This is an ok Bluemercury store. I visited on a Saturday while charging my car in the downstairs garage. There were 4-5 associates working and maybe 2 other customers aside from me. None were helping customers but just chatting amongst themselves. I actually wanted a sample of some of the fragrances and know more about them. The one associate I asked about it didn't even know they sold the asked item that she was standing right in front of. I found the associate's general lack of product knowledge and lack of professionalism disappointing at the Bethesda store. I know I wouldn't go out of my way to visit this particular store location knowing how many other Bluemercury stores does a much better job. read more

I just love going into the Bethesda Blue Mercury store. This store has all of my go to skin care products and carries my Jo Malone perfumes. My daughter and I always get the best makeup advice and the associates are just so helpful. Our go to associate is Shannon. She is so charming and just has a tremendous amount of patience with us. Additionally, she never ever pre-judge. Sometimes, when I come into a Blue Mercury store and not as dressed up as i should be I would get the eagle eyed look of some the associates. It gets very uncomfortable. It's like they are shooting daggers at me and saying, how dare you come in here with your hobo self. Not Shannon. In fact, I think she sees right thru the unkempt me (daughter is always put together) and just come up to me and knows exactly that we are indeed in need of "beauty" help. In fact, she's so good, that in no time, daughter and I have just spent almost 1k in makeup and skin care products. Daughter's line that she always goes for is La Mer. It seems to be the only skin care line that helps out with her eczema. It makes her face look flawless. I'm not as choosy but I always go back to their signature M-61 line, specifically their hydro boost eye serum. I go here to buy my refills. The other product that is easily accessible here and hard to find anywhere is the Darphin skin care line. I swear by the their 8 flower oil. It makes my skin so dewey. read more

It seems so natural to finally get a bluemercury store in the heart of Bethesda. The address is a bit confusing as their website also lists it as 7115 Arlington Road. That is because it is nestled on a newly designed pedestrian-friendly alley between Bethesda and Elm behind newly constructed million dollar condos on Arlington road. The store is a glam girl with a Sex and the City income's dream store. Only high end products, my dear. I'm down with that. This is the first place I've seen Trish McEvoy products outside of Saks. My friend swears by her Laura Mercier violet eyeliner and doesn't mind paying the price tag in return for its creamy application. I almost swallowed my Tic Tac when I picked up a Mason Pearson hair brush and saw the $151 price tag! Maybe I should sell mine on eBay, although I've had it for 30 years or more and it's still in fine shape. I think I'll keep it. In about a week, the "alley" is having a grand opening celebration. I will probably be back and maybe check out their spa services which seemed to be priced at the going rate. Nice sales people too. One of them even told me where to find the Kerastase conditioner I originally came in for at a nearby salon. That's customer service for you. Don't worry, I'll be back. read more

I placed a large order during the holiday sale. After a week, I finally received the package, just to find someone else's order. I contacted customer service immediately and was told my order would ship the next day. It clearly would've helped if a packing slip had been included, but needless to say their packaging always seems careless and haphazard. After two days of receiving no confirmation, I contacted customer service again and was informed all of the products I ordered were currently out of stock. I was asked if I wanted a refund of my money, however now that all of the holiday sales are over, I would have to pay full price for all of my products elsewhere. The rep seemed to have cared less that it was their error and that I had paid for products and have nothing to show for it. You would think they would've offered an additional discount when products came back into stock or anything for that matter. Stay away! 48 hours since my eyebrow wax and my colleagues at work can't stop asking who hit me in the eye. It's unclear if she burned my eye lid, ripped the skin off or both. I couldn't sleep the first night as my eye lid hurt so bad. In my 25 years getting waxed, this is by far the worst experience. I've called to complain but haven't heard back from the manager. Don't waste your money or risk your face here. You'd be better off at a cheap nail salon. read more

