We booked a reservation a week in advance. When we got there, they sat us directly in the sun. There was no shade, no umbrella. The fact that they thought it was acceptable even seat someone there is ridiculous. There shouldn't even have been a table in that spot at that time of the day. I wanted to ask them "are you able to sit there and eat?". No? Then why would you put a paying customer there. I wish I took a picture of the table. There were zero accommodations, just a "we don't have anything else for an hour". I understand if we didn't have a reservation and we just walked in but no, we made this reservation for a birthday a week in advance. So ultimately, we just left. Blue was a recommendation as well and this left a sour taste in my mouth. I will definitely not be giving this place a second try. Don't book any occasions here unless you want bad customer service and to be blinded by the sun. read more

Good service, good food, reasonably priced wine list, and a fantastic atmosphere. There's a large bar area with lots of seating (couches, stools, chairs, additional tables), so when you are waiting for a table you don't have to feel like you are crammed up next to a bar. Started off with our usual...fried goat cheese in a wonton, delicious! Hubby had the lamb shank, meat was falling off the bone with a side of rissotto, good combo. I had the feta chicken with a side of mash, very good moist and tasty chicken (I try chicken everywhere and this was perfect). For dessert we had the daily special warm pecan pie with side of vanilla ice cream. Perfect way to end off a great meal. I wanted to like this place but every time I go they're really trying to be something they're not. The prices are too high for mediocre food and WATERED DOWN drinks. I've gotten splitting headaches from their alcohol. If you can't do bottomless just don't do it. It shouldn't be an option just so they can serve watered down low quality liquor. It's a shame. One of my favorite restaurant I always ask for the pecorino risotto with grill scallops ,delicious Oreo crust cheesecake , bottles of wine decent price .Good service, view . The only issue is the parking is to small and have no valet parking. Has indoor and outside tables perfect for small events unless the do buyouts. Dereck is very attentive and has knowledge about menus and since the owner has a few more restaurants support them as well. He is a good and beverage guy. read more

Went to Blue for Valentine's day. Set menu, 3 courses. Very nice choices, not cheap sounding, boring options. I enjoyed my seafood salad appetizer but it's not on the regular menu. The Wildflower cocktail was delicious. I will absolutely go back to try out the regular menu. The view was awesome. You can hardly tell you're looking at industrial New Jersey after dark. I came here on with my boss for a meeting on a weekday during the day and found parking on a side street. But during the weekend i can imagine how hard it is to find parking. Wow heard so much about this place and all I can say was very disappointed. Hostess was fine, we quickly sat on a busy Valentines Eve. The waitress was fine as well. However the food was the worst I've had in years. The baked clams were stuck to the shell & they should slide off easily. Not fresh at all. My friend ordered a porterhouse, they served her a rib eye a big fat grisly rib eye, she ate a third of this $39.99 piece of fat. My other friend had tortellini & the amount of salt in that dish was obscene. It's now 5 hours later & she's home & still thirsty from it. The coffee was 15 hours old & that's easy to tell because the color was that of mud & it smelled & tasted old. The key Lime pie was about a week old. Nothing is fresh here. You can see the 17 year old Mexicans cooking in the kitchen dousing salt on everything. Horrific experience. Will never ever go back. Definitely not upscale nor fine dining category. More like a diner trying to sneak some big priced items in there yet they have no experience in cooking any of it. Fire the cooks & get a chef. Great atmosphere on the water & I am sure it's great in the summer there but wow food needs an overhaul! read more

After reading so many 5 star reviews, I finally went to Blue last night. The restaurant itself was very nice as was the outdoor space, but the view was a little underwhelming. We ordered the mussels and the baked clams, both of which tasted fresh and delicious. I decided to go with a dinner special veal chop. When it came out it looked delicious, but when I tried to cut it, the steak knife wouldn't even go through the chop. The manager came over and without hesitation she asked what I would like. My friend had ordered the mixed grill which included lamb chops, shrimp, pork and chicken, so I ordered that also. Again the dish looked delicious, but I have to say it was as bit bland for my taste and everything was a bit overcooked. My friend felt the same way. Needless to say I was a disappointed. Blue, beso, bayou have always been our favorite restaurants on the island. We live down the block from beso and blue and go there regularly. This past weekend we had our wedding at blue and it was nothing short of amazing. The food, hospitality and ambiance was perfect. I couldn't have asked for a better day. The view was beautiful. The food and drinks were amazing. However, the service of the busboy was better than the server's. He constantly came back to pour us more water and bring bread to the table. He also picked up finished plates and cups, all of which I presume a server is supposed to do. She did not even let us know about this great offer they have in which you can buy a drink and have unlimited refills for 90 minutes. Moreover, she cut us short when we asked for a last round and said we surpassed 90 minutes when we were only there for an hour. If you're going to say "unlimited drinks" on the menu, then don't be upset when people take advantage. It seemed like a great deal but they stop you at like 3. read more

