    Tacos de Chile Verde (pork)
    Ben N.

I'm probably setting a Yelp personal record here with my procrastination in writing a review, but Muy Salsas definitely deserves a plug, so here goes... We were here for a lunch back in October, on day trip from Santa Fe on the last full day of a nine-day New Mexico trip, after a wonderful excursion out to Vallas Caldera. (Visiting that surreal site is a must if you're in the area.) Don't judge Muy Salsas by its exterior, which somewhat resembles a giant double-wide, because inside it's sleek, bright, spacious, and inviting. This female-owned restaurant wasn't all that typical of other restaurants we encountered in New Mexico--it wasn't New Mexican or Old Mexican per se, but seemed to lean more heavily than average on the Mexican food's Mesoamerican elements while simultaneously folding in some fresh, bright updates. Tacos de Chile Verde were terrific all the way around: excellent blue corn tortillas, succulent pork with depth of flavor, bracing chile verde salsa, for some delicious balance of flavors and textures. (They did start to fall apart a bit before I get through them, though.) We sampled some great menu items in New Mexico during our time there, and this was right up there with them. Our server was working hard but had too many tables--she wasn't able to get back to us for a long time for iced-tea refills, for example--while at the same time a couple of front-of-the-house folks were standing around not doing much of anything. That didn't make much sense, but maybe that was some training of new staff going on up there. Anyway, four-stars plus.

This place is my new favorite in Los Alamos. Unlike several other establishments here being run by an abject lunatic, this place is run by people who know Oaxacan comfort food. If you know your Mexican food and can handle the heat, I recommend the Enchiladas Borrachos. They make their own corn tortillas and the corn nuances of these folded-flat enchiladas shines through.

Delicious tacos! Dropped by here for a light, quick meal. The tacos were perfect. Blue corn tortilla. Juicy. Tasty. Haven't tried the rest of the items on the menu but based on the tacos, I'm sure they're worth it. Excited to come back next time I visit Los Alamos! Waitress was very nice too. We sat out on the dog-friendly patio.

You know it's good when I'm here for the second night in a row! First off the waitress was excellent. The chips and salsa are a MUST. On the way out we met the owner & she was so nice. On our second round we had to order chips and salsa. Again our waiter is excellent. The owner came right away and welcomed us back. She told us to save room because she's going to treat us with dessert. We ordered several different meals and everything was amazing! In my opinion if you're in town don't bother with the other restaurants.

Absolutely fantastic food and service. I had the Nopal Asado, and this was the first time for me eating a cactus-based dish, which also had edible gold! It was delicious and the presentation was awesome. My wife had a selection of tacos and she enjoyed hers as well! Highly recommended!

In short, this place is amazing. The food is delicious, the atmosphere is nice, the service is friendly, speedy, and very welcoming. All in all, I'd recommend this restaurant happily! Continue reading for a more detailed review. I'm in Los Alamos for a business trip. I have been eating out every night, and I came here two nights in a row. By far this is the best overall experience I have had in town. I went to a really nice "fancy" restaurant, and I have to say, Muy Salsas tops it in every way. The service is stellar. The first night we went, we had a wonderful waitress. She was fun, friendly, and went above and beyond to make sure we were happy. Tonight we got a waiter, and I must admit, my first impression was not as positive. Mentally I exclaimed, "man I wish we got the same waitress". My prejudgments were quickly met with a very attentive and speedy waiter. While he may not have been as friendly as our waitress, he was by no means a bad waiter. He took good care of us. He quickly got anything we asked for, sometimes even before we asked. The atmosphere is very nice as well. It's traditional Mexican but with a modern take. And the place is very clean. As soon as a guest leaves, the table is cleaned. The food was delicious! High quality, hot, and very tasty. They have some very traditional dishes that are hard to find. The first night I had tuétano, or bone marrow. This is served in the bone, on a bed of fajita meat. Basically asada with onions and bell peppers chopped up. The chips and salsa are delicious, with homemade style chips. They also have cochinita pibil tacos. They were excellent as well. The burgers are amazing also. I didn't have anything that I didn't like. It's very apparent, why this place is such a success and stands out apart from so many restaurants. The owner is there in the restaurant and serving and working along with her staff. She is incredibly nice and welcoming. She made us feel like guests of honor. She's on top of things, pointing out tables that need cleaning, visiting all guests, welcoming everyone, taking things to tables. She even treated us to a desert this evening. She deserves all success her restaurant can bring. I just might have to visit a third time before I leave town. Muy Salsas isn't just a great restaurant here in Los Alamos, this is a great restaurant in general. Any time I'm here, I'm coming back!

    Cactus in mole w/ zucchini

I don't know what to think of this place and I don't think they do either. The food tasted good, but it's like they are trying to be fine dining and missing the mark. Well worn paper menus, wilted florals on the table, and dressed like a trendy taco shop with neon signs and a leaf wall. Not worth the price at all! The mole chicken and cactus were delicious when you separate the fact that they put sesame seeds on chicken as it did not add anything, and the fact that you are getting little to nothing. 1 tortilla was provided with the chicken mole and it's disproportional. Shredded chicken in a sauce with canned recited beans is not worth ~$13. There were gold flakes in the cactus mole, and the beans were exactly like refried beans from the can with parmesan cheese on top. The gold flakes are probably what they used to justify their pricing. The decor, facade of "fine" dining, and food presentation and pairings, were beyond confused as it seems the restaurant didn't know what they are aiming for. The flowers on all the tables were sad and wilting which is not a good presentation. Again the food tasted good, but we were confused the entire time and won't be coming back. Not worth the price despite the good mole sans sesame seeds.

Definitely a place to check out. The food was delicious and a unique take on Mexican food. The service and ambiance were a solid four stars.

In town for a track meet and stopped in. It was SO good! 10/10 recommend. Next time we're in Los Alamos we are definitely coming back! Staff was super friendly and attentive. Great decorations, clean, and inviting. Can't wait to try something else on the menu!