I haven't had any spa services here, so I can't speak to that, but I have purchased things from their store before. Their staff is generally helpful, to answer questions and also have offered to prepare samples for me. On some days, I will receive a friendly greeting or someone will come to ask me if I need help with anything, but on other days, you'll wander throughout the store with no one coming to greet you, which doesn't bother me too much... but just keep in mind that you might have to take the initiative to locate staff if you need questions answered. While the store doesn't hold all the products that they carry, they do have a nice selection of higher-end skincare, cosmetics, and fragrance products, including La Mer, Kiehls, Chanel, YSL, NARS, Bobbi Brown, Laura Mercier, Fresh, M-61, Mario Badescu, JO MALONE (if you're ever looking for a limited edition product that has been sold out elsewhere, this might be the place to come and see if they still have that last one!!!), and more. If these are brands that are of interest to you, definitely a nice place to stop by, as it's got a pretty convenient location in Bethesda. Her technique and the blue wax Bluemercury uses makes a Brazilian very close to painless. At $55, it's a bargain, especially in the Bethesda area. Plus, while I'm paying Angela always digs up a few product samples for me to take home! However if I need any products, I stick to Sephora. So this is my thing, spa services such as facials and massages need to be done in an atmosphere that is relaxing and quiet and spacious so you don't feel bottled in... While waxing is definitely a spa service, I don't need ambiance, I need it to be quick, clean, and as pain free as possible. I decided to branch out from you normal JCP lady, and try Jacky at bluemercury on Bethesda Av . She has changed my below waist waxing experience for the better! Bluemercury in general is a nice spot, well lit in the front, with dim lights and soft music in the spa area. The room for waxing is tight and for lack of a better word, intimate. I walked in with the aesthetician and she pretty much told me to get nekked! Uh... ok, yea this made me sweat a little. On to the review- so Jacky is a character. She talks a lot about random things which will totally take your mind off the process. She uses both strip and blue wax to clean up the lady bits. The blue wax is fantastic! Yes, it still hurts, but the pain is minimized because larger areas are cleaned with each snatch. I will definitely be back. It's completely out of the way for me, but I am SO pleased with the results and the service and the overall experience. I actually think the prices are reasonable for the spa services... didn't check the make-up/beauty products out front. It's located right across from the Apple Store and Francessca (great for accessories btw). Don't let the address fool you! Park in the public garage that only takes coins in the meter. This review is for the store, as I haven't had any spa services here. I detest this store because of their lackadaisical staff. They do not greet you or acknowledge your presence, and are typically busy chatting with each other. Once I walked in at the same time as a co-worker of theirs and was ignored while they descended upon said co-worker and her boyfriend, shrieking with delight. The only people who have been vaguely interested in helping were reps who happened to be there for specific brands. I used to come in here to buy products I couldn't get elsewhere, but now I just order online from another company or purchase from a less conveniently located store, all the avoid this place. [3.5 stars] I come in here from time to time. I went in today searching for a father's day gift. Since it's you know, a week away. Unfortunately, they didn't really have any gift sets. Just the bottle of cologne for $70. I wanted to spring for a set. Unfortunately, they didn't even have the separate body wash or lotion for sale individually, so I couldn't even make my own gift set with the products. Party foul! When I come here I ONLY go to Georgia. Her eye to detail is unmatched. I've gone to a few other places in a pinch as this location isn't as convenient for me these days but Georgia knows she's my favorite. She's quick and I leave from my Brazilian appointment feeling like a new woman. I love talking to Georgia she literally knows my life and by the end of the appointment it went by quickly and I didn't even notice that she was snatching hair from my skin. Very limited makeup and skincare range and extremely pushy salespeople. I seriously hate it when I go into a shop wanting a specific item and sales people try to sell me an item I've zero interest in--something I never even mentioned. I also hate it when salespeople try to point out a perceived flaw to me and try to sell me something after I express a complete lack of interest in the previous crap thing they tried to sell me. I wanted and asked for a red lipstick only and a salesperson tried to sell me an idiotic overpriced version of a body wipe. This same salesperson then tried to tell me their moisturizers were better than the one I was using. My skin is in great condition as I take care of it and am very content with the brand of moisturizer I use. The point being, that again, I never asked for another product, only lipstick. This was the second and the last time I will ever purchase anything from Bluemercury. It's a hassle going to this store despite being a 10 minute walk for me. The selections are abysmal and the reps are pushy and so rude as to not be worth my time and especially my money. A very unpleasant, shady experience. read more

