We went there to have a drink. We also had tacos de cabeza de cerdo. It was average; i was not impressed. Food takes a little longer. For drinks we had Rio de Cafe you can really taste the coffee not a sweet drink) and Tomate (not a sweet drink either, it has a spicy kick but enjoyable. Both were ok. Service was ok, servers are welcoming but a bit slow. The ambiance is no, has a romantic vibe.

The 6 course tasting with the drink pairing was an amazing deal! The service was good, and the owner gave us an extra drink at the end. If you don't drink the tasting menu even without the pairing was an even better deal! The courses were unique and we tried many new local dishes and wine, in which we probably would not have thought to order ourselves. If we could eat more we would have done the 9 course but 6 course was perfect for us this time.

For this year, I chose to celebrate my birthday weekend at Playa del Carmen in Mexico, and for my birthday dinner, I selected Axiote Cocina de Mexico located at Quinta Avenida (a 5km pedestrian-only avenue). The restaurant offers a spacious dining hall with a mezzanine, and the roof was made of palapa, making dining pleasant even with the absence of air conditioning. Our server was very helpful with the menu and the chefs' specials of the day. He recommended ceviche and a bottle of wine from Baja California. We were impressed with the ceviche and the tacos with filling that goes with it. It was an elevated ceviche indeed. We then ordered beef steak with lentils, pork sausage stew with chimichurri sauce, and terrine local pork with seasoned mole and charred plantain purée. The dishes are simply epicurean. We enjoyed our dinner here. The dishes are elevated, and the service was on point. It's a bit pricey here than most restaurants in Quinta Avenida, but it was all worth it. A must-visit while in Playa del Carmen.

This place is incredible. Came for a date night and then brought the whole family back two nights later. Did the 8 course tasting menu and they ended up giving us 12 different dishes. Incredible food!

I visit downtown area of Playa del Carmen. This restaurant presents fusion cuisine of Mexican food . In this town with full of restaurants, want to stand out, it must be competitive.

Cute little gem when you want to get away from the resorts. Food is all so interesting, and I love that it uses try local fresh ingredients. We ended up getting several dishes but what stick out were the duck tacos and the guacamole. There's an option to add grasshoppers if you are feeling adventurous. Service is wonderful and the staff are truly welcoming and friendly.

Came here to escape resort food and it was perfect. It's nice that the location is next to busy area but is off to the side a bit and doesn't have people outside hustling to get you to eat there. The inside of the restaurant is airy and nice, the server we had was so sweet and the food was so good. The grasshoppers in the guacamole was well-seasoned and perfect complement. I took my aunt and dad who are from Thailand and we love our grasshoppers too so they enjoyed a different version. All the other dishes were good too but the one my aunt and Dad devoured was the bone marrow, well-cooked (not hard or tough) and great adobo sauce, they were both licking the bone. If you're looking to escape the touristy stuff for a bit while still being near it, highly recommend checking this spot out.

This is my family. But the place was all families.

Updated Mercian food with delicacy and inventiveness. They had a sunflower paste dip that was better than their guacamole which also incredible. I think our server might have snuck out the back and picked some perfectly ripened avocados off a tree. It was chunky nature butter. I will add that Mexicans need a lot less corn chips then us greedy Americans. I asked for about 5 refills of chips. But my family eats a lot!! The atmosphere is chill and has a Mayan vibe. It's a few steps off the beaten path. Nobody is saying, "Hey pretty lady, you hungry?" So that lends a credibility in itself. Staff is eager to please and kind. A tiny bit slow, but again, we are spoiled hurried Americans. My only critique is that there fans need to be cleaned. They look like weeping willows, the dust vines are long!!!

Complimentary pickled vegetables with various salsas and fried tortillas

I have celiac (strictly gluten-free), and I'm vegetarian. I came here because of multiple reviews that were positive for those with celiac disease, and the restaurant overall had good reviews in general. Unfortunately, I had a pretty poor experience. As vegetarian/gluten-free, the waiter recommended a salad or a warm cauliflower dish in a mole sauce. There was some complimentary pickled vegetables with various sauces and fried tortillas/chips that came out, and the waiter assured me the chips were also gluten-free. I began to eat them, and then they came rushing back later to notify me the chips/fried tortillas were in fact NOT gluten-free. At that point, the dinner was mostly ruined. I ate my main course cauliflower dish which was pretty good, though left the restaurant quickly afterwards. Unfortunately, I did get sick soon afterwards from the food, so I can't give a positive review of the restaurant. The restaurant also just handled it by having the waiter apologize, and then still got charged full price for all the items, and also pressured into giving a tip despite all this. Anyway, definitely not going again.

