I was told I couldn't buy a fish until my tank was set up first. (And cycled). The young lady with the nose piercings and says she is a manger is rude, condescending and has a severe attitude problem. We have had aquariums for over 50+ years. We know the care, upkeep, nutritional needs of our fish. We know what sizes of fish and aquariums and their upkeep it takes. To be rudely asked questions about our system was uncalled for especially while being rudely grilled about it. We finally got out fish but we were told no warranty on the fish because of the size of our tank (55 gallons) And it's only a 30 day warranty and it's not going to outgrow the tank in 30 days. read more

This store is not Customer Service friendly anymore, the one cashier is extremely rude, he wasn't concerned about me getting the correct price on an item, it was a clearance item that was in the wrong area on the shelf, he seemed annoyed I brought it to his attention. Even the locals are amazed when we tell them where we take our pups for their cuts. We have two beautiful schnauzers, Luna (standard) and Star (mini), and they're always greeted by name and groomed with love and care. We've never experienced long waits for drop-off or pick-up, and when we do pick them up, we get a detailed report card about their visit. Your dog grooming is way overpriced and definitely not worth what you guys charge. 2nd and 3rd time have been to buy fish but unable to because the employees feel my lovely 20 gallon tank with all the lovely fish decor is not as good as their over crowded tank of nothing but fish dead and alive. I took my mini labradoodle dog for a grooming 3/19/25 and he was tramatized there and today I found a scrape on his balls that was so deep I am going to have to him to the vet. He was acting so strange and so uncomfortable with himself. I have never seen him act like he has been acting. I want to warn people to not take your animals there because they will not be treated right or well. I have been to friendly and helpful petcos. This Martel branch is not one of them. The staff can't be bothered and if they are bothered by you, the client, they can barely restrain their indifference if not contempt. I'm 88 years old with hip bursitis and the young woman who led me to cat litter made zero attempt to carry the 20 lb box of litter I needed. The cashier couldn't have been less helpful either. I made a 45 min. trip to buy a male mouse to mate with a female. I wanted a white male but they were out so I was going to settle for a brown and white mouse. They took a long time to help me because they were busy with no customers, just talking with one another. Then the rude dude there wouldn't sell me a mouse and said that they were pets. I said yea, I'm planning to breed them. He said that wasn't a pet. What the heck. Who owns this store? I bet the owner would have sold me a mouse. They have a large selection of product in their store. However, it seems to be a little more expensive than other locations like Walmart and online. Also, when you try to check out and you don't want to use your phone number as a buyers program, they seem to be put out by it, I've been in there several times and every time they ask me for a phone number I tell them I don't want to do that and their attitude seems to change. (while my husband was working because at the current moment I am under Dr care for recently fractured hip in multiple places so I am zero weight bearing). I did call ahead of time right after I placed the order to make sure my mother recieved help carrying out both bags of dog food weighing les then both bags, long story short they did NOT carry it out to the Jeep even after I called and SHE ASKED !!! Took our Shi-Tzu for a grooming appointment on Thursday May 2nd and not only was she there for over 5 hours but they called us saying we need to come pick her up and take her to the vet for an emergency. 5 stitches later as well as being traumatized our Gemma isn't herself. This is the kind of mistakes that can happen when over bookings are more important then your family members safety! When your appointment is a certain time you expect your family member to be done in an hour, hour and a half at the most and she sits in a kennel for over 5 hours and gets injured this is unacceptable on all levels. We will be contacting corporate and lawyers. Well 10 months have went by and when contacted by petco owners and officials, they are not standing by what they promised! 1. Up to 5 complimentary grooming's for Gemma and 2. lifetime Zoom Groom. 3. also a few complimentary classes for Gemma to make sure she was going to be ok. As stated before not everything they promised they did not honor! Very disappointing with the way they handled this horrible situation. My wife and I Waited 25 minutes to buy some fish for my sons first fish tanks. We were prepared to spend 150.00 on fish and accessories at this store. Over the load speaker they called for a aquatic specialist 4 times and still nobody. Then to add to the fun,3 ferocious German Shepard's barking, growling and lunging at customers were allowed to stay in the store without muzzles or being asked to leave. I've been taking my 13 year old Pomeranian here for about a year now. Our last visit was Friday. Kristin called me about an hour after I dropped off my dog. She informed me that she wouldn't be able to finish her groom because she matted all the way down to her skin and had fox tails. She suggested I take her to the vet, get her checked out, and have to me finish the groom that she started? It all sounded sketch but if the health of my dog was in danger I'd go through any length to be sure she was ok. After paying $127 for a checkup the vet told me she was perfectly fine and they could not finish cutting her hair. Not only was this totally embarrassing for me I'm also out money. Since after the pandemic the grooming area has gone nuts. They lost one of the best manager/groomers they have ever had. Well we had a scheduled appointment ( Do every 8 weeks) then the day before my appointment they called and canceled the appointment. Could not and would not schedule us for another 3.5 months. Mad but kept the appointment for the two dogs. Next appt I went in at 9:00 am to drop of the dogs (who are kennel together) They told me they couldn't and wouldn't take the dogs until there time (have always done this like most people who work). They were running behind and i had to wait until 12pm. Past my appt, then i came in 1/2 hour before and they still wouldn't take them . Talked to store mgr. Treated me like shit. No customer service at all. After 10 years. I left with my dogs never to return. They also did this to others, and still do. NO CUSTOMER SERVICE read more

