Three years prior it was known as Blue Fish and the food was memorable and tasty. Now it's called Limon y Sal. The menu changed up a bit but still offers seafood. Service needs work. The good: - Located at the Grand Mayan, pool side. - Precautions are taken with covid. Servers wear masks. Tables are socially distanced. - You can sit outdoors and have a meal. - Guacamole and assorted cracker basket pair well together. The bad: - Nachos are horrible. Do not order unless you want to eat burnt tortillas doused in rancid oil. - Severely understaffed in one of the busiest locations. - Doesn't offer water. It must be bought. Went for lunch while hanging out by the pool. I had been a few times in recent years so was happy to be back until this experience.. I had sat down and ordered before a large table was being served, except, they received their appetizers and drinks before me. I chalked it up to minimal wait staff. The nachos I got as an appetizer didn't look right. Many chips were burnt to a crisp. Thinking nothing of it, I began picking at the middle parts but a couple bites in determined that they didn't taste right either. The person I was with agreed. To me, they tasted like the oil had been reused over and over. I waived down the server to express my dislike. He didn't seem impressed. Seeing other tables recieve a complimentary chip basket that we didn't get was strange, so I waived down another server to ask about it. The server we asked wasn't our guy so he passed on the memo and our guy returned annoyed by the request saying he had forgotten. Plus everything took so long.. Given that I had to switch out the nachos for something else, went with the mixed yellow ceviche (appetizer), which was really good and made up for all the earlier mishaps. My dining companion requested a grilled salmon burger. They had eaten it at another location on the property one night and compared the two; this fishy was much smaller in size. Yet, we made do. My ceviche was really good. There were lots of different kinds of seafood in it; scallops, octopus, grouper and salmon in a citrus marinade. It came with nothing but since we had a complimentary assorted chip basket, that's what I ate it with. Keep in mind that they have two menus; lunch and dinner. We stayed at the Vidanta resort, and just like most resorts they have everything from restaurants to shops, to entertainment, to pools so everything is at the tip of your fingers. We decided to check out the Blue Fish since we heard from a couple of people their ceviche was good. We decided to give it a try & see if the Blue Fish really lived up to its hype. Upon arrival , the restaurant was very modern , and the vibrant colors filled the room with its lavish surroundings. I loved the ambiance of the place. The service was excellent, and the ac was blasting which was really nice. I also loved the complimentary bucket of chips. It was different and had plantains and sweet potato chips on top of the tortilla chips. The 2 dipping sauces were both very good as well. Drinks Margarita: The margarita was okay. I was hoping they'd have a lime on the edge. It was a little bitter for my liking but it was drinkable. 3/5 Chavela: My God I think this would have to be the best Chavela I've ever tried. It had a nice balance of saltiness and was super refreshing. 5/5 Food Mixed Yellow Ceviche: This ceviche had a mix of different fish. It had scallop, octopus ,grouper ,fresh salmon, with a yellow Peruvian citrus chili sauce and cilantro .I loved the flavor. It tasted like it had coconut, ginger, and citrus. It was amazing. Had this twice because it was that good. MUST HAVE! 5/5 Peruano Ceviche: Carribean grouper, red onion , Monzano chili pepper , lime juice and cilantro . This one was okay. Just tasted very citrusy (lime ) felt like it was missing something. 3/5 Annato Crispy Calamari: This dish was Such a disappointment . The Calamari was burnt to a crisp and almost tasted like fried squid. It was too over cooked 1/5 Tacos Gobernador: I've never had shrimp tacos before and this one really blew Me away . The tortillas were fresh, the shrimp was marinated in chipotle Chile & the Oaxaca cheese tied everything together. It was amazing!5/5 Seafood Alambre tacos: I thought I would've been sick of tacos already but nope.They have so many different variations , why not try everything. This taco was a little unusual ( in a good way ) It had shrimp , octopus , calamari , and scallops cooked in bacon . Yes you heard me , bacon . Bacon makes everything taste better. The flavors meshed well together and the tomato avocado salsa made it exceptional.5/5 Overall this place was our go to since we were craving seafood a lot and the ceviche really hit the spot. The service here is amazing and our waiter Josue really gave us world class service . Our table kept rocking back and forth since the floor wasn't leveled and he took out a paper, folded it and stuck it under one of the legs and voila , problem fixed . 