warm grain bowls, toast, and burgers. I got the California Cobb with tofu! It was pretty good and it really filled me up. The ingredients were fresh, which I liked. It wasn't the best salad I have ever had, but I did enjoy it. It was gluten free and if I had removed the bacon, it would have been vegetarian. I recommend this restaurant if you have dietary restrictions or like to eat healthy. I would go back and maybe try something else. It was definitely pricey which I understand because the ingredients were very fresh. Their packing was all compostable! There were no COVID restrictions that I could see. Overall, I recommend this restaurant as long as you are aware of the price point!

It was the biggest tasteless bowl I've ever had. We paid $50 for 2 bowls and the only extra protein we got was an egg in each bowl.

Parking is primarily street parking in the area, but there is also a public parking deck nearby. I'm unsure what the current cost is for the deck, but it's worth knowing if you're visiting during a busier time. I ordered the fish tacos with black beans and chose the cheese grits as my second side. Everything tasted fresh and had lots of flavor. The real star of the meal, though, was the sweet potato cake. It was incredibly moist and delicious. Honestly, I could've eaten four of them without shame or hesitation. My colleagues ordered burgers and fries. They both really enjoyed their burgers, but neither cared much for the fries. They had also requested a couple additional items after the food arrived, but those items never made it to the table. The decor is bright and fun, though it didn't quite seem to match the style of food being served. Just my personal observation. They also have a robot that helps deliver the food alongside the servers, which felt a little unexpected for the casual atmosphere and southern comfort food vibe. They were fairly busy since it was lunchtime on a Friday, but the wait really wasn't bad at all. Would I go back? Yes. Was it my absolute favorite? No. But there were definitely things I enjoyed, especially that sweet potato cake that nearly made me consider ordering dessert first next time.

We ordered the hot chicken sandwich with a side of coleslaw, and both were packed with flavor. The slaw was light, crisp, and not overloaded with mayo, with just a slight peppery kick that made it incredibly tasty. The hot chicken sandwich itself wasn't overwhelmingly spicy, but it was finger-licking good -- juicy, well-seasoned, and satisfying down to the last crumb. We truly enjoyed every bite. The ambience with its bright green, purple and white colors added to the experience. The restaurant was lively and full of people, which is always a good sign. I also caught glimpses of other patrons' dishes, and everything coming out of the kitchen looked just as delicious as what we ordered. Service was friendly and welcoming, which made the visit even better. Staff members seemed genuinely happy to be there and kept things moving smoothly. The location is right in the heart of downtown Bhama, so parking is metered street parking, but the prices were reasonable and worth it for the quality and uniqueness of the food. Overall, this spot delivered on food, atmosphere, and service. Big thumbs up from me -- I'll definitely be back!

Being downtown, parking is not always the greatest, but it was a lovely evening for walking less than a block to the restaurant. It was a Saturday evening so there was a little wait, but we were able to sit outside and have a drink while we waited. Once inside, the place was dimly lit, really loud with music and very clean. And for having unisex bathrooms, those were surprisingly clean as well. Our waitress was great, I wish I could remember her name... but I do know she was from Cali. We ordered a couple of strawberry margaritas, which were just your basic drink, but still refreshing. Started off with a basket of chips, salsa and fundido. This is considered an appetizer, so no freebies here. The chips were fresh and warm, the salsa had a nice flavor and the fundido was ok according to the kiddo. We had the grilled shrimp tacos with rice and beans. You had to assemble your own tacos tonight, and order rice and beans separately as the taco plate had no sides, but all delicious.... Beans had a nice kick, the shrimp tacos were missing something in my opinion, but not sure what. We also had the best shrimp quesadilla we ever tried. It has overly stuffed and cheesy with wonderful lime cream sauce to go with it. This entree was a huge hit all around and it did come with a side, so no extra charges. To finish off dinner, we all shared the strawberry tres leches and OMG... Absolutely the best we have had in a while. Too bad it's seasonal. Over all, great experience and would definitely g
