I have always liked blue Oak vet. Dr. Allen is great and really cares about the animals she takes care of. She gives you the best treatment and does not try to gouge or upsell you on every little thing. My only complaint is the same as a few other reviews I've seen on here which is everyone is very friendly except for the receptionists upfront. You just kind of stand there wondering if you're supposed to be helped or not and they do not greet or even look at you when you come in or leave or envelope acknowledge your presence in any fashion. I almost did not keep my appointment because the receptionist was so rude on the phone. Dr. Allen, I really hope that you read this and see that your customers really love you and most of your staff but please check your receptionist because it seams they may be losing you some business because of there apathetic and rude attitude toward customers. Aside from that I really can't say enough good things about Dr. Allen. Very attentive and takes the time to explain everything to you. read more

I was referred by Motherlode Feral Cat Alliance. Took 6 weeks of leaving messages to get an appointment. Had two cats spayed. I called to make additional appointments and receptionist said she was busy on another call she would call me right back.. That was 2 months ago, still waiting.. Everytime I call I get the same message, "we're at lunch (all hours of the day) have yet to receive a call back. In the meantime we have three new litters. read more

DO NOT TAKE YOUR PET HERE. I took my dog here for an unknown respiratory issue that was causing severe symptoms and causing my dog to go down hill fast. The Vet had no clue and showed no sense of urgency. After canceling my second appointment, she finally gave my dog -pain meds?? My dog could not breathe and she thinks to give him medication that tends to inhibit breathing further? So she finally referred us to a specialist; but the appointment was three weeks out. Now my dog has had a stroke and I'm sure will need to be put down. Quacks- everyone of them. So if you would like your animals claws trimmed or perhaps have them spayed or neutered, this might be your place. But if you're looking for a serious animal doctor for a serious diagnosis-do not go here. read more

Super friendly staff, awesome experienced Veterinarian. My best friends nose was peeling the black skin off and the "other" vet I went to had no idea what it was and finally Id had enough. I asked a dear friend who knows both and said absolutely take him to Blue Oak. Dr Allen knew what it was immediately and prescribed a treatment program which has produced darker moist skin on his nose. I would recommend this vet to care for your best friend. My Golden was having seizures and needed to be put down. He appeared to be in great pain and was frothing from his mouth. The receptionist carefully eyed the calendar and suggested I bring him back the next day. I mentioned he was about to die. Dr. Mary is great. I mean that. This has nothing to do with her or the other staff. But we unfortunately are no longer using this vet due to Addy at the front desk. I was hesitant to write this review, but today is the second time in a two months span, and prior to it, that she has been unprofessional and even nasty. She'll help you if she feels like it... I have a feeling Dr. Mary has know idea how her receptionist acts when she's not present. Our experience with Addy is not rare, we have heard many others within the county receive the same poor customer service from her. She is immature, rude, and impatient. It's shocking. Addy is not a good rep for this hospital or Dr. Mary and the rest of the staff. We've taken our two dogs, and three cats here, sad to leave, but so worth it to never have to ask Addy for anything again. 1. She has intentionally hung up on us. 2. She is not detail oriented. In fact, she's just completely unorganized and could care less. 3. She makes Blue Oak come off as money hungry, when Dr. Mary truly does care for the animals. Dr. Mary is awesome. We switched to Jackson Creek Vet and the front ladies are such sweethearts! They help us all the time, not just when they feel like it! They go above and beyond for us and our animals. They're a great reflection of Dr. Mitch, the vet at Jackson Creek. Being nice is the absolute minimum in customer service. If you can't be that consistently... good luck. read more

Wouldn't recommened this Vet Hospital to anyone. We woke up with a tennis ball size growth on our Lab's neck. Called Blue Oak and was told they couldn't see her until October, which is just over 2 months away. We called another Vet, that told us to get her in immediately, which we did. Came out she had been bitten by something. Blue Oak didn't care enough about our dog to see her on an emergency basis, even though they were our regular Vet. We will no longer go there and don't recommened them to anyone as they don't seem to care about your pets. read more

Been to this save vet and spent thousands of dollars for what we already know is the issue. Our dog has a bladder infection that is a genetic issue and the vet made us pay for every single visit even though we knew the medication needed. Still said blood panels needed to be done and $300 later every time prescribes the same medicine which is $75 that can be bought at Walmart for $20. Last visit got upset and vet agreed to just leave ongoing prescription so I wouldn't need an appointment. Called 6 days ago for it and 3 times since and no prescription. Every time I call there are no notes I called before and never get a call back. Why? Because I dont have an appointment set to pay $300 for the same thing. All money! Don't get me wrong she is a nice lady but then people at the front are rude and not helpful and all it is about is getting money not the problem of the dog read more

