This sweet place came highly recommended by Yelp & the locals I talked to. It didn't disappoint. The roasted red pepper tomato soup with Gouda was filling and a perfect mix of chunky and creamy. Please change this restaurant to "not kid friendly." i just had a horrific experience at Blue Sky. I watched who I think was the owner become enraged at a customer and it was a little scary. He turned red and spit flew out of his mouth as he yelled at her because her daughter was by the bathrooms downstairs. Of course the little girl had just gone back there, hadn't touched anything and her mother had just gotten up to go retrieve her, but he kept screaming at the mother as she picked up her daughter and walked back to her table. I have never seen such unprofessional, hostile, aggressive behavior by a business owner in my life. He had an emotional response that was way out of whack with what actually happened. I will never go to Blue Sky again and urge everyone--especially families--to stay away. read more

Perfectly fine sandwiches at this little corner stop -- though I'm not sure it's on par with some of the excellent options in the Triangle, it was still a great bite in small-town Lexington. Phil ordered the Blue Sky sandwich, while I had a Cali one. We split each in half and shared. I favored the first sandwich which Phil opted to put pesto-mayo and Monterrey Jack on -- the flavors meshed well with the turkey. My sandwich had a tomato-basil spread that tasted more mayo-y than anything else. But we both agreed the house-baked focaccia was pretty delicious. The side options were either plain Lays or a bean salad. WIth two stories of indoor seating and a few picnic tables outside, it's a good option for lunch if you're in the area. read more

It's good, there is no denying that except for one caveat. The only thing that makes it good is the bread. I went there with a gluten free friend and she had a salad that was subpar - generic lettuce, generic toppings, meh dressing. It made me reexamine my love of this place and look closer at my sandwich. There is an average amount of average meat, toppings, etc. but the bread!!!!! it is divine- fresh, springy. The spreads also make it a heck of a good sandwich especially for Lex-Vegas. The desserts are also amazing- have tried the brownie type thing they always have next to the register, a lemon bar, and carrot cake and they have all been superb. Only other complaint about this place is that it's randomly open on the weekends...but generally not. I call every time visitors are in town just in case they happen to be open. read more

In a town laden with pizza, the flavorful, fresh and inventive focaccia toppings at Blue Sky atop a wonderful yeasty bread are a refreshing reminder that although man does not live by bread alone he could certainly try if it were done this way. This was a very cute bakery in downtown Lexington. I had the Greek salad and the Bacon and brie focchia(sp?). Both were Delicious and good size portions. The staff was friendly. It was lunch rush and was really busy but surprisingly it didn't take to long to get our food. I went to Blue Sky for lunch with my boyfriend today and I must say they have some of the best sandwiches I have ever had. We ordered two sandwiches: the Mikes BBQ sandwich and a tuna melt along with a cup of broccoli cheddar soup. The BBQ sandwich was filled with tender pulled pork topped with coleslaw in between two slices of delicious homemade bread and served along with a side of black bean salad. The tuna melt was a little different than any I have had before, it was more of an open face sandwich, but was delicious nonetheless. The moist tuna salad was topped with a slice of fresh tomato and cheese and toasted. The toasted bread that the tuna sat on added a perfect crunch to the creamy tuna salad atop. I could not decide which sandwich I liked better. The only reason I gave the bakery four stars instead of five is because of the broccoli cheddar soup. The soup had a weird grainy texture and was not very flavorful, it was a disappointment. The staff is friendly and has a great atmosphere. Great sandwich shop, but too much sugar on everything. Chili was super mild, without any heat and unnecessarily sweet. Focaccia was rich and delicious, but also sweet, when I prefer savory. Black bean salad side was black beans and corn with a sugary dressing. Turkey sandwich was very good, but also had a sweet spread on it. This place is charming. This place really is awesome! They have delicious sandwiches, fresh ingredients, and very friendly staff. My only complaint is that the prices are way too high. For a small sandwich and a little cup of black bean salad, the cost is approximately $8.00, when you add a drink, we are talking an easy $10.00 lunch. Those are more like DC prices. Great for a simple, tasty lunch in Lexington. Not super creative (most of the sandwiches are made with lunch meat, which I can do myself) but there are a few stars that make this place worth visiting. Once a week the special is Mike's BBQ sandwich, incredible. The focaccia is great, love the black bean salad. Stay away from the desserts, the brownies especially are way too sweet. It has a friendly atmosphere and the owners take your order and make your food. They are great and remember you after a visit or two, and we love the kids area in the basement too. read more