5 star service . Expensive but tasty 5 star resort fees. Ceviche portion was petite and 250 pesos for about 6 oz. Inside decor is minimalistic and not resembling anything like a 5 star resort feel. More like Disneyland decor. Meh Wait staff was mediocre and dropping the ball like lemons, drink watered down and huge chunks of ice for blended drinks. And the place ain't packed! Ate lunch here on our first day at the resort. I had the seafood taco's which were amazing. 3 different kinds; fish, shrimp, and a combination one that included octopus and calamari which was my favorite. Even my wife loves it and she does not like octopus and calamari. They gave different sauces for the taco's. Don't recall which one I liked the best. Prices were ok. Margarita's were good but on the small side. They brought out homemade chips that included tortilla and plantain chips with 2 different salsa's, but the salsa was in a tiny, tiny dish. This was our least favorite meal at the resort. It was still good but we wouldn't be dying to rush back there again. Some nights it seemed very busy and crowded with longer waits but we went on a Friday evening at 7 pm and got seated immediately. They were very few people there. The service was okay. Nothing special. For an appetizer we had octopus and it was too charred. The ends of the octopus just tasted like charcoal. The meatier ends were better but the charcoal taste lingered. We enjoyed the sweet potato chips and plantain chips in the bread bowl a lot. The four sauces that can with the bread bowl start from mild and get more and more spicy. Even the salsa verde, the least hot option, had a slight kick to it. The menu options had little symbols that accompanied the dishes stating if they were spicy, gluten free, vegan, etc. The fish tacos were very good but the sauce that accompanied it was so spicy but the dish was noted marked as spicy. We had the same issue with the shrimp po boy sandwich. The homemade tartar sauce that was on the sandwich definitely had a kick to it and really set in after eating the entire sandwich. The shrimp tacos were good but the tortillas were a darker color, more of a black or brown which was odd. The Cuban seafood torte sandwich was very good. The salad was delicious and good sized. Six of us went to Blue Fish for dinner just last week when staying at the Vidanta. I loved it, but at least two people in my group were not fans of seafood (crazy, I know) and there truly were only three things to enjoy if you didn't want seafood. Didn't bother me, but just fair warning for those who don't! The meal started off with two buckets of different kinds of chips, plantain, tortilla, sweet potato (so good!) and the table had about 6 different hot sauces, that was a lot of fun for us! Trying the different hot sauces. Our waiter was kind enough to bring around two MORE buckets of chips for those of us who were not keen on the seafood. My husband and I shared the salmon ceviche and truly, I haven't stopped thinking about it since. It was incredible. We each tried to take our time and savour it, but then wanted to eat it quickly so we could each eat the most of it. It was amazing. Highly recommend. For dinner I had the cuban sandwich and truly, I didn't love it. But the taters served with it and the sauce (Jalapeno aoili) was fantastic. I think I just made the wrong decision because I didn't care for the squid on the sandwich. My husband had the mahi mahi tacos, and I had one. They were really good! In addition, it was my father-in-law's 60th birthday celebration and they went all out. We got a little cake and they sang and made these firework like noises. Excellent meal. Everyone at our table enjoyed their food and I undoubtedly had the best ceviche I've ever had in my life and I've had a lot of ceviche. I ordered the Amarillo ceviche but with the flavors of the Asian one, make no mistake this is your best bet. The fish was cold, melted in your mouth, and was full of flavor! Me and my husband ate here every day eating different selections from their menu and when I tell you the food was great and the service was wonderful the Host Oswaldo made the every visit very pleasant. But to honest everyone working there was joyous! But the food delicious delicious delicious! From the seafood to the chicken. When I tell you they can make chicken taste like steak! great experience for our first dinner at this resort - the service was fantastic, we sat outside but the ambiance inside seemed great, too. My husband ordered the catch of the day - grilled salmon - per recommendation of our wonderful waiter, Gabriel, and it was the best salmon either of us have ever had. I got the grilled local fish tacos which came on blue corn tortillas and they were delicious, although surprisingly spicy. We both had mojitos which were amazing and finished the meal with the tres lèches cake - unbelievable.