I've been getting my eyebrows done here for years. I have been going to the same place for four years and when I'm at college I refuse to get my eyebrows done because they're one of the most noticeable features on your face and I wanted it done here since I'd used them before and trusted them. Holy hell was that a mistake. The first woman who did my brows was the greatest. Too bad she left years ago. The second one was pretty great. Kept the shape I know and loved. The third one, who did my eyebrows just on monday, I'm pretty pissed at. Not only did she cut the length of my eyebrows so they look like my brow hair is more thin than I thought possible, she basically made them lay flat. Have I mentioned they aren't even either? Save yourself the money and the hassle and let a 12 year old do it. It would probably turn out the same quality. Not only did I leave with a so-far, so-good mascara, but the woman helping me * saved * me money. I'd asked if there was anything I could put on that would help prevent smudging. She showed me that Bobbi Brown has some powder I could use, but then she told me I should just use my own loose powder under my eyes (on top of concealer) before spending more money. *i've never written a review before, but my experience was so poor I am still reeling* As a young 20-something-year-old, I don't look like I have as much disposable income as I imagine most BM customers do, and I don't go spending Willy-nilly unless I truly find value in what I'm purchasing. So, after researching extensively about a particular foundation, and after hearing so much about BM's supposed expertise, I decided to try out BM for the first time. BOY am I disappointed. As many others have stated here, their customer service is SEVERELY lacking. The representative assigned to help me (because apparently me asking for help wasn't enough to motivate her), was extremely impatient. Though I picked out the exact shade that suited my complexion in the foundation I had been researching, I still had questions.. and yet even after making her job easier, she acted as though the minimal effort required from her was too much. She cut me off mid-question multiple times, rudely answering as if I had no idea what I was talking about, essentially acting as though I was wasting her time. I really should've just walked away. I should've just left that store and gone to another, where I'd be treated with more respect, but I really needed the product for a special occasion. So, reluctantly, I went through with the purchase. Even when giving her my card and waiting for everything to go through she couldn't muster up a smile or even look me in the eyes. I am so bitter about the treatment, but the cherry on top was her send off - "ok love, have a nice day." Yeah.. luckily for BM I'm terrible with names, but if my advice means anything, DEFINITELY avoid the girl with braces and long black hair. read more

I like this as a makeup store, but I had the most horrible wax here. Not only was it horribly painful, but after all that pain there was still hair remaining. And it cost an abnormally high amount for such a terrible job. Not only that, but everything after the wax itself was awful- irritation, hair growing back super quickly, etc. in addition, when returning to my regular wax location, they said the hair had been waxed in all kinds of haphazard ways causing difficulty with future waxwings. I posted this under the Georgetown store as well, but I figured I should post it here as well to keep people from being duped like I was. I wanted to treat my wife to a massage for her birthday, and I was near the Bethesda location, so I popped in to see if they offered massages. They told me that they did and sold me a gift card to cover a 90 minute massage. When my wife tried to schedule it, she was informed that they only offer massages at the Georgetown location. Only on Saturdays. Only from 11:00 am - 2:00 pm. No one at the store told me this when they were ringing up the $150 for the gift card. My wife works on Saturdays. I was pissed and felt ripped off, but Blue Mercury is a high end store with a decent reputation, so my wife decided to hold on to the gift card and wait for the next Saturday she had off. The first time she scheduled the massage, Blue Mercury called and cancelled a few days before because they said the massage therapist wasn't available. So I guess this means they only have one person available once a week for three hours. Why even bother offering the service at all?!? She was finally able to book the massage a few weeks ago. The massage room is a closet. A filthy closet. There was dirt all over the floor and rust stains on the walls. There were four trash cans in the room. Not sure why a tiny utility-closet-turned-massage-room needs FOUR trash cans, but there they were. And the worst part, it reeked of vomit. She asked the massage therapist if he smelled it too, and he said that the room pretty much smells like whatever is in the street outside. The actual massage was fine, but the overall experience was about as bad as it gets. Avoid this place at all costs. Bottom line: the employees only care about separating you from your money. read more

