Blue Sky (BS) and Buns Over Texas (BOT). Both got a plain, no-frills burger because I'm a purist. Also because I needed to taste the burger, not the personality of whoever slathered it in sauce. Let's start with Buns Over Texas. First off, solid single patty. The lettuce and onions were shredded like they just lost a fight, but in a good way. The bun? Buttery and toasted--basically the prom king of buns. I cheated a little and seasoned it myself before the first bite, but they've got a DIY fixin' bar inside, so technically I was just participating in the process. BOT gave me flavor, crunch, and the mild thrill of mild customization. Then came Blue Sky. The building looked suspiciously clean, like a place that might overcook a burger and call it "gourmet." But I was wrong. The single patty was hefty, cooked perfectly, and had real flavor--without me having to sprinkle on anything like a bored wizard. It was ready to impress straight out of the wrapper. Now, here's the deal: both burgers were good. Add cheese, and we're talking next-level. But if I had to pick one to bring to a deserted island (or just to dinner), I'm going with Blue Sky. I grew up in Amarillo, and last week I paid a visit. For my birthday, I was treated to a bacon double cheeseburger at Blue Sky Texas. It's a standard restaurant setup, booths on all sides, with tables in the middle. We were cheerfully greeted at the counter where our orders were taken. The beef was charred perfectly, bacon dropping off the sides, and all together delicious fresh toppings (extra points for having Coke Zero)! I ordered a side of their sweet & delicious onion rings with ketchup already at the table. They also serve hot dogs, salads, chicken fried steak, and shakes & floats. Once again, I was too full at the end to try the shakes. Gotta learn to pace myself in Amarillo! read more

The burgers are good but, they have to do something about the drive through. If you come to pick up your order on time and someone sitting there for 10 minutes in front of you because they got there early, they should tell those people to go around. If you go in, there's nowhere to pick it up either cause you have to wait in line too. Nothing like taking cold burger and fries home every single time. First time ordering food from here, did their call in and pickup at window. First off if you want to buy every item separate and no combos this is your place. Food just reminded me of five guys on everything is expensive for the quality that came out. Spent $54 for $13 bacon cheeseburger $11 crispy chicken sandwich $3 cold small fry $7 kids corn dog and fries 3 Oreo shakes that was probably the best part for me personally $16.50 for those. One of my favorite spots in ALL of Texas. They are consistent. I definitely recommend a cheeseburger and the green chili fries. The scooners are huge and reasonably priced. Service is okay. It's a straight to the point burger joint with other options like chicken, sides, and salads. Overall, I recommend this place. read more

Awesome customer service at the drive thru today!! One item was missing out of our order so I returned where Scotland was extremely kind, apologetic and professional.... Pretty good down home food. I'm not a huge hamburger gal but it was good, I ate it without the bun. The serving sizes are HUGE! So if you're feeding a family great but two people you better half the order. Oreo shake was amazing and the onion rings were AMAZING! We ordered way tooooo much and didn't finish our meal. This is a great Hamburger restaurant!! Served on Light Brioche bun, each large burger is served to your specifications- rare to well done! All the normal add ons exist - and also green chili's. They serve chicken items and offer a kids menu. Sides are pretty large portions- especially the sweet potato fries and fried green beans..... They give you a heaping serving!! Sweet potato fries were long and crispy and not over cooked - and very sweet! No cinnamon or brown sugar needed! Their paper menu has three kinds of regular fries and also serves onion rings and many other traditional items. We try to stop here when passing through whenever they are open as we pass! This is a restaurant that is riding on its laurels. It used to be better but I can't begin to say how disappointed we were in the food and the ambience now. Let's start with the burger -- $10.69 for a basic cheeseburger that doesn't include fries! Add a small order of fries and you're looking at a $15 tab for a counter service restaurant. I can pay about the same -- or less!! -- for a restaurant that has a person bring me my burger and fries and is nice to me. Now let's talk about the onion ring/fries combination that was all but inedible. The onion rings were presented in one giant clump that had been in the fryer way too long and looked like something that should have been thrown out, not served. The fries were ok, but considering we paid $6.59 for the order (only comes in large) we basically threw away $3.50. The onion rings should have been called "burnt onion ball". Now, let's add the incredibly bad country music blaring over any effort to talk and it's a place that I will NEVER go back to unless I'm feeling like mistreating myself and anyone with me. read more