I've used other vets in the area and blue oak is by far the best in every way. The staff are kind and friendly as well as the prices being very reasonable. No surprises when it comes to cost. This is the best vet in the world. Mary Ellen took care of our family of 5 Chihuahuas till we lost our last one Boo, he was 21. He loved her. We love her, her compassion for animals are 5 star, he compassion for people are the greatest. We would not have known what to do without Mary Ellen, she now see our new baby Leon. 3 years old and he love's her to death. It has been nice to keep her it in the family. Booked an apt for my German Shepherd dog. When I Walked in there were no places to sit. The room was filled with dogs, a few of them very big. They lunged at my dog as I walked in. I said the waiting room was too full of animals but the 4 girls behind the desk kept their heads down and would not look me in the eye. Even if the cost is reasonable, a badly run vet hospital can cost more in the end. (if something would have happened in the waiting room.) read more

This is where we take our dogs and cats as it's closest to where we live. We like the vet and her assistants and also that there is just one vet so you always know who you'll get. She's been good to the numerous pets in our extended family. We prefer the smaller vet offices on the theory that there are fewer sick animals in there spreading diseases. The rest of the staff is nice and we've never had a problem with them; and they have good shot clinics at low cost. read more

Only clinic in Amador County that has 1x mo vaccine clinics. I'm able to get the Rattlesnake Vaccine for my pups without having to do an exam which is a huge plus. Also a huge thank you to Dr. Mary who saw my girl last minute on a vaccine clinic day. It was crazy busy; she treated her split toe nail which saved us a trip to Sacramento and extra long wait l. Glad to know we have a back up clinic in the area. Staff is also super nice even on crazy busy days. read more

This is our vet of choice in the Jackson area. The staff are exceptional, as is Dr. Mary. They are thorough, compassionate and don't try to nickle and dime you to death like the other one does. 2 days before Christmas our beloved house cat had something horribly wrong, and when we explained his symptoms, Dr. Allen knew exactly what it was and agreed to meet my son (his beloved fur baby) and make certain of the diagnosis. It was a terrible night and my son was devastated to have to do the only humane thing. Dr. Mary is so very amazing, the office always sends cards of sympathy too, which is a nice touch and heartfelt. The office is small and intimate, just right for the old time care and compassion feel, with all the modern knowledge and skills. The shot clinic is always packed, so go early, but they are quick and efficient and even with a line, the wait is short. We can't recommend them highly enough, the care is excellent and you feel like you and your pet are in hands that care and take the time to make you feel welcome and that you matter. read more

We love Dr. Allen! She obviously cares deeply about the animals. As soon as she walks in, she gets down on the animal's level, touches them gently, and speaks to them in a soft, soothing voice. Her movements are slow & deliberate and even our scaredy-cat is at ease with her. We have four cats and a shih tzu and they all like her. The staff are always friendly and helpful as well. We took our Maltese to Blue Oak Vet late at night for an emergency visit, and the Dr we saw was Dr. Mary Allen. She was great. I think my husband and I were in worst condition than our dog. He had a seizure, she treated him, gave him a shot to quiet him down. We were there from 11:00 to 12:30. Our little guy is doing well. He saw his regular vet afterwards, but I can't say enough about how pleased we were with Dr. Allen. read more

This review is not intended toward the dr, she was very very sweet and patient as well as caring. My sister and I took our dog in to get neutered recently, and the experience was far far from good. The front desk lady is absolutely awful. The older woman, not the younger one. I see many people have complained about her, I am not surprised. From the moment we walked in she was so incredibly rude. She was very short with us, no hello, no care at all. You can tell she is absolutely miserable. I understand that times are tough right now but there is no excuse. The first tech was very nice, and the second one when we picked him up, I believe her name was Shelby was very nice and caring as well. She seemed very patient and welcoming. During the time of picking my dog up he had been barking after getting neutered, I overheard the front desk lady saying she "couldn't hear herself think" referring to my dog barking. (Which she said he had just started barking, so it wasn't even that long even though that shouldn't matter at a VET) Working at a vet clinic you should expect to get used to barking, clearly this awful lady should be doing something else with her life career wise that does not involve animals or customer service. Not a lot to choose from there. The last vet tech that spoke to us, she was a blonde young woman made me really uncomfortable. She told me that my dog got a bit snippy when they began to try and get started. If you work at a vet, again you should expect that when animals are not comfortable and are being messed with by strangers they will get snippy. She then began to go on about how my pup was just a lot to handle and very strong. I know by all means my dog is strong and can be a lot but you should never ever make someone feel like this at a vet! If you can't learn to handle bigger dogs then it's probably not the best profession for you. Or you should have someone else handle it and not be involved with the owner either since you don't know how to speak to them. Not all dogs are 20 lbs. hopefully for the sake of other people bringing their animals here they can get a new person at the front desk, which I doubt they will since she has been there forever, and talk some sense into the tech that wasn't able to "handle" our dog. (Old English bulldog) we will not be back here clearly, and we were incredibly uncomfortable. Thankful for the other vet techs and the dr that made the visit a little bit better. So unfortunate considering everyone else was very nice! read more