Jennifer said she likes to apply make up on her clients that matches their uniqueness. My girl Shae left Bliss and now works here as well as the Georgetown location Sunday-Thursday. I forget her schedule, but if you call here and she's not working, she's probably at Bluemercury Georgetown. I visited her last Thursday for a Modern Facial and a lip wax. Bluemercury is similar to Bliss in terms of professional products: they use the same Lycon hard and soft wax and they also use Skinceuticals and other high-end brands. They even carry Bliss products. At $95, a 50 minute facial includes oxygen blast, which always cost extra at Bliss. A Brazilian here starts at $55, whereas at Bliss it costs more. You'll be getting more value for your treatment and paying less! This is not a spa-like ambiance in any way. There are two treatment rooms (there is a third room but I think it holds a washer/dryer). No sauna, no steam room. If you have been to Ulta and used their salon services, you'll know what I mean. Retail is the forefront of this business. The spa is more of an afterthought. First of all, they don't have online booking. That's fine because there are pros/cons to offering online booking, anyway. Second, they don't require a credit card to secure the reservation! Third of all, they don't have a booking engine and do everything on paper. As a spa coordinator who has worked in 3 spas, this blows my mind, especially the credit card part. But, Shae works here, so I roll with it. The spa coordinator who books my appointment was very friendly and all the staff I interacted with were also very nice. Plus they were playing '90s pop and R&B in the store, and we all know like to kick it old school sometimes. (They play relaxing spa music in the treatment rooms.) Like I said, not super relaxing but I'm here to address this breakout on my chin and catch up with Shae, so that's okay. It's been three days and my skin has calmed down a lot! PSA: You need to understand that the therapists here work on a commission. If you don't show up for your appointment, they do not get paid. (Imagine if your boss docks your pay because you didn't show up to a meeting. Wouldn't you be pissed?) So please, if you book an appointment, try not to cancel at the last minute. If you need to cancel last minute, at least give several hours' notice so the therapist will get another opportunity to rebook that cancelled slot. I was glad to see a bluemercury in Bethesda as I had been going out of my way to the one in Dupont and then the one in Georgetown for years to stock up on my favorite Paula Dorf lipstick and T Leclerc pressed powder. I went on a Wednesday afternoon and there were four employees and only two other customers in the store. No one spoke a word to me. I had to find my Laura Mercier face cream myself. Then I stood at the counter and then finally had to ask if I could pay. I had a gift card or else I would have walked out. Very disappointing. I will continue to buy my products at Nordstrom even though I would have liked to support a local business. Also, Nordstrom has an incredible return policy so that if a certain lipstick shade doesn't work out, they gladly accept the return. I can't even imagine what that would be like at bluemercury given the cold shoulder I was given to PURCHASE something. read more

Awful costumer service, staff are rude and look unmotivated to be there. almost as if they don't want to be there. I get that- i sometimes feel that way in my job too, but never do I show or demonstrate rude behavior specially in a beauty store with high market image. I walked in here today wanting to try the Nars line. I was in there for a while without even a hello! It was not busy, I was the only one in there. The lady in charge of the Nars line comes up to me after looking as though I am bothering her from getting off checking her phone. She puts her phone down and looks completely NOT interested to be helping me and gives me a sneaky dirty look (HELLO! how rude). She then tells me the usual line to get me to buy creams! seriously. I told her 3 times I did not need creams just eye makeup. She then wipes my liner off with a roughness that my eye still hurts till now because she was totally off and put it inside letting it go inside my eye. Staff here need to assist costumers in exploring options for what they need/not treat them bad if they don't want to buy a cream they don't need and costumer service is regardless of what you are in the store for, please don't look like you got inconvenienced from doing nothing. read more
