Well, let's start with service, it became obvious the waitress was about to end her shift, so she was in a hurry to have us order. Then another waitress took over when we were ready to order. the Chefs Soup of the Day cream of chicken was fantastic I had a nice discussion with the Chef and complimented him on it, he was friendly and appreciative. However their staple - which is not the CHEFS RECIPE- French onion soup was incredibly lacking, not much onions, the broth was lean, no real depth not much of a presentation, not much of a crouton nor cheese.?definitely wasn't Gruyère and not much time under the Salamander? I was looking for a place with a nice vibe and more upscale cuisine than average as I wanted to place to treat myself dining alone. I didn't think Los Alamos had very much to offer in that regard so I found myself at Blue Window. The ambience was exactly what I had hoped for. It was vibrant and simultaneously casual and sophisticated. I felt comfortable at my table and I thought the actual blue window decor was whimsical and well done. The lighting was just right and I would think this is a nice place to go out for a special occasion as well as a nice lunch by yourself. I was there for the dinner menu and decided to try the Play on Beef Wellington appetizer and see how I felt after that. I was not rushed to order any entrees and was able to hang out with my unsweetened iced tea as I decided whether or not I would need any more food. The app was pretty tasty. They were small-ish and I can't imagine having to share this with anyone. I ate them all! I was still hungry though, and felt I'd had enough red meat, so I ordered the Mediterranean Seafood Pasta. The scallops were huge and cooked perfectly as well as the shrimp. Delicious. The sauce on the pasta was pretty tasty, with a tanginess lent no doubt from the capers, however after some time I started to tire of the sauce's rich flavor and started to feel a little rough. Perhaps it's simply just my constitution that day, but while the seafood was perfect, the sauce ended up being a little too overwhelming in the end. For dessert, they had a little menu on the table with the options. I decided I couldn't resist trying the Rosemary Infused Creme Brûlée, as I'm a sucker for rosemary. It was FANTASTIC. It came with berries, which traditionally is the perfect refreshment for the creamy confection, and the rosemary was prevalent. I was very happy. All in all, I would definitely go back and try more things on the menu if I'm ever in town again. I was eyeing the beet salad, artichoke dip, and bison burger. On Dec. 29, 2025, we walked into the Blue Windows Bistro wanting a delicious meal but saw that there were 20 people waiting so we didn't have much hope. Surprise! We were seated within 5 minutes, because they had a 2-top available. It seems that everyone else had large parties. Our waiter was friendly, and quick. We made sure to order as soon as he came to the table so that we weren't holding on to the table longer than necessary on a busy night. My partner ordered the filet mignon special. I believe it was wrapped in bacon with a lobster béarnaise sauce. Sides were potatoes and broccoli. He devoured it. I ordered the salmon special. it came with a side of Mashed potatoes and broccolini. Everything was delicious! The restaurant was packed, but tables were spaced out so that you were not sitting on top of each other. Lots of windows. great atmosphere. We also ordered bread to begin with. the bread was small but tasty. I definitely recommend this fantastic restaurant in Los Alamos. Julie and I found a great meal here. It's in the downtown area and close to everything in this charming, historical town. We started off the evening with cocktails. Julie had a glass of Chardonnay from their small but well thought it wine list. I had a Manhattan from their "alternating styles" list but their bartender will make you anything you like. Julie had scallops with polenta. They were flavorful and delicate. I had the blue corn enchiladas with shredded beef and red chili sauce. They were flavorful and the beef was tender. The dish came with pinto beans. We ended our meal with dessert. Julie opted for a lemon cake and I had a bread pudding with whiskey sauce. It was warm, elegant and delicious. Service was good but they suffer from the perennial shortage of help that seems to haunt this town. But employees were friendly, efficient and helpful. We were taking in the Los Alamos historical experience and we came across Blue Window Bistro in our search for lunch. The indoor area is vibrantly colored with multiple pieces of art and decor and, if you have to wait for your table, you can take in the portrait