What a surprise to find this place in a little community...totally outstanding with their baked goods and speciality drinks

I made the mistake of only eating some fruit before my road trip from Vancouver to Kelowna and planning to grab something en route. Minus the planning part. Thanks to my Yelp app, I was able to find this place which was open and had good reviews. It's quite a large space and I fully understand why it appeals to locals as well as travelers. They have a ton of comfy/cozy looking chairs and sofas to sit around. I appreciate that they highlight the fact that they serve fair trade coffee so you can enjoy with a good conscience. I appreciate they had a few healthy (but creative) salads. What I didn't like was the staff. The girls at the counter yell your name when your order is ready. In a busy coffee shop, this will quickly grate your nerves. How can you possibly want to curl up with a book or a friend in one of the comfy chairs to constantly hear someone's name being yelled out every 20 seconds? I also didn't like feeling rushed at the sugar/cream counter as the employee who came up behind me to clean seemed to want to push me out of the way so she can get to work. Hello? Customer paid for coffee and needs sugar. Geez. I also saw her taking away items off tables including a woman's full bottle of water (which she was upset about when she returned from the restroom) and another customer's cup of still-hot coffee which other customers said they thought was still being enjoyed by someone who had gotten up to grab a newspaper. Wow. Slow down eager girl. The sandwich options didn't look very appealing and I didn't like the idea of having my food microwaved since everything is prepared early and refrigerated. Instead, I got a quinoa greek salad which after adding some salt was pretty good. Together with my medium drip coffee, my total was around $6. The coffee was good -- maybe next time it's worth stopping here for coffee but not lingering for the atmosphere. read more

I've always stopped here on my way through hope as the coffee is good but of course you pay specialty coffee price. I was very disappointed last time as the bathrooms were closed. In my opinion this is just lazy as they don't want to clean it during the Covid times. I realize their hallway is small but you can wait in the seating area until the bathroom is free; there is always some kind of method you can employ for that. Having a bathroom at a cafeteria is a must! Yes there are bathrooms at the park across the street but what if you're stopping with someone who has disabilities or can't run across the street. I am paying for food I expect a bathroom. Don't be so lazy and fix this issue. read more

This seems to be the nicest cafe in the area. I had the soup and scone combo (I chose minestrone soup and a cheese scone) and it was delicious. If you would like butter with your scone, be sure to ask for it at the counter. Service was quick for me but my friend had to wait for about 10 minutes for her breakfast burrito. On a sunny day, get your order to go and eat at Memorial Park across the street. read more

Great place for soup, sandwiches, dessert and specialty coffee and tea drinks. Beer is also served here as well. Service is friendly and portion sizes are generous. Great atmosphere and lots of seating. Highly recommend! read more

Honestly wasnt as good as the reviews had raved about but they were good. I think for the price i paid for my meals and the portions i got didnt really add up. I do remeber getting the chicken soup and was pretty disappointed as it was 99% rice and 1% chicken and veggie stock bits. I dont know if i would go back for the food but drinks were good read more

I frequently pass through Hope as I commute between the Lower Mainland/ Vancouver and the Okanagan Valley. The strip of fast food joints along the Old Hope Princeton Highway diversion gets pretty old after a few passes. That's why I head to the Moose. Fresh baked goods, great made-on-premises soups and sandwiches, friendly service and the obvious steady support of locals gives the Moose great character and quality. My favs are the scones and muffins. read more

Second time there Augst 1st, in the past 3 years and gave it a second chance to get two decent late.

Very good espresso: it would be competitive in downtown Vancouver. Good paninis and baked goods. Good service. Not the coziest space. It appears to be where locals go as well. It's open till 9. I consistently stop here going and coming on the highway: but Hope has only one exit so don't miss it! read more

Everytime I pass through Hope, I always make sure to have my caffeine level at a low, so that I can be sure to take advantage of this cafe. The pastries are pretty great thing to stock up on when you're on a long roadie. This passed weekend I started my journey from Victoria at 5am without coffee. By the time I rolled into Hope at 9:30am, I was long overdue. Eyes closing and head nodding, I was elated to finally arrive. Upon entering, I found the entire place full..wall to wall people. We stopped at Hope on our way to Vancouver because we were hungry. Serching for a place to eat we found this place on Yelp, it had 4.5 stars. From the beginning, things looked grimm. The line was long, even though 6 workers were behind the bar. The food was expansive for what we got, but that was ok because we had nowhere else to go. The problems began when the woman at the counter "forgot" to give me my change (about 7 dollars), and I had to insist on the fact. After that she sent me to a table with 3 plates, and I had to ask of she could arrange a tray. But the troubles only began. The cashier gave me a number device and said that it would vibrate one the order will be ready. Unfortunately, by "the order" she ment only the sandwich, not the drinks. After about 10-12 minutes, I walked over and asked what about our drinks, but the worker only said that they are backed up and it would take some time before it will be ready. The thing is, the drinks were already on the counter, they just forgot to tell me. So I had to wait 5 more minutes in front of the bar just to discover the my drinks were, by that time, a bit colder and looked horrible. The sandwich was just ok, nothing to write about. Whenever we are in Hope we go to the Blue Moose for coffee. Get a unique blue moose cookie. Nice patio outside. The breakfast scones are delicious. The patio seems to be dog-friendly too. read more

Second visit to this little gem. Located in the main downtown area of Hope across from a beautiful park and there is lots of parking.They have excellent coffee and the bakery selection is amazing, I would need a month to sample everything they offer. read more

