I have a 13yo Shih Tzu who, until recently, LOVED our long daily walks. He's fit and looks like the Apollo Creed of his breed. Sadly, Kairo suffers from heart disease, has to take 4 different meds, and wheezes when he breathes. He's now special needs. His regular groomer is not available due to a family emergency, then upgraded to no longer gro0ming. Kairo's hair was growing excessively, and he started to quickly mat which become increasingly uncomfortable. After calling dozens of groomers who had no dates available until Nov, I finally booked a next day appointment with Pet Smart. I explained Kai's fragility in concise detail, agreed to stay, and sign a waiver, but once I arrived, they treated us like we had the plague! The Manager resolved, but no way I was letting them touch my Kai. I sat in the car frustrated! Dear Lord, who has the kindness to groom special needs dogs? Google hears my question and provides a few choices. First up was THE DOGGIE WASHERETTE, which - I called based on the EXPERTISE listed on website and left a message. Then took a closer look, read the medical updates, and assumed she was not available. I asked God to continue blessing her journey and called a few others. About an hour later, SHE CALLED ME BACK! Ms. Ethyl explained her "specialization" with dogs in Kairo's condition, we made an appointment just 3 days later, and ...WOW! She treated Kai like he was a newborn baby! He looked and felt fabulous after she gently relieved him of all of his knots, filed his "stilettos" nails down so he can walk on his paw pads, even treated the yeast between his toes, and I was so incredibly THANKFUL! The Doggie Washerette is a magical place run by an unbelievably, amazing, human being - Ms. Ethyl. Kai was quietly knocked out 5 minutes into our ride home - feeling sensational. When I first met with Jay during our evaluation my pup Nalani was very afraid and unsure of someone…read morenew being in our home. She would not go near him or listen to any commands we tried to use. Jay explained to us the approach he would use during training and I told him about the different goals I had for Nalani. I did some research after our evaluation with Jay and decided that he would be the best fit for us and for training Nalani. There are two things that really stood out with Jay compared to the other companies I looked at, the first being that the was no shock collar involved and the second being that all training was done in home with me or my husband. These were important to me because I didn't want to rely on a collar for my dog to listen and I didn't want to send her away to train, I wanted to build that bond with her so we would continue to succeed long after training. That being said we are now two months post training and Nalani does not miss a beat; she listens the first time for all commands and has quickly learned new ones on top of what she already knows! Just to touch on the training aspect there are few things Nalani learned with Jay that I never believed would be possible or even imagined to train her myself. We live in a split level house and before Jay our dog would run and bark at whoever was at the door no matter the person. On our first official training day we were taught how to instruct her to stay at the top of the steps whenever someone rings the door bell and stay there until released. When Jay told us that was our first goal I thought to myself NEVER in a million years will this work! Well, it did! This is just one of the many simple commands that Jay taught us and I never would have thought of myself. It will also be one that will come in handy for a very long time. Another part of her training was to sit whenever told during walks, not to get distracted, and not to pull on the leash. This one took a bit more training but Jay persisted, he kept at it and showed us different techniques to use during our walks to accomplish leash manners. Now I hardly have to even hold the leash and Nalani stays right at my side and never pulls the leash. The last thing I'd like to mention is off leash walking, this was my biggest goal of the entire training, everything else was great but ultimately I wanted to be able to take my dog anywhere and not worry about her running off when not attached to a leash. After Nalani mastered the other training techniques Jay taught us it was time for the off leash training. This actually was learning on my part, I needed to trust my dog and show her confidence to be off leash. It was unbelievable the first time she did it effortlessly. No leash, right at my side, and I had no worry of her running off!! To end this long review and get to the point, Jay is an absolutely amazing trainer! He went above and beyond training Nalani; he met all of my expectations plus more. I have no regrets choosing him as our trainer and plan to use him for any future dog's training. Jay truly cares for the dogs he trains and its obvious the compassion and love he has as a trainer. I would highly suggest him to anyone looking for effective and lasting training.

And just last month, I took my latest addition in to get up-to-date on her vaccinations & to receive calming meds for a four-day road trip (my cat only rides in my car for vet visits, so I wanted to be prepared for any potential anxiety during the 10+ hour drive each day). This was the first time I met Dr. B's son, who started off by saying, "I LOVE cats." This put me at great ease because I knew my spoiled little furball would be in excellent hands despite just meeting the new veterinarian. Everything went even better than I imagined & he gave me a thorough explanation on what to expect when administering Gabapentin to my cat. During her exam, he also mentioned that one of her teeth was almost ready to fall out which took me by complete surprise! He showed me the plaque buildup & I guess I hadn't realized that it had actually been some time since her last appointment...back when her little chompers were sparkling white. I was advised to get an enzymatic toothpaste for pets (which I actually purchased just a week before her appointment, go figure) & although I said she probably wouldn't let me come close to her teeth ever again, he assured me without the slightest bit of hesitation: "You can do it!" We also discussed diet & more specifically, taurine content in cat kibble. The doctor wished us safe travels & we were on our way. *I wanted the Gabapentin as a "just in case" & fortunately, didn't have to use it. My gal was as sweet as pie & only disrupted my sleep by smacking my face at precisely 3 AM every morning during our trip to play. Meow!

In mid August 2025, I took my seven year old Rottie in with a complaint of coughing/hacking like…read moresomething was lodged in his throat . Dr. Maa "examined" him and diagnosed ear infections which we received medication. My pup was friendly and totally non-aggressive. Dr. Maa never felt his neck or any other areas for possible swollen lymph node glands even though my pup was still dry coughing/hacking during his visit. Approximately two weeks later, I noticed his pupils looked cloudy and his visual alertness was off. Although it was Sunday, I found an urgent care veterinary clinic in Alexandria, Va, who immediately requested that I bring my pup in for an evaluation. Within minutes of feeling my pup's lymph nodes, the vet at the urgent care clinic gave me her opinion based on her experience. Every detail was explained and treatment options discussed. Blood tests indicated my pup was suffering from lymphoma. The urgent care clinic prescribed meds that kept him comfortable since he was still active and eating well. Over the next two weeks he lost a considerable amount of weight despite the amount of food he consumed daily. Three weeks later I decided to have him euthanized as he didn't deserve to suffer!