Never shopping at this location again, nobody knows anything they give a bs answer to pretend they know what they are talking about. I bought a snail to go in my Betta fishs' tank from them, turned out to be dead becauseshe didnt check it kjst threw it into a bag (spent $4) took it back the next day nobody cared, I mean they switched it out but that's not the point don't sell dead animals so i brought the second one home and just a couple days later it is dead as well. The girl who is supposedly the aquatics "expert" is really rude and not helpful in any way. My mom asked about one of the live plants if she could propagate it, and the girl straight says to her, "I don't care what you do with it," talk about rude! I will never be buying a live anything from them every again I'd drive to somewhere like Lodi or Stockton. The three star rating is specifically for the dog grooming service. We have been bringing our Anatolian shepherd and great Pyrenees mix dog here since he was two months old. He's 13 months old now. The groomer we had initially was wonderful and our dog Jack loved her and felt very comfortable with her but unfortunately she had to leave to take care of her grandmother. His servicing was handed over to another groomer, Kricket, who Jack didn't seem to really take to very readily. Which is odd because he loves everybody. But I figured he'd be fine once they got to know each other. He didn't smell like he had been bathed well and had that "wet dog" smell you don't expect after grooming. The second time I took Jack for grooming, which we did every month, I had to wait 15 minutes because Kricket was at lunch. The other groomer eventually took Jack back to a kennel to wait for Kricket. I asked her to please tell Kricket to take special care when she's bathing him so he doesn't smell bad.She called 2 hours later to say Jack was ready. When I picked him up he was still shedding like crazy despite the shed-release shampoo supposedly being used. That has never happened before. I discussed the lateness with Kricket and her only response was saying several times she had had to take her lunch. Trying to explain that the client and dog shouldn't have to wait for her to return for the appointment I asked her to call me when she's running late and it wouldn't bother me at all. She kind of rolled her eyes and said ok. I also asked why it only took 2 hours to groom Jack when the other groomer took no less than 3 hours but I got no answer. He's huge...135 pounds of adorableness and it takes a long time to bathe and brush him appropriately. THAT'S why he was shedding! No way she did the job right. She also told me that because she was five months pregnant she would not be able to do Jack's grooming the following month and he would have an alternate groomer. I told her I understood. I got a call today from PetCo that the alternate groomer had quit and they didn't have any back ups. They called me later to tell me that it's going to be over a month and a half before they can put Jack in. I said go ahead and give us that appointment in late February. Then I get a phone call back a few minutes later to tell me that she had read the schedule incorrectly, because apparently schedules are difficult to read, and she was going to have to cancel that appointment. Not only have we spent well over $100 plus $20 tip every month for Jack to be groomed but we have also spent several hundreds of dollars every month for his food, toys and special chews. I am pretty disgusted and disappointed at the lack of professionalism and loyalty this particular PetCo has to their clients. I don't know if we were canceled because I complained about her being late or if they just don't pay their groomers enough for them to stick around. Regardless, I don't think I can recommend this Petco grooming at this particular store to anyone. It's sort of makes me nervous to think about the abrupt change in Jack's behavior from the one groomer that he liked to the next. I certainly hope he didn't have a bad experience that he might transfer to other groomers. read more