As we were eating it started to rain was told they would move our table to a covered area. Our food and drinks were taken away and we were asked to sit inside and they would get a new table ready. Looking out at the water, even though it's 100% polluted, the view is definitely not. I don't care for salad that much, but whenever I bring a friend, they enjoy the freshly made salad and the big portion. Unfortunately, it seems like The appetizers are always over cooked, and over seasoned. And way too salty. By far, the best restaurant in Staten Island!!! We went on a Saturday night and waited a little bit in a very nice bar area before being seated in a nice sized dining room with amazing views of the water. The service was outstanding! Not only was our waiter fabulous but the host went out of his way to greet us and welcome us as first timers in his delicious restaurant! From appetizers to dessert, the food just kept getting better and better! My husband raved about the pork tenderloin, my halibut was the best I've ever had and both my daughters enjoyed their steak, salad and out of this world, crab meat w/strawberry appetizer. I can't wait to keep going back to try everything else on the menu. If you've never been here, you definitely need to make your way over and you'll be yelping about your experience as well! read more

My girlfriend and I were celebrating our anniversary, and as we love Bayou and Beso we thought it would be a great idea to try Blue. I attempted to make a reservation, and was told by the woman on the phone that they only make reservations for parties of 5 or more...a bit pretentious, but if this place is like Bayou or Beso they could be. We arrived to Blue at 700 and were seated before 730, it was a Wednesday so it was not terribly busy. The atmosphere was great, and they made an incredible transformation from the old resturant. Our waitress was Kelly, I feel the need to mention her by name because the service was some of the worst I have experienced. She pressured us to order, coming by three times before we even read the full menu. We ordered two apps the crab fritters and seafood spring rolls and another round of drinks. after we ordered the apps the bread and olive oil came out. We finished the bread which was delicious and Kelly came to our table to ask If we would like more drinks, she went to the bar to flirt with the bartender after she was last at our table and never retrieved the drinks we initially asked for, and finally got them for us. After around 30 minutes our apps arrived and they were delicious, the food you would expect from the owner of this restaurant. Kelly asked if we would like to order entrees again after we explained that we would after the appetizers, an honest mistake that she made two more times before the appetizers were completed. After we completed our apps we ordered our entrees, The lobster tail stuffed with crab and the ancho chili rib-eye steak and i ordered another beer. 15 minutes later, Kelly asked how we were doing and I told her "thirsty" and she asked if we wanted more water...I had to order another beer, as she forgot another drink order and while she was there my girlfriend ordered another drink. The time when this occured was about 830, our table conversation continued as we sipped our drinks and watched all of our fellows diners receive their entrees, many whom were seated after us. At around 930 tables around us were mostly gone and tables around us were reseated and receiving their apps. We asked another waitress, if she could find our waitress for us. Kelly came to our table and told us there was a mix up in the kitchen and our food went to another table. She asked us for our order again, we gave them to her and asked for another round of drinks. ten minutes pass, and I had gone to the bathroom and saw where Kelly spent the night hiding, leaning against the bar laughing with the bartender. When I got back to my table Kelly was soon to follow, and she asked us if we wanted to go wait outside and we could be reseated when our food was ready. I asked her again for another round for my girlfriend and I and told her we would stay at our table, because she told us the food would only be ten more minutes and it would not make sense to give up our table and risk our food getting cold while waiting for another table. Kelly came back a few minutes later and said the drinks were on her for the mix up with the food. An hour later 1030-1040 our orders arrived and I asked for another beer for my meal. Kelly was very involved with a large table and while she was passing back and fourth between their table bringing out the food and their drinks I stopped her and again asked if everything was ok. I was halfway done with my entree at this point, and asked her again if she could get me another beer. The beer came for my last bites of the meal. This was four times that she completely forgot our tables drink orders! I thought that this was incredible, working in food service for several years I could not fathom forgetting that many orders! Our meal was done and yes the food was very good, the steak was more well then medium-rare as I asked for but the lobster tail is a must have dish. We sat with our plates as Kelly was working very hard over the customers at the large table, we were clearly forgotten to sit and wait for her to be called over again to ask for the check. The time now is approaching 1130, and the bill arrives and Kelly also brought us two glasses of champange, she said it was her gesture for us waiting for our entrees for so long. Before we paid our bill we took a sip of our champagne and my girlfriend and I look at each other and we had to laugh, the champagne she gave us was white wine! My girlfriend, and avid wine fan told me it was Cabernet savigion. Kelly also charged us for the drinks that were "on her", we could not get her attention as she was in deep conversation with the bartender and decided to deduct the drinks from her tip. The restaurant needs better managment, the service was deplorable! Good food doesnt mean a thing with service this bad. I was very dissapointed and will not be back at this place for a long time, very sad... the owner should really do something to fix this. read more
