I travel to Hayden fairly regularly for work and this has become one of my go to places to eat breakfast. If I am in town for the week I usually manage to stop in here once or twice. The food is your usual 'Greasy Spoon' diner fare but way better. Last time I was here they had gingerbread pancakes for the morning special..and the win. Portions are healthy and will fill you up without being wasteful. Waitstaff is friendly and efficient. Definitely worth stopping in for a try. read more

Great local, family owned restaurant! Very affordable. Not touristy. Daily specials are interesting and very reasonably priced. Breakfast selections come in smaller sizes in a "petite" section of the menu. A "side" of ham is big enough to share (with a group!). We were 5 hours into an 8 hour road trip that started at 4:00am. We were driving thru Hayden and wanted breakfast. I searched yelp and the Blue Plate Cafe came up. It had 1 review with 4 stars..sounds good and it was! It's a homey country cafe, super casual, grab a seat when you see it place. I had a piece of thick french toast with a nice slice of ham topped with maple syrup..yummy! My husband went for the largest item on the menu the "Blue Plate Special" of course. I think there were 4 kinds of meat, 4 eggs and generous heap of potatoes..more than he could eat! The potatoes were crispy fried potatoes chunks..my kind of morning potatoes! The large OJ is a large and comes in a mason jar..like that! We definately will stop again on the next trip! read more

I took my dad here when he was visiting once and this promptly became his favorite breakfast place...no hardship for me because I like it too. The wait is usually longer, especially during regular breakfast hours and weekends but it's worth it. The service is diner friendly. If you ask, they even have flavored creamer. The biscuits and gravy aren't as good as my sister's but since she rarely makes them for me I happily order from here...definitely not just flour and water, they actually have flavor. The chicken fried steak breakfast is yummy but huge (I can only get it if someone will split it with me and even then I can rarely finish my half...no joke it comes out on three plates) Good food, good size portions, good prices and good service. This is a really blue place! And no egg whites...first time on this trip! And just who is the "they", in "they don't DO that"? At least .they have two sizes of oatmeal, which proves they take their oatmeal seriously. I would recommend that "they" rethink that egg white policy, but we did enjoy the decor. read more

Love Blue Plate! Super kitschy, very classic breakfast joint. We are there probably once a week, and order the same thing: chicken fried steak, meal or solo depending on the hunger factor. It is THE best one in town. It's large, so if you don't want to take home left overs, order it a la carte. But their breakfast potatoes are super good, so you may as well order a meal. Gals who work there are spunky and true to a breakfast joint-- some take a bit to warm up to you, but in the mean time they're incredibly good at their job and they all have a heart of gold. If there was anything I could say to improve this place, the ONLY thing would be: please please please bolster up the coffee a bit as it's about as weak as it can come. Went to Blue Plate for breakfast during a family visit to Idaho. It was so good, we went back the next morning for breakfast again! People were friendly, food was great, funny they recognized us on day 2 and welcomed us, as if we were regulars! A couple of gals hugged our kids! What a warm place! Gets crowded on the weekends during peak hours, it's a pretty small place. Prices are better than what we would pay at a regular place, like Denny's (which is nowhere as good!!) Well worth the wait! Now I know why my dad is a weekly regular!! Kids are ready to visit Idaho again, so they can go to The Blue Plate!! read more

My father and I decided to go to this place of for lunch. We went 20 minutes before closing so it was fairly slow. Walking in I was a bit skeptical, because atmosphere was not what I was expecting. HOWEVER!! I ordered the Cowboy Burger and I was not disappointed! Their side of sweet potato fries was delectible. I could have a whole bowl of those! The service was very great, and the prices are the best! You can easily by a meal for one under $10. A great family place, and I'll definitely be returning to Blue Plate Cafe. read more

Late breakfast this morning (after 10 am). Very busy which did tend to slow down meal delivery but not excessive. Ordered a Denver omelette which is done with 4 eggs and cheese is folded into the eggs rather than on top so cheesy goodness with each bite. Also with breakfast potatoes and 2 slices of toast. More than enough to request a small go box for me. I have never been here when it wasn't busy so that says a lot for the place. Cannot recall a bad meal here. The wife and I decided to give the blue plate a try. It was okay, nothing exceptional. We both got the #10 breakfast which has 2 eggs, 2 pieces of toast, fried diced potatoes, and a chicken fried steak. The portions were great, as was the service. I enjoyed the home made jam for my toast. The chicken fried steak was the worst I've ever had, it was rubbery and didn't have much flavor even with all the sausage gravy they smothered it in. The eggs were cooked over medium as I ordered them and the potatoes where good although hashed browns would've been my choice if I had the option. The atmosphere is the same as any of the many hole in the wall local diners of the area. The wife and I will continue eating at the owl cafe just a block or so away, it's the same atmosphere and price but better food. read more

We live in Calif., I have friends that live in Post Falls, they took us to Blue Plate Cafe for breakfast once, we loved it... now when we come up to visit we always visit the cafe at least once while we are at our friends house. When we become Post Falls residents in the future Blue Plate Cafe will be our breakfast cafe. The portions are generous and the prices are good too. For whatever reason, The Blue Plate's Biscuits and Gravy is one of my favorite meals on Earth. Can't have it anywhere else. This stuff is the shiz, let me tell you - #13 with bacon. If you've ever thought to yourself, "I wish my cat loving grandma would turn her house into a restaurant that serves breakfast until 2pm", then think no further, because the Blue Plate Cafe has turned your thoughts into a reality. It's a pretty standard greasy spoon breakfast diner. The prices are on the cheap side, the option list for what kind of bread you can have toasted is too long for it's own good, and a cup of coffee is bottomless. I like that they serve hashbrowns, and not potato squares, like a disturbing amount of north Idaho breakfast diners only do. The server was very nice, and helpful, but a little too up in my business for early morning. I need a couple cups of coffee before small talk with strangers. The decor is mostly cat themed. The walls, shelving, and tables have little cat trinkets all over them. They're the kind you'd pick up at any Goodwill across the United States. Next time I go in there I'll try to remember to bring a cheapo cat statue to add to their collection. read more

Meh. Upon walking in, a matronly server rolled her eyes at us and sort of snorted toward an empty table. She frowned the entire time. The menu is standard bacon and eggs food done well. The food is pretty good if you don't mind picking hairs out of it. The place is clean, though super knick knacky decor clutters it. The open kitchen and waitress slamming dishes into the bus cart makes for a cafeteria atmosphere. It's clearly a popular place, maybe just went on a bad day. No stars. Awful service. Asked if they have anything gluten free and the hostess snapped, "no" and walked away. The waitress (or owner) came and was equally as rude.No suggestion as to what they could modify or what might be safe. This is not a weight loss issue, my husband has celiac disease and cannot have gluten. We'd already ordered a diet coke, so left a couple of bucks and left. I'll never go back.