I had just bought a bearded dragon with no knowledge of how to take care of it and they didn't leave me with any unanswered questions. They prepared me with the supplies I'd need to take care of it. As part of a small community we want to make sure that this message gets out there and people are aware. At our last experience having our dog groomed at Petco, we witnessed a situation of verbal abuse towards one of the other dogs being groomed at the time. We were picking up our small poodle-mix who is very friendly and excitable, and there was a larger, poodle-mix looking dog waiting on the other side of the counter who was whining. This dog just wanted attention and probably to greet our dog; however, the woman helping us, we're assuming she was the grooming department manager, turned and yelled the dog's name followed by "shut up!" I was complete appalled and shocked at this outburst. If the workers are willing to show this kind of behavior towards the dogs out in front of customers, what is happening in the back?! This is not our first poor experience with Petco grooming but it will absolutely be our last. read more

I took my 12 year old Havanese into Petco, Martell store for a grooming appointment. It was her "free groom". I got a call about 45 minutes later saying she had a rash under her arms and they could not trim her. Needless to say with the hot weather she really needed a trim. When I got back over there to pick her up- she had no rash or bumps under her arm. When I tried to get the store manager to feel he said no. I turned on my video camera on my phone and asked why- he turned away and said, "I am calling the sheriff because you are impeding business". Now, they have me rescheduled for September 10th- I may go and just sit there when they bathe her. After the free trim......I WILL NEVER USE PETCO AGAIN! read more

I went in simply to buy feeder mice for my snakes I already own, well doing so I walked around first cause I love the selections pet I offers for snakes, well I see they have one 50% off and ask for help purchasing and the manager comes to help me and asks if I have an enclosure for it, so I proceed to tell her not at the moment but I have a tub at home i Put my snakes in when I breed them til I can go buy one that I don't have room in my car to buy the stuff for an enclosure right now. Me and my Chihuahua, Hoss went there today to look for a new harness. He is only 4 1/2 pounds and it's hard to find a small enough harness that fits him. Leslie, one of the sales associates helped us find the perfect one. Hoss ended up with a harness that is for hamsters, something I never would have thought of. I am impressed how Leslie went out of her way to help us. The other two sales associates in the store were helpful as well. It's refreshing to see there are store employees like those at Petco who still give excellent customer service! I will always go there to shop for my pets needs. read more

A previous review complained that the bathrooms here were closed. Well they are open now. But they should have stayed closed. It was early in the day. The bathroom in general was filthy. The trash was overflowing, the paper towel dispenser was empty and the hand soap dispenser was empty. My puppy Tug loves it here. We started to take him to puppy the classes that they offer. At first I was sceptical because I already have two Aussies at home that are very well trained by my own hand, but with the help of training from Josh, Tug is progressing much faster and is learning to be very social and calm around people and dogs. The classes are also very flexible, Josh was able to work with my busy schedule to fit us in every week and if something came up it was no big deal just a small reschedule. All in all Tug loves it there and the employees are always nice and helpful if we have any questions. read more

I took my cat to the Jackson, CA Petco shot clinic November 2016 and was happy with the professional care given by the vet. Fast forward to this year: I've been receiving reminder emails for the past two months that it's time for my cat's shots at the Jackson Petco. I work full time so I calendared the date and time for this shot clinic because it was conveniently on the weekend. I cancelled other holiday weekend plans to be home for the shot clinic. I received an email reminder again on November 20 to come to the shot clinic. When I arrived this morning there was no sign of the shot clinic set up. An employee apologized and said the clinic had been cancelled and there was a coupon being offered, but had no idea how I would get that coupon. Seriously? What lousy customer service. Where was the notification email? This was very frustrating and I'll be seeking vet care elsewhere. read more
