The five companies were all professional and detailed in their quotes but Daniel from Coast to Coast Plumbing stood out. I was on a mission to get new pipes but he gave me so much more info during his visit that I had to pause and think about. This didn't benefit him at all He showed up on time and gave us several options. I listed only two below. 1 Re pipe with Pex He disclosed the warranty is valid if the pipes fail. But with incorrect pressure (too high) it can damage the pipes and cause flooding thus cancelling warranty. This was important info. However they offer to come out annually to do check ups There is drywall repair to consider. Depending on the work involved that would be determined after the repipe. Quote was the most reasonable one and 50% less than the highest 2. Purchase a leak detector unit and monitor for leaks. He leaned toward this suggestion. He noted that the house occupied by my 89 year old mother would get extremely dusty and no matter how much they cover and protect she will be exposed to it. They have to cut walls etc to get to pipes. He also recalled her lung issues. (What a memory !) He also stated the drywall restoration after the cut outs to repipe can be costly Without saying it (important mom's quality of life ) he laid out the best case scenario for us. We will postpone the re pipe and in the near future go with the less invasive method of monitoring for leaks. Purchase the Moen leak detector and have Daniel install . It makes sense, and is the best step forward I will update once we go forward with that. I highly recommend Daniel and Coast to Coast . Consults(I got info worth $$$ ) and again even though I have not had work done YET I would use them in any plumbing situation Note Coast to Coast Plumbing -. They are a sister company to a restoration company so it's one stop shopping and you get all the expertise under one umbrella. Ritchie with RetroFlow came out, assessed the situation and was able to excavate the soil from around and under the driveway several feet to the middle of the driveway to get to the Suppression line and repair the line without having to break up or remove any of the driveway. Cheyne came out to take a look the next day. Younger guy who was super nice and surprisingly knowledgeable. After talking to him for a bit it sounds like he's been working on complex industrial plumbing builds for a number of years and just recently struck off on his own to start his own plumbing company. He was friendly, quoted me a fair price up front and was licensed and insured so I gave him a shot. I'm glad I did as he did a great job and I ended up using him for more plumbing items than originally planned. With the first job, there was a small complication with my main water supply shutoff from the city street not fully turning the water off that complicated his ability to complete a portion of the job. Cheyne said he had a workaround that would probably do the trick if needed, but it would still be a good idea to call Mesa Water to come out and replace their valve at the curb. He gave me a few tips about what to say which must have been all the right things as Mesa Water jumped right on it and I had a new main valve installed by early afternoon the same day at no charge (I guess I pay them plenty already for my water service and it probably helped that it was a weekday, but I was impressed nonetheless). Once everything was good from the city water connection, Cheyne quickly knocked out moving and replacing my hose bib, installing a brass backflow for my sprinkler connection and suggested I add an in-line valve for my sprinklers to the backyard. It was a great idea and he didn't even upcharge me for it since it was just a little add on. Solid customer service. Since he was already there, I figured I would have him take a look at my water heater which I suspected was on its last legs. I had already been considering replacing it since I knew there was a big rebate being offered by the gas company for switching to tankless. After looking up which models got the best rebate he was able to confirm which would work for my plumbing configuration and hot water needs and found a supplier that had it in stock. I gave him the green light and we scheduled to have it installed later that week. He came back and knocked it out at the day/time he said he would. works great and we now have unlimited hot water. A couple weeks later, I noticed water dripping out from under our kitchen sink. After investigating I found the previous homeowner had a jenky plumbing set up where multiple different kinds of pipes that were loosely sitting inside each other and not even able to be properly tightened down. Called Sheldon Plumbing and Cheyne came out and helped me out again. I think I've found my go-to plumber.

Waterfront Plumbing (the father, Vicente) was available and they came out and provided me with a quote $650. Vicente verbally explained that there would be, "extensive digging required to reach and inspect a leaking pipe" in my front yard. Hearing his explanation of the work I assumed this job would require several hours. I agreed based on the description and details. However, To my surprise, there was NO digging literally ZERO, and he finished the job in 45 minutes. When I questioned him about the obvious discrepancy between what was verbally told to me and what was delivered on top of the fact it took less than an hour, I was met with, " you could have gone with someone' else." I was shocked Vicente stood firm on the $650. Lesson learned, we did receive an additional quote for $250-350 for the same work. $10 PVC pipe cost, but again based on the verbal description provided by Waterfront, we believed that the other plumber was grossly underestimating the extent of work required. Then we had a family friend with their own reputable plumbing business (not in SD, but OC) urge us to say something b/c we were definitely over charged. I hope this encourages others to ask for a detailed list of tasks and work on paper with a cost breakdown. I know we'll do that next time.