gallery of the Manhattan Project primaries right outside the entrance. The menu has a very good variety of what I would call American style dishes along with Southwest inspired selections. I ordered the Tacos Alambre and my son had the chicken fajitas. The tacos were were very good. I recommend ordering chips and salsa, then using the remaining salsa and the jalapeño sauce that comes with the tacos to kick it up a notch. My son thought that the fajita was good, too. We opted not to get dessert there, but they had some very appealing options. Both the hostess and server were very pleasant. Perfect location in the center of town I f you are visiting Los Alamos. I had the Greek salmon salad. There was a salad part was a typical Greek salad, but the salmon filet was perfectly done! It was lightly seasoned with in on the outside and super moist on the inside. My hubby had the street fries from the appetizer menu. He ate a couple of pieces and said it was too much. We had great service. I really like that they leave a pitcher of water at the table and allow you to fill your own glasses. read more

Food aside, my Thursday day trip to Los Alamos from Santa Fe (where I'm attending the opera this week) has been a sobering experience. The Bradley Science Center, the Historic Park, images and statues of Oppenheimer everywhere-- the town is very much still stuck in a time warp of wartime official narrative that the U.S. "reluctantly dropped the bombs in order to hasten the end of WWII". The food was surprisingly good as was the margarita. We got the artichoke dip as a starter; my son and husband enjoyed their chicken enchiladas and I had the steak salad. The salad's dressing tasty. A lot of greens and a huge steak but not a lot of the toppings such as onions, cheese, or tomatoes. Restaurant getting dinged for not accepting my son's out of state real ID driver's license as proof of age so he was unable to get the margarita he wanted since his license was vertical in orientation instead of horizontal. Apparently in NM a vertical license means they are underage so the manager decided to reject his ID. Ridiculous. He used it to validate his ability to work out of state but not good enough for the restaurant. Be aware if you are coming from out of town. The manager gave us some malarkey about the punishment they could undergo, and they can enforce the law however they want. read more

This was their first taste of New Mexican foods as they were from Denver. They loved every bit of it. Although the 11am opening had a line of people at the door, everyone was quickly seated. The service is quick and attentive. The food is well prepared and portioned. I usually order the play if beef Wellington appetizer; however, I changed it up and ordered crispy calamari this time. Both appetizers are recommended. I ordered the Mediterranean seafood pasta, which was delicious. It had a very pronounced and enjoyable lemon flavor. I would definitely order it again. What a delightful find. We were in town briefly and this place is close to the visitors center for Los Alamos. We had our pup with us and sat on the patio while the staff totally loved on our dog. Great location for visiting the Fuller Lodge, doing the historic walking tour and walking a few blocks to the Bradbury Museum. Our server was a bit scattered. She disclosed to us that it was her second day back after two years. She admitted to not being to familiar with the menu, despite studying it for two hours that morning. The Cuban sandwich was really good. Served on French bread rather than the typical panini. It was bold and flavorful. Really good blue cheese dressing, too. The portobello sandwich was less exciting. The balsamic was really overpowering and it lacked a balance of flavors. The soup of the day, salmon and corn chowder, was good but super thin. All in all, a fine lunch stop. We celebrated our 60th wedding anniversary here. We had the Scallops and the Surf and Turf. We also had the fried calamari appetizer. For desert, I had the creme brulè. My wife had the lemon cake. It was a pricey meal, but well worth it for our special occasion. The price with one draft beer and a margarita was well north of $100. They forgot to record that I requested a window seat when I made the reservation, which was a little annoying, After a bit of angst, we realized that there were seats on the patio. Once we were seated, the service was outstanding. It was a memorable meal as good as anything we could have gotten in Santa Fe for the same price. I have long thought the Blue Window was the best restaurant in Los Alamos, but maybe not up to what we could find in Santa Fe. This meal moved them up a notch in our opinion. read more