Probably the best cranberry chicken quesadilla I have ever hard, highly recommended if you are passing through the town!!! Food is a bit pricey for what it is, but then again, they have clean washrooms so this is the perfect stopover cafe during a long drive. read more

A nice gem of a coffee shop in Hope, and seems to be well-established on the tourist track through town - a van disgorged a large group of folks who eagerly formed up a long line that reached the door. We were already enjoying our very good cup of coffee and a muffin at the window seats, thank goodness! Hope has large wood sculptures scattered throughout the town, a couple of which are visible from the Blue Moose window. Sit, inhale the smell of nicely roasted beans, and relax! You're drinking fair trade, shade-roasted coffee from a local company - a good deed, indeed! read more

Needed a pick-me up to tide us over on a long car ride. Huge place with lots of tables! Great selection of food: scones, muffins, soups, sandwiches, salads, etc. They make your standard coffee bar type of drinks. Their tea was from "Metropolitan Tea Company" which is known for their large variety of flavours. I ended up having the chickpea salad and a cup of oolong tea and my husband had drip coffee and a scone. Everything we ate was delicious. The only caveat of this place was the price - it was a little expensive for the amount of food you got. I would definitely return! It beats the other fast food options or greasy spoons in Hope. read more

We ate lunch in here after a long road. We ordered chicken noodles soup and butter squash cream. Both of them were great. I really enjoyed it and would probably go back. The price a bit more costy than in Alberta but well priced for BC. read more

A little overpriced but the food was good. I ordered the banh mi and their in house kombucha. I had low expectations for the banh mi because this wasn't a Vietnamese restaurant but I was pleasantly surprised. The banh mi was actually SO good and tasted authentic. Probably one of the better banh mi's i've ever had. It was a little weird that they served it with tortilla chips though. Their kombucha was really refreshing but tasted really vinegar-y. It was pretty good though. The staff were friendly, even while hustling through a huge line. The café was super busy. One thing that annoyed me was that my group of four had no where to sit because people either in pairs or by themselves would take up more seating than needed. Two of us sat at a table for 2 while the other 2 people in our group stood (we were waiting for our food at the moment). A couple beside us had no problem watching us awkwardly wait while they were sitting a table for FOUR. There was also a low table with a bunch of lounge chairs around it and two old men sat in the seats with at least a seat or two beside them so no one else could sit there. We ended up having to leave the café to find a place outside to eat. This isn't the cafe's fault because it's first come first serve but it was just rude and painfully incognizant behavior from some of the customers there that left a bad impression. So if you're wanting to eat in, you better be willing to wait patiently for a seat or sit next to strangers in a non-cafeteria style cafe lol. read more

Very well executed lunch cafe! Panini sandwiches were SO GOOD and come with either an apple or tortilla chips. It was busy but they have a great system so service was quick and friendly. Whenever I come through this area again, I'll be making a point to stop here! read more

I love this place! The best rooibos latte ever. Cute interior. Lots of organic tea choices. They care about the environment (pasta sticks to stir drinks instead of wasting wood n using plastic n all, very cool). Only thing I would say is that the girls that work there sometimes have a long face, and it makes the experience a little less awesome. As far as I'm concerned, good customer service starts with a smile, and if you can't smile, at least don't mope, you're not paid for that. But it's like I said "sometimes". What a find in Hope! We had been on the road for hours and needed coffee so I turned to Yelp and found this little beauty! I had an almond milk latte and a handcrafted sandwich so I was able to avoid dairy. My son had a mooseshake and a delicious cinnamon bun. Then we walked across the street and enjoyed some time in a sunny Sunday at a nice little park. This place was great. Huge seating area. Clean. Friendly service. Had a Chicken and Cranberry Quesadilla that came with (very salty) chips and salsa - but it's more of a snack, not very filling and kinda pricey. The Chicken Gumbo which was incredibly salty, I do not recommend the soups. The Pumpkin Spice Latte was sweet - which is what I like - but my friend found it too sweet. Overall, a nice a café with lovely atmosphere. Would go again if passing Hope. read more

BEST IN THE WEST! I did not know li'l ole Hope had it in 'er. Golly, what a find! In the days of yore, every coffee place between Calgary and Vancouver, made it's swill out of a combo from used dishwater and a few caffea robusta beans. Y'know, the stuff instant coffee is made off? Nothing but caffea Arabica at the Blue Moose. Tour buses stop here and line-ups often reach out of the front door. But, this is no Greyhound place. In addition to 'designer' coffees, such as cafe latte and cappuccino, they have a a large display case of good things to eat. Choosing is difficult, cause one looks better than the other. Unlike Timmy's, The Blue Moose treats appear to be home-built. Seating is comfortable and I like to sit in a corner, enjoying cappuccino and internet. Although I must say the internet here is very slow and power outlets are about as scarce as robusta beans at the Blue Moose. read more

Had a fresh deli sandwich with chips and salsa, and an English breakfast tea fog latte. Was great! The chips were especially good. Seems like quite the hot spot in Hope. It's a great morning (and other times) coffee / recharge place, comfortable, quiet, and friendly.

Seems to be the best place to stop in Hope for a coffee, snack or a surprising range of other beverages. The interior could be brighter - it's very dark. Service can be a little slow but then we've typically been through at busy times and it's hard for a business like this design around the long weekend rushes. read more
