A Seattle icon! The 1934 Blue Moon Tavern is one of the oldest bars in the city, and anybody visiting should really hit it up. If you really want a taste of Seattle's rock history, this is the place to go! Nirvana played here in '91 and it's still rocking today. So glad to see some of my friends return here after almost 20 years! For a live venue, the lights and sound is really good and they live stream their shows online. But you can't beat actually walking in the same steps as Seattle rock idols and smelling that old beer and admiring the graffiti plastered walls. Plus the prices for alcohol are really reasonable ($4 Rainier, anybody?) and the bartenders are always friendly.

This place adds new meaning to the expression "if these walls could talk". This place has been around since just after Prohibition was repealed and has seen some very interesting characters come and go. I don't know if it's registered and protected as a historic landmark, but it should be because it really could easily be chewed up and spit up by Seattle progress in its unassuming near UDistrict location. Pretty much everything in all of the the reviews is true whether they are 1 star or 5 star. It's divey and old, and they have alot of live music. The service is whatever they feel like on any given night, and they know and are chatty with their regulars. It's not a place for a craft cocktail craze, but they have a range of brews and a selection of the hard stuff at higher than average dive bar prices. I hate this expression, but it is what it is. Love it or leave it; but if nothing else, go one time for the unadulterated appreciation of history.

For a dive bar, this was incredibly clean. Friendly bartender who managed any shenanigans. Great music. A very cool local Seattle vibe.

I have played here a few times and enjoy each moment. The environment is excellent. This venue would not advertise this event to I went and did it myself. Hope to see you there :)

It's a dive bar and dies it well. Live music some nights, I saw The Rams Rams this night. The beers on tap are better and more diverse that some upscale city bars. The decor is what you expect a lot of old posters and neon beers signs. You'll have a good time.

Stay Tuned played the Blue Moon back in 2004. This fellow might have been dancing like that before we started playing...

We've played the Blue Moon several times now. I'm a big fan of the place. There are a lot of really generic yuppy bars around Seattle, and more popping up all the time. The Blue Moon, on the other hand, should be the definition listed in Webster's Dictionary for "Dive Bar." I play bass with Stay Tuned (www.staytunedtheband.com). We're a tv tribute band. The Blue Moon took a risk on us early on in our career and let us play there. Is that saying much? Probably not, but I hold a special place in my heart for it just the same. The characters there... holy crap. It's like Christopher Lloyd studied there for his Reverend Jim character on Taxi. I posted a picture of one of the characters from one of our first shows there. The art on the walls is one of my personal favorites. Reminds me of the basement at CalArts, my Alma Mater. I knocked off a star because I've had to use the bathroom there. Oooh wow it's been a couple years and I still shiver at the memory. Loading in is always interesting -- we park in the alley for a while and wheel stuff in, the go find parking somewhere. At one point I was loading my equipment up and a black van pulled up right in front of me. A bunch of S.W.A.T. guys jumped out and ran right towards me, armed to the teeth. I nearly crapped myself. They continued on past me and tackled somebody behind me in the alley. I'm pretty sure the guy had just come out of the Blue Moon. So there you have it. You can go and enjoy live music AND sit in a crowd that may include public enemy #1.

A real dive bar. The interior looks almost like the place has been abandoned. Rotating clientele. It is what it is.

The best dive bar in Seattle. Talk to the old hippies, you will hear some interesting stories. Great place to see shows. 'Nuff said.

Cozy, warm & welcoming - with wooden booths and back bar - old world charm that can't be matched by today's cool contemporary restaurants. Vintage photos on the walls, and an old-fashioned community bulletin board in the back. It had a private room in the back - I reserved it a few times for larger gatherings. Yes, spaces like this are disappearing. On my last visit to the Blue Star - today- I met a kind man (Tracey Outlaw) who shared more Blue Star history with me. Thank you to Wendy Morales for many years of community service while running this wonderful institution. It will be missed~

I got the Top Gun but subbed Morningstar sausage for the bacon. The side of potatoes plus (also ordered no bacon) was really good too. They have lots of vegan and vegetarian options or mods too! My partner just thought his breakfast burrito was ok and could have used more seasoning or perhaps less potatoes, but overall he did like it. My mimosa was just kinda ok and honestly I probably would have liked the OJ on its own better. The service was mixed. Our server was great - the kitchen put bacon in my first side of potatoes and she apologized and fixed it right away. The front hostess however ignored us and 4 other people who were waiting for tables for almost 10 minutes when we walked in and answered the phone and walked off several times, only for us to find out we could just go seat ourselves immediately at the bar. All the other staff seemed great, though perhaps overwhelmed and harried (understaffing?). The ambiance at the bar was chill - we got to watch the game on the tv and there wasn't too much activity aside from servers grabbing drinks nearby from the very friendly bartender. Overall, I'm sad this spot is closing soon because I would definitely go back.
