However, they jumped on their horse (their cool white van) and were at mum's house w/in the hour. They diagnosed the problem within 15 minutes, explained everything in detail so my mother understood the problem, and then offered multiple solutions along with the cost associated with each solution. The patience they showed was a step above. To top it off, they didn't have the part my mother needed but managed to use some sort of magic to acquire the part within the hour. From the initial phone conversation to a new sink took less than 3 hours! Reasonable, super personable, and efficient. What more can you ask from your plumber? Dynamic was in fact, dynamic. Waterfront Plumbing (the father, Vicente) was available and they came out and provided me with a quote $650. Vicente verbally explained that there would be, "extensive digging required to reach and inspect a leaking pipe" in my front yard. Hearing his explanation of the work I assumed this job would require several hours. I agreed based on the description and details. However, To my surprise, there was NO digging literally ZERO, and he finished the job in 45 minutes. When I questioned him about the obvious discrepancy between what was verbally told to me and what was delivered on top of the fact it took less than an hour, I was met with, " you could have gone with someone' else." I was shocked Vicente stood firm on the $650. Lesson learned, we did receive an additional quote for $250-350 for the same work. $10 PVC pipe cost, but again based on the verbal description provided by Waterfront, we believed that the other plumber was grossly underestimating the extent of work required. Then we had a family friend with their own reputable plumbing business (not in SD, but OC) urge us to say something b/c we were definitely over charged. I hope this encourages others to ask for a detailed list of tasks and work on paper with a cost breakdown. I know we'll do that next time.