The first time it was just for some drinks and then we ate here on New Years Eve. Our bartender was Frank and our server was Esencia Vital. Both were friendly and helpful. We ordered 4 things and all of them were pretty good. We got the Tempura Oysters which were excellent and not greasy at all. The Tiradito Boticario was my favorite. Great texture and flavor without being overwhelmed with sauce. The Camarones Boticario were also quite good. My wife had the Ceviche Boticario and said it was on point. I drank mostly beer which was Corona and I had a glass of white wine. The wine list was limited but they really specialize in their drinks which looked fantastic. We would recommend this place to anyone.

It was very refreshing, well balanced and came in a really cool glass! My second drink was the "Amarra Hombres Cascados". Gin, Aperol, grapefruit juice. It too hit the spot on a really hot day. Definitely a place we will hit when we need a good cocktail!

The location is undeniably…read morebeautiful, set right on the water, but unfortunately the decor and ambiance fall noticeably short in comparison. We had a group of 14, and despite the bar being mostly empty, the hostess would not allow us to split into two tables. Instead, she insisted we crowd around a single six top and move chairs ourselves, which left part of our group standing, leaning against walls, or waiting for space to sit. Service was slow from the start. It took about 20 minutes for the waitress to take our drink order and another 20 minutes before drinks began to arrive. Given the delay, lack of seating, and overall disorganization, we decided not to order any late night food. I ordered a margarita, and it was honestly one of the worst margaritas I've had. Very heavy on sweet and sour, clearly not made in house, with a weak pour. Prices felt steep for the quality being delivered. Oddly enough, the highlight of the visit was people watching. The vibe is... strange. While waiting in line for the bathroom, someone who frequents the bar mentioned it's known locally as a swingers spot. The crowd skewed heavily 60+, but hey, whatever works. If you're in the area, I'd strongly recommend heading next door to Lido for a far better experience in terms of atmosphere, service, and drinks.

Location 5/5, Service 5/5, Food 4/5, Drinks 5/5, Clientele…read more2/5 *more on that below* This spot has one of the best beachside settings in Playa del Carmen. The entire restaurant, including the bar, is literally set in the sand, with tables right on the water just a few feet from the ocean. It's barefoot, toes in the sand dining done right, and the atmosphere alone makes it worth the visit. We did have one hiccup in the evening due to a rowdy group from a drone company that was extremely intoxicated and invasive of our space. Their belongings kept ending up on our table, and there were drunk men taking their shirts off and doing shots just a few feet away. Not sure if they didn't have enough tables or what, but we had made a reservation to celebrate a special event months in advanced, so it was a bit irritating. The servers eventually handled it and intervened multiple times, but at no point were they asked to move or relocate. Once that group settled down, the night became a much more enjoyable experience. We were a party of 12, and every single person raved about both their food and drinks. For drinks we had: Prickly Pear: Made with Orange Blossom Condesa Gin, St Germain, fresh lemon juice, rosemary syrup, mint, and strawberry. Bright and refreshing, though it came with more foam on top than expected. Coco Loco: A fresh whole coconut with Patrón Silver tequila, vodka, rum, gin, pineapple juice, and coconut cream. A true showstopper. Don't be intimidated by the mix of liquor, it is smooth, refreshing, and dangerously easy to drink. No hangovers were had. Espresso Martini: Simple and clean with a light foam. Well executed, but not a signature cocktail compared to the others. For food we had: We were surprised with an amuse bouche of huitlacoche, often called Mexican truffle. It's a corn fungus with a rich, earthy flavor and this small bite was outstanding and set the tone for the meal. Queso Fundido: Oaxaca cheese with chorizo and flour tortillas. Great flavor, but very thick, making it a bit messy and difficult to serve. Guacamole: Prepared with tomato, onion, cilantro, and cotija cheese. Perfectly seasoned, fresh, and especially enjoyable paired with the queso fundido. Brisket: Served in chileatole sauce with huitlacoche truffle, carrots, and cotija cheese. Comforting, rich, and deeply flavorful. Robalo Guayaba: Guava sea bass served in guava sauce with chiltepín chili. Beautifully cooked with just a little too much sweetness and citrus. It would have benefited from a little bit of heat, or a vegetable or side to pair it with, as it is not served with anything other than a cooked slices of lemon. Creme Brulee Mexicano: A rice pudding infused crème brûlée with caramel and vanilla ice cream. A thoughtful twist on the classic, with the rice pudding adding depth and warmth to the dessert. Knocked down to 4 stars due to the rowdiness of some surrounding guests. We were seated on the sand and needed to walk through the entirety of the restaurant, but people without tables or reservations were standing in the middle of walkways and sitting on the steps down to the beach, many too intoxicated to stand up. I'm hopeful this is not the usual clientele, and I would return for the quality of the food, drinks, and the gorgeous setting.