Good, probably one of the better burger places in Amarillo. They definitely load you up on the toppings. Prices are reasonable (coming from an NYC perspective). Their shakes are quite good and have a good amount of options. I also like the TVs that are on sports channels playing in the background. I'll have to do my research on where they get their beef, whether they are hormone/antibiotic free, etc. I have a feeling it isn't treated special, but I could be wrong. Biggest drawback is how greasy everything is - fried, burgers, onion rings. The food oil seeps through the paper dishes they're kept in. Will probably come back from time to time. Decent for the city, maybe not that comparable to other burgers nationwide. However, might rather go to Burgerfi if it's not too much farther from where I am (reference my yelp review regarding their free fries, etc). read more

I don't know what happened to this location. When we pulled up about five o'clock on Friday, the place was empty. We ordered a regular hamburger, A green chili burger and a large order of onion rings. In checking the receipt while waiting for our order, we realized they had charged us for a large order of fries as well. They fixed that issue without any other problems. However, the burgers used to be tasty and juicy because they did not use frozen patties. These burgers were dry, overcooked, smaller than before, and obviously cooked from frozen. The onion rings were greasy and heavily salted. They charge too much to have it be so bad. We won't be back. read more

First time coming here. I ordered a cheeseburger with grilled onions, my son ordered a cheeseburger with green chili, and my daughter a grilled cheese. Staff is super friendly! Place was immaculate and spacious. Food was quick and delicious! Loved it. Kids enjoyed the food as well. Big portions. Onion rings were not your standard round onion rings, they were more like fried onions you top on a hamburger, which I did. Vehicle trouble happens, and it really messes up your schedule when you're 1,200 miles away from home! Such was my case as I visited Amarillo, Texas, but as my truck was being fixed, my burdens were lifted, as I enjoyed a burger, onion rings at Blue Sky Texas, in Amarillo, Texas. The dining room is HUGE, and it's decorated with everything Texas, and features television monitors playing sports. I walked in just after the restaurant opened, and the dining room was sparsely seated, but by the time I left, an hour or so later, the dining room was packed. Blue Sky Texas is noted for their hamburgers and cheeseburgers, and I came to check that out for myself. The format is that you grab a menu as you enter the restaurant and make your selection. Then, you walk up to the counter, place your order and pay for it. If you're feeling "tipsy," there is a tip jar on the counter so you can give a gratuity to the friendly staff. You'll receive a receipt with your order number, and when your order is ready, a board above the counter will flash your number, then you walk up to the counter and pick up your order. The cheeseburger was a large ground chuck patty, grilled perfectly, and included cheese - of course - shredded lettuce, tomato, pickle and onion. There wasn't any mayo or mustard, as it wasn't needed, as anything additional would have only masked the goodness of this wonderful burger. You could actually taste, savor and enjoy the melted cheese! My, my, my... this was a delicious cheeseburger! Great onion rings which didn't require any ketchup to enjoy. I dipped a couple of them in ketchup, then discarded the ketchup, as the onion rings were just TOO good to dip in ketchup! Quite a meal... I note many Amarillo food critics have rated Blue Sky Texas' burgers as the best in town, and I don't know if I can say THE best - I haven't sampled many burgers in Amarillo - but I can say that their burger is definitely delicious. I loved the burger, the onion rings, the "sports pub" atmosphere, and the friendly, Texas, hospitality. Blue Sky Texas should definitely be on your "burger" list when you're visiting Amarillo. read more

We haven't been to the area in a while so we decided to try out the newly opened 2nd location. Like the other location, it did not fail to satisfy our cravings for a quality hamburger. The restaurant is at a more spacious location. Parking is ample. The set up is same as the other restaurant. We were there on Saturday Night so it was understandably crowded.
