We are big fans of Mediterranean food and often go to places like Zara's on Staten Island but were introduced to Opera about a year ago. They're known amongst my family for bringing out this ENORMOUS bread that seems larger than anyone can eat but you're surprised not only by the fact that it's hollow inside but also how quickly it disappears when you're enjoying the fabulous meze platter (a variety of dips that you can enjoy). My grandma got the lamb shish kabob (which was huge) and my boyfriend got the lamb adana. I got the mixed grill. Everything tasted delicious and we were very full with still more food to take home after we ate our fill. The portions are large and the staff is friendly and attentive. Our waitress came by a couple times to check on us and staff was quick to take away plates we were finished with and wipe down the table in between so we didn't have crumbs everywhere after the bread course. The interior of this place is also really lovely. They decorated for Valentine's Day and also put on the Olympics on TV, though none of the seasonal decor nor entertainment felt like it overpowered the cozy atmosphere of this place. My favorite part of it is that the seating feels incredibly cozy because you can sit in a nook with beautifully designed cushions arranged around the bench for comfort and style. Ambience is just gorgeous. Service is spectacular. Menu is extensive. Small shepherd salad with feta cheese is incredibly tasty and is more than enough for two people. Combined with their hot bubble bread is a treat. Shrimp casserole (my favorite dish there) comes out bubbling hot. You have to be careful not to burn your mouth and let it cool off a bit. Very tasty and the cheese melted on top gives it an extra touch. The crêpe for dessert was perfect. The fruit served with it was deliciously sweet. Stopped by after my daughter's basketball game. Got a warm welcome and even got the eat I requested. I was in full view of the oven where they make the hot bread that's to die for. I had the virgin mojito. Refreshing and not too sweet. My dinner choice. The lamb chops opted for fries and not rice. They were cooked to perfection and seasoned well. My husband had the Mix Pide. A thick-crust pide loaded with chopped beef, Turkish beef sausage, vegetables, mozzarella cheese and spices. The portions are generous and the staff all work well together and they check in frequently. The best part it does not break the bank. This was my 3rd time and they have been consistent each time. Tried Opera Cafe Lounge Staten Island today for Father's Day breakfast for the first time. Have to say we weren't impressed to say the least. Waiter was so sweet and tried so hard updating us on breakfast order. Only half the order came out at first after a considerable wait. Had to wait at least 20 min for rest of order to be brought to the table. "Kitchen and coffee stations were behind". That's what we were told. Mind you, it really wasn't THAT busy and how long does it take to make eggs and brew coffee?? We waited patiently, only asked once and waited. All orders came out with cold seasoned fries and food itself was also cold. Service was confusing and disorganized. People running around in circles literally. The decor was BEAUTIFUL!!! Chairs were upholstered in a rich red velvety fabric, so comfortable with shades of Mediterranean charm throughout the eatery. We will try it again, but this time for their dinner menu. Hopefully next time I will have a more encouraging experience. read more

Wonderful. We loved the combo of appetizers on the mixed Mezzo plate. Accompanied by fresh baked bread. The beet yogurt dip was amazing. Very extensive menu, with a Mediterranean middle eastern theme in food and decor. It is spacious and accommodate larger groups. Empty Cigar Rolls on two different occasions and both times half of them were empty. there was no cheese... and overpriced compared to all the other Turkish/Mediterranean restaurants nearby. please do better. 2. Salama was great had the baklava which was amazing. They were very attentive the water glass never gets empty haha. Definitely recommend as someone from Brooklyn who usually eats at the Emmons ave location. read more

Opera on Hylan it's not what I was expecting to be , atmosphere it's ok nothing special , the time I went with my family was afternoon only one table with 2 people and on the other table was the owner or the manager on of them talking to employees. The time I entry inside the place it's new for sure but the sun was to strong inside becouse no shade on window and the glass was not clean , who did the clean before was all faces , I'm sure they using cheap windex . Soon we set down less then one minute I was fixing my baby , I waiter young girl came right away and ask us if we want water for start , we say not yet just bring us couple menu and will see what to get soda or yogurt , soon she left the owner or manager came to ask if we need water the same question just like the girl , that's nice to ask costumer to not make them wait for menu or something to drink , we told hem that the Girl was here and we waiting for menu thanks , the girls went to computer next to the counter and 4 guys employed was talking to her and also the owner went there talking to her and other employees after he went to talk with other employees on the table like small meeting The girl she bring the menu and right away she ask wat you guys want to order , we told her can u give us two minute to see the menu she say ok and she left . Food is nothing special and overpriced for what it is. Service also not very attentive. We went there on Friday night got there around 9:30 and I called them to confirm if the kitchen still open, once we got there the waiter informed us that they shut off the oven and there is no more bread and few other items. I feel like when you open up a new business you should be more flexible especially on Friday nights. Even though the set-up is nicely done but I wouldn't go back. There are plenty of other places on the Island where you can get much better food and service for this price. read more

My nephew and I decided to stay on the island and check out the new location and compare it with the original location in sheepshead bay. The food was exactly the same as I've come to expect from their kitchen. I found no fault with that. This new location though is having a bit of trouble with the wait staff. Our waitress did not know the items on the menu and I had to point it out and show it to her. She took our order and then disappeared for the rest of the dinner service and didn't come back to check on us. Fortunately the manager on the floor recognized me from the Brooklyn location and took care of us for the remainder of our dinner. I can forgive them because it's a new location, but the staff needs to come up to speed a lot quicker before dealing with customers. (And the restaurant wasn't that packed yet in the early evening). I'll go back again in a few weeks and check the location out again to see if the staff has come up to speed. That is why for now I'm only going to give them 3 stars. read more