The main reason I am leaving this review is because of the customer service I always receive when I call in or visit this office. The doctor and technicians are good but the receptionists always have a very rude tone. This has not just been one occasion. It is every time. The other day I had called and was left on hold for a literal 10 minutes so I decided to hang up and call back just in case someone had forgotten to pick up the line. The woman who answered the second time was extremely rude to me even though I was incredibly nice for having waiting so long on hold. Her main point was that they were bust and I would be helped as soon as possible, which I get, but no need to be so rude. My call was then picked up about 30 seconds later by someone else. Makes me think I was actually forgotten to be on hold but either way..... The receptionist staff could really use some help in the customer service department. This is just one example. Dr. Mary is a wonderful person as well as a brilliant vet; it's evident how much she genuinely cares about every animal that she sees, and the staff are equally kind, caring and efficient. Furthermore, this is the single most reasonably-priced vet that I've ever been to; they can even provide approximate prices in advance of a procedure, which is particularly helpful for those of us in the 'economically-challenged' category. We loved Blue Oak and would never have left except that we moved. Dr. Mary and the staff took exceptional and loving care of our many animals (and foster kittens) over at least 10 years. We were especially impressed by Dr. Mary's honest and flexible approach to medical issues, and her willingness to give options and take a less invasive (or expensive) approach if we wished it. This is the very worst vet hospital possible. These people only want money and will treat any animal regardless of whether the animal will live or die. They will continue to do treatments and if you can't pay they keep your pet and put it up for adoption. Also when you bring in your pet they do not even allow you to go into the exam room. I can't praise the staff at Blue Oak Veterinary Hospital enough, particularly Dr. Mary Allen. When my 20-year-old cat was at the end of her life, Dr. Allen didn't try to talk me into expensive procedures to prolong my kitty's life, like my last vet did. When the time came to euthanize my cat, Dr. Allen showed compassion and hugged me a long time. It was unexpected and much appreciated. I highly recommend her, and my cat liked her too! read more

My chihuahua mix was delivered by Doc Mary, so I know her actual birthday. That little ball of fur is now 6 and has been my service dog since she was about 3. Doc Mary is the heart of Blue Creek. She loves her patients, she sits down on the floor and plays with them. My dogs have no idea they just were examined. Doc Mary has such compassion and enormous empathy when it is time to make that heartbreaking decision. Dr. Mary Allen has been our standard poodles' vet since very early on. She is very sensitive, caring, approaching them very respectfully. She gives choices and is very knowledgeable about a great many things from her years of experience. One of our dogs went for cancer surgery and then, later, the other had a surgery for a uterine infection. The staff is thorough and courteous, and I appreciate their genuine concern. read more

i am an animal lover. i have bottle fed kittens for the last 6 years in the bay area and have recently moved into the vicinity of blue oak. upon referral from my realtor, i brought 2 of my 5 critters there yesterday for attention. i have never felt better care at a vet hospital, as a human, and for my babes. forgive my spelling, natasha responded to my onboarding, getting after transferring my critters information from other vets with aplomb. alissa was sensitive to the chaos i brought into the office, with grace. shelby was so kind and generous with my boys, welcoming them into the exam room and gathering their information. and angelina cut my boys nails - their first time and they are adults - with kindness and grace for their dramatics (no wounds, just fear). mariah gathered them in her arms for their exams. dr allen not only checked them out - sure felt like competently to me, and my md father who was there - but also offered what i should pay attention to relative to the health of my pups in this new territory, AND also heard that i love to hike, and gave me suggestions for where to go around here, so personal...... and all of this? every person that i interacted with shared with me eye contact. and for a retired psychotherapist, this care was golden. i HIGHLY RECOMMEND blue oak. read more
